High Commission of Canada to Pakistan shuts down a Canadian-Pakistani anti-Ahmadiyya troll

High Commission of Canada to Pakistan shuts down a Canadian-Pakistani anti-Ahmadiyya troll . (ET).

The High Commission of Canada to Pakistan fired back after receiving a message calling Ahmadis “non-Muslims” on social media.

On 23rd August 2016 the twitter account of the Canadian High Commission shared a picture and wrote: “Acting High Commissioner Stuart Savage delighted to visit Faisal Mosque in Islamabad.”

The picture of the acting High Commissioner was followed by another tweet in which the HC compared the area of Faisal Mosque, Islamabad to that of the Bait-un-Nur Mosque, Calgary. The Bait-un-Nur Mosque covers an area of 4,500 square meters, while Pakistan’s Faisal Mosque cover a whopping 5,000 square meters.

A Canadian-Pakistani responded to the tweet by saying “Qadianis are declared non-Muslims by courts and Muslims. U must respect court judgment?”

The Canadian High Commission answered back saying:

Canada remains concerned by the persecution of the Ahmadiyya community in Pakistan.

The Bait-un-Noor Mosque opened in 2008 and was built by the Ahmadiyya sect of Islam. The sect is practically banned in Pakistan and its followers face severe persecution. Many Ahmadis have sought refugee protection in Canada due to the increasing violence in Pakistan.

Video - Palestinian Sheikh - Islamic Strategy Dictates Hostility towards Infidels, Tolerance Is Un-Islamic.

Palestinian Cleric Issam Amira at Al-Aqsa Mosque In a Ramadhan address delivered at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Palestinian cleric Sheikh Issam Amira said that "friendship and tolerance toward infidels are unacceptable" and complained that "the word 'hostility' is all but absent from the Muslims' political vocabulary today." Insisting upon use of the word "infidel" and saying that "the strategy in Islam is hostility toward non-Muslims," Sheikh Amira asked: "What kind of tolerance is possible with these people?" The address was delivered on *June 18* and was posted two days later on a YouTube page dedicated to Al-Aqsa Mosque lectures.

What led IS to select a new Boko Haram leader?

What led IS to select a new Boko Haram leader? (africanarguments). By Omar S. Mahmood.

Before this week’s announcement of a leadership change, IS had already begun to increase its focus on Boko Haram. And the specifics of its shift in communication could reveal some of the motivations behind the decision to replace Abubakar Shekau, who has led the group since 2009.

On the one hand, there are some indications that some in Boko Haram objected to the relationship with IS from the start, and since the pledge, Shekau has overseen many attacks that IS has chosen not to promote – even during its recent increase of statements.

These assaults have included those committed by female suicide bombers – a trend that has generally declined but continued – along with violence against civilians and mosques. Furthermore, a US army official recently said that Shekau faced internal dissent over his refusal to adhere to an IS directive to halt the use of child suicide bombers.

By contrast, Abu Musab al-Barnawi, the man announced as the new leader, clearly stated in his al-Naba interview that attacks against Muslim civilians, mosques, and markets will not be a staple of his leadership – he said he would focus more on Christian targets – though he remained silent on the issue of female suicide bombers.

The announcement therefore was likely to have been partly motivated by a desire to replace Shekau – who has quickly responded to the interview, insisting that he is still in charge – with a figure whose attack methodology may better facilitate IS propaganda.

On the other hand, however, there may also be wider strategies at play too. In addition to concerns about Boko Haram’s attack patterns under Shekau, another reason behind IS’ increased messaging and leadership change may be to challenge the broader narrative regarding the status of the Islamic State’s West Africa Province.

Since its admission into IS in March 2015, Boko Haram has lost the vast majority of its territory in the face of a renewed push by Nigerian security forces following the election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The effects of this have been seen on many fronts. The group’s attack radius has shrunk amid an overall decline in large-scale violence. There have been rumblings of food shortages. Low morale has reportedly led to surrenders. And some displaced people have been repatriated to areas formerly under militant control.

In this sense, reinvigorated IS involvement in Boko Haram over the past two months may be aimed at presenting a contrasting story to this tale of decline, one in which the group is still capable of confronting and defeating conventional security forces.

This narrative has been enhanced by the visual depictions of the “spoils of war” – such as weapons, ammunition, and vehicles – as well as of fallen soldiers in IS publications.

And in his interview, al-Barnawi acknowledged that while the group has lost territory, this should not be considered a defeat and that it will return to a stronger position. Read the full story here.

