Men dressed as Ottoman janissaries chased Santa Claus in a street show protesting the celebration of New Year's Eve in western Turkey, which ended with Santa converting to Islam.

As the show proceeded, Santa was brought to face a qadi, an Islamic judge in the Ottoman era, after he was caught by the janissaries, the Ottoman elite infantry units.

The act, staged by members of the nationalist-Islamic Grand Unity Party (BBP) in the province of Bolu, highlights anti-New Year's Eve celebrations sentiments in Turkey, where the festivity is widely deemed to be associated with Christianity.

The City of Toronto has agreed to hear an appeal from a Christian group after it was banned last month from using a prominent downtown square for its annual musical festival on account of musicians singing about Jesus.

The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, the legal group representing Voices of the Nations, will make the appeal to the square’s Board of Management December 10 at Toronto City Hall.

Wynna Brown, manager of media relations and issues management for the City of Toronto, told LifeSiteNews that the appeal process exists for “applicants that do not meet the guidelines, or disagree with permit decisions.”

“Upon written request, the Board of Management will review and consider such matters at one of its regularly scheduled meetings,” she said.

It was almost a month ago when the Christian group was told that it would not be given a permit for its annual event in the City’s downtown Yonge-Dundas Square, where the group had been celebrating Christianity through a live music and dance event without issue for the past five years.

On October 22, Natalie Belman, the manager of events for Yonge-Dundas Square told the group it had violated the City’s policy against “proselytizing” by signing the name of Jesus.

“If you’re praising Jesus, ‘praise the Lord,’ and ‘there’s no God like Jehovah,’ that type of thing, that’s proselytizing,” she told the group in a recording of a phone conversation obtained by LifeSiteNews.

On November 3, the Justice Centre issued a legal warning letter on behalf of the Christian group to the City of Toronto, demanding that the group’s application be approved by Tuesday, November 10, or the City would face “court action.”

On November 9, one day before the deadline, Voices of the Nations delivered petitions with over 40,000 signatures — 30,000 collected by LifeSiteNews and the remainder by TheRebel.media — to Mayor John Tory’s office demanding that the City reverse the decision.

But the City failed to meet the November 10 deadline to reverse the ban, which prompted the Christian group to ramp up preparations for a rally, taking place yesterday Saturday, in support of Christian expression in the public square.

 Hmmmmm.........Apparently the city has no problem with the police services celebration Islamic heritage month in December.....while it is in October that this celebration is sheduled for Canada.

The ban by the City of Toronto to 'Voices of the Nations', a Christian musical group, to hold its usual festival in this city (see here), caused an outcry of Christians throughout Canada and responsiveness of good quality. 

A petition of over 40,000 individuals was delivered to the municipality ... who ignored this petition.

Voices of the Nations is now considering legal action against the City of Toronto, but will be supported by a large gathering which is convened Saturday 21 November.

The "battle for the rights and freedoms" of Christians has started in Canada. The event will be held on the theme: "Stop anti-Christian bullying now! ". A pugnacious and effective video has just been put online, along with a dedicated website. We will follow all this very carefully .

“The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) has created an example of regulate first and explain why later. In October they proposed new regulations to outlaw strings of bulbs, lighted lawn figures and similar items that would be declared as hazardous. The red tape deals with certifying wire sizes, fuses, and tensile strength of all “seasonal decorative lighting products.”

“This includes Christmas tree lights, lighted wreaths, menorahs, outdoor strands, lawn figures of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, or Santa or Rudolph or Frosty the Snowman. Yes, Kwanzaa, too.

The agency estimates that their proposed regulations will impact 100 million items per year with a market value of $500 million.

“CPSC would never admit it, but we’re free to speculate on the true motive: That this is part of the Obama administration’s effort to reduce our use of electricity, lest global warming set the Earth on fire.(Or not to offend other 'peaceful' religions)

“CPSC’s comment period closes on Dec. 30th and its proposed regulations could become effective a month later. So enjoy everybody’s Christmas lights this holiday season, while you can.”

