Lavrov: There are grounds to say Turkey benefits from oil business with terrorists.
Lavrov: There are grounds to say Turkey benefits from oil business with terrorists. (Tass).
There are grounds to say that Ankara was deriving profits from oil business with terrorists, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday.
He said Turkey and terrorists had "an oil business and business of contraband of artefacts and other illegal movements across the border the Turkish leadership was turning a blind eye on."
"Moreover, [the Turkish leadership] was lining its pockets from this business," he said.
The minister added, the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization (banned in Russia) gets support from countries neighboring Syria and Iraq.
"They get support from the outside, first of all, from the countries that neighbor Iraq and Syria," Lavrov said.
The foreign minister noted that terrorists are actively recruiting people. "Their aim is to create a caliphate from Portugal to Pakistan," the minister said.
"The Russian air group is helping to destroy infrastructure used by terrorists to replenish their purse," he continued.
However, he stressed, the war on terrorism is not over. "That is why we are now saying that it is necessary to separate the wheat from the chaff to see the key problem, as we once were able to see Nazism and fascism," he added.
"Today, we are far from the end of the road and have a great deal to do," he said. "But if everything that has been agreed within the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) and the United Nations Security Council is implemented honestly, there are all the chances to bring the situation out of the current state." ISIS cuts fighters' salary by 50 % amid financial hard times.
ISIS cuts fighters' salary by 50 % amid financial hard times. (JPost).
A new document released in December by Bayt al-Mal, the Treasury Ministry of ISIS, in Raqqa, reveals that ISIS has decided to cut the salaries of all its fighters in half due to the "exceptional circumstances" ISIS has been witnessing.
The "exceptional circumstances" ISIS has been witnessing were not detailed in the document, however, they are likely related to the massive airstrikes launched by the international coalition against ISIS positions in Raqqa in December and the Iraqi campaign to liberate the city of Ramadi from ISIS' hold.
The document stresses that the distribution of Zakat, a religious obligatory tax collected for poor Muslims, will not be hampered. Read the full story here.

Russian defense ministry: "Main Illegal Oil Transportation Routes Located on Turkey-Syria Border "
Russian Defense Ministry has presented photos of oil delivery convoys at Syria-Turkey border. (SP)
The general staff has irrefutable evidence on Turkey's involvement in illegal oil trade.
The oil from Daesh-controlled areas in Syria is being shipped to third countries for processing after having been transported to Turkey, the General Staff noted.
Russian Defense Ministry's information on Daesh oil trucks in Syria will be made publicly available online. Read the full story here. More details here .
Turkey’s leadership, including President Erdogan and his family,
is involved in illegal oil trade with Islamic State militants, says the
Russian Defense Ministry, stressing that Turkey is the final
destination for oil smuggled from Syria and Iraq.
According to Deputy Minister Anatoly Antonov, Russia is aware of three main oil smuggling routes to Turkey.
“According to our data, the top political leadership of the country - President Erdogan and his family – is involved in this criminal business.”
However, since the start of Russia’s anti-terrorist operation in Syria on September 30, the income of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) militants from illegal oil smuggling has been significantly reduced, the ministry said.
“The income of this terrorist organization was about $3 million per day. After two months of Russian airstrikes their income was about $1.5 million a day,” Lieutenant-General Sergey Rudskoy said.
The ministry provided photographs of columns of oil fuel tankers
on the Turkish-Syrian border. Fuel tankers with oil freely cross the
border between Turkey and Iraq, according to Russia's General Staff.“Today, we are presenting only some of the facts that confirm that a whole team of bandits and Turkish elites stealing oil from their neighbors is operating in the region,” Antonov said, adding that this oil “in large quantities” enters the territory of Turkey via “live oil pipelines,” consisting of thousands of oil trucks.Antonov added that Turkey is the main buyer of smuggled oil coming from Iraq and Syria.