Following ISIS Attacks, Arab Journalists Call To Acknowledge Existence Of Muslim Extremism.

Following ISIS Attacks, Arab Journalists Call To Acknowledge Existence Of Muslim Extremism.  (Memri).

The large number of terrorist attacks carried out by ISIS in Western countries over the past year – including the July 14 truck attack in Nice, France (84 dead, some 100 wounded), the June 12 shooting at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida (49 dead, over 50 wounded), the March 22, 2016 combined attacks in Brussels, Belgium (32 dead, over 300 wounded), and the combined attacks in Paris, France in November 2015 (129 dead, 350 wounded) – has sparked a wave of harsh criticism in the Arab and Islamic world, both due to the fear of Western responses and the increase of Islamophobia, and due to the torrent of youths who flock to the extremist organization.

Alongside the many articles that stressed that terrorist attackers do not represent Islam and operate out of outside interests, there have been an increasing number of articles in the Arab media calling to acknowledge that Islam, and the obsolete interpretations of it that are still applied today, are indeed related to the wave of global terrorism.

Writers called on Muslims to be honest and admit the existence of Muslim religious extremism instead of blaming others, and to uproot it.
The writers argued that the source of ISIS's extremist ideology is the Muslim social and cultural structure and that Muslims must therefore declare a war on this "cultural affliction" in their midst. According to them, this war requires fundamental reforms in Islamic interpretations alongside reforms in cultural, governmental and education patterns in Arab countries, which, they say, cause many Muslims to harbor covert sympathy for ISIS.
Many writers argued that most of ISIS's religious practices are drawn from the most important Islamic law books, while stressing that these laws do not reflect explicit Koranic dictates, but rather the opinion of jurisprudents that lived in a certain reality that is no longer relevant today.

Therefore, they explained that in order to rescue the universal values of Islam from the culture of ignorance, backwardness, and violence, the Islamic jurisprudents of today must critically and rationally review the history of Islam and its religious texts, and adapt Islamic interpretations and laws to the spirit of the times, while taking into account the current circumstances and the greater good. In their opinion, some Islamic dictates should even be cancelled altogether to conform with universal progressive values such as liberties and human rights.

The writers harshly criticized the passive response of Muslims to ISIS crimes.

According to them, clerics make do with condemning the crimes of terrorist organizations, and some even take part in spreading extremist ideologies themselves. They argued that "ideology can only be combatted with ideology" and that no one other than clerics can "defeat and eliminate terrorism based on uncompromising ideology."

Therefore, the clerics must combat extremist religious discourse that captures the hearts of many youths, and systematically refute its ideas and rulings as part of ideological, practical, and informational programs. In this context, some of the writers mentioned the silence of the Muslim Brotherhood, which they said begat these extremist takfiri organizations and now refrains from coming out against them and their ideology.

The writers also pointed to the confusion afflicting the common Muslims today, whether due to the refusal of Islamic religious institution to accuse ISIS and its ilk of apostasy, or whether because matters that were once uncontroversial in Islam – such as offensive jihad and slavery for prisoners of war – are currently forbidden according to modern world norms.

The writers stated that changing the religious discourse was a vital and urgent step, since the ongoing political and cultural situation in the Arab and Muslim world is "a wonderful recipe for extremism and backwardness," and that preserving and sanctifying ancient Islamic heritage would birth groups even more extreme than ISIS and lead Muslims to their doom.

The following are excerpts from these articles:

  • Palestinian Writer: We Must Admit That Terrorism Is Tied To Islam And That Muslim Education Inculcates Implicit Support For ISIS

  • Moroccan Writer: Arab World Must Change The Religious Discourse, Deal With Islamic Extremism

  • Palestinian Writer: Every Muslim Anywhere May Have Some Measure Of Sympathy For ISIS; We Must Make Islam Compatible With Universal Values

  • Egyptian Writer: Culture Of Arab Societies Produces Violent Islam Whose Followers Murder Anyone Who Disagrees With Them

  • Jordanian Writer: We Must Urgently Reexamine Islamic Religious Texts; Clerics Not Fulfilling This Duty

  • Senior Saudi Journalist: Muslim Clerics Should Completely Disprove Takfiri Jihadi Ideological Arguments

  • Saudi Journalist In Series Of Articles: Actions Of Al-Qaeda, ISIS Originate In Past Islamic Religious Texts And Interpretations; We Must Issue Fatwas In Line With The Times

Video - Canada- Edmonton Friday Sermon: America Is Collapsing Because of Police Racism; the EU and Israel Will Come to an End

Video - Canada- Alberta Friday Sermon: America Is Collapsing Because of Police Racism; the EU and Israel Will Come to an End. (Memri).

