Istanbul terrorist bomber said to have targeted Israeli group.

The suspected Islamic State bomber who killed three Israelis in Saturday’s bombing in Istanbul followed the tour group from their hotel to the restaurant, and waited outside for them before detonating his explosives, reports said Monday.

The reports, published in the Turkish media, appeared to contradict earlier assessments that the bombing didn’t deliberately target the Israeli tour group. The later reports, however, were unsourced and couldn’t be independently verified.

Turkish police on Sunday identified the bomber as Mehmet Ozturk, 23, an Islamic State member from Gaziantep province who spent two years in Syria before returning to Turkey illegally.

The T24 news site reported that Ozturk followed the tour group from their hotel in the Besiktas neighborhood of Istanbul, located near Taksim Square, to the restaurant on Istiklal Avenue where they ate breakfast on Saturday morning. When the group exited, the bomber blew himself up, the report said.

Ozturk reportedly stayed at a hotel on Barbaros Boulevard in Besiktas the night before the attack and received assistance from an unknown person, the Hurriyet newspaper reported.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at a press conference Saturday evening that Israel was “trying to get intelligence on whether the terror attack was targeted against Israelis,” but the prevailing assessment in the days immediately following the bombing was that it was merely incidental that Israelis were at the epicenter of the blast.

We don’t have any confirmation that the attack targeted Israelis,” he told reporters. Hmmm......Who informed him that there was a Jewish group staying at that particular hotel? Read the full story here.

Israel recommends citizens to avoid visiting Turkey saying there is a continuing threat against Israel and Jewish targets there.

A day after the deadly blast in Istanbul that killed three Israelis, the Counter-terrorism Bureau in the Prime Minister's Office called on Israelis to avoid visiting the country all together.

The new advisory is a more stringent one than the one that has been in place since August 2014, advising Israelis to refrain only from unnecessary travel to Turkey, saying there is a continuing threat against Israel and Jewish targets there.

The new advisory reads as follows: “Due to a worsening in the number of attacks in Turkey in tourist areas and crowded places, and focusing on the attack in central Istanbul (19.3.16) -- during which Israeli citizens were killed and wounded -- and amid a concern about future attacks, the counter-terrorism bureau is making more stringent the existing travel advisory to the country and recommends avoiding visiting Turkey.”

The advisory was upgraded from a Level 4 warning of the threat of potential attacks, to a Level 3 warning of the threat of concrete attacks.   Hmmm.....When will the other countries follow their lead? Will they wait till their own people get killed?

The bodies of three Israelis killed in a suicide bombing in Istanbul on Saturday were loaded on to an IDF airplane Sunday afternoon and taken to Israel, along with several wounded in the attack.

The victims were identified as Yonathan Suher, 40, Simha Dimri, 60, and Avraham Goldman, 69. Suher and Goldman were also named as United States citizens by the State Department.

Eleven more Israelis were hurt in the bombing on Istiklal Caddesi, a bustling two-kilometer-long pedestrian street usually thronged with shoppers, tourists and buskers.

Turkish medical officials said that among the Israeli wounded, two were in critical condition, two were in moderate condition and six were lightly injured. The condition of one more injured Israeli was not immediately clear.

Five wounded were transported to Israel on the IDF plane on Sunday, including one woman who was in critical condition.

“Israeli diplomats in Turkey worked all night to prepare the ground for the arrival of the IDF teams, treat the wounded, and coordinate with the authorities in Turkey,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement Sunday morning.

Five of the Israelis who were lightly wounded in the attack were already returned to Israel in two flights overnight Sunday. The IDF teams that arrived in Istanbul Sunday brought back the remaining Israelis who were injured in the attack. The Israeli Air Force plane left Istanbul on Sunday afternoon and landed in Israel several hours later.

The Israeli victims were part of a 14-member group on a culinary tour of Turkey.
The Magen David Adom rescue service said the return of the seriously injured Israelis was delayed in order to enable them to recover enough to travel. Hmmm.....If Europe allows free visa for Turks these bombings will become part of their daily life. Read the full story here.
