A Jordanian husband allegedly divorced his wife while sitting in a restaurant in West Amman, Arab media reported on Sunday.

Apparently, the wife provoked her husband when she stopped him from eating the food so that she can photograph and send pictures to her friends on Snapechat.

Jordanian media said that the man went with his wife to dinner at a luxury restaurant on Saturday night.

The restaurant was very crowded, and they had to wait half an hour. By the time their number was up on the waiting list, the man was desperately hungry.

According to the media, whenever the husband reached for the food, his wife told him that she did not finish filming.

The situation heated up as he prevented her from taking the photos.

The matter escalated when he raised his voice and then followed it up with uttering the words of “talaq” (divorce), and left the restaurant without paying the bill. Hmmmm........Basic survival rule never....ever come between a starving man and his favorite food.

At least five people have been killed in drive-by shootings by unidentified fighters, apparently targeting police patrols, in the southern Jordanian city of Al-Karak, security officials said.

"Four of the dead are policemen and one is a female Canadian tourist," an unnamed security source told AFP news agency, adding that nine others were wounded in the attacks.

Several tourists were believed to be trapped inside the city's crusader castle where fighters have taken refuge and were surrounded by police, security sources told Reuters news agency.

The chain of events began when a police patrol received reports of a house fire in the town of Qatraneh in the Karak district, a statement by Jordan's Public Security Directorate said.


Officers responding to the call came under fire from inside the house, the statement said. Two policemen were wounded and the assailants fled in a car, it said.

In another attack, fighters fired on a security patrol in Al-Karak, causing no injuries, the statement said.

In a third incident, armed men opened fire on a police station in Al-Karak Castle, a Crusader fort popular with tourists, wounding members of the security forces.

At least seven people have been killed in shootings by unidentified fighters, apparently targeting police patrols and tourists, in the southern Jordanian city of Al-Karak, security officials said.

Jordan's general security department said four policemen, a female Canadian tourist and two Jordanian civilians were killed in the series of shootings. Several others were reported wounded.

The ministry said "five or six gunmen" were thought to be involved in the shootings.

However, Prime Minister Hani al-Malki, who was addressing parliament at the time of the attacks, said that "special forces and policemen are surrounding 10 gunmen holed up inside the Karak citadel".

Jordan said on Sunday it will set up security cameras around Jerusalem's flashpoint al-Aqsa mosque compound in the coming days to monitor any Israeli "violations."

In October, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry endorsed a plan to install cameras at the site in a bid to calm repeated disturbances, after talks with Jordan's King Abdullah II and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed.

But the Jordanian-run trust or "Waqf" that administers the site -- which houses the famed golden Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa mosque -- then complained that Israeli police had blocked them from installing the cameras.

A "control center" will be set up to monitor round-the-clock video surveillance of the compound, Jordan's Islamic Affairs Minister Hayel Daoud said.

The footage will be broadcast online to "document all Israeli violations and aggressions," he said in a statement, adding that no cameras would be installed inside mosques.

Clashes between Palestinian youths and Israeli security forces erupted at the compound in September amid fears among Muslims that Israel was planning to change rules governing the site in annexed east Jerusalem.

Islamic State [Daesh] militants are earning up to £14 million (approximately $20 million) a month by funneling cash looted from Iraqi banks into legitimate currency speculation.

The group seized hundreds of millions of dollars when it ransacked Mosul banks in June 2014, giving it the means to re-inject the cash back into unsuspecting foreign markets.

Yesterday a Foreign Affairs sub-committee heard that this money is routed into financial markets in Jordan, where it is used to play the stock market and then rewired back to ISIS operatives in Iraq.

The move into such a sophisticated method of money laundering provides another platform for the group's funding, along with its well-established oil production, extortion, and harsh local taxes.

The hearing heard ISIS was funding its stock market gambles with money taken from Iraqi civil servants' pension payments as well as looted cash, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Using the alternative acronym ISIL to refer to the group, MP John Baron, the sub-committee's chair, said: 'The cash that ISIL has looted, along with siphoned off pension payments, is routed into Jordanian banks and brought back into the system via Baghdad.

'That allows the system to be exploited by ISIL, in that they take a turn on the foreign currency actions and siphon that cash back.'

The siphoned cash is returned to ISIS operatives by the 'hawala' system of money transfer, an informal transfer system common in the Middle East, the paper reported.

It requires brokers, who know and trust one another, to act and the depositing and withdrawal points for individuals willing to transfer cash to one another.

