White House denies Ankara’s claim of joint Obama-Erdoğan mosque opening in Maryland. (Bugun).
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu’s claim that President Obama had accepted President Erdoğan’s offer to open a mosque in the state of Maryland was denied by the White House.
At a dinner with the representatives of the local Muslim community in Washington, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu claimed that US President Barack Obama had promised Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that they would be opening a mosque, currently under construction in Maryland, together.
“During a telephone conversation President Erdoğan proposed to Obama that they open the center together,” said the foreign minister, “Obama accepted the proposal in principle.”
However in a statement to Turkish daily Cumhuriyet, the White House’s National Security Council spokesman Mark Stroh responded that President Obama had never said anything about attending such a ceremony. “President Obama has made no statement about such an engagement,” the statement read, with White House sources emphasizing that no such plan to attend such an event existed.
Çavuşoğlu has been in Washington for a four-day visit since April 18, where he has met with government officials, think tanks and civil organizations. Hmmm..........Who's lying?
