A UN General Assembly committee has passed a resolution “combating glorification of Nazism,” with 126 countries voicing their support. 

Meanwhile, the US, Ukraine and Canada voted “against,” raising eyebrows. Moscow has called the decision “regrettable.”

The resolution, which was initially proposed by Russia and co-authored by 52 states, including Brazil, China, India, and Kazakhstan, deals with measures to fight the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism, and other practices that facilitate the escalation of modern forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance.

It condemns any denial of the Holocaust, as well as any form of glorification of the Nazi movement, including honoring former members of the Waffen SS organization. The document also expresses concern over the installation of memorials related to Nazism and “unending attempts to desecrate or destroy the monuments to those who fought against Nazism during World War II.”

A total of 126 member-states supported the resolution, while four countries — the US, Canada, Palau, and Ukraine – voted against it. Another 53 countries, including the European Union nations and NATO members abstained from the vote.

The four votes against the resolution raised questions, with Russia stating that it finds the decision of those countries to reject the resolution “bewildering” and “regrettable.”  Hmmmm........I wonder if the holocaust denial was the breaking point?

Canuck 'version' of Obama, Justin Trudeau and the Federal Liberals Are Preparing to Reduce Canada's Support for Israel.(HP).By Mitch Wolfe.

Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party have not decided to throw Israel under the bus, yet. For now, the Trudeau Liberals would prefer Israel move from a front seat on the bus. And take a seat more in the middle of the bus.

For the last several weeks I have had extensive discussions with Jewish and non Jewish Liberal supporters of Justin Trudeau.

I have also been directed to several articles, interviews and speeches written and given by several Middle East writers, experts and prominent Federal Liberals which apparently have influenced prominent Federal Liberals including Justin Trudeau, the "about to be crowned" new leader of the Federal Liberal Party.

As a result of these discussions, and these materials, I believe that Trudeau and the Federal Liberals have developed the following approach as to how the Federal Liberals under Trudeau would treat the ongoing Israel/Palestinian impasse.

This approach is a return to the balanced approach of Canada to Middle East politics. In other words, Trudeau et al want to return to the Liberals' traditional honest broker role in the Mideast. Made famous by the former Liberal Prime Minster Lester B. Pearson, and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

This approach could be summarized as follows. Under Trudeau, the Liberals still believe in a two-state solution. One state for Israel and one state for the Palestinians, in the West Bank and in Gaza.

The Trudeau Liberals believe that Canada should be a friend of Israel. But as a friend of Israel, the Trudeau Liberals believe that Canada is entitled to disagree with Israel's policies vis-a-vis the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank and the continuation of the illegal West Bank settlements.

The Trudeau Liberals still believe in the continued existence of Israel as a predominantly Jewish state. At least for now.

Where Trudeau differs from Harper, is that Trudeau and his fellow Liberals appear to be influenced by Paul Heinbecker, former Canada Ambassador to the United Nations, who is adamant that all the Israeli settlements in the West Bank must be dismantled. He and the Trudeau Liberals believe that these settlements are illegal and contrary to several UN Resolutions.

Accordingly, Trudeau and the Liberals want Israel to return to its pre-1967 borders, with few adjustments.
The Harper approach is more flexible and generous to the Israelis with respect to the West Bank settlements that have been created.

Secondly, Trudeau and his Liberals, based on their belief of the illegality of these West Bank settlements, want Israel to stop the expansion of any more settlements, as a pre-condition to Palestine Authority President Abbas re-engaging with Israel in peace talks.

This position is in contrast to the Harper government's position that peace negotiations should be commenced without any preconditions.

Furthermore, contrary to the Harper approach that the only solution to the current Israeli-Palestinian gridlock, is direct peace negotiations, between the parties themselves, Trudeau and the Liberals believe that the UN should play a more active role and Canada should play a more active role in the United Nations.

For the Trudeau Liberals, Canada has lost considerable international stature because of its one-sided support of Israel. Which they cite as the primary reason for Canada's failure in 2010 to secure a United Nations seat in the Security Council.