In a Friday sermon delivered in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on July 8, 2016, Sheikh Shaban Sherif Mady said that "the U.S. is collapsing now from the inside because of the racism of those policemen," and that "an American state is demanding to secede, after England seceded from the EU." "The US will break up, just like 'Aad, Thamud, and Russia, the former USSR, and just like the EU, which will break up soon," said Mady, adding that "as a result, Israel will come to an end as well."

Sheikh Shaban Sherif Mady: "The U.S. is collapsing now because of these actions, just like the countries where it employed terrorism in the name of democracy. 'Allah came upon them from where they did not expect.' The US is collapsing from within because of the racism of those policemen, who are practicing international terrorism, or terrorism on the basis of racial discrimination."

"An American state is demanding to secede, after England seceded from the E.U. Now you have the incidents with the blacks. The U.S. will disintegrate, just like 'Aad, Thamud, and Russia, the former U.S.S.R., and just like the E.U., which will disintegrate soon. The U.S. will come to an end, and with it, Israel will come to an end as well. As a result of the end of Israel – or even before that happens – many Arab and Islamic regimes, which have ruled for a long time, will come to an end."

'The War on Christianity' - Report on Freedom of Religion Shows Horrific Persecution of Christians Worldwide.

'The War on Christianity' - Report on Freedom of Religion Shows Horrific Persecution of Christians Worldwide. (ChristianToday).

A horrific catalogue of human rights abuses of Christians and other believers is listed in the latest freedom of religion or belief report from the European Union.

The report calls on the EU to "use political and financial power to end persecution of religious minorities worldwide."

It finds "significant restrictions" exist on religion worldwide, including the near extinction of Christians in Syria and Iraq.

The two MEPs who chair the group, Peter van Dalen and Dennis de Jong, particularly highlighted the suffering of Christians and other minorities at the hands of Islamic State.

The report finds global restrictions in 53 countries to freedom of religion or belief.

Van Dalen said: "Our beliefs are at the core of our human dignity -- tragically, however, today not everyone enjoys the freedom to hold and manifest their beliefs. We have witnessed the near extinction of Christians in Iraq and Syria; a 150 per cent rise in violent faith-related incidents in India since 2014; and in Pakistan the injustice of Asia Bibi's death sentence for blasphemy continues.

In this report we outline practical recommendations for how the EU can act to help find solutions to cases like these. Freedoms of religion or belief must be higher on the EU's agenda."

De Jong said: "Regrettably, we observe that the EU, in its external actions, continuously compromises its human rights agenda in favour of a more economic and geopolitical agenda. We have witnessed a concerning lack of expertise and knowledge on the EU Guidelines -- especially in EU delegations. I am particularly disappointed that no reporting was undertaken for the focal countries that appeared in our report last year, and urge the EEAS to rectify this for focal countries this year."

Countries of particular concern included the Central African Republic, with a population of 5.3 million of which 80 per cent are Christian, and where 36,000 Muslim civilians remain trapped in areas besieged by anti-Balaka Militia.

The predominantly Muslim Ex-Seleka forces are also continually attacking the Christian civilian population, and between January and April 2015 killed 1,269 Christians.

Nigeria, with a population of 180 million, with 90 per cent Muslims Christian, has Sharia courts in 12 northern states and there have been cases where non-Muslims have been forcefully brought before sharia courts and suffered punishments such as caning, amputation and death by stoning for blasphemy and other offences.

In addition, the Fulani Militia, categorised the fourth most deadly terror group in the world, have killed more than al-Shabaab and Boko Haram. More than 4,000 Christians were killed in Nigeria because of faith-related reasons in 2016 and 198 churches were attacked, damaged or destroyed between November 2014 and October 2015.

In Somalia, with a population of more than 10.4 million, nearly all Muslim, the violent Islamist group and Al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Shabaab imposes its dogma "by harassing, maiming, or killing people who are suspected of converting from Islam or who are failing to uphold the principles of Islam," the report says. Since 1993, there has been policy of religious cleansing and the group has declared it "wants Somalia free of any Christians."

In Iraq, where most of the 32.6 million population is Muslim, Christians are forced to convert to Islam, pay the Jizya tax or otherwise face execution. The 2,000-year-old Christian community in Iraq is facing extinction, the report says, and estimates suggest that Christians in Iraq have fallen from 1.2 million in the 1990s to 500,000 in 2013, to 260,000 in 2015.

