Three of the four on-ice officials for the gold medal hockey game are Canadian and the fourth lives in Canada

Three of the four on-ice officials for the gold medal hockey game are Canadian and the fourth lives in Canada. (TheSpec) By Dave Feschuk

SOCHI, RUSSIA It does, on the face of it, seem a little lop-sided.

Of the four on-ice officials assigned to work Sunday's Olympic gold-medal game between Canada and Sweden, three are Canadian-born.

This fact hasn't gone unnoticed in Scandinavia. Peter Forsberg, the penalty-shootout hero of Sweden's 1994 gold-medal victory over Canada at the Lillehammer Olympics, reportedly texted a Swedish newspaper to register his dismay about the passport count.

"What a f---ing joke!" was Forsberg's reported two cents.

Perhaps it doesn't help that the one official who can't claim Canada as a birthplace — U.S.-bred referee Brad Meier — lives in Calgary. Meier will be on the ice for the gold-medal climax along with fellow referee Kelly Sutherland of Richmond, B.C. The assigned linesmen are Derek Amell of Port Colborne, Ont., and Greg Devorski of Guelph. All four men make their living presiding over NHL games.

Swedish coach Par Marts said he is not concerned with the North American officiating, which is assigned by the International Ice Hockey Federation and approved by both teams.

"I don't care," said Swedish coach. "I hope they do their job. That's all I can focus on. I can't change it. No problem with that."

Report: Obama Set to Reject Keystone Pipeline.Canada already selling out to the Chinese?

Report: Obama Set to Reject Keystone Pipeline.(BI).The Obama administration is expected to reject the controversial Keystone Pipeline this afternoon, according to Fox News. The State Department is expected to vote against the pipeline this afternoon. Transcanada will however be allowed to reapply with an alternate route going through Nebraska. The administration will be unlikely to approve the pipeline under the timeline for the payroll tax cut extension law which requires a decision by February 21.

Hmmmm..........No real surprise there, PM Harper isn't waiting for the OK from the Obama Admin he's already selling parts of the Alberta sands to the Chinese .As he pointed out : "But just because certain people in the United States would like to see Canada be one giant national park for the northern half of North America, I don't think that's part of what our review process is all about".

The $5.5-billion Enbridge pipeline project is all about sending Alberta bitumen in huge oil tankers to China. Beijing’s own state enterprises are among the project’s major backers, and Beijing has been buying up Alberta’s oilpatch at such a dizzying pace lately it’s hard to keep up.
  1. In the spring of 2010, China’s state-owned Sinopec Corp. took a $4.65-billion piece of Syncrude.
  2. Then the China Investment Corporation, which is run by the Chinese Communist Party, took possession of a $1.25-billion share of Penn West Petroleum.
  3. Last summer, the Chinese National Offshore Oil Corporation gobbled up Opti Canada for $2.34 billion. And so on.
  4. then last month, Sinopec spent $2.2-billion to take over Daylight Energy Ltd.,
  5. and last week, Petro-China, with the final push of $1.9 billion, became the owner and manager of the MacKay River oilsands project.
Apparently PM Harper knows he can't rely on Pres Obama, he knows where the money is and what creates jobs. Read the full story here.More Under Obama, Oil and Gas Production on Federal Lands Is Down 40% here.

Japan needs to discharge a total of 11,500 metric tons of low-contaminated water into the ocean from a stricken nuclear power plant, a Japanese official said on Monday. Koichiro Nakamura, a deputy director general of Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA), said the measure was needed to "avoid a more serious risk," without elaborating. He spoke at a news conference after he and other Japanese officials briefed member states of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna about the crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi plant. Plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) was forced on Monday to release low-level radioactive seawater that had been used to cool overheated fuel rods after it ran out of storage capacity for more highly contaminated water. TEPCO said it would release more than 10,000 tonnes of water about 100 times more radioactive than legal limits in order to free storage capacity for more highly contaminated water. Nakamura, citing information from the company, said the 10,000 tonnes needed to be dumped into the ocean to make storage space for higher-radioactive water now in reactor unit 2. Another 1,500 tonnes was accumulated ground water in a drain pit of units 5 and 6. "The total amount of water we need to discharge is 11,500 tonnes," he said, speaking through an interpreter. • House Votes this Week to Reverse FCC Net Neutrality Power Grab. The Congressional Review Act (CRA) Resolution of Disapproval of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)’s December 21st illegal Internet power grab, executed so they could then impose Network Neutrality – will be marked up today, and brought to the House floor for a full vote this week. This is our first opportunity to rein in the Barack Obama Administration’s ongoing, all-encompassing effort to bypass Congress and enact their Leftist policies via executive branch regulatory fiat. There are thirteen swing-district Democrats on whom pressure has been put by their leadership to stand for the ridiculous and oppressive notion that is Net Neutrality – by voting Nay on the CRA Resolution.

    • HT:AmnonAndJonathan.Murdered by Peace !Israeli peace activist Juliano Mer Khamis shot dead in Jenin. An Israeli actor and peace activist who ran a drama project in a Palestinian refugee camp has been shot dead by masked men, metres from the theatre he founded.Juliano Mer Khamis, 52, had received threats for his work in Jenin in the northern West Bank but continued to divide his time between Jenin and Haifa in the north of Israel. Witnesses said he was shot five times.Mer Khamis appeared in a number of Israeli films after his first film role in the 1984 production of the John Le Carre novel The Little Drummer Girl, about Mossad's hunt for a PLO bomber. He was born to a Jewish mother and an Arab Christian father. His mother, Arna, was renowned for setting up a theatre group in Jenin during the first Intifada which started in 1987. Mer Khamis directed the film Arna's Children, which celebrated her work, which he continued after her death in 1994. His wife, Jenny, a Finn, is pregnant with twins. She heard of his death from Israeli radio.Mer Khamis's body was transported to an Israeli checkpoint, from where it was taken to Tel Aviv for a postmortem examination. While his work was widely appreciated by Palestinians, his bringing together of young men and women angered conservative Muslim elements in Jenin. In addition to threats, fire bombs were thrown at the theatre. However the project was supported by local militants. Zakaria Zubeidi, a leader of the al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, frequented the theatre as a child.Kadura Musa, governor of Jenin, said: "He was a Palestinian citizen of Israeli origin. An actor and an artist but most of all a true human being. We don't know why this happened, but all the people of the camp condemn the death of this son of ours whose mother also did so much for the people of Jenin."Read the full story here.

    • HT:TheAmericanDream.Debt Management: Is There Any Hope For America’s Debt Problem?Wouldn't it be nice if our politicians in Washington D.C. simply decided that we are not going to spend more money then we bring in? That would just seem to be common sense. After all, what do most of those big time debt management seminars teach? Most of the time they tell families with debt problems that the very first thing that they need to do is to stop spending so much darn money. Well, with the U.S. government things are just not that simple. In fact, even the most "crazy" budget proposals floating around Congress right now would not balance the federal budget until 20 years from now. The truth is that there does not seem to be much hope for America's debt problem. In fact, it appears to be inevitable that it will continue to get worse long into the future. So is there anyone in Congress that is serious about balancing the budget right now? Well, there are a handful of politicians in Washington that want to address the problem right now, but they are generally labeled as "extremists" by the mainstream media.Instead, the mainstream media has been focusing on the brutal fight over the small budget cuts that the establishment Republicans are proposing. CNN, Fox News and MSNBC make it seem as though this is a "life or death" fight, but the reality is that it really isn't going to make much of a difference no matter who wins.Right now the Obama administration estimates that the federal budget deficit for fiscal 2011 will be approximately 1.6 trillion dollars.

The Republicans propose to reduce that amount by 3.8%.

The Democrats say that they only want to cut it by 2.1%.

Wow, both parties are really wielding the budget-cutting axe, eh?The truth is that this situation is a complete and total joke.Read the full story here.

    • Now there are eight: Growing horror as police find bodies of three MORE 'Craigslist killer' victims on Long Island beach.Searchers scouring the dense undergrowth of a New York beach for victims of a suspected serial killer have made the gruesome discovery of three more bodies, authorities revealed today. The chilling find brings the total of victims police believe were murdered by the 'Craigslist killer' to at least seven. An eighth body has also been found but investigators have not officially connected it to the case yet. The search was originally sparked by the disappearance of a New Jersey prostitute named Shannan Gilbert. Despite the discovery of seven other bodies, she has not yet been found.Searchers perched in fire truck bucket ladders and others on foot are scanning the tick-infested vegetation for more bodies.Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer said the search was expected to resume tomorrow.Police also employed helicopters and cadaver dogs, as well as police academy cadets, detectives and volunteer firefighters, in their search through thick underbrush and evergreens on a barrier island south of Long Island.Dominick Varrone, Suffolk's chief of detectives, said the dogs were having a difficult time maneuvering through the brush. 'They don't like getting smacked in the face with the bramble,' he said.Police said as many as 20 officers had been infected with poison ivy during recent searches.Gilbert, 24, was last seen in Oak Beach on May 1, 2010, after apparently meeting a client she had booked through Craigslist. The bodies of the four other women, who also worked as Craigslist escorts and were in their 20s, were found along the same highway by police searching for Gilbert.Suffolk County police said that there were substantial similarities in how the four women discovered in December died but declined to reveal their causes of death at the time. The four dead prostitutes were found in December in the area, a four-foot-tall tangle of sea grass punctuated by scrubby pine trees. Each of those bodies had been wrapped in burlap - a type of sack-like cloth - and were reportedly found clustered within five hundred feet of the other nearest victim.Authorities believe the women were killed at a different location but then their bodies were dumped on the Long Island beach.Read the full story here.

