Afghan Governor: US (Obama)-Taliban Talks non-transparent and secretive, Lack Transparency.(Fars).Tehran - A senior Afghan provincial official criticized the mechanism adopted by the US for the so-called peace negotiations with the Taliban, and dismissed the talks as "secretive and non-transparent"."This trend which is pushed ahead in a non-transparent and secretive manner now is not defendable and will hit a heavy blow at Afghanistan's national unity and constitution," Governor-General of Afghanistan's Northern province of Balkh General Atta Mohammad Noor said on Sunday.
He said that people of Afghanistan will support the so-called peace talks only if the deal doesn't sacrifice the achievements of the last 10 years and the country's constitution for the sake of a political deal with the Taliban.
Meantime, he called on all Afghan political parties to hammer out and boost national unity in their war-torn country, and cautioned about the outbreak of another civil war in Afghanistan in the wake of a weak national unity. Most politicians and political analysts are skeptical of the prospects for meaningful peace negotiations with the Taliban.
Former Afghan Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah told FNA last month that said that the US is seeking to legitimize the Taliban through holding negotiations with the belligerent group, but meantime underlined that the US has failed to attain its goal.
"… No doubt the Taliban is eager to negotiate with the US since the group sees the talks a positive step towards its legitimacy," Abdullah Abdullah stated.
He said that some foreign countries have taken advantage and get involved in Afghan peace talks after the Afghan government failed to encourage the Taliban to hold talks with the central government within the geographical borders of Afghanistan.Hmmmm.........."Trust me".Read the full story here.