In Saudi Arabia, where the 27.3 million population is almost entirely Muslim, the report says government restrictions constitute "the most severe violations of the freedom of religion or belief in the world." Apostasy, blasphemy, "sorcery" and peaceful dissent are punishable by death.

In Iran, where Muslims make up 99 per cent of the population, the Baha'i Faith is considered a "political sect" and Baha'is are deemed apostates by the government and denied civil rights. Members of the Baha'i community are banned from higher education, denied the right to establish and maintain religious institutions and excluded from the social pension system.

The Christian community also faces "systematic persecution and prosecution" by the Iranian regime and as of February 2015, about 90 Christians languish in prison, are detained, or await trial because of their religious beliefs and activities. There has also been a "significant increase" in the number of physical assaults and beatings of Christians in prison.

In Sudan, where 96 per cent of the 35.5 million population is Muslim, blasphemy carries a six-month prison sentence, flogging or a fine. Proselytism is not illegal but conversion from Islam to another religion is punishable by death. Since 2011, more than 170 people have been arrested for attempting to convert Muslims. In June 2015, Sudanese authorities arrested Fardos Al Toum and nine other women at a church because they wore jeans and long shirts, deemed as an indecent, the report says. Al-Toum was sentenced to 20 lashes and a fine.

In Syria, mostly Muslim, there has been "brutal ethnic and religious cleansing" by Islamic State of Christians, Yazidis and other minorities.

Massacres carried out by the Islamic state against religious minorities -- sometimes involving entire towns -- have been called "genocide" by several international bodies, including the European Parliament. One of the worst atrocities in 2015 was in Palmyra, where around 400 people were slaughtered, many of them women and children. In Aleppo just 60,000 Christian individuals remain, down from 400,000. Hmmm.......Notice that it's mostly Muslim countries that persecute Christians.....

Video - Yemeni Cleric Al-Zindani: New Ice Age Started in Europe, U.S., So They Want to Occupy the Arab World

Yemeni cleric Sheikh Abd Al-Majid Al-Zindani said the migration of birds from Europe to the Arab world, from the U.S. to South America, and from Russia to its south was an indication that these countries would become uninhabitable in 15-20 years. Interviewed on the Yemeni Suhail TV channel, Al-Zindani said that in 2013, there had been a consensus among scientists "that the next Ice Age would begin [in those countries] in 2014." "We are ready to come to an understanding about these problems... but this must not be through military occupation," he said. The interview aired on June 6, 2016

Is Imran Khan endorsing and financing an institution that officially supports the Afghan Taliban?

Is Imran Khan endorsing and financing an institution that officially supports the Afghan Taliban? (ET).

For those as yet unaware of the legend, Darul Uloom Haqqania is a large religious seminary located in Akora Khattak in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). It was founded in 1947 by Maulana Abdul Haq, a prominent scholar of Hadith who had trained at the Darul Uloom Deoband, the centre of Deobandi Islam in undivided India. It remained, till the start of the Afghan-Soviet war, a somewhat respectable institution that stayed away from politics and controversy.

The students and administration of the seminary even played an important role in ensuring security and safety for the engineers and labour crews of the massive Karakoram Highway project. Following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 Maulana Abdul Haq declared fighting the Soviets a compulsory duty for all Muslims.

At this point a heavy emphasis on holy war was incorporated into the teachings of the institution which continues to this day. Darul Uloom Haqqania is currently presided over by Maulana Abdul Haq’s son, Maulana Samiul Haq who is a diehard supporter of the Afghan Taliban. The seminary has some rather illustrious alumni. Among these are:

- Mullah Akhtar Mansoor: Erstwhile leader of the Afghan Taliban who was killed by an American missile strike last month.
- Asim Umar: Shadowy leader of al Qaeda in Pakistan and Afghanistan appointed by no less than al Qaeda leader Ayman al Zawahiri himself.
- Jalaluddin Haqqani: Feared leader of the Haqqani group and one of the most wanted men in the world. - Mullah Omar: Founding father of the Taliban who died in 2014. He attended the Madrasah only briefly but was awarded an ‘honorary degree’ much later due to the seminary’s full confidence in his moral uprightness and scholarly abilities.

Not once has the madrassah distanced itself from any of these individuals and continues, from most reports, to contribute large number of ‘graduates’ to the cadres of the Afghan Taliban and other extremist groups.