    • Bloody Pig's Foot Mailed to Top House Republican King.A bloody pig’s foot was sent to the chairman of the House committee on Homeland Security, Rep. Pete King, R-New York, along with an anti-Semitic note referencing King’s contentious hearings last month examining the radicalization of American-Muslim youths. The package was intercepted before it reached King’s DC office, at a postal screening facility off Capitol Hill that radiates and searches congressional mail for explosives and chemicals before being delivered to an office, according to a congressional source familiar with the investigation. It was not immediately clear where the package was mailed from or when it was intercepted by screeners. U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider would not confirm the contents of the package but told ABC News “We have an active open investigation re: this incident and are working with postal inspectors.”The controversial hearing March 10 was the first in a series by the committee examining the radicalization of the American-Muslim youth and drew intense scrutiny from interfaith community activists. Numerous lawmakers also spoke out against the topic of the hearings, calling for a broader examination of radical extremism among other religions and belief groups in addition to Islam.Hmmmm.......Now who would do this?Read the full story here.

    • HT:Aina.Turkey Slams Argentine Court Ruling on Genocide.ANKARA -- Turkey slammed a Friday Argentine court ruling, which said the Turkish state committed Genocide against the Armenians. The Turkish foreign ministry on Monday said the ruling is an example of how legal systems are abused by "extreme nationalists" belonging to the Armenian Diaspora. The ministry said the decision was based on unserious accusations and it destabilizes Turkey's efforts to mend ties with Armenia, reported the Associated Press. Armenia's Ambassador to Argentina, Vladimir Karmirshalyan, on Saturday said the Argentine judge upheld the "the right to the truth."An Argentine judge ruled Friday that "the Turkish state committed the crime of genocide against the Armenian people" between 1915 and 1923.The 100-plus page ruling, which was read Friday, resulted from a case presented 10-year ago by the Luisa Hairapetian Fund. Throughout the proceedings, which lasted 120 months, the court has heard grueling testimony from Genocide survivors, their families and other members of the community. The plaintiff, Gregorio Hairapetian was joined by his family, attorneys for the Luisa Hairapetian Foundation, the Argentine press corps, as well as the Armenian National Committee of Argentina members and the community at large. In his ruling Friday, Judge Norberto Oyarbide said that Turkey should help an Armenian descendant living in Argentina learn the fate of more than 50 of his relatives who disappeared nearly a century ago.Oyarbide used as a basis for his ruling the 2007 Argentine law that declares April 23 as a day of "solidarity and respect" in memory of the Armenian Genocide.Hmmmm......Erdogan "Muslims don't commit genocide".Read the full story here.More on the Armenian genocide here .

    • Cemal Pasha’s Grandson Says Genocide, Morgenthau’s Great Granddaughter doesn’t.Hundreds of Armenians turned out at UCLA last Thursday night to hear with great apprehension Hasan Cemal, the grandson of Cemal Pasha -- one of the top three Turkish butchers of the Armenian nation. This unique and controversial event, titled "From Der Zor to Dzidzernagapert: A Conversation with Hasan Cemal," was organized by AGBU Asbeds.

Understandably, there was great tension in the air. The large hall was filled to capacity and many were turned away due to lack of room. The presence of armed policemen and security guards inside the hall was both reassuring and disturbing. Cemal confirmed that he was cautioned against coming to Los Angeles, but fortunately everything proceeded calmly. The most shocking thing that evening was not what Cemal said, but what another speaker, Dr. Pamela Steiner, the great granddaughter of Amb. Henry Morgenthau, did not say! Kurken Berksanlar, Chairman of ABGU Asbeds, welcomed everyone to "an open-minded conversation." While admitting that some Armenians view with great suspicion Turks who acknowledge the Genocide, he believed that "progressive” Turks, who are speaking openly about the evens of 1915…, appear to be above and beyond the reach and control of today’s Turkish government."A columnist at Milliyet newspaper, Cemal immediately won over his skeptical audience by greeting them in Armenian -- "parev harkeli paregamner" -- and telling them: "I came here to open my heart and open my mind to you…. I know your pain, your grief of Genocide, your grief of Meds Yeghern." Ignoring Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code which bans the use of the term Armenian Genocide, he courageously repeated those words several more times during his talk. He also condemned the Turkish government’s denial of the Armenian Genocide, calling it "colluding in the crime!"I found Cemal to be both candid and brave. He could have easily avoided the use of the term Armenian Genocide, maintaining that doing so could land him in jail. However, he made no excuses and used the genocide term several times. Calling his own grandfather "a beast" who was responsible for "the Great Catastrophe," he described today’s Turkey as "a manic-depressive country!"On the other hand, Dr. Steiner, as a Jewish-American and direct descendant of Amb. Morgenthau, cannot be excused for her persistent refusal to use the term genocide, despite her self-avowed good intentions. Anyone who does not acknowledge the truth of the Armenian Genocide loses the moral authority to play a constructive role in Armenian-Turkish relations. One cannot remain neutral between a victim and victimizer. She should heed the wise words of Holocaust survivor and Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel who stated: "Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim!"Two days after her talk at UCLA, Dr. Steiner sent me a lengthy e-mail explaining further her role as facilitator and insisting that Amb. Morgenthau would have supported her work. I cannot pretend to know her great grandfather better than her, but being familiar with the Ambassador’s humanitarian efforts during and after the Genocide, I have no doubt that he would have done everything possible to bring justice to Armenians, rather than remaining neutral between the perpetrators and their victims.Hmmmm....."Countries which have officially recognized the so-called Armenian genocide will face retaliation from Turkey, warned Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan".Read the full story here.

    • HT:Aina.Turkish Assyrians Lament Problems With Education, St. Gabriel Monastery.Syriacs in Turkey are fighting to regain their rite to educate their children in their own language, which is recognized by UNESCO as being in danger of extinction. At the same time, many Syriacs are hoping to stop a land grab against the community's most symbolic center in the country, the 1,700-year-old Mor Gabriel Monastery in MardinTurkey's dwindling number of Syriacs are caught in bureaucratic limbo and are unable to adequately teach their children either their language or their religion, according to members of the community."We need a school," Şabo Boyacı, a leading figure of the Assyrian community and editor of www.suryaniler.com, recently told the Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review. "But even if we are allowed to have one, we would face difficulties in education because it is almost impossible to have a teacher fluent in Syriac to teach adequately."The last Syriac school closed its doors in 1938. "Until the late 1980s, we were going to Armenian and Greek minority schools. But there was a complaint issued, it resulted in a state inquiry and we were deprived of this right," said Boyacı.Turkey does not recognize the 15,000-strong Christian Syriacs as a minority, unlike the Greek Orthodox, Armenians and Jews, each of whom is permitted to maintain their own school systems; as such, many from the community attend public schools, especially in Istanbul. Nonetheless, because they are Christians, they are exempted from mandatory religious classes, like the recognized minorities."Because [my daughter] is a Christian, she is exempted from the religious courses, but this makes her feel like the 'other,'" Mesopotamia Culture and Solidarity Association board member Tuma Özdemir told the Daily News. "She should have education in line with her beliefs. Once when she asked me, 'Why we are not converting to Islam and becoming part of the whole?' I was deeply saddened. Our children go to the elderly in order to learn one or two hymns. We have only one church in Istanbul and we cannot even raise our own men of religion.""We have not only been deprived of our education right," Boyacı said, adding that they also faced problems with religious complexes in Southeast Anatolia, primarily the 1,700-year-old Deyrulumur, or Mor Gabriel Monastery, in the town of Midyat, Mardin. Summary: In February 2009 Spanish counter-terrorism investigators opened a case against Faical Errai, a native of Morocco who was then living in Spain, and who was just starting to establish the Ansar al-Mujahideen Arabic Forum (AMAF). In December of 2009 two members of AMAF engaged in a private discussion which was captured by an un-named police force (presumably Spanish). One participant was in Belgium, the other in Saudi Arabia. The contents of that discussion were shared with authorities in Belgium, who opened their own investigation as a result. Faical was subsequently arrested in Spain in late August 2010, and the Belgium investigation culminated in the arrest of seven jihadis, including at least one AMAF member, in November of 2010 (three other individuals were arrested in Netherlands and Germany in relation to the same case). Saudi authorities took their guy into custody in April of 2011.Within the past week a Dutch translation of the original Arabic discussion at AMAF was released to the Belgium media - a text transcript was published by De Standaard newspaper, while excerpts were cited in a de Redactie TV news report (which is dubbed in English at this link).Read and see the full story here.