In other words, contrary to the Harper approach, the Trudeau Liberals are more amenable to Canada being supportive of the Palestinian quest for observer-state status at the United Nations.

Also as part of the balanced approach, Trudeau and the Liberals want to reach out to the current government in Gaza, being the Hamas government.

This is also contrary to the current Harper government with respect to Hamas. The Harper government treats Hamas as a terrorist organization.

The Trudeau Liberals believe that this approach is self-defeating. My sources advise that a new Trudeau government will try to find a diplomatic way, either directly or indirectly through the UN, to reach out to Hamas and to assert itself in the discussion in re-introducing Canada's balanced and even-handed honest broker role.

The Trudeau Liberals believe that Hamas was democratically elected to represent the Palestinian people in Gaza and no two-state solution can be successfully and effectively accomplished between Israel and the Palestinians without the approval of the Hamas government in Gaza and the support of the Palestinian people in Gaza.

These Trudeau Liberals also cite the Globe and Mail editorial of September 9, 2012, entitled, " Better To Talk to Your Enemies". In that editorial the Globe criticized the Harper government for closing down the Canadian embassy in Tehran, Iran. The Globe concluded, " It is precisely because it (Iran) is a threat to its own people and those in other countries that Canada should continue to talk with Iran and not retreat from its international responsibilities."

Similarly, the Trudeau Liberals do not believe that Hamas is a threat to its own people and those in other countries, (ie Israel) and regardless, Canada should reach out to Hamas and thus Canada should not retreat from its international responsibilities.

Justin Trudeau and the Liberals see that the Harper Government appears about 80% in favour of Israel and about 20% in favour of the Palestinians. Justin Trudeau wants to move Canada away from being so pro Israeli to being a good friend to Israel and to being a good friend to the Palestinians, more of a 50/50 split. Or perhaps even a 55/45 split in favour of the Palestinians.

Shades of Lester B. Pearson. It looks like Trudeau wants to take Canada back to the future.

What are Justin Trudeau’s foreign policy views, especially about the threat of Islamic terrorism?

Two years ago, Trudeau criticized the new citizenship guide for new immigrants, called Discover Canada. One passage in that guide book said, “Canada’s openness and generosity do not extend to barbaric cultural practices that tolerate spousal abuse, ‘honour killings,’ female genital mutilation, forced marriage or other gender-based violence.”

Pretty tough to disagree with that. But Trudeau did. He said, “There needs to be a little bit of an attempt at responsible neutrality” by the Canadian government. Honour killings shouldn’t be called “barbaric,” he said.

Same thing nearly two weeks ago, when Peter Mansbridge asked Trudeau about the Boston bombings. His thoughts were not with the victims, but rather the perpetrators. “We have to look at the root causes,” he said. “But there is no question that this happened because there is someone who feels completely excluded … We also have to monitor and encourage people to not point fingers at each other.”
Three were dead and close to 200 injured, but Trudeau was more concerned about finger-pointing.
Another worrisome sign came last December, when Trudeau spoke at a Muslim conference in Toronto that was sponsored by IRFAN-Canada. That group had its charitable status stripped by the Canada Revenue Agency in 2011, which claims they used deceptive fundraising to send nearly $15 million to groups with ties to the terrorist group Hamas. In the subsequent media storm, IRFAN quit as a sponsor. But Trudeau accepted the invitation when they were part of it.
If Trudeau lacks foreign policy judgment, who are his advisers? One answer is his brother, Alexandre “Sacha” Trudeau. Sacha once wrote a bizarre column in the Toronto Star praising Fidel Castro, saying, “His intellect is one of the most broad that can be found … Combined with a Herculean physique and extraordinary courage, this monumental intellect makes Fidel the giant that he is.”

Sacha is a filmmaker. He made an anti-American movie, called Embedded in Baghdad. He made an anti-Israel movie called The Fence. And his latest masterpiece is called The New Great Game, about Iran’s courageous decision to defy America and Israel. Sacha made it in co-operation with Press TV, the state-run propaganda agency of Iran.