As recently as 2013 Maulana Samiul Haq stated in an interview with Reuters that Mullah Omar is “an angel-like human being” and that the Taliban should be allowed to fight for the “freedom of Afghanistan”.

Now coming to the point of my preamble about the Darul Uloom Haqqania – and this is where things get very interesting. Last Thursday, Provincial Minister Shah Farman informedthe K-P Assembly that Darul Uloom Haqqania has been allocated Rs300 million from the state budget.

The monies will be disbursed over two budgetary years to the seminary. He observed that past governments had never delivered on the promise to provide religious seminaries with funding from the provincial budget which this government was finally delivering on.

What, for the love of God, is going on? What achievements, what contribution to the country is Darul Uloom Haqqania being rewarded for? Is the K-P government actively endorsing and financing an institution that, as yet, officially supports the Afghan Taliban and has had many well know terrorist leaders in its ranks?

This is a very unfortunate, and in all honesty, perilous state of affairs. Terrorism has weakened our nation from within like nothing else in our history. Extremism continues to be on the rise as evidenced by the unrelenting spate of sectarian violence and the targeting of minorities which continues with unperturbed, savage impunity.

Yet here we are, giving Rs300 million to a madrassah with well-known ties to terrorist organisations and widely known to contribute to the rank and file of the Afghan Taliban.

Here’s the thing; we will not be able to make an iota of difference to the scourge of terrorism and other manifestations of extremism till religious seminaries remain beyond the precinct of proper civilian law. This lack of oversight is unacceptable to begin with but takes on a more treacherous dimension when one takes into account the harm done to Pakistan by the extremism that these institutions have helped breed.

Imran Khan defended the grant to Darul Uloom Haqqania in an interview on Wednesday stating that this was going to bring seminaries into the “mainstream” and “keep them away from radicalisation”.

I am sorry Khan Sahib, without a clear cut agenda or legislation that delineates how Madaris are going to be regulated and prevented from being incubators of radicalisation that is not going to cut it.

By all accounts, attending Darul Uloom Haqqania has led to youth being radicalised and you want us to believe it will keep them away? What manner of denial is this? How distant are you from the reality of Pakistan and this world-renowned seminary of Akora Khattak?

I appeal to K-P Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Chairman PTI Imran Khan to immediately revoke the allocation of money to Darul Uloom Haqqania. I would further request them to set an example for the rest of the country by bringing every madrassah in K-P under the jurisdiction of the Board of Education.

Affronts like these to the intelligence and misery of the people of Pakistan must cease. Religious schools must be regulated and any material preaching hatred against other sects and religions as well as glorifying bloodshed must be banned.

The 2-3 million students attending seminaries must be taught curricula meeting at the very least the national standard for Matriculate and Intermediate graduates. The purpose of education is to produce a capable workforce and the leaders, scientists and visionaries of tomorrow. Pakistan’s Madaris have instead become an assembly line for inadequately educated and unskilled individuals unable to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s future and predisposed to bigotry and violence. Our children deserve better.

On Telegram, Pro-ISIS Hacking Groups Post 8,000 names ‘Kill List’ Featuring U.S., Australian, Canadian Citizens.

On Telegram, Pro-ISIS Hacking Groups Post ‘Kill List’ Featuring U.S., Australian, Canadian Citizens. (Memri).

On June 7, 2016, the pro-ISIS hacking groups Caliphate Cyber Army and its affiliates United Cyber Caliphate and Ghosts Caliphate posted a list of hundreds of names of citizens of the U.S., Australia, and Canada. Accompanying the list was a graphic image that read “Caliphate ‘Ghosts’ Caliphate Cyber Army/ All World Cant Stop Islamic State/ You are gathered against us./ ‘We will kill you all (together).'” The comment on the post read, “Fight the Cross. ‘Following them. Kill them. Strongly’ Revenge for Muslims.'”

Most of the names and the accompanying addresses listed appear to belong to people in the United States, Australia, and Canada. Out of 7,848 people identified as being in the U.S. alone, 1,445 were listed as having addresses in California, 643 in Florida, 341 in Washington, 333 in Texas, 331 in Illinois, and 290 in New York. Another 312 names and addresses allegedly belong to people in Canada, while 69 allegedly belong to people in Australia.

Another 39 are affiliated with the U.K. and the rest are listed with addresses in Belgium, Brazil, China, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, New Zealand, South Korea, Sweden and Trinidad and Tobago.

