Video - One year in: Top 5 ways Trudeau and his Liberals are ruining Canada

Infrastructure spending OK, but that’s not what the Trudeau gov. proposes to do.

Infrastructure spending OK, but that’s not what the Trudeau gov. proposes to do. (FrazerInstitute).

Some of the details of the Liberal's budget, which ran almost 270 pages, are now emerging, resulting in serious questions about aspects of the budget.

As a number of researchers have already observed, the rhetoric of the Liberal budget simply doesn’t match their specific plans (see here, here, here). This gap between the rhetoric of the budget and its actual proposals is front and center in one of the budget’s signature sections: infrastructure spending.

Without debating the specific merits of any of these individual initiatives, it’s fairly clear that most of the “infrastructure” spending is not aimed at improving the core infrastructure of the country such as our roads, bridges and highways. In other words, simply calling the spending delineated above “infrastructure” doesn’t mean the spending is actually on infrastructure.

In addition, there are genuine questions about the “multipliers” included in the budget as a rationale for this spending.

The argument, rooted in Keynesian economics, is that governments can spend one dollar and generate more than one dollar’s worth of economic activity.

The narrative employed in the budget, which combines the concepts of both improving the long-term performance of the Canadian economy and the multiplier of infrastructure spending, is that such spending pays for itself.

The problems with this argument are twofold.
One, as outlined above, almost none of the spending referred to as infrastructure is actually on infrastructure.
And two, the concept of multipliers has been rigorously debated in economics and there is genuine debate about their validity. Read the full story here.

'GloBULLwarming Myths' - Climate change helps slow, not quicken, rising sea levels – NASA.

'GloBULLwarming Myths' - Climate change helps slow, not quicken, rising sea levels – NASA. (RT).

Glaciers are still melting, but climate change is having an unexpected effect on sea levels, NASA has found. Satellites show 3.2 trillion tons of water has been stored on land over the past decade, slowing the pace of rising sea levels by 20 percent.

Never before has the climate and weather-driven impact on water storage been so accurately studied. With the help of two satellites, the University of California at Irvine and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) determined that through lakes, aquifers, and other routes, land is practically soaking up the liquid like a giant sponge. The study is set to be published on Friday in the journal Science.

Enough water to fill Lake Huron, the seventh largest lake in the world, has been trapped, according to NASA. Before this study, researchers could only faintly guess at how the natural water cycle, or hydrologic cycle, would be impacted by climate change.

“We always assumed that people’s increased reliance on groundwater for irrigation and consumption was resulting in a net transfer of water from the land to the ocean,” the study’s lead author, J.T. Reager of JPL, said on NASA’s website. Reager started the research as a UC Irvine graduate student.

“What we didn’t realize until now is that over the past decade, changes in the global water cycle more than offset the losses that occurred from groundwater pumping, causing the land to act like a sponge – at least temporarily. These new data are vital for understanding decadal variations in sea level change. The information will be a critical complement to future long-term projections of sea level rise, which depend on melting ice and warming oceans,” Reager said.

The JPL-UC Irvine study contradicts a study from last year published in the journal Nature, which said the rising rate of sea levels was proceeding 2.5 times faster than it had been in 1990. Read the full story here.

Canada - Conservative critic warns Trudeau Admin: "Too dangerous to reopen Canadian embassy in Iran"

Canada - Conservative critic warns Trudeau Admin: "Too dangerous to reopen Canadian embassy in Iran" (Conservatives.ca).

The new Liberal government wants to re-establish diplomatic relations with Iran, and it is working to lift sanctions in return for Iran's compliance with the nuclear agreement with the United States and five other major powers.

Kent says Canadian diplomats would remain at risk in a newly opened embassy in Tehran because the Iranian government still isn't living up to its international obligations to protect foreign missions on its soil.

Kent cited attacks on the Saudi Arabian embassy earlier this month following the kingdom's execution of a prominent Iranian cleric. Kent also cited comments from Tehran in recent days since the landmark nuclear deal.

‎"I believe if the embassy is reopened, Canada will be putting its foreign affairs professionals at serious risk, given the Iranians' very selective protection of diplomatic staff," said Kent.

