Al-Azhar grand sheikh to meet with Iranian FM in Cairo Thursday .
"CHANGE" - Al-Azhar grand sheikh to meet with Iranian FM in Cairo Thursday.(Imra).Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb will meet with Iran’s foreign minister in Cairo on Thursday afternoon.
State-run news agency MENA reported Tuesday that Tayyeb and Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi would review the latest developments in the Arab and Islamic arenas, and what Al-Azhar could possibly do to help achieve national reconciliation in Egypt.
Iran and Egypt severed ties after Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979, due to the Egyptian government’s support for the overthrown Shah and its peace agreement with Israel. Both nations have long vied for power in the Middle East. Egypt has been allied with the US and Israel for decades, but since the ouster of former President Hosni Mubarak relations between Cairo and Tehran have warmed.
President Mohamed Morsy's visit to Iran in August was the first by an Egyptian president since the Iranian revolution.Hmmm.....Carter had Iran , Obama has Egypt.Read the full story here.

Ryan says under Obama, Middle East looks like '1979 Tehran' .
Ryan says under Obama, Middle East looks like '1979 Tehran'.(TheHill).Paul Ryan delivered a blistering speech against President Obama on foreign policy Monday, saying because of the president's policies, the Middle East looks like Tehran during the mob protests on the U.S. embassy in 1979. Ryan, speaking in Lima, Ohio, was referencing Nov. 4, 1979, when Islamic revolutionaries in Iran attacked the U.S. embassy and took more than 50 Americans hostage. Ryan said that Obama has failed to fulfill promises to bring peace to the Middle East. "I mean, turn on the TV and it reminds you of 1979 Tehran but they're burning our flags in capitals all around the world. They're storming our embassies," Ryan said. "We've lost four of our diplomats. And what is the signal that our government is sending the rest of the world? We're being equivocal on our values, we're being slow to speak up for individual rights, for human rights, for democracy. We're seeing countries stifle freedom in Iran, in Russia, and all these other areas. And we're saying we're going to gut our military — that projects weakness."Hmmmm......Obama: "All the Choices We've Made Have Been the Right Ones" Read the full story here.

Obama already so certain of his coming re-election victory that he's dropping his ' I love Israel mask'?
Obama already so certain of his coming re-election victory that he's dropping his ' I love Israel mask'?HT: IsraelMatzav.Jennifer Rubin writes that President Obama is daring American Jews to vote against him by giving former President Jimmy Carter, the anti-Semite from Plains, a prime time speaking spot at the Democratic National Convention.
It is mind boggling that no one stopped this and that the president’s team, which is micromanaging the convention, does not after 3 ½ years “get it.” Matt Brooks of the Republican Jewish Coalition e-mailed me:
“The fact that the DNC would offer a prime time speaking slot to Jimmy Carter highlights just how out of touch and tone deaf they are. Giving a platform to someone who has been openly hostile to Israel and equated the country to the South African apartheid regime is offensive. At a time when the Obama campaign is launching a charm offensive to the American Jewish community this message will resonate loud and clear with American Jews as to why it’s time for a change in 2012.” The offense is so obvious that usually staunch Democrats are speaking out.
The National Democratic Jewish Council (NJDC) issued a stern rebuke. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) did as well: “He is flawed, he’s got an obsession with Israel, a biased obsession that borders on anti-Semitism,” said [the ADL’s Abe] Foxman. “So that’s not somebody I think should grace the podium of a national convention.” Foxman added that Carter probably lobbied organizers for the speaking role, putting the DNC in an awkward position. “I don’t think he deserves to be there, except it’s hard to refuse a platform to a former living president especially when he asks for it,” said Foxman. NJDC President and CEO David Harris also unloaded on Carter in an e-mailed statement. “When it comes to Israel and the Middle East, President Carter has unfortunately embarrassed himself — as his analysis and commentary has been stubbornly wrong, harmful to the peace process, and getting worse all the time,” said Harris. “I’m confident that he won’t be speaking to the Party about Middle East policy.” Harris added: “I’d like to know if Senator Rand Paul will be spreading his views of the Middle East and foreign aid in Tampa.”Hmmmm.....................But I’m also mindful of the proverb, “A man is judged by his deeds, not his words.” So if you want to know where my heart lies, look no further than what I have done — to stand up for Israel .Read the full story here.

Iranian naval admiral: ‘If needed, we can move to within three miles of New York’
Hmmmm.......At least with Carter as President they stayed in Iran
Iranian naval admiral: ‘If needed, we can move to within three miles of New York’.(Yahoo).By Reza Kahlili. The Islamic Republic of Iran said Tuesday that it has the ability to position a naval vessel within three miles of the East Coast of the United States. “The power of our naval forces is such that we have a presence in all the waters of the world and, if needed, we can move to within three miles of New York,” Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi said Tuesday during a speech to the students of the University of Yazd in Iran. His remarks were quoted by an Iranian student news agency. This naval saber rattling represents a stark escalation in Iran’s war rhetoric, as the West weighs the question of whether to impose new economic sanctions or directly attack the Islamic regime’s illicit nuclear facilities. “The Americans’ only tool to rule the world is their naval dominance of the Persian Gulf,” Fadavi added, “and they will face any other power that threatens their status.” The admiral was speaking on the anniversary of a failed April 24, 1980 U.S. military operation — dubbed “Operation Eagle Claw” — that sought to rescue American hostages held captive at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. A Pentagon official responded to Fadavi’s claim on Friday. “You should ask the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps what their plans are,” the official told The Daily Caller. “We support freedom of the seas and encourage all countries to follow international laws.”
But on Friday, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, Iran’s top air force commander, told the Fars New Agency that the Islamic republic’s military is also capable of crippling or disabling U.S. aircraft carriers. “First, sinking an aircraft carrier is not a complicated task,” Hajizadeh said. ”Second, an aircraft carrier is equipped with so many advanced, delicate, and sensitive devices … that it could be incapacitated by even the smallest explosion.” Although the U.S. military would likely intercept Iranian naval vessels before they could enter U.S. territorial waters, Iranian commercial vessels sailing under another country’s flag — if en route to Venezuela, for instance — could come close enough to the American shoreline to strike the U.S. Iran already possesses the capability to launch ballistic missiles from a ship. Concerns about Iran’s nuclear-weapons ambitions make the threat of a naval incursion into U.S. waters a more pressing issue.
Texas Republican Rep. Michael Conaway is promoting the Credible Military Option to Counter Iran Act, H.R. 4485, as one measure to prevent Iran from building a nuclear bomb. The bill formalizes an understood U.S. policy “to take all necessary measures, including military action if required, to prevent Iran from threatening the United States, its allies, or Iran’s neighbors with a nuclear weapon.” It also allocates more than $594 million to enhance American firepower in the Persian Gulf region in fiscal 2012 and 2013. “Preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon is among the most urgent national security challenges facing the United States,” Conaway wrote Wednesday in a “dear colleague” letter to other members of Congress. His legislation is needed, he said, “to prevent the increasingly dangerous situation in Iran from spiraling out of control.” “My bill demonstrates to a defiant Iranian regime that the United States is prepared to take military action should they not halt their nuclear program,” Conaway told TheDC on Friday. “We must have a credible military option on the table to advance any real negotiations.”Hmmmm.......At least with Carter as President they stayed in Iran.Read the full story here.