It is unclear, however, if the list, posted on Telegram on Monday, includes any new information or details that weren’t already accessible online. It’s also unclear why the specific names and addresses outlined were selected, and whether or not they’re in some way related. The group that posted the directory is also dubious. A recent study by Flashpoint, an intelligence firm, showed that the United Cyber Caliphate—a merger of pro-ISIS groups—is incompetent when it comes to hacking. Their highest-profile “hack” involved taking credit for others’ work, according to the study. Read the full story here, more here and here.

Video - Terror Show at a Gaza Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony; 'Islamic Jihad Leader to Israelis: We Are Not Terrorists, Don’t Force Us to Kill You'

Video - Terror Show at a Gaza Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony; 'Islamic Jihad Leader to Israelis: We Are Not Terrorists, Don’t Force Us to Kill You' (Memri).

A graduation ceremony at a Gaza kindergarten featured a theatrical show of terrorist skills presented by the graduating children of the 2016 Al-Quds class of the Islamic Al-Hoda kindergarten. The children, clad in Islamic Jihad fatigues, demonstrated the planting of anti-tank mines, the killing and kidnapping of enemy soldiers, the launching of mortars, and more. Videos documenting the event were posted on the kindergarten’s YouTube account and Facebook page on May 30. Sheikh Khadr Habib, an Islamic Jihad leader in Gaza, delivered a speech during the ceremony, and said that the children send a “message of love” to the world and that their message to the Israelis is: We are not terrorists, don’t force us to kill you. The Al-Hoda kindergarten is located in the Zaytun Quarter in Gaza, and is run by Maha Ashour.

Following are excerpts

Scenes filmed on a helmet held camera are incorporated in the clip of the on-stage performance.

The children enter what seems to be an “Israeli army base” and stage an attack against it. They emerge from the base with an “Israeli soldier” as prisoner.

Gazan teen-aged boy: Stab! Kill the occupier with stones and knives. Use any available weapon. From the edge of fire, when the blood calls to arms, the morning rises.

[…]

Allow me to welcome the great [Islamic Jihad] leader, Khodhr Habib.

[…]

Khodhr Habib.: The message of the children of Palestine today is a message of love to the whole world. Indeed, the spokesman for these children is saying today: "The love that we bear in our hearts is enough to be distributed among all the people of Earth. However, it is this Zionist enemy that kills the children, the women, and the elderly, and is occupying the land. It is this enemy that forces us to bear arms, and protect our mothers and fathers, our elderly, and the honor of our womenfolk."

[…]

The message that these children send the Zionist enemy today is: "We do not want to kill anyone. We are not terrorists or murderers. We do not want to kill you. Get out of our land. Palestine has its owners. Do not force us to kill you. Indeed, if you continue with your aggression, with the plundering of our land, and with the defiling of our Jerusalem, we shall bear arms. We shall be the soldiers of the future, God willing.

"More than 1.3 million Christians forced to flee from northern Nigeria", says a Bishop.

"More than 1.3 million Christians forced to flee from northern Nigeria", says a Bishop. (Fides).
In northern Nigeria, between 2006 and 2014 an estimated 11,500 Christians were killed, over 1.3 million Christians displaced and 13,000 churches destroyed or abandoned.
This assertion was made by His Exc. Mgr. Joseph Bagobiri, Bishop of Kafanchan, in his presentation entitled "The Impact of Persistent Violence on the Church in Northern Nigeria", made at an International Conference held at the headquarters of the United Nations Organization (UNO), New York, United States of America (USA).

The most affected Christian communities are in northern Adamawa, Borno, Kano and Yobe states. Christians in these states have had to relocate mainly to the predominant Christian states in the Middle Belt areas: Plateau, Nassarawa, Benue, Taraba and Southern part of Kaduna state.

But in recent months, these areas are affected by the violence of the Fulani herdsmen (see Fides 02/05/2016). "Christian communities in the predominant Christian states in the Middle Belt areas are the most affected by the Muslim Fulani herdsmen forceful invasions and attacks. This is a blatant foreign invasion of the ancestral lands of the Christian and minority communities", said Mgr. Bagobiri in his presentation sent to Fides.

"In these middle belt states, the Fulani herdsmen have incessantly terrorized many communities, wiping out some from existence, and in places like Agatu in Benue State and Gwantu and Manchok in Kaduna State, these attacks assumed genocidal character, as between 150 – 300 vulnerable persons were killed overnight", he stressed.

Mgr. Bagobiri called on the international community to put pressure on the Nigerian authorities to ensure freedom of worship for Christians and other minorities in northern Nigeria, and tackle the humanitarian emergency of displaced populations.