As the money is not actually shifted between the brokers, they settle the debt incurred by the individuals' withdrawal with one another at a later point.

With an estimated £1.3billion ($1.84 billion) fortune, the group can afford not only to pay foreign fighters who join its cause in the Middle East, but easily expand beyond its borders to launch attacks in the West.

Though figures of its wealth vary widely, one report estimated it was selling £1million ($1.41 million) per day in crude oil and kidnappings were worth £30million ($42.2 million) per annum.

As well as these income streams, it was enforcing taxes of 20 per cent across a population of 10 million, and controlled 40 per cent of Iraq's wheat production. Read the full story here.

According to diplomats, the Jordanian foreign minister, who added the name of IRGC to the list due to pressures exerted by some countries such as Saudi Arabia, showed passive reaction to the Iranian foreign minister’s protest.

"We have asked all parties involved in the Syrian issue to announce the names of the groups they believe are involved in terrorist measures in Syria, and the name of IRGC was presented not by Jordan but by another country."

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau welcomed the first big wave of Syrian refugees last Friday, part of the more than 10,000 expected to resettle in Canada by the end of the year.

But with the plan come questions about whether their vetting process is up to the task and whether lax standards north of the border could undermine America's security.

“There is a concern with this large volume in such a short period of time that adequate vetting may not be occurring,” Sen. Ron Johnson, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, told FoxNews.com.

“It is an obvious concern that without robust vetting by Canada, these individuals could represent a threat to America given our porous border.”

“The majority of these refugees, all receiving permanent residence, will settle in Toronto and Montreal – cities in close proximity to the U.S. border,” Marguerite Telford from the Center for Immigration Studies, recently wrote. “How many of these refugees will enter the United States to join the 11 million-plus illegal aliens already here? How many will join terrorist sleeper cells, which we are told exist in all 50 states?”

“Small tweaks do not alleviate the safety hazards associated with the refugee resettlement program,” Telford said, adding that Canada does not have access to databases in the U.S. that detect criminal background or terrorist links.

The Russian diplomats met with a number of Syrian opposition members during the Syria crisis settlement talks in Vienna, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said on Sunday.

"We did have contacts [with the Syrian opposition] in Vienna as well. These were several rebel groups in Vienna," Bogdanov told reporters.

On Saturday, a fresh round of international talks on Syrian reconciliation, which involve Russia, the United States, Iran and the UN Special Envoy for Syria, among others, was held in the Austrian capital.

A Jordan-led discussion on who should be put on the unified list of terrorist organizations will take place within coming weeks, according to Bogdanov.

"We agreed that Jordanians will organize an extensive exchange within next two-three weeks to debate who is a terrorist and who is not," Bogdanov said.

Jordan is due to contact anti-terror experts from countries involved in the effort, including Russians.

Asked if the final blacklist would be put to vote in the UN Security Council, the diplomat replied that "That’s what we are offering." "Six or seven," the diplomat told reporters when asked how many terrorist organizations Russia suggests to include in the list.

"There are many organizations that pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda or the Islamic State, which shelled our embassy, the center of Latakia," Bogdanov said adding that Jaysh al-Islam was among the suggested groups.

Russia, Turkey and the United States disagree on whether Kurdish militant groups should be put on the unified blacklist of terror organizations, to be compiled using a UN draft roster, according to Bogdanov.

Turkey insists that Kurdish militant groups should be outlawed, while the United States and Russia regard them as a major player in the fight against Islamists in Syria.

"They [Ankara] consider the Democratic Union Party to be a terrorist group. We think they are a lawful organization," Mikhail Bogdanov said.

"There are differences not only between us and Turks, but also between Turks and Americans. They have disagreements even within NATO," he added.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister stressed that Russia is ready to set up an anti-terrorist coordination center with Egypt similar to Baghdad and Amman centers, but no agreement has been reached on the matter yet. "We have offered it to Egypt, we are ready," the Russian diplomat said. Hmmm.....I for one like Lavrov's definition of a terrorist.

The story of ISIS holding 150 Christian hostages according to my sources is true.

However the story being reported now seems to have left out a few relevant details. The official story is that ISIS stormed villages in the Hasaka region and kidnapped Christians in the villages.

Osama Edward, founder of the Assyrian Human Rights Network who is based in Stockholm, Sweden said, “They are facing death, people are unarmed, they are peaceful. And they need help, they are just left alone — no one’s protecting them.”

However rebel sources in the area have said that many of the prisoners are from the Sootoro Christian militia, a group that is headed by Maliki Rabbaho. This group was being trained by Peshmerga forces to fight ISIS. Sources say that when ISIS attacked the villages these prisoners fell into their hands.

