Iran welcomes amicable relations with Canada's Trudeau admin.

Iran welcomes amicable relations with Canada's Trudeau admin. (IHN).

Iran would welcome reinforcing relations with Canada, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said here on Monday.

Hossein Jaber Ansari made the remarks at his weekly press briefing in Tehran.

Commenting on Canada’s severing diplomatic relations with Iran, he said the fresh stance of the new Canadian government has been announced in mass media.

The ex-Canadian government severed its relations with Iran and we hope the new Canadian government would practice proper political and diplomatic measures aimed at fostering relations with Iran,’ he added.

‘Iran did not cut its relations with Canada and naturally Tehran would welcome amicable relations with Ottawa,’ he added.

Canadian ex-Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s administration severed diplomatic relations with Iran in September 2012, citing, among other pretexts, what it described as continued threats from Iran to Israel.

Back then, the Canadian government closed its embassy in the Iranian capital, Tehran, and demanded that Iranian diplomats leave Canada within five days.

The two countries maintain interest sections in the embassies of third countries.

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney seeking new powers to bar 'certain visitors' from entering Canada.

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney seeking new powers to bar 'certain visitors' from entering Canada.(Yahoo).It appears that Immigration Minister Jason Kenney wants to be our gatekeeper.
On Tuesday, Parliament passed second reading of Bill C-43 — the Faster Removal of Criminals Act — which would give the immigration minister the authority to deny a foreign national entry to Canada based on "public policy grounds."
In a telephone press conference from London, Kenney suggested that the case of anti-Muslim preacher Terry Jones and his attempt to come to Canada demonstrates the need for such legislation.
"[Current immigration laws are] basically focused on criminality and national security. But in some countries, it is not a crime to promote hatred or even violence against certain groups," he said according to the Globe and Mail.

Kenney also noted another instance last year when Quebec's national assembly asked the Harper government to bar two imams who promoted hatred against women, gays, and Jews.
"We have no power to deny their entry because they did not have serious criminal records or involvement in terrorist organizations and they did not otherwise represent a security threat," he said.
The immigration minister has conceded to tabling specific criteria to Committee with regards to his definition of "public policy grounds."
NDP immigration critic Jinny Sims says that her party will look at the "criteria" but can't accept the fact that the minister will still be the ultimate arbitrator.
"When you have a key issue of like who can and cannot enter our country in the hands of a minister we have politicized our immigration system beyond what is acceptable," she told Yahoo! Canada News in a telephone interview.
"We all live in this real world. We know that there are some people that we don't want this in this country because they can do us harm. And we will support measures that will go along those lines.
"[But] need to have very clear criteria and then it needs to be put in the hands of independent people. I'll tell you why — depending on whose in power if you agree with their political ideology you'll bring them in and if you don't you won't."
Bill C-43 will now move to the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration. It's expected to pass by the end of the Fall session.Hmmmm.........Will Salman Rushdie still be allowed in Canada? Read the full story here.

Video - Khairi trial: Man decapitates wife for being too Western - The 9-11 call

Toronto mother’s throat slit for letting children adopt Canadian culture.(NP).Randjida Khairi was stabbed five times in her chest and back. She had her throat cut, a wound so ugly and deep that it sliced through her neck muscles, voicebox and windpipe — stopping only at her spine.
She was stabbed with two different knives. She drowned in her own blood; a process a pathologist would later determine took between five and 10 minutes. Police discovered Ms. Khairi’s body lying on a bloody cot in her family home, a 16th floor apartment in the northwest corner of Toronto, otherwise all tidy and neat, with a kitchen full of pots. The victim was the mother of six. The victim was married to her killer for 30 years.Hmmm.....There is NO HONOR in MURDER!

Russian TV interview suggests Pussy Riot member a permanent resident of Canada.

Russian TV interview suggests Pussy Riot member a permanent resident of Canada.(HP).OTTAWA—A jailed member of Russian feminist punk band Pussy Riot might have immigrated to Canada prior to the political stunt involving masks and a cathedral that landed her behind bars. Nadezdha Tolokonnikova, 23, is the best known face of Pussy Riot, a punk group whose members have been in jail since February, when they stormed a cathedral in Moscow wearing summer dresses, tights and colourful balaclavas, shouting a prayer to the Virgin Mary to deliver Russia from Vladimir Putin, who was set to win a third term as president the following month. An excerpt from a Russian state television newscast posted to YouTube suggests Tolokonnikova has a tie to Canada that is strong enough for her to have received a permanent resident card as recently as last year — something that only someone who is physically present in Canada and has met immigration requirements can obtain.
I’ve been to Canada and I have the right to visit it but I didn’t get a residency permit,” Tolokonnikova told Russian state television journalist Arkady Mamontov during the interview that aired in April.
Tolokonnikova said she went to Canada on a visa. “I don’t have a residency there and am not yet planning to leave Russia. I’ll wait and continue fighting for now,” Tolokonnikova says in the interview, according to a translation provided to the Star. The newscast then cuts to Moscow police investigator Artyom Ranchenkov showing an Ontario health insurance card and a permanent resident card allegedly belonging to Tolokonnikova. A close-up of the permanent resident card shows it expires on April 5, 2016, which suggests that Tolokonnikova either received or renewed the card in 2011, because they are valid for five years. Canadian government sources said the card depicted in the shot appears to be a real one. Tolokonnikova’s husband, Pyotr Verzilov, told the Washington Post in July that he got a Canadian passport after attending junior high school in Toronto.Pictures of his Canadian passport have been held up on Russian TV in an attempt to show that Verzilov, a street performer and activist, is trying to destroy Russia, the Post reported. Citizenship and Immigration Canada spokeswoman Nancy Caron said she could not speak specifically about the case of Tolokonnikova, but noted that permanent resident cards are not handed out to people visiting the country on a visa.Hmmmm......."Ooooooh Canada"?Read the full story here.

