New York, Feb 14,  Member states of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) here on Thursday, by appreciating holding a conference in Mexico dubbed as ˈHuman Consequences of Nuclear Weaponsˈ, underlined necessity of moving towards access to a world free of nuclear arsenals.

In a statement, NAM states expressed their deep concern about devastating and long-term consequences of using nuclear weapons.

It stressed that using such weapons not only demolishes life of todayˈs generation, but endangers life of future generation and the environment.

The statement underlines importance of access to the goal of general disarmament as a step toward full devastation of nuclear weapons and to a world free of such arsenals.

It said that getting rid of of such weapons is on top of human society priorities and called on all world countries to respect international regulations and consider legitimate demands of the world community and fulfill their obligations in this respect.Hmmmm.....I'm sure Pres Obama is willing to act.....Oh ...Wait he's got a pen!!!

Damascus Urges Egypt to Adopt Clear Stance on Syria.(Fars). Syria's National Reconciliation Minister Ali Heydar called on Egyptian officials to adopt a transparent stance on the developments in Syria before taking an initiative and offering peace plans to the international community. "Before any other action, Egypt should declare its stance on armed groups to their backers and supporters directly and transparently," Heydar told the media in a press conference here in Tehran on Monday.
He pointed to the recent peace plan presented by Egyptian President Mohammad Mursi and Iran's support for the plan, and said, "I have had a meeting with Egyptian charge d'affaires and when he was speaking of Egypt's willingness to play a role in the national reconciliation in Syria, I gave him a clear response: Egypt or any other country that wants to play a role in this regard should keep a specific distance from all groups."
The Syrian minister said Egypt should inform those states which support armed groups of its stance towards the rebels and terrorists, and added, "We differentiate those countries which offer solutions to the Syrian crisis from those states which make a decision in this regard." "Thus, we have had no talks with senior Syrian officials about Egypt's plan," he said.
During the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which was held on August 14-15 in Mecca, Egyptian President Mohammad Mursi proposed the formation of the contact group on the situation in Syria. In a nutshell, Mursi has rejected the stratagem for 'regime change' in Syria by the United States in alliance with Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar (with Israel standing in the shade for undertaking covert operations). "You know it's a police state when" - Iran Mobilizes 110,000 Policemen to Guarantee NAM Security.(Fars).Tehran is fully capable of ensuring security of the upcoming Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit, Iran's Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Radan stressed, adding that the Iranian Law Enforcement Force has mobilized 110,000 policemen to protect the summit. Radan made the remarks at the start of police security drills here in Tehran on Saturday. Radan announced that 110,000 policemen on 2900 cars and 2500 motorcycles will be in charge of the security of the NAM summit in Tehran in the next few days. He added that the police have set up 14 committees and two headquarters to protect participants and the capital, Tehran, as the host city. Radan also announced that police have erected 360 checkpoints in the capital, 200 of them are under the command of police headquarters and the remaining 160 posts are controlled by Basij (volunteer) units. Iran's police and security forces staged massive drills Saturday morning to exercise the plans and measures adopted to boost the country's security during the NAM summit in Tehran in the coming days. During the drills held at Imam Khomeini's mausoleum South of Tehran on Saturday, the Iranian law enforcement and security forces officially started the operational phase of the countrywide plan for the security of the NAM summit. Senior commanders of the Iranian Law Enforcement Police, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and officials from the Interior Ministry's Security and Law Enforcement Department monitored the drills from the command-and-control center. The 16th NAM summit will be held in Tehran from August 26 to 31. Korea's Kim Jong-un won't attend NAM summit, mistranslated name to blame for false report?(YHN).Iran has confirmed North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will not attend a Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit to be hosted by Tehran next week, a senior Seoul official said Wednesday, denying a published foreign news report that Kim would take part. "We verified from Iran's Foreign Ministry that the report is not true," the senior official at Seoul's foreign ministry said on condition of anonymity.
A news report that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un plans to visit Iran next week to attend an international meeting seems to be misleading although Seoul is still working to verify it, a government official said Wednesday.
German news agency DPA reported earlier that Kim would attend the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran from Aug. 26 to 31, citing local news media. "Findings through various diplomatic channels to Iran have shown so far that it is not a fact," the Seoul official said on condition of anonymity.
The name of Kim Jong-un is being circulated among Iranian news media, but they may have mistakenly interpreted the mention of a visit by a "North Korean leader" to mean him, he said. Another official at the Unification Ministry, which handles inter-Korean issues, raised the possibility that Iranian media confused Kim Yong-nam, North Korea's ceremonial head of state, and Kim Jong-il, the de facto leader.
If the Iran government said "the top North Korean leader" will attend, it could mean Kim Yong-nam, the official said, referring to the title, rather than a name, listed as an attendee for the Iran summit. "Under the North Korean Constitution, the head of state externally representing the North is Kim Yong-nam, the president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly," the Unification Ministry official said. The ministry does not rule out the possibility of a visit by Kim Jong-un, he said. If so, it would be the 20-something leader's first foreign trip since coming to power in December. North Korea seems to have not submitted a specific identification of who will attend the summit beyond the given title, another government source said, adding, "for now, Kim Jong-un's attendance does not seem very likely." The NAM consists of 120 member states and 21 observer states that consider themselves not aligned to any major power bloc. Iran Hijacks Agenda of NAM Summit in Tehran.(Iran24/7).One thing is certain: Iran is more than happy to host the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran between the 26th and the 31st of August.
The NAM was created in 1961 during the collapse of the colonial system and had one main premiss- all member states committed not to form alliances with the major world powers (namely the United States and the former Soviet Union).
Today the NAM consists of 120 member states and 21 observers. While in the past the NAM had served as an important tool which protected post-colonial states, in the present, Iran intends to manipulate it for her own agenda. Specifically, due to the NAM sheer size, Iran will attempt to form a voting coalition to support her own agendas in the UN.
Iran does not only plan to hijack the summit’s agenda for its own diplomatic (and not so diplomatic) goals (detailed bellow), but also to gain support from NAM countries in order to be able to undermine the UN during the Iranian president’s address to the general assembly in September.
Furthermore, apart from attempting to form a voting coalition during the conference, Iran, who will serve as the NAM president for the following three years, will be able to speak in the name of the NAM states for the length of her presidency. This means that Iran can falsely project that their views are supported by all NAM states.
Iranian regime should not be allowed to exploit the NAM movement for her own purposes. The danger in allowing this to happen can be seen in the Iranian agenda itself, which includes (but not limited to):

