Update: As The AstuteBlogger points out the number is probably the 'grand total' over the years.
Still a 'shocking' title might wake up a few people.
"According to extrapolated U.S. Census data and other independent surveys done by Iranian-Americans themselves in 2009, there are an estimated 1-1.5 million Iranian-Americans living in the U.S.,with the largest concentration—about 720,000 people—living around Los Angeles. For this reason, the L.A. area with its Iranian American residents is sometimes referred to as "Tehrangeles" or "Irangeles" among Iranian-Americans."Other large communities include New York/New Jersey (9.1%), Washington D.C./Maryland/Virginia (8.3%) and Texas (6.7%).
In 2010, the number of self-identified Iranian Americans in the US was 448,722. Iranian Americans are most likely far more numerous in the United States than census data indicate, according to research done by the Iranian Studies Group, an independent academic organization, at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The group estimates that the number of Iranian Americans may have topped 691,000 in 2004—more than twice the figure of 338,000 cited in the 2000 U.S. census
'2003' report - Strength in Numbers - The Relative Concentration of Iranian Americans Across the United States. The US Census estimates that the Iranian-American community numbers around 330,000, whereas the Iranian Interest Section in Washington, DC claims to hold passport information for approximately 900,000 Iranians in the US.
It would be nice to see the immigration numbers from the U.S. for 2011.
Important ! Since Obama became President his administration has NOT presented a single annual report to Congress on the refugee resettlement program as required by section 413(a) of the immigration and Nationality act !
So it's anyone's guess about the REAL NUMBERS.
not a credible number.
ReplyDeletemust be a grand total over the last decade(s).