Sacha is like Justin — a spoiled dilettante. But Trudeau’s more serious adviser is Omar Alghabra, the Saudi-born former president of the Canadian Arab Federation who briefly served as an MP from Mississauga.
This month, Alghabra told Al Jazeera, “On the issue of Iran, Trudeau has clearly stated that he is for engagement.”
But that’s the thing. The world tried engagement for years. Iran played us for fools and kept building nuclear weapons. So now the world’s democracies are done engaging Iran. We’re desperately trying to stop them now with full-blown sanctions. But Trudeau wants to suddenly reverse course? To reward Iran with normalized relations?
Alghabra has extreme views. When he was president of the Canadian Arab Federation in 2004, he denounced Canada’s largest newspaper chain for using the term “terrorist” to describe Muslim terrorist groups like the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade. He said that was a mere opinion, not a fact.
Alghabra wrote a letter to Toronto’s police chief in 2005 condemning the chief for participating in a charity walk for Israel, saying Israel was “conducting a brutal and the longest contemporary military occupation in the world.” In a letter to a journalist, he wrote the chief’s visit to Israel was comparable to visiting Saddam Hussein’s dictatorship.
When arch-terrorist Yasser Arafat died, Alghabra put out a press release announcing he was mourning for him. When Canada was setting up a no-fly list for passengers considered security threats, Alghabra opposed it.
And when Ontario narrowly rejected adopting shariah law for Muslim divorces, Alghabra was disappointed, calling it “unfortunate.”
Justin Trudeau’s instincts are wrong — on terrorism, on honour killings, on extremist groups.
But even scarier than his own instincts are those of his advisers.

Communist Party USA backs Obama gun grab, calls Second Amendment obsolete.

Communist Party USA backs Obama gun grab, calls Second Amendment obsolete.(Examiner).Calling the Second Amendment "obsolete," the Communist Party USA announced through its publication that it supports Obama's attempt to limit the right to keep and bear arms, Jim Hoft of the Gateway Pundit reported Thursday.
According to the People's World, the CPUSA mouthpiece, "the ability to live free from the fear or threat of gun violence is a fundamental democratic right" that it says supersedes what it called "any so-called personal gun rights allegedly contained in the Second Amendment."
The article also bemoans the fact that the same people who support the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms are the same people who supported Mitt Romney.
"The Second Amendment is obsolete and now has been twisted to threaten the basic safety and security of all Americans," Rick Nagin wrote.
Nagin also went on to claim that the Second Amendment was only a tool used by "right wing extremists," and blames the NRA for every gun murder in the country.
"Having lost the 2012 election, these forces are now howling for utilizing 'Second Amendment remedies' to get their way," Nagin claimed, without providing any examples or citing any sources. He also falsely claimed that Fox News, the NRA and conservative talk show hosts have "goaded" such talk.
Since the tragic Newtown shootings, liberals have blamed the NRA for the deaths instead of the person who pulled the trigger. Some, like John Cobarruvias, a member of the Texas Democratic Party Executive Committee, have called for NRA members to be killed and many have called for the Second Amendment to be repealed.
"Can we now shoot the #NRA and everyone who defends them?" Cobarruvias tweeted. He deleted the tweet and issued an "apology" but he repeated the sentiment on his Facebook page.
"They need to [be] wiped off the face of the earth," he wrote, speaking of the NRA and those who support owning guns.
"Personally if they were wiped off the planet it wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit," he wrote in another comment.
Those comments have since been deleted, but they seem to represent how many in the anti-gun left feel.
Hoft reminded readers that "Stalin was able to control, starve, punish and imprison a defenseless people" after he and the communists took control.
"So," he wrote, "it should come as no surprise that that Communist Party USA would support Barack Obama and his plans to ban assault weapons and place more restrictions on gun owners."Read the full story here.