• Undermining the UN sanctions.

In stark contrast to the agendas stated above, the spokesman for the Iranian political opposition calls on NAM states to stress the plight of political prisoners in Iran. The mere fact that the Iranian regime holds political rivals as prisoners shows how far Iran are from democracy and the danger in letting her leaders spearhead such an important and powerful movement as NAM.
Finally, it is important to note that the timing of the summit could not be better for Iran; it provides a golden opportunity to try and escape the enormous pressure Iran is under. A successful bid by Iran to form a voting alliance with NAM members will path Iran’s way to a nuclear bomb. Iran invites Syrian President al-Assad to upcoming NAM summit.(PTV).Iran's minister of communication and information technology has extended President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s invitation to his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad to take part in a next Non-Aligned Movement summit in Tehran. Reza Taqipour, who is paying an official visit to Damascus, met with the Syrian president and submitted the invitation to him at the Syrian presidential office on Thursday. The 16th summit of the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) will be held between August 26 and August 31 in the Iranian capital, Tehran. Iran will assume the rotating presidency of the movement for three years during the Tehran summit. NAM, an international organization with 120 member states and 17 observer countries, is considered as not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. The organization was founded in former Yugoslavia in 1961. The countries of the Non-Aligned Movement represent nearly two-thirds of the UN members and contain 55% of the world population.