    • HT:JudicialWatch.JW Statement on the Obama Justice Department’s Announcement that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will be Tried before Military Commission.Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton issued the following statement today regarding the Obama Justice Department’s stunning reversal that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will be tried by a military commission and not by a civil court in New York City, as the Obama administration had originally planned.

“It is no coincidence that this stunning reversal comes on the day that President Obama announced his reelection campaign. The mishandling of the KSM trial is another blow to Attorney General Eric Holder, who should have been replaced long ago. Mr. Holder has demonstrated that he is incapable of providing the leadership necessary for the fair and competent administration of justice at DOJ.”

“KSM long ago pled guilty to the charges initially brought against him in military commission proceedings. That he still walks the face of the Earth highlights the moral and strategic failure of the Obama administration’s approach to the terrorist detention issue. We hope this political decision will begin to undo the damage done to our nation’s security by the Obama administration’s ideological attack on Gitmo.”

Regarding the military tribunal system, Judicial Watch Litigation Director Paul Orfanedes visited Guantanamo Bay in 2008 by invitation to monitor military commission proceedings against Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other top 9/11 conspirators. Judicial Watch’s presence provided some balance to the ACLU and other radical groups advocating for the terrorist detainees. Following his visit to Guantanamo Bay, Mr. Orfanedes said he witnessed a “deep commitment” to justice on the part of military lawyers.Judicial Watch has been sharply critical of the Obama administration’s mishandling of the Khalid Sheikh Mohammed decision and the administration’s expressed intent to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. Judicial Watch has also battled the Obama administration to obtain documents that would shed light on the threat of terrorism and the administration’s response. For example, Judicial Watch recently obtained documents from the Department of Defense (DOD) detailing the significant risks of releasing “enemy combatants” detained at Guantanamo Bay. Judicial Watch also obtained documents from the Obama DOD detailing a deliberate campaign by al-Qaida and other extremist groups to recruit juveniles and launch terrorist attacks against children. The records consist of two Joint Task Force Intelligence Information Reports from debriefs of detainees at the U.S. terrorist detention facility in Guantanamo Bay.Read the full story here.

    • Harper’s promise to kill gun registry could trigger additional rural seats. The federal long-gun registry, long a thorn in the side of many rural Canadians and hunters, is back on the Conservative policy agenda, not that it ever really left.Tory leader Stephen Harper promised again today to scrap the registry hoping to attract rural voters and erode support of a number of NDP and Liberal candidates who changed their positions during a parliamentary vote on a private members bill last September. So, the inevitable question was tabled by a reporter in Welland, Ont. where Harper reiterated his party's position: If you win a majority government, what about other private members bills introduced concerning issues such as abortion?Clearly, there's concern among some of the electorate that a few socially conservative members of Harper's caucus will use a majority to attempt to implement their agenda. But is that fear valid? Harper says no."Our agenda is the same agenda with a majority government or a minority government," he told reporters. And, it was no accident Harper chose Welland to make the promise. Welland NDP Malcolm Allen voted against killing the gun registry and only retained his riding in the 2008 election by a small margin, fewer than 500 votes to his Conservative rival. The Tories hope to capitalize on this and in other vulnerable ridings as well, including several in northern Ontario. The Tories have targeted eight Liberals and six New Democrats in this campaign over their vote reversal on the gun registry. While killing the long-gun registry has been a Conservative party plank from the outset, it's apparent in this election it could be the difference between a majority and minority government.Read the full story here.

It's also a standard tactic among online fraudsters to send emails to random people, purporting to be from a large bank and asking them to login in at a site that looks like the bank's site. Instead, the fraudulent site captures their login information and uses it to access the real account. The data breach could make these so-called 'phishing' attacks more efficient, by allowing the fraudsters to target people who actually have an account with the bank.Among the affected businesses are financial-service companies such as Capital One Financial Corp, Barclays Bank, U.S. Bancorp, Citigroup Inc, JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Ameriprise Financial Inc.Retailers include Best Buy Co, TiVo Inc, Walgreen Co.and Kroger Co. The College Board, the not-for-profit organisation that runs the SATs, also warned that the breach may have led to student email addresses being obtained. Walt Disney's travel subsidiary, Disney Destinations, sent emails warning customers on Sunday. Hotel chain Marriott International issued a similar warning. Epsilon said Friday that its system had been breached, exposing email addresses and customer names but no other personal information. • HT:NuclearHistory.Evacuees warned not to return to homes for short inspections.Workers are racing to find the source of contaminated water that has been pooling in the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. The leaks have often forced workers to flee the plant, preventing them from restarting important cooling systems.“The amount of water is enormous, and we need any wisdom available,” said nuclear safety agency spokesman Hidehiko Nishiyama.A spokesman for plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Thursday that radioactive contamination in groundwater 15 yards (meters) under one of six reactors there had been measured at 10,000 times the government standard. It was the first time the utility has released statistics for groundwater near the plant. The government did not say what the standard is but the elevated levels would only be an issue if contamination got into the water supply, and spokesman Naoyuki Matsumo said the water supply has not been affected. Also, no one is living there because everyone within 12 miles (20 kilometers) of the plant has been evacuated.
Experts from French nuclear giant Areva, which supplied fuel to the plant, are helping figure out how to dispose of the contaminated water that has begun leaking into the ground and the sea.“We are not a supplier only for happy days,” CEO Anne Lauvergeon told reporters in Tokyo on Thursday. “We are effectively also there when things become difficult.” (Areva is the MOx maker.)Tens of thousands of people have been displaced by the tsunami and magnitude-9.0 earthquake. Some saw their homes destroyed by the wall of water, while others have been ordered to leave the evacuation zone. Authorities have recommended that people in a 20-mile (30-kilometer) band might want to evacuate too.Frustrated evacuees had begun trickling back into the smaller zone to gather belongings and check on their homes, but officials in Fukushima prefecture posted warnings at evacuation centers telling them not to go back for any reason.“There is not only a risk that you may be contaminated, but also that you could contaminate others in the evacuation centers when you return,” the warnings said. “The national government is now considering whether to allow brief return visits, so please bear with us.”On Friday, the government said it planned more tests on a cow slaughtered for beef that had very slightly elevated levels of cesium, another radioactive particle. Officials stressed that the meat was never put on the market. Contamination has already been found in vegetables and raw milk near the plant.Health Ministry spokesman Taku Ohara said the cesium was found in a cow slaughtered March 15 more than 40 miles (70 kilometers) from the plant. It had a total cesium level of 510 becquerels per kilogram. The limit is 500.Radioactive cesium can build up in the body and high levels are thought to be a risk for various cancers. Still, researchers who studied Chernobyl could not find an increase in cancers that might be linked to cesium.

It is still found in the soil of Germany, Austria and France 25 years after Chernobyl and is found in wild boar in Germany, making the pigs off-limits for eating in many cases. The limit Germany has set for cesium in wild boars is 600 becquerels per kilogram.

In Japan, the radiation has forced police officers trying to recover the dead from the evacuation zone to don white hazmat suits and radiation monitors. Officials believe more than 19,000 people died, but so far only about 11,000 bodies have been found. Local media estimate that hundreds of corpses remain.(French President)Sarkozy, the first major international leader to visit since the disaster, praised the work being done at the plant.“Every image I have seen is really, really disturbing, and I am really impressed by the workers in Fukushima who work at the nuclear plant with courage,” he said before meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan.After the meeting, he urged the world to learn from Japan’s crisis and suggested that the Group of 20 nations set international nuclear safety standards.“It’s completely abnormal that these international safety norms don’t exist,” Sarkozy said. The International Atomic Energy Agency does have standards, but nations are not bound by them.Any other industry with such a negative impact would be labelled criminal. The nuclear industry however labells victims and subject populations as “radiophobic” and gets away with it, as if the entire world were the USSR. Its not. And then there is this honest statement:
“Naturally, high radiation levels in soil, if continued over a long period of time…will likely affect human health, so we need to step up our (radiation) monitoring, and if need be take steps to deal with it,” Edano said.”Read the full story here.

    • Two UN staff beheaded and eight others murdered in protest against U.S. pastor who burnt Koran.Norwegian, Romanian, Swedish and Nepalese nationals among those killed Ten United Nations staff were murdered - two by beheading - after extremists stormed their compound in northern Afghanistan today.Protesters broke into UN offices in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif after a demonstration against Koran burnings in the U.S. turned violent.
A small breakaway group attacked the UN compound, throwing stones and climbing on blast barriers to try to gain entry. They seized weapons from guards and opened fire before storming the site. An Afghan police source, who asked not to be named, said the chief of the mission in the city was wounded but survived.