Iran’s past disregard for the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, its invasion of the UK Embassy, the burning of the Saudi embassy and its targeting of diplomats abroad are all issues on which the Liberal Party has remained silent.”

“While many, including Liberal Minister Dion are celebrating today’s ‘Implementation Day’, we remember all those who have been murdered or harmed by the Iranian regime’s complete disregard for human rights. Thousands of opponents of the regime, as well as religious minorities, gays and lesbians, and others have been a victim of the policies of an evil regime. Our thoughts are with them as well today.” Read the full story here , more here.

'Thank You Suckers' - Ukraine Triples Price for Transiting Russian Gas to Europe.

'Thank You Suckers' - Ukraine Triples Price for Transiting Russian Gas to Europe. (Novinite).

Ukraine has more than trebled the price of transiting Russian natural gas to Europe via its territory since the start of 2016, according to Ukrainian media outlet energy.apostrophe.com.ua.

The change means that Russia’s Gazprom now must pay Ukraine USD 7.9 to carry 1,000 cubic meters of gas along a distance of 100 km of Ukrainian pipelines. The price was USD 2.5 until the end of last year.

Ukraine’s energy regulator decided in December to increase the price of gas transit to Europe and change the formula for its setting. Until the end of 2015 the price of transit was pegged to the price of Russian gas according to an agreement between Ukraine’s Naftogaz and Russia’s Gazprom signed in 2009. Since the start of 2016 the price of transit is being set by Ukraine’s state –run energy regulator on the basis of expenditures incurred by Ukrainian gas transmission company Ukrtransgaz, with the impact of gas price on the price of transit being considerably reduced.

Ukraine is expected to send to Gazprom the first invoice calculated under the new rules next month – for the transit volumes shipped across the country’s territory in January, the Ukrainian media outlet said citing government sources.

Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolev has said that the new system of pricing in gas transportation introduced by Ukraine is in line with the rules of the European Union.
"Ukraine has introduced a new system of gas transportation relations. It applies not only to Gazprom but any company that wants to transport gas through Ukrainian territory. It will be transported according to the European rules," Kobolev told Ukrinform on Tuesday in Brussels.
According to Kobolev, the new system eliminates the concept of "transit", which is being replaced by the definition "export through input-output system." Hmmm.....Do they have to thank  VP Biden's son personally for this?

Trudeau government’s approach displays unprecedented arrogance.

Trudeau government’s approach displays unprecedented arrogance. (Thestar).

The throne speech delivered to Parliament on Friday featured the usual platitudes and vague commitments. However, it made one very specific engagement, a crystal-clear commitment: “To make sure that every vote counts,” it declared, “the government will undertake consultations on electoral reform, and will take action to ensure that 2015 will be the last federal election conducted under the first-past-the-post voting system.”
More importantly, the government declares that regardless of consultations, it will end the voting system that has been in use in Canada since democracy was introduced here in 1791 and which has anchored our political culture.
What is the point of promising consultations if the government has already made up its mind to proceed?

Remarkably, this voting system is not enshrined in our Constitution. The Constitution Act specifies that Members of Parliament must be “elected” but says nothing about what system is to be used to choose who will sit in the House of Commons. There is no constitutional amending formula that applies to any changes made to how Canadians vote. In other words, the government can do what it wants.
But the Trudeau government’s approach displays unprecedented arrogance.
The government of Canada simply cannot assume the powers of unilaterally changing the way in which we vote. It must conduct true consultations — rigorous and comprehensive consultations that are not simply driven by the self-appointed advocates of reform.

Regardless of its quality, however, the consultation process must also include a referendum, no matter how much it costs. And if that referendum rejects reform, the government must abide by the result. One thing is for sure: the electoral process is not Ottawa’s to change unilaterally. No government has the moral right to alter the precious process of elections without the approval of the people. Hmmmm.....As i warned The Canuck version of Obama on Steroids. Video - Canada - Liberal leader Trudeau's Dissociation.

Justin Trudeau seems increasingly out of line and step with voters regarding terrorism and removing the citizenship of Canadians who commit acts of terror. Hmmm....Not worried about how Canadians feel about it, just not willing to upset his 'Islamist' voters.
