4:00 PM: Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fire an anti-tank missile at an IDF jeep conducting a routine patrol of the Gaza border fence, inside Israeli territory. Four IDF soldiers were wounded in the attack, two of them seriously. Shortly after the attack on the IDF jeep, the IDF responded with ground fire against Palestinian terrorist sites in the Gaza Strip.
In the past two weeks, there have been four separate attacks from Gaza.
Nov. 9: During routine IDF activity along the Gaza border fence, a tunnel filled with explosives was detonated, damaging a nearby IDF vehicle. The tunnel, which was uncovered only because an IDF vehicle drove over it, was 4 meters deep and larger than anything the IDF has seen recently in the area.
Nov. 8: Palestinian terrorists in Gaza opened fire at an IDF patrol along the Gaza Strip.
In addition, in the span of a few days last month, more than 70 rockets were fired into Israel from Gaza.
Top Israeli officials commented on the escalation Sunday morning, promising increased IDF activity to protect Israeli citizens. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu warned that Israel will escalate its responses to the rocket attacks, while Defense Minister Ehud Barak told Army Radio that Israel must ensure freedom of operations for the IDF. Palestinian news agency Ma'an reported two members of the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization were killed and seven Palestinians were injured in the bombings overnight.
