In a speech that ranged between scholarly speculation and conservative politics, Turkish PM Davutoğlu has linked the higher suicide rates in rich countries like Scandinavian ones with the 'mechanical equality' they have in gender relations.
"Why is the Gross National Product in most developed countries – I don’t want to name it but in Scandinavian countries and in many other countries – at the highest level on one side [GDP], but the suicide rate is also at the highest level there. Why?” Turkey's Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu asked Dec. 4.
The culprit is their system of "mechanical equality” that they created in their gender relations, he said answering his rhetorical question, while stressing the importance of "motherhood" and describing his government as a champion on the matter.Read the full story here.
