Report: Turkey's Oil Imports from Iran Remain Unchanged in December.(Fars).Turkey has not declined its oil imports from Iran, and Ankara is still purchasing the Iranian crude despite the rumors that the two countries have reduced their energy deals under the pressures from the US and its allies, media reports said. Turkey's oil imports from Iran stood at 100,000 barrels per day in December which showed no change compared with the previous month, November, press tv reported on Saturday.
Turkey's only oil refinery, Tupras, received two Iranian crude cargoes, 145,000 tons and 140,000 tons, at the Tutunciftlik import terminal in December.
In November, two oil cargos were imported from Iran, one of which was discharged at Tutunciftlik and the other one at Aliaga import terminals.
Last month, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz announced that Washington has not demanded Ankara to reduce its oil purchase from Tehran, but Turkey will continue buying Iranian crude no matter what the western demands are.
"Under any circumstances we will continue purchasing crude oil from Iran like in the past," Yildiz told reporters at the time.
"There is no new demand from the US to reduce the amount of crude oil which we get from Iran," he said.
Earlier last month, Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan stressed that the US-led western sanctions against Iran can no way undermine his country's ties with Iran.
"The decision of the US and the European Union does not influence Iran-Turkey relations," Caglayan said in Ankara on Sunday.
He noted that the US administration sanctions policy is only related to that country, alluding that Washington cannot make other nations obey its extraterritorial laws.
Trade between Turkey and Iran has risen sharply over the past decade.
Turkey was Iran's fifth-largest oil customer in 2011, buying around 200,000 barrels per day, 30 percent of its total imports and more than 7 percent of Iran's oil exports.
The two countries officials stressed the necessity for stronger relations and pursuing the planned increase of mutual trade to $30bln by 2015. Hmmmm....Will Turkey and Iran continue flipping the finger to America?Read the full story here.