Every year, with the approach of the Christian holidays, and particularly Christmas, religious rulings are published in the Arab and Muslim world prohibiting Muslims from participating in the Christian celebrations and from extending holiday greetings to Christians. 

In an article published in the liberal website Elaph.com on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2013, Saudi author and journalist Hani Nakshabandi urged Muslims to join Christians in celebrating Christmas and attacked Muslim clerics who prohibit this. He also lamented that, while churches preach love and forgiveness, some mosques incite to hatred and killing.

Below are translated excerpts from the column:

“I listened to the Christmas sermon in a few churches, and they called for love and forgiveness. I also listened to a few Friday sermons [in the mosques] and most dealt with the ban on celebrating Christmas and threatened [anyone doing so] with hell. One side calls for love and the other side threatens damnation! And all this for celebrating a holiday that by nature is more a social event than a religious [festival].

“People like holidays because they are joyful and are [an opportunity for] socializing, not because of the prayers and religious rituals. Why therefore shouldn’t I participate [in something] that will augment happiness in society? Am I obliged to transform [the celebration] into grief in order to be a faithful Muslim?! A reliable hadith states ‘a good word is considered charity’. 

If a mere word [entitles the person uttering it] to a reward, then shouldn’t this apply even more to cases involving sharing another’s happiness in a manner that increases cheer in society as a whole? Can there be a greater act of charity than this? Does celebrating the Christian Christmas mean that I have become a Christian? Why this religious phobia towards the other?

“One [of the preachers] who ruled that celebrating Christmas is prohibited asked: Why should we participate in their holidays when they don’t participate in ours? This question is pointless for two reasons: First of all, they [do] greet us on our holidays; second, our holidays – both Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha – [are celebrated through] prayer. Should we demand that they pray in the mosques or make a pilgrimage to Mecca to complete their participation in our [holidays] “?

“Tune the radio to any news channel. Most of the news items concern a killing here and a bombing there… and the vast majority, most unfortunately, are connected to Muslims. 

To [dissociate] ourselves [from these acts], we term [those perpetrating these actions] extremist terrorists. However an extremist is also someone who rules that celebrating the holidays [of non-Muslims] is forbidden because he objects to a world engulfed in love and prefers hating and ostracizing the other and even hopes that the other will die, if possible.

“The most accurate description of war I have ever heard was ‘old people feuding and young people dying.’

The same applies to our Muslim society, when some aged [clerics] issue religious rulings [that cause] disasters leading young people to die in suicide attacks or throat-slitting.

Do we need love or killing? I hope the day will come when Muslim religious scholars have the courage to admit that participating in the celebrations and festivities of another – any other –is a good deed that is not motivated by love for this religion or other but by the desire that love should prevail throughout the world.”

Christmas trees are pretty unpopular, right?

The House must think so, since its farm bill would pave the way to set up a Christmas Tree Promotion Board. Its purpose would be “to enhance the image of Christmas trees and the Christmas tree industry in the United States.”

And it would be funded by a 15-cent tax on fresh Christmas trees—which sellers are free to pass on to you, the Bob Cratchits of America.

A couple of years ago, after significant backlash—in large part due to the efforts of The Heritage Foundation—the Administration backed off and issued a stay of this tax. But now Congress could make the tax a reality as the House and Senate work out differences between their farm bills.

As Heritage expert Daren Bakst has said:

A 15-cent tax may not seem like much. However, taxes are a death by a thousand cuts. One of those cuts shouldn’t come from the Christmas tree. One way to actually hurt the image of the Christmas tree is to make it a symbol of taxation during the holiday season.

Congress might as well throw in a jingle bell tax, too. That’s how farm-related a lot of the “farm” bill is. The “farm” policies Congress is considering include:

• 80 percent food stamps: The House bill would make modest changes to this welfare program, but the Senate would do virtually nothing to rein in the massive growth in food stamp spending.
• Ultra-high-speed broadband access for rural areas.
• Policies that actually drive up food prices for Americans.
• Giving money to farmers for doing absolutely nothing.

Congress may agree to consider a new farm bill any time now. As it is, taxpayers could be looking at a trillion-dollar, subsidy-filled disaster—complete with a Christmas tree tax. Humbug.