Among those murdered were Norwegian, Romanian, Swedish and Nepalese nationals. Two were decapitated, it is understood.General Daud Daud, commander of Afghan National Police in several northern provinces, said those killed included five Nepalese guards who were working for the UN and two other foreigners employed at the complex.
A UN spokesman confirmed that workers had been killed at the mission, but he said the situation on the ground was still confusing and it was difficult to 'ascertain facts'.Staffan De Mistura, the top UN representative in Afghanistan, was heading to Mazar-i-Sharif to handle the matter personally, he added.
Over a thousand demonstrators had flooded into the streets of the normally peaceful city after Friday prayers, where they heard reports about the Koran burnings in America last month.Mohammad Azim, a businessman in Mazer-i-Sharif, said that clerics with loudspeakers had driven around the city in two cars to invite residents to the protest.Thousands of demonstrators also marched through the western city of Herat. There, protesters burned a U.S. flag at a sports stadium and chanted 'Death to the US' and 'They broke the heart of Islam'.Around 200 also protested near the U.S. embassy in Kabul. Both protests remained relatively peaceful.Demonstrations against the Koran burning also took place in Pakistan today.Women representing the Working Women Welfare Trust marched through the streets of Karachi voicing their anger against Pastor Jones.Just last week, Afghan president Hamid Karzai had announced Mazar-i-Sharif would be one of the first parts of the war torn country Afghan security would take from Nato forces.Hmmmm....."The religion of Peace".I wonder why they are beheading Russian soldiers in the Caucasus as well. And will they compensate the family with Diyya(Bloodmoney)?Read the full story here. • Updated : UN officials told The Daily Telegraph the final toll could rise as high as 20.And there were unconfirmed reports that the head of the United Nations Military Assistance Mission (Unama) in Mazar-e-Sharif had also been seriously injured Local residents said about 2,000 demonstrators attacked UN guards stationed outside Unama compound, seized their weapons and began firing at police. Lal Mohammad Ahmadzai, a police spokesman, said the protesters beheaded two of the guards and shot others before scaling an anti-blast wall to topple a guard tower and set fire to buildings. Few details were available on how the attack took place, but local residents said crowds began gathering there after a cleric at the city's central mosque urged worshippers at Friday prayers to call on the UN take action against Wayne Sapp, an evangelical preacher who burned a Koran at a service at a small fringe church in Gainesville, Flordia, on March 20. There was confusion over the numbers of dead after Atta Mohammad Noor, the governor of Balkh province, said seven UN staff had been killed, including a woman. Later reports, however, placed the number at eight. Unama said it was aware of the incident, but did not disclose details on casualties, saying it was "working to ascertain all the facts." Local police spokesman Lal Mohammad Ahmadzai said "two of the killed UN staff were beheaded." General Abdul Rauf Taj, a senior official, had earlier said that two guards were "shot in the head."Security at Nato and UN buildings in Afghanistan had been upgraded in recent weeks amid fears of attacks in protest at revelations that a 'Kill Squad' of American soldiers had killed innocent civilians and taken photographs of the bodies as trophies. The US government has apologised for the atrocities, but its officials have been braced for retaliatory attacks since the photographs were published. Read and see the full story here.

    • Florida Pastor Responds to Slaughter of UN Workers in Afghanistan Over Koran Burning.Thousands of protesters angry over the burning of a Quran by a Florida pastor stormed a U.N. compound Friday in northern Afghanistan, killing at least 12 people, including eight foreigners, and that pastor has issued a response:

In regard to the riots that have just taken place in Afghanistan at the UN headquarters, the actions of breaking in, setting on fire, and killing of at least 10 individuals so far is highly unacceptable for the government of the United States.

We, at Stand Up America Now, find this a very tragic and criminal action. The United States government and the United Nations itself, must take immediate action. We must hold these countries and people accountable for what they have done as well as for any excuses they may use to promote their terrorist activities. The time has come to hold Islam accountable.

Our United States government and our President must take a close, realistic look at the radical element Islam. Islam is not a religion of peace. It is time that we call these people to accountability. We demand that our United States government stand up and speak out against these acts. These people must be called to justice.

We demand action from the United Nations. Muslim dominated countries can no longer be allowed to spread their hate against Christians and minorities. They must alter the laws that govern their countries to allow for individual freedoms and rights, such as the right to worship, free speech, and to move freely without fear of being attacked or killed.Dr. Terry Jones.President Barack Obama strongly condemned the attack and stressed the importance of work of the U.N. staff in Afghanistan.

"Their work is essential to building a stronger Afghanistan for the benefit of all its citizens. We stress the importance of calm and urge all parties to reject violence and resolve differences through dialogue," Obama said.Hmmm......No word about butchering people in the name of Islam, as usual "I will stand with my Muslim Brothers".Source.

    • Afghanistan - Jailed for being abused.Sima is 15, but looks even younger. I met her in Kabul, in the female juveniles section of the Badam Bagh prison, earlier this month. She talks very little, but her eyes are full of grief. A defense lawyer told me it is likely she had been raped. What is Sima’s crime? She is serving her sentence for running away from domestic violence. About half of all women in Afghan prisons are there for the same “crime.” Some of them are in prison with their babies. The youngest ones are no older than 12. Having spent time in jail, they will rarely be accepted back by their families and communities.Ten years since the Taliban fled Kabul and new laws, policies and development aid have brought some benefits to Afghan women, but deep-rooted challenges remain. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights recently issued a report on harmful traditional practices against women and girls in Afghanistan. About half of women marry before the age of 15. It is estimated that 70 to 80 percent of marriages are forced. Selling girls or giving them away in settlement of a conflict is common practice. The literacy rate of Afghan girls aged 15 or older is just 12 percent. Unsurprisingly, violence and abusive behavior against them is widespread. Afghanistan has ratified the convention on the elimination of discrimination against women, but their initial report is long overdue. A law on eliminating violence against women was adopted recently, but its enforcement is a real challenge: victims are reluctant to seek help from police officers, 99 percent of whom are male. So, what can they do when they face abuse? Desperate girls and women all too often commit suicide, an increasing number of them by self-immolation. Those who have the courage to run away and seek refuge within their family are often returned to their abusive husbands or parents. Those who try to find a safe haven at their neighbors’ or friends’ houses face criminal charges for the intent to commit “zina” (adultery, or sexual relations out of marriage). The punishment is not provided by law, nor, I was told by experts, is it consistent with shariah, which requires witnesses and proof. It is based merely on an instruction of the Supreme Court of Afghanistan. The only safe havens for victims are NGO-run shelters for women and girls, yet Afghan authorities have recently threatened to halt their continued operation. This week the U.N. Security Council adopted a resolution extending the mandate of the U.N. assistance mission in Afghanistan. It “strongly condemns” continuing discrimination against women and girls; calls for enhanced efforts to secure their rights; and supports women’s shelters. It also addresses the main problem: empowerment of Afghan women and ensuring that women’s rights are an integral part of peace, reintegration and reconciliation efforts. If girls are not educated and women not included in political life and public administration and justice system, traditional harmful practices will continue and their human rights will never be protected. Only if they are present and active in peace talks can they rest assured that even the modest gains secured to date will not be used as bargaining chips.Hmmmm.......Welcome to 'Escape from A.D. 620'.Read the full story here.

    • Libya: Allied strikes crime against humanity.Libyan spokesman lashes out at West, says "mad, criminal prime ministers and presidents of Europe leading crusade against Arab Muslim nation; meanwhile, rebels says Gaddafi forces shelling city, 'destroying everything'.Libya described coalition air strikes against it on Friday as a "crime against humanity," saying at least six civilians were killed in an attack on a village in the east of the country. "Some mad and criminal prime ministers and presidents of Europe are leading a crusade against an Arab Muslim nation," a government spokesman, Mussa Ibrahim, told reporters. "Sounds familiar? ... It's a crime against humanity."One resident said an attempt by government forces to take control of the city centre had been fought off by rebels but that afterwards pro-Gaddafi forces started indiscriminate shelling of Misrata's port and the city centre. "They used tanks, rocket-propelled grenades, mortar rounds and other projectiles to hit the city today. It was a random and very intense bombardment," a rebel spokesman called Sami told Reuters by telephone. "We no longer recognize the place. The destruction cannot be described." "The pro-Gaddafi soldiers who made it inside the city through Tripoli Street are pillaging the place, the shops, even homes, and destroying everything in the process."They are targeting everyone, including civilians' homes. I don't know what to say, may Allah help us," he said. Also Friday, The Libyan government rejected ceasefire conditions set out by rebel leaders saying government troops would not leave Libyan cities as demanded by the opposition. "They are asking us to withdraw from our own cities. .... If this is not mad then I don't know what this is. We will not leave out cities," said Mussa Ibrahim, the government spokesman.Hmmmm.......The Obamamination grows?Read the full story here.