Canada: Muslim preacher calls on Toronto to “introduce laws that would make it illegal for women to dress provocatively”.

Canada: Muslim preacher calls on Toronto to “introduce laws that would make it illegal for women to dress provocatively”.(TorontoSun).By Terry Davidson.Canadian laws should be changed to require women to "cover themselves" to prevent sexual assaults, says an Islamic street preacher in Toronto. Al-Haashim Kamena Atangana, a 33-year-old Islamic convert, called for legal change in response to recent sex attacks at York University. Atangana is connected with a group called Muslim Support Network and is one of a number of street-corner clerics commonly seen at the Yonge and Dundas Sts. In an e-mail to the Toronto Sun, Atangana said "the reason ... these sex attacks are continuously happening is because (of) Canadian laws, which give too much freedom to women" when it comes to how they dress. "You should take your example from the way Muslim women dress," he wrote.
"Why does (sic) Muslim women who wear long dress and covers her head aren't targeted for sex attacks?" The clash between western culture and values and the beliefs of some Muslim adherents has been a source of controversy and conflict across North America. Atangana, who plans to distribute his views on paper in the coming weeks, went on to state that "the reason ... a woman gets raped is because of the way she (dresses)," and suggests that "Toronto (become) the first city in North America to introduce laws that would make it illegal for women to dress provocatively."
If Toronto did this, Atangana said in an interview, other Canadian cities would follow suit. "If (women) want to prevent being sexually assaulted, they should cover themselves," said Atangana, adding that while he doesn't expect Western women to dress as Muslim women do, they should have a "dress code" and take note of the burka the head scarf and face veil some Muslim females wear. Atangana says he began planning to distribute his views after a recent spate of sex assaults at York University's Keele campus, and praised Const. Michael Sanguinetti, a Toronto police officer who ended up in hot water after telling students at a York University safety forum in January that women should avoid dressing like "sluts" if they didn't want to be victimized. The website Atangana provided for his group, Muslimsupport.net, is sparsely populated but contains links to other sites that offer advice on conversion to Islam and Islamic dress, including such advice as this: "Men must cover their body from the navel to the knees. But when praying he must also cover his shoulder." "Women must cover their whole body except the face, hands and feet while inside. But they are also required to cover their whole body including a part of the face while going out, according to the majority of the Madhabs (school of thought)."
Moderate Muslim writer Tarek Fatah says Atangana's view is a stark example of radical Islamist misogyny. It is an example, Fatah says, of passages taken from the Qur'an, Islam's holy book, and exaggerated to fit an antiquated, patriarchal ideology such as that of the Muslim Brotherhood. "This is not about what women wear," Fatah said. "This is about ... some Muslim men believing that any woman whose head is uncovered is fair game because she is lustful...and doesn't belong to the pious (Islamic) sisterhood." Fatah says it is "hogwash" to think a woman wearing traditional Islamic dress will not be sexually assaulted, and points to an on-going problem of sexual harassment in Egypt, where Muslim faith dominates. But Alia Hogben of the Canadian Council of Muslim Women sees things differently: Atangana's opinions are not as much to do with Islam as much as they reflect a general patriarchal desire among some men to control women. "There is absolutely no connection between how women dress and being sexually assaulted," Hogben said, adding that other religions from Judaism to Christianity have traditional dress codes of their own. She did agree, however, that "good, pious" Muslim women are sexually harassed, despite wearing modest and traditional clothing. "
If (Atangana) thinks good, pious Muslim women are not sexually assaulted, he's wrong. If he thinks this is not happening in India or Egypt ... it is not true." As for Atangana, who converted to Islam in 1998 after finding the Trinity of Christianity the belief in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit too "confusing," he remains steadfast in his views. "Women here should have a dress code," he says. "That would prevent sexual assault."Read the full story here.
