New Canadian movie sheds light on horror of Stalinist Holodomor famine.

New Canadian movie sheds light on horror of Stalinist Holodomor famine. (Kievpost).

“Bitter Harvest,” the first major movie about the genocidal artificial famine engineered by Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin in the 1930s, comes to cinemas in Ukraine and the U.S. in February 2017.

“Bitter Harvest” tells the story of two villagers, Yuri and Natalka – lovers, whose peaceful life is destroyed by the Soviet authorities, and who battle to survive the artificial famine, known in Ukraine as the Holodomor.

In times when a person could go to jail just for stealing a single ear of corn, Yuri becomes a key figure in the resistance against the Soviet oppressors.

The film shows how Ukrainian villagers were forced to give their whole harvest to the Soviet authorities, being left with no food at all. Those who kept any food were imprisoned or exiled to Siberia. People were also banned from leaving the rural areas so they couldn’t escape the famine.

The estimated number of people in Ukraine who starved to death in 1932-1933 varies from 2 million to 10 million.

Most Ukrainian historians believe that the Holodomor was Stalin’s attempt to strangle Ukraine’s nationalist movement and anti-Soviet protests by villagers.

Despite taking the lives of millions of people, the famine was kept secret by the Soviet authorities and only came to light after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.
“This would mean the death of millions,” a Soviet official says in the movie trailer, planning the starvation.“Who in the world will know?” Stalin replies.

The Ukrainian parliament declared the Holodomor an act of genocide in 2003. The same year, the United Nations issued a declaration that the Holodomor was a Ukrainian national tragedy caused by the totalitarian regime of the Soviet Union. Read the full story here.

"People or Green energy?" Obama decided as predicted for his 'Green Dream'.

"People or Green energy?" Obama decided as predicted for his 'green dream'.(PF).On Monday, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced a buyback program for pork, lamb, chicken and catfish. Coincidentally, President and desperate candidate Barack Obama was out in Iowa trying to stem the Romney/Ryan momentum. Yesterday he touted his new program.
“Today the Department of Agriculture announced that it will buy up to $100 million worth of pork products, $50 million worth of chicken, and $20 million worth of lamb and farm-raised catfish”
Lamb mainly fattens up on grass, but the drought is killing all the grass. If you have driven around the midwest at all lately, all you see is fields of brown. The leaves are already turning and falling off trees in many parts of the corn belt. Catfish, hogs and chicken all use grain as a primary feed source. Those farmers are feeling the heat of the drought the worst. Cattle farmers are also feeling it, but their herds were down prior to this so there is less to cull.
Of course, the funny thing about that amount of pork, it only buys around one day of kill. It’s a meaningless blip. The drought is driving up grain prices. ($ZC_F, $ZW_F, $ZS_F). That’s putting pressure on livestock producers. At these prices, they lose money on every head of cattle or hog going out the door. Word from the field is that a lot of producers are sending animals of the female persuasion to market. Anecdotally, on my drive south, I saw a sign where a farmer was selling his prize bull.
Livestock producers asked for relief from the federal government in the form of reduced ethanol mandates. But, because the Obama administration only believes in green energy, or “energy above the ground”, they won’t budge. This puts livestock producers in a terrible pickle.Hmmmm..........Obama doesn't care about people only his 'dreams' have priority......The Ukrainian Famine a.k.a. Joseph Stalin, in 1928, launched the first Five-Year Plan.Obama Tells His One-Percent Donors He needs another Five Years.(Politico).ATHERTON, Calif. — President Barack Obama told an intimate crowd gathered at the family estate of the heir to the Levi Strauss and Co. fortune that he has started to steer the ship in the right direction. “We’ve set a path and a target,” he said, “and a direction where this is again a country where everybody gets a fair shot, everybody does their fair share, everybody plays by the same set of rules.” The president ticked off accomplishments of his first term — from toughening fuel efficiency standards to health care reform. But he also noted a few things he wants to do in the future, including rebuilding the country’s infrastructure and tackling climate change “in a serious way.” His agenda, he suggested is far from complete. “We may not even finish it in five years,” Obama told roughly 70 supporters at the $35,800 per head dinner. “But I certainly need five more years to get us locked in on where we need to go.” The hosts, philanthropists Doug and Lisa Goldman, held the event at a leafy, family compound called “Green Shutters” and guests included actor Don Cheadle, vice chair emeritus of AOL Jan Brandt, and Google executives Susan Wojcicki and Dennis Troper.Hmmmm......The Ukrainian Famine a.k.a.