    • Israeli PM Netanyahu Asks UN Chief To Stop “Islamist Infiltrated” Gaza Flotilla, Says They Will Use Force If Necessary.Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu Friday asked visiting U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to help stop a planned international aid flotilla to Gaza. The prime minister charged the “Freedom Fleet 2,” which plans to sail to Gaza in May, will be infiltrated by radical Islamists bent on violence, The Jerusalem Post reported.“Because of the attempt to smuggle weapons into Gaza by sea, Israel must act with force against the flotilla,” Netanyahu said. The pro-Palestinian Free Gaza movement says the flotilla will include 15 ships from various countries and thousands of participants. At a meeting in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the activists called on the governments of participating nationals to protect them.Source.

    • UN to Israel: Surrender!by Israel Today.UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday reiterated that the world body expects Israel to immediately surrender to internationally-backed Arab demands that it relinquish all claims to the Jews’ biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria and half of their ancient capital of Jerusalem. The Jewish presence in the so-called “West Bank,” which includes the eastern half of Jerusalem, is “morally and politically unsustainable, and must end,” Ban insisted during a press conference in Uruguay.Meanwhile, the Palestinians are moving forward plans to unilaterally declare an independent state with the support of the UN, outside the framework of a land-for-peace deal with Israel.Palestinian leaders indicated that they will make such a move later this year. The motion is almost certain to be shot down in the UN Security Council, where the US exercises veto power, but will be widely adopted by the UN General Assembly, which most will see as more than adequate for “Palestine” to be declared a state.Israeli officials are busy lobbying various nations against supporting this move. But diplomats fear their efforts are bearing little fruit, since Israel is not presenting any kind of alternative plan or process. Many within Israel are urging Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop playing the diplomatic game by the Arab world’s rules, and to instead begin insisting that the UN approach the peace process from the viewpoint that the West Bank and Jerusalem are disputed territories, where Jews have just as much, if not more, claim than local Palestinian Arabs. But it is likely too late for that. And if it comes down to the UN General Assembly recognizing “Palestine,” Israel may be forced into desperate action. An unnamed Israeli official told the Associated Press on Tuesday that if the Palestinians seek recognition of their sovereignty in the UN, Israel may annex the parts of the West Bank most populated by Jews - the much-maligned “settlement blocs.”Israel already annexed the eastern half of Jerusalem decades ago, but that decision is all but ignored by the international community.Hmmmm.....Was there ever a 'Palestinian' people mentioned in the Bible or the Torah?Read the full story here.

    • Somali terrorists lure Toronto women. Two Somali-Canadian women who vanished from Toronto in early January travelled to Somalia and are believed to have joined Al Shabaab, say community members who fear the increasing appeal of this outlawed terrorist group among youth.
“No one knows what happened . . . how they were brainwashed,” said Mohamed Gilao of Dejinta Beesha, a Rexdale-based organization that helps Somali-Canadians. “It’s very, very worrying.”It is the first known case of women being recruited by Al Shabaab in North America, sending shock waves through Toronto’s Somali community. Their disappearance is particularly troubling for those still reeling from news of the Tuesday night arrest of Mohamed Hersi, 25, at Pearson airport before boarding a flight for Cairo. Police allege he planned to make his way to Somalia to join Shabaab. The Scarborough man, facing terror-related charges, is scheduled to appear in a Brampton court Friday to set a bail hearing. It has long been believed that Shabaab was targeting only young men to take up arms with the Islamist youth militia. In the United States, two Somali-born American women were indicted in 2010 for their alleged role in a fundraising scheme for the group. While fundraising efforts were focused in the U.S., they also allegedly solicited funds in Canada. The Toronto women, believed to be good friends, are between the ages of 18 and 20. They disappeared from their west-end homes one morning in January, leaving behind unsuspecting families. The two later emailed saying they were in Somalia, recalled a community member who knows both families and did not want his name disclosed. “They told their parents they were fine and not to look for them. Their parents are devastated. . . . They don’t know what to do.” He said the two families had no indication their daughters were being radicalized. “They never saw it coming. Now they are very worried for the other kids, too.” The women have since emailed their families a few times, but have never called, said another member of the Somali community. Both women lived with their families and are believed to have been born in Canada. One was a student at the University of Toronto; it’s not clear where the other studied. An uncle of one missing woman confirmed she was missing but did not want to talk about it. Omar Jamal, who works with the UN’s Somali mission in New York and is well-known among the Somali diaspora in the U.S. and Canada, said women are more susceptible to indoctrination than men. “We are slowly starting to realize that,” a shocked Jamal said in an interview. “I think the Shabaab is now targeting girls because they are believed to be more dedicated.”But the Canadian Security Intelligence Service would not comment on their disappearance or how many others they suspect have joined the ranks of the Shabaab. “We are actively engaged in investigating security threats to Canada and Canadian interests, including the threat posed by radicalization and terrorism,” said agency spokesperson Tahera Mufti. “However, we will not publicly discuss specific operational activities or interests.”The women are among the latest in a growing number of local youth suspected to have been recruited by the Al Qaeda-inspired movement.Others from Toronto include a group of six young men who vanished in late 2009. Of the so-called Somali Six, Mohammed Elmi Ibrahim of Scarborough, died in battle about a year ago.Ahmed Hussen, president of the Canadian Somali Congress, also says another man, who is about 20, fought with Shabaab between the ages of 16 to 18 but has since returned and is living in the Dixon Rd. neighbourhood known as Little Mogadishu.Hmmmm......Sounds like Canada is having a serious homegrown Jihad movement,"The ennemy within"?Read the full story here.

    • Militant Muslim warns Royal wedding terror attack is ‘highly likely’.Firebrand cleric Anjem Choudary has warned that a terror attack is 'highly likely' at the Royal wedding. The hate preacher has told all Muslims to stay away from Westminster Abbey on April 29, describing it as 'a prime target'.Choudary has also been preaching to followers of the hate group, Muslims Against Crusades, and is backing its plan for a 'forceful demonstration' at the wedding.Choudary said: 'All Muslims should stay away from the public gatherings like the Royal wedding and the Olympics because there is a very high likelihood of an attack. 'Prime targets most probably would be public gatherings like that, so I think Muslims in general should stay away to avoid injury.'Maybe when the priest says "is there anyone who objects to this wedding speak now or forever hold your tongue" - who knows what will happen at that time? 'If my brothers decide to use the opportunity when the world is looking at the Royal Family to pass a message so that we can avoid more deaths of innocent men, women and children in Afghanistan, that should be applauded.'Prince William has been on military duty in Afghanistan, as well as his brother. 'I believe that the Queen and her children are supportive of the war in Afghanistan, which translates to us as a war against Muslims.'He became leader of Islam4UK but it was banned last year under the Terrorism Act 2000.Now a new group has emerged in its place and Choudary admits he is involved.Muslims Against Crusades is attracting the same fanatics who caused uproar with their planned protest at Wootten Bassett. They sparked outrage when they demonstrated on Armistice Day, burning poppies during the two-minute silence. The group has set up a website with a clock counting down to the Royal wedding, calling the Royal Family 'enemies to Allah and his messenger'.Choudhary says the disruption to the Royal wedding could include hardliners from the group setting fire to Union Jack flags. He said: 'It's not illegal in this country to burn a Union Jack. There may be placards and people addressing the crowd.'A lot of them are former students of mine. Also they were previously with al-Muhajiroun so I do know them. I'm not their spokesman but they invite me from time to time.A spokesman for Scotland Yard said, in reference to burning the Union flag, that any words or behaviour likely to cause 'harrassment, alarm or distress' to a reasonable person could be dealt with under public order legislation - as with the poppy burning incident. He added: 'When planning for major events the threat or terrorism is always a consideration. The Royal wedding is no exception to this.'Hmmmm....First we burn flags, then poppies next the Royals? It seems Brittain has forgotten the Oliver Cromwell days?Read the full story here.

    • HT:Memri.Saudi Sheikh: One Who Kills Himself and Others in Order to Win the Virgins of Paradise Is Not a Martyr but a Suicide; Only the Truly Virtuous Will Gain Paradise. When the Heart of a Young Man Fills with Yearning for the Virgins, It Is Easy for Him to Don an Explosive Belt

"Sometimes, young people [see] the scarf or the pretty legs of a young woman and go [completely] mad. They think only of her and believe they cannot live without her... And if they find no other way to meet [a young woman], they hasten their own death, because clamorous preachers and imams have convinced them that martyrdom is the bride-price [they must pay for the Virgins of Paradise], and that death is the only option... [Why] wait when the only thing separating you from the pleasure [of the Virgins] is death? Moreover, [these preachers tell them:] if you are martyred, the pain of death will be no more than a pinprick, and then you will immediately find yourselves in the arms [of the Virgins]."When the heart [of the young man] fills with yearning, and the desperate reality of his life overwhelms him, it is very easy for him to put an explosive belt around his waist, and even to shove the dynamite up his ass, as long as the goal is a lofty one, the prize is a Virgin [of Paradise], and the price is so low. The poor wretch does not realize that the price he is offering for his [heavenly] bride – namely his life, which he is ending by exploding a bomb and killing himself and others around him – will not necessarily be accepted, because those who marry the Virgins of Paradise must meet certain conditions. The first of these is that [the candidate] did not end his life in order to escape from a state of fatal despair... According to Islam, that is suicide.

