Israel's "Staunchest Ally" US to provide Jordan with advanced air defense system.(AM).The US has agreed to provide Jordan with advanced technology to protect the kingdom's airspace including detecting incoming air traffic, airspace management and defense missions and air sovereignty, according to statement by US manufacturer Lockheed Martin. "The U.S. Air Force has awarded Lockheed Martin a $26 million foreign military sales contract to modernize the Royal Jordanian Air Force's national air command, control and communications infrastructure," said a statement posted on the company website.
According to the agreement, Jordan will be provided with integrated, real-time air picture across multiple command centers and many remote sites to better protect the country's airspace. The system, known as Omnyx-tm, will combine sensor, voice and data communications to provide interoperability throughout the Royal Jordanian Air Force and other elements of Jordan's armed forces, said the statement. Government spokesman Sameeh Mayta declined to comment on the report. Jordan has lately upped its military ability in light of deterurating security situation in Syria amid concern of possible spillover to violence. "Omnyx serves as the backbone for information flow among command centers, enabling Jordanian military personnel to track and identify aircraft, evaluate any threats, and initiate or monitor airborne engagements," said John Nikolai, director of C4 Systems for Lockheed Martin's Mission Systems & Sensors business. "The system will provide enhanced situational awareness of Jordanian airspace at all times."
