Video: Dem Congressional Candidate Joe Kennedy Says Tel Aviv is the Capital of Israel.
Dem Congressional Candidate Joe Kennedy Says Tel Aviv is the Capital of Israel.(Matzav).Kennedy introduced a video Tuesday night at the Democratic National Convention honoring his late uncle, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, whose speech as he battled brain cancer stirred delegates in 2008. In a recent television debate with his Democratic primary opponents, Kennedy III was asked about the capital of Israel. Shockingly - especially for a candidate who professes to support Israel - Kennedy replied that the capital was Tel Aviv, and even confirmed his answer when the host questioned him on it.
This wasn’t a trick question about some obscure foreign policy issue. Kennedy was asked a straightforward question about one of America’s most important allies, a country he himself has visited, and he couldn’t get it right. Curiously, Kennedy has a position paper up on his website regarding Israel in which he states that the capital of Israel is Jerusalem: Every country has the right to designate its own capital, and Israel is no exception. While the U.S. embassy is in Tel Aviv, longstanding U.S. policy is that the permanent status of Jerusalem should be resolved by negotiations. I recognize that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, and I hope that one day every country in the world agrees. So which is it, Joe? Is the capital of Israel Tel Aviv, or Jerusalem?Read and see the full story here.