"Lest anyone get on a high horse and accuse me of ignoring what is said in the Koran and the Sunna regarding the 'fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, like hidden pearls' [Koran 56:22-23], I hereby declare that I am well aware [of this verse], and that I yearn for [these virgins] myself and hope to attain them at all times. But I wish to point out that one who is crazy [with lust for them] has failed to read [some of the other Koranic] verses, for example... 'But [only] the sincere servants of Allah [will attain Paradise. Koran 37:40]'... [One who ignores these verses] does not know the qualities of [these sincere servants of Allah] and does not behave like them."Some of the Worst Human Devils are Those Who Pretend to Preach Religion, but in Effect are Only Turning Our Youth into Cannon-Fodder".

"One of the basic facts that [such a person] ignores is the true [purpose] of his existence: He was created to worship [Allah], to [establish] the Caliphate, and to spread the message [of Islam]... not in order to become a victim of a moment of despair, or in order to spill his blood for the sake of inventors of theories. [These theorists] pursue earthly goals they [can] attain only by spilling his blood and the blood of others like him whom they deceive, causing them to marry the darkness of death, imprisonment, and disobedience to their parents, or to [live their lives] in constant flight, hiding in caves and on mountaintops.

"Some of the worst human devils are those who pretend to engage in da'wa and jihad and to promote religion, and [thereby] control the minds of our youth – [but] not in order to provide them with knowledge, fill them with passion for our noble [Muslim] nation and its da'wa, or make them vehicles of culture and progress who can rival [our enemies] in technology and innovation. [Instead, their goal is] to send them to the front line of the war, to become cannon fodder..."

"The admittance test for entering Paradise is not one's [willingness] to don [an explosive belt] and press the button. The greatest test is [described] in religious texts that are eternal, irrevocable, and uncontroversial... One example will suffice... [According to a hadith], a man once approached the Prophet and told him he had come from afar to join the jihad. The Prophet asked him: 'Is your mother alive'? The man answered: 'Yes'. The Prophet said: 'Stay with her, for Paradise is under her feet.' Many of those [young people] leave their parents to weep and worry about their [fate]. If they [really] want to find Paradise, it is there [beside their parents]."Source.

    • Medvedev’s Plan to Oust Putin Allies Tests Limits of Power.Russian President Dmitry Medvedev may be risking a power struggle with Vladimir Putin after an aide announced plans to oust Putin allies from some of the biggest state-owned companies a year before elections.

Medvedev this week will prepare orders to dismiss several government officials from state enterprises, including Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin as chairman of OAO Rosneft, the largest Russian oil company, Arkady Dvorkovich, his chief economic aide, said yesterday. Sechin has worked with Prime Minister Putin in several capacities since the two were colleagues at the St. Petersburg mayor’s office in the first half of the 1990s. Putin, 58, a former KGB colonel, kept power as prime minister after selecting Medvedev, 45, in 2008 to succeed him as president because of a constitutional ban on three consecutive terms. With 12 months left before the next presidential vote, it’s still uncertain which of the two men will run and Medvedev’s move may cause the biggest rift between them yet. “This risks triggering a war between the elites,” said Alexei Mukhin, director of the Moscow-based Center for Political Information, a research group. “It will mean a real conflict with Putin.”“The subject of replacing officials with independent directors has long been on the agenda,” he said by phone yesterday. “It is another matter, in the context of carrying out the instructions of the head of state, how we’ll monitor the implementation of state directives in those companies where the government is the majority shareholder.” Medvedev first advocated the idea during his presidential election campaign in February 2008. The president’s move now to confront Putin allies who remain dominant in the government shows that he has decided to assert himself, said Dmitry Oreshkin, an independent political analyst in Moscow. “This is a major development which marks the first independent move by Medvedev touching the interests of influential members of Putin’s team,” he said. Medvedev and Putin showed public discord last week over the U.N.-sanctioned military intervention in Libya. The president, who has spearheaded Russia’s efforts to improve ties with the U.S. and Europe, rebuked the prime minister for likening the allied campaign to a “crusade.” Medvedev wants to win a second term in 2012, Dvorkovich said last year. Putin also hasn’t ruled out running for the top position again. If the decision to remove Putin’s allies from state companies is implemented, it would show that Medvedev intends to carry out his free-market policies and is an independent politician, said Masha Lipman, an analyst at the Carnegie Moscow Center. “This can be interpreted as an attempt to show his authority,” she said. “This would be a very important step weakening people who are very strong players, who are powerful by virtue of being close to Putin.” Medvedev, who in his first year in office pushed through a constitutional change extending the presidential term to six years from four, and his team would be able to challenge the political and economic interests of Putin’s associates, said Oreshkin. “He could show a completely different side,” he said. “The closer the elections come, the more aggressively he is acting.” Hmmmm......The 'Russian Medvedev'(Bear) awaking from hibernation?Read the full story here.

    • Our claim to the land.We need clear understanding of why Land of Israel belongs to the Jewish people, Yoel Meltzer writes. What is more, this lack of clarity affects both sides of the political spectrum, leaving us with the bluff known as the Left-Right political divide. In other words, for years the Left has been saying to the Arabs “take Judea and Samaria and create a Palestinian state” whereas the Right, lacking any alternative approach, first flexes its muscles and drags its feet and only afterwards says to the Arabs “take Judea and Samaria and create a Palestinian state.” Thus, nothing changes and we're constantly "stuck" since for the most part there is only a quantitative difference, rather than a qualitative one, between the Left and the Right.

Hence, in order to stand strong in the face of all the demands and threats, and to begin actively changing the situation in a positive direction, we need to focus our energy on trying to elucidate this very fundamental issue. Moreover, it is our own lack of clarity on this issue and not what the Arabs or the rest of the world maintain that is the real source of the problem. Having said all that, the truth is there is only one thing that is capable of providing us with the level of certainty that is needed to keep from buckling under to the escalating local and international pressure. Simply stated, it is the unwavering belief that the Land of Israel was given to the Jewish people by God. This basic tenet of Judaism has the ability to instill within us the deep sense of conviction that is needed to fully believe in the justness of our cause and to stand strong against those who challenge our right to exist as a sovereign nation in the Land of Israel. Moreover it is this, and not the Holocaust or a UN vote, which is our real claim to the Land of Israel. The question is, do we as individuals and as a nation actually believe in this most basic principle of Judaism? This is a question that we no longer have the luxury to ignore, as our continued existence in this land is contingent upon it being addressed.Read the full story here.

    • HT:Memri.Thousands Of Islamists Due To Return To Egypt From Abroad.A lawyer who works with various Islamist groups has predicted that 3,000 leading figures of the Jama'a al-Islamyia and Egyptian Islamic Jihad groups will return to Egypt in a few days, as their names have been dropped from the "wanted" list maintained by Egyptian security forces."They are coming back from Afghanistan, Chechnya, Bosnia, Somalia, Kenya, Iran and London," said Ibrahim Ali.He said that Jama'a al-Islamyia had requested the authorities to drop death sentences that had been issued in absentia by military courts against some of its members so that they could return to Egypt.Among those waiting to come back are Osama Rushdi, who lives in London, Hussein Shemeis, who was convicted of the 1995 assassination attempt on then-Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak in Addis Ababa, and Muhammad Shawki al-Islambouli, brother of Khaled al-Islambouli, who assassinated president Anwar Sadat.Hmmmm......Thank you Barack HUSSEIN Obama?Read the full story here.

Three types of plutonium have turned up amid the radioactive contamination on the grounds of the earthquake-damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, its owner reported Monday. The plutonium is a byproduct of nuclear reactions that is also part of the fuel mix at the damaged No. 3 reactor. It was found in soil at five different points inside the plant grounds, the Tokyo Electric Power Company said late Monday. Plutonium can be a serious health hazard if inhaled or ingested, but external exposure poses little health risk, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.Source.

    • No invite for the Obamas as the Queen personally asks 40 other heads of state to attend Prince William's wedding to Kate.President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle have not been invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal wedding. The Queen personally invited 40 heads of state, who received the gold-embossed invitations over the weekend to the April 29 wedding of the future king. The Obamas, however, were not among them. But they can take solace in the knowledge that they will be the guests of their very own state visit to the UK in May.But Britain's Foreign Office said royal officials had sent their regrets to Estibalis Chavez, a 19-year-old fan who has protested outside the country's embassy in Mexico City demanding an invite.Other guests include the King of Jordan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, the Sultan of Oman, the King of Bahrain, the Sultan of Brunei and the King of Saudi Arabia, the Emperor of Japan, the King of Malaysia, the King of Tonga and the King of Thailand.Around 1,900 guests will attend the Westminster Abbey ceremony, which will be beamed around the world, and the bride and groom have been allowed to invite more than, 1,000 of their friends. The Queen, who made a state visit to Oman and Abu Dhabi last year, believes the wedding invitations will be good for diplomatic relations between Britain and the Middle East.Hmmmm.......My guess she diddent like the fact he send Sir Winston Churchill back.Seems you can't buy or fake manners after all?Read the full story here.