Islamist group sets up 'West Bank and Jerusalem Headquarters' in Istanbul, taking advantage of deteriorating ties between Ankara and Jerusalem, using it as base for recruitment.

Turkey has become a Hamas hotbed, and members of the organization's military wing are undergoing military training on Turkish soil, with the knowledge, support and assistance of the local authorities.

The US administration has appealed in recent months to the Turkish government to prevent Hamas military activity in its territory, arguing that Turkey is a member of NATO and that Hamas is viewed by most NATO members as a terrorist organization. The appeals have gone unanswered.

For his part, Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon has raised the issue in his talks with the defense ministers of various NATO countries on several occasions, including last week in India, where he attended a military exhibition. Ya'alon defined Turkey's role in helping Hamas' build its terrorist networks in the West Bank and the Gaza as "a cynical game on the part of a NATO member state."

The headquarters in Turkey is engaged in part in locating West Bank and Gaza Strip residents who are studying in Turkey, Jordan, Syria and other Arab countries, with efforts also being made to recruit students from among the Israeli Arab population.

The students undergo initial screening in Jordan and Turkey; and since Jordan does not allow Hamas activists to undergo military training on its soil, the recruits are sent to the headquarters in Istanbul, where they receive security clearances and are sent for military training just outside the city – under the watchful eye of Turkish intelligence officials.

The recruits, hundreds every year, are trained in the use of light weapons, bomb-making and covert operations, and are then sent for additional training in Syria. The Middle East publication, al Monitor, is reporting that “Jordan is unlikely to join a land offensive against Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq.”

While the Kingdom has intensified airstrikes against the militant group; and, no doubt their special operations/commando-style missions as well; a large-scale Jordanian ground offensive appears very unlikely — at least at this point. Al Monitor reports that “a number of deputies, retired military officers, and political figures have expressed fear that Jordan was being dragged into an open-ended war outside its borders.”

Jordan’s Senate Speaker, Abdel Raouf al-Rawabdeh dismissed reports about Jordan’s future role and said on February 13, that the Kingdom “will not engage in a land war against the Islamic State; but, will continue to confront the militants. If a land operation [Coalition] is launched, then Jordan can provide logistical support.”

According to analysts interviewed by al Monitor, “a recent mobilization of Jordanian troops near the border with Iraq reportedly had nothing to do with Jordanian preparations for a potential ground invasion of Syria but, “is directly related to Jordanian concerns with respect to a possible attempt to by Syria to retake the southern Syrian city of Daraa, along the border with Jordan.”

Retired General Musa Udwan, told al Monitor, that “airstrikes alone will not defeat the extremists; and, a wider coalition should be formed to provide support for the Syrian and iraqi armies — which must lead the land offensive against the Islamic State militants. But, for this to happen, a massive land offensive must be undertaken to deal a final blow to the militants,” warned.

“For now,” al Monitor wrote, “the most direct threat to Jordan comes from so-called sleeper cells; and Islamic State sympathizers at home. Between 1,500, to 2,000 Jordanians are fighting in Syria and Iraq with the Islamic State and the the Jabhat al-Nusra. On February 16, 2015, a Jordanian Ministry spokesperson was quoted as saying that there were between 6,000 and 7,000 Salafists in Jordan, with at least an additional 2,000 sympathizers.


Furthermore, al Monitor noted, a poll conducted last year by the Center for Strategic Studies at the University of Jordan showed that 10 percent of Jordanians see the Islamic State as a legitimate resistance organization. Fighting religious extremism at home…has become a national priority, as the threat from the Islamic State increases,” al Monitor wrote.

Political analyst Hazem Mubeidin told al Monitor that “Jordan has no choice but to join a wider coalition in a land offensive against the Islamic State; and, that may require Amman to coordinate with the Assad [Syria] regime.” “A similar call was echoed February 19, 2015, by Jordanian political columnist Urayb al-Rintawi, who wrote that “Jordan should consider working with the Damascus [Bashar Assad] regime to combat militants close to Jordan’s borders.”

“The debate continues,” al Monitor concluded; but, “one thing is clear: Joining a land offensive, as remote a possibility as that sounds now….will polarize the Kingdom; and, present new challenges for the regime.” Hmm......Jordan has only a small army and best equipped are the special forces, the king won't risk his 'Praetorian guard' in an ISIS Adventure away from the capital, he needs his troops to protect him from the Muslim Brotherhood.