    • HT:IsraelToday.IDF: We need to hit Gaza harder.Senior Israeli army officers on Sunday worried that the current response to escalating missile attacks from Gaza is tipping the balance in favor of Hamas and its terrorist allies.Speaking to Israel’s Ynet news portal, the officers noted that following previous escalations, Israel had responded with overwhelming force, creating a deterrence against further attacks for a period of time.Following Israel’s invasion of Gaza in late 2008 and early 2009 “a very clear equation was created whereby the IDF responds disproportionately to any violation of the state of calm,” said one officer. “Ever so often there were attempts to test us but a harsh response together with deterrence achieved by the operation had sent the message until the next time.”But Israel’s military response to the Gaza rocket and mortar barrage that began last week and saw medium-range missiles hit cities near Tel Aviv has been significantly more tempered. On top of that, the government has sought to alleviate public fears by deploying the still-experimental Iron Dome anti-missile system, which even Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned cannot and will not stop all Palestinian missiles from hitting Israeli cities. In short, instead of responding to force with even greater force, Israel this time around has responded to force by putting up a shield. The officers who spoke out believe this is a mistake, as the terrorists are constantly testing Israel’s resolve, and if they believe Israel is becoming weak, their next attack will be even bigger.Speaking in Beersheva on Sunday, Knesset Member Shaul Mofaz, current chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said Israel should return to its policy of assassinating leading terrorists in the Gaza Strip.“Israel can not hide behind the Iron Domedefense system while in Gaza life goes on,” said Mofaz. “We must maintain our ability to attack and preserve the IDF’s role as a deterrent. Without a deterrent, the Palestinian organizations are the ones that will dictate the agenda.”Hmmmm......It's not the missiles who are  Israel's real enemy.Read the full story here.

    • Most Pro-Israel government in the world falls :Canada’s PM Harper loses no-confidence vote.Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, as I’ve written before, is the most pro-Israel leader on the planet. So today’s events are troubling. “Canada’s minority Conservative government was defeated in a non-confidence vote on Friday, setting the scene for a federal election in early May,” reports Reuters. “Legislators in the House of Commons voted by 156-145 to back the motion, which was presented by the main opposition Liberal Party.” That said, it may be too early to count Harper out. The New York Times is reporting that today’s no-confidence vote may end up “triggering an election that polls show the Conservatives will win.” Harper could put together a new coalition government and reemerge as Prime Minister. Let’s be praying for our friends up north.Hmmmmm.....I hope the Canadian people give Harper the Majority it deserves and that Canada remains a beacon of freedom in this Anti - Semitic world! If anything Harper was a symbol of pride for Canada ,Harper is Canada's Vimy ridge in politics.Read the full story here.

    • HT:IsraelMatzav.Obama continues to press Netanyahu.Jackson Diehl reports that Prime Minister Netanyahu's biggest problem continues to be Barack Obama. The president made his mind-set clear from the beginning of his administration, when he chose to begin his diplomacy by demanding a complete freeze on Israeli settlement activity — a condition Abbas had never set but which he quickly adopted as his own. In a meeting with American Jewish leaders at the White House this month, Obama indicated that he hadn’t changed his mind. Abbas, he insisted, was ready to establish a Palestinian state. The problem was that Israel had not made a serious territorial offer.Netanyahu feels compelled to counter the Palestinian offensive at the United Nations, which his defense minister, Ehud Barak, says could turn into “an anti-Israeli diplomatic tsunami.” For that he will need the support of Obama. So Netanyahu has committed himself to deliver what could be the most-anticipated speech in Israel’s history — an address to the U.S. Congress in May in which he is to lay out a new “vision” for peace. To satisfy Abbas and Obama, Netanyahu will have to promise a significant concession. In the words of the Israeli commentator Akiva Eldar, “he will have to utter, with his own mouth, the magic words” — that a Palestinian state will be based on Israel returning to its 1967 borders. But if he does that, Netanyahu will infuriate most of his cabinet and probably cause the collapse of his coalition. His supporters believe he will also give up Israel’s best negotiating chip — territory — before the real bargaining even begins.Netanyahu felt comfortable enough with the Gaza mini-war and the state of security in Jerusalem last week to carry on with a planned trip to Russia. The coming showdown with Obama will require his full attention.Who cares about the coalition collapsing? If it collapsed over that kind of speech by Netanyahu, we would end up with an even more Right-wing coalition because Likud would lose votes to parties to its right. The bigger issue is that it's a stupid concession to make to buy off an anti-Semitic President (yes, I believe he's an anti-Semite - he would not have sat in Jeremiah Wright's church for 20 years or hung around with Louis Farrakhan if he wasn't one) who will hopefully be voted out of office in 2012.Hmmmmm.....His hatred for Israelis greater than the desire of peace in the Middle East ,he won't challenge Iran because he knows they're Israels deadliest ennemy! What he really wants is NATO(Turkish?)troops on the ground to enforce 'new' borders ,who in reality are nothing more then a giant ghetto!Read the full story here.

    • Syria's Assad deploys army; Clinton: US won't intervene.Likud’s Kara warns Israel won’t sit quietly if Syria attacks Druse; Syrian president announces emergency law will be lifted, give no timetable.Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, facing the gravest crisis of his 11-year rule, deployed the army for the first time in nearly two weeks of protests after 12 people were killed in the northwest port city of Latakia.Dozens have died in pro-democracy protests in the southern city of Deraa and nearby towns over the last week in violence the government had blamed on armed groups.Assad adviser Bouthaina Shaaban told Al-Jazeera that Syria’s four-decade old emergency law would be lifted, but she did not give a timetable or offer any more details. Officials said Assad – who has made no direct public comment since protests began – would address the nation Sunday night. An Israeli Foreign Ministry official expressed concern Syria has enlisted help from Iran and Hezbollah in cracking down on the protests, Army Radio reported Sunday.According to the official, Syrian protesters said they had heard some of the security forces employed in dispersing the protests speaking Farsi. The official reportedly said he expects to see further signs of Iranian involvement over the coming days.“Syria is an Iranian asset, and it is clear Iran is afraid its investments will go down the drain. It has therefore allowed for greater involvement than in other Arab countries,” he said.Deputy Galilee and Negev Development Minister Ayoub Kara said Sunday that should Assad attack the Druse population in Syria, Israel would not sit with its “hands folded.”Kara, a Likud lawmaker who is Druse, said in a statement he is concerned Assad could “attack the Druse in Aleppo as was done in the past. He needs to know that in that case we will not sit with our hands folded.”The agency also reported that Bahrain’s king had phoned Assad to express the support of his country – itself in the throes of months of sectarian unrest – for Syria’s efforts “in the face of the conspiracy targeting its security and stability.”In another step to placate protesters, Syrian authorities released a lawyer, Diana Jawabra, along with 15 others who were arrested for taking part in a silent protest demanding the release of the children responsible for anti-government graffiti in Deraa. The move came a day after the announcement of the release of 260 political prisoners, most of them Islamists.Soldiers took to the streets of Latakia on Saturday night to help secret police and security forces control the port, residents said. The army also bolstered checkpoints around Deraa, where Human Rights Watch says 61 people have died.“There is a feeling in Latakia that the presence of disciplined troops is necessary to keep order,” one resident said. “We do not want looting.”Syria’s establishment is dominated by members of the minority Alawite sect, an offshoot of Shi’ite Islam to which the Assads belong, a fact that causes resentment among Sunni Muslims who make up some three-quarters of the population. Latakia is mostly Sunni Muslim but has significant numbers of Alawites.Read the full story here.

    • Column One: Understanding the 3rd terror war. What the Palestinian silence on who committed what atrocity tells us is that in this new terror war, Palestinians believe they can't lose. What are we to make of the fact that no one has taken credit for Wednesday’s bombing in Jerusalem? Wednesday’s bombing was not a stand-alone event. It was part and parcel of the new Palestinian terror war that is just coming into view. As Israel considers how to contend with the emerging onslaught, it is important to notice how it differs from its predecessors. On a military level, the tactics the Palestinians have so far adopted are an interesting blend of state-of-the-art missile attacks with old-fashioned knife and bomb-in-the-briefcase attacks. The diverse tactics demonstrate that this war is a combination of Iranian-proxy war and local terror pick-up cells. The attacks are also notable for their geographic dispersion and for the absence thus far of suicide attacks. For the public, the new tactics are not interesting and the message they send is nothing new. With or without suicide bombers, Israelis understand that we are entering a new period of unremitting fear, where we understand that we are in danger no matter where we are. Whether we’re in bed asleep, or our way to work or school, or sitting down on a park bench or at a restaurant, whether we’re in Rishon Lezion, Sderot, Jerusalem, Itamar or Beersheba, we are in the Palestinians’ crosshairs. All of us are “settlers.” All of us are in danger. The military innovations are important for IDF commanders who need to figure out how to answer the public’s demand for security. They will have to draw operational conclusions about the challenges this mix of tactics and strategic architecture poses. The fact that today neither Hamas nor Fatah is interested in taking credit for Wednesday’s bombing in Jerusalem or for the massacre of the Fogel family is a signal that something fundamental is changing in the political dynamic between the two factions. Before considering what the change may be, a word of explanation about Islamic Jihad is in order.Islamic Jihad was founded by Iran in 1988. Unlike Hamas and Fatah, Islamic Jihad has no political aspirations. It has no political operatives, and it is content to limit its operations to terrorism. After the much larger and more powerful Hamas subordinated its command and control to Iran in 2005, Islamic Jihad has served as nothing more than a Hamas sub-contractor. It carries out and takes credit for attacks when Hamas doesn’t wish to do so.There are two plausible internal Palestinian explanations for Fatah’s and Hamas’s newfound reticence, and they are not mutually exclusive.
The first explanation of their silence is that the recent talk about Fatah and Hamas forming a unity government is serious. Fatah’s announcement Thursday that it had arrested two Islamic Jihad terrorists in connection with the Jerusalem bombing is notable in this vein. It signals that after four years of fighting Hamas forces in Judea and Samaria, Fatah is looking for a more politically convenient group of usual suspects.

The second reason Hamas and Fatah may be keeping mum about who is responsible is that they both know who did it and they are using the terror to gain leverage against one another at the negotiating table. If Hamas is carrying out the attacks, its leaders may simply be using them to strengthen their bargaining position in the unity talks. Fatah knows that if Hamas takes credit for the attacks, its mass popularity in Judea and Samaria will grow. And if Fatah is carrying them out, its leaders may be using them to show Hamas that they are serious about burying the hatchet with the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood.Fatah is in the midst of a global campaign to build international support for a unilateral Palestinian declaration of independence in September. From Israel’s perspective, the campaign is threatening for two reasons. First, a unilaterally declared Palestinian state will be in a de facto state of war with Israel. Second, if the Palestinians secure international recognition for their “state” in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and Gaza, the move will place 500,000 Jews who live in these areas in the international crosshairs.

Much of the discussion about this goal has centered on whether or not US President Barack Obama will veto a UN Security Council resolution endorsing such a declaration. And based on Obama’s behavior to date, the Palestinians have good reason to believe that he may support their move. But in truth, the discussion about how the US will respond to the planned Palestinian declaration is largely beside the point. The point of the threatened declaration is not to get a UN Security Council resolution supporting it. The point is to get the EU to enact further sanctions against Israel. The fact that Fatah and Hamas have neither waited until after September to attack nor sought to differentiate themselves from one another as the attacks coalesce into a new terror campaign indicates strongly that the Palestinians no longer feel they need to pretend to oppose terror to maintain European support for their war against Israel. The Palestinians assess that Europe is swiftly moving toward the point where it no longer needs to pretend to be fair to Israel. The British, French and German votes in favor of the Palestinians’ anti-Israel Security Council resolution last month were the latest sign that the key European governments have adopted openly hostile policies toward Israel.

More importantly, these policies are not the consequence of Palestinian lobbying efforts, and so Israel cannot hope to change them through counter-lobbying efforts. Europe’s abandonment of even the guise of fairness toward Israel is the product of domestic political realities in Europe itself. Between the rapidly expanding political power of Europe’s Muslim communities and the virulently anti-Israel positions nearly universally adopted by the European media, European governments are compelled to adopt ever more hostile positions toward Israel to appease their Israel-hating publics and Muslim communities.Hmmmm......."Change"?They don't trust me because of my middle name?Since the days of Hitler the threat to Israel has never been bigger ,than by Obama's regime their policies.Read the full story here.

    • Iranian Government Releases Video Saying The Return Of The Mahdi Is Near, Islamic Regime Will Help Usher In The End Times.New evidence has emerged that the Iranian government sees the current unrest in the Middle East as a signal that the Mahdi — or Islamic messiah — is about to appear.CBN News has obtained a never-before-seen video produced by the Iranian regime that says all the signs are moving into place — and that Iran will soon help usher in the end times. While the revolutionary movements gripping the Middle East have created uncertainty throughout the region, the video shows that the Iranian regime believes the chaos is divine proof that their ultimate victory is at hand. The propaganda footage has reportedly been approved at the highest levels of the Iranian government. It’s called The Coming is Near and it describes current events in the Middle East as a prelude to the arrival of the mythical tweflth Imam or Mahdi — the messiah figure who Islamic scriptures say will lead the armies of Islam to victory over all non-Muslims in the last days.“This video has been produced by a group called the Conductors of the Coming, in connection with the Basiji — the Iranian paramilitary force, and in collaboration with the Iranian president’s office,” said Reza Kahlil, a former member of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards who shared the video with CBN News.Hmmmm.....What did i say last week when Ahmadinejad was talking about his successor?...That he was talking about 'the hidden imam',seems like another bullseye to me!Read the full story here.

"He remembers when Obama was born, give me a break. Trump asked. "I wish he would, because I think it's a terrible pale that's hanging over him."Trump's repeated statements about Obama's birth certificate are in line with claims by so-called "birthers" movement that Obama is not an American citizen.Abercrombie, a former Democratic congressman, has been a staunch opponent of this claim. • Somali pirate offers to release Danish family in exchange for hand of daughter, 13.Life can be lonely on the high seas and one pirate has decided enough is enough, it's about time he got himself a wife. But the Somali pirate chief has taken a fancy to his 13-year-old Danish hostage - and he is so besotted with her he's willing to let the rest of her family go free, and even forget the $5million dollar ransom his pirate colleagues demanded.According to The Times, the pirate made the bizarre proposal during a conversation with a Danish reporter, who visited the African nation to track down the Johansen family who were taken hostage in the Indian Ocean more than a month ago.The reporter, from the tabloid Ekstra Bladet, was not allowed to speak to the family, but he spoke to the chief pirate who apparently revealed his plans for a bride. The terrifying proposal puts more pressure on the authorities and hostage negotiators to free the family. If the Danes give me permission to marry the girl, I will free the rest without any condition,' Kristian Kornoe quoted the pirate chief as saying. The reporter, who assumed the offer was never going to be accepted, said: 'The father, Jan, seemed completely exhausted, even ill. • HT:BigPeace. Is France on the Brink Of A Violent Civil War?The French Presidential elections are about one year away, but there is plenty of news that has the European political establishment quaking. President Sarkozy is running for reelection and he faces opposition from Socialist Party leader Martine Aubry. But leading in the polls is Marine Le Pen of the National Front, daughter of Jean-Marie Le Pen. Her message is direct and simple: multiculturalism has failed France. And continued efforts down that path will lead to a replay of the Balkans and Lebanon, only this time with a French accent. She wants to halt immigration and end citizenship by birthplace which has made hundreds of thousands unassimilated immigrants French citizens. Curiously, she is reaching out to younger voters and women and the response has reportedly been positive.Surveys reveal that 40% of the French population regard Islam as the enemy within. And with good reason. As we’ve reported here regularly, there are acts of religious-based violence by Muslims directed at non-Muslims. There are Islamic extremists preaching violent revolution. And in large sections of many major cities, the police don’t dare to go for fear of attack by immigrant thugs. So certain metropolitan areas are literally ungovernable. If Le Pen wins, it will set up a showdown that will possibly tear the country apart. I don’t think Islamic extremists will give up their power in France without a fight. But even if she doesn’t win, the issues she raises cannot be ignored by Sarkozy. The threat to France’s survival does not come from external enemies or a bad economy. It comes from the simple fact that large pockets of the country are now under foreign occupation. I say foreign because large segments of the French population refuse to assimilate. Indeed, they are hostile to French ideals.Le Pen’s ideas about immigration and citizenship make sense. • HT:BarryRubin.Muslim Brotherhood Proves It Is Radical and Aggressive–According to its Own Test.In his New York Times op-ed back in February, Muslim Brotherhood agent--disguised as sophisticated academic--Tariq Ramadan wrote:

“By deciding to line up behind Mohamed ElBaradei, who has emerged as the chief figure among the anti-Mubarak protesters, the Muslim Brotherhood’s leadership has signaled that now is not the time to expose itself by making political demands that might frighten the West, not to mention the Egyptian people. Confidence and aggression is the watchword. In other words, the Brotherhood can toss away one of the main "proofs" of its moderation and lack of aggressiveness and the Western elite--including those in whose newspaper these words appeared--don't even notice!Hmmmm.....Meanwhile they know they can count on 1,57 Billion Dollars from Hussein Obama.Read the full story here.
