Turkish Man dressed as Imam addressing AK Party rally says Davutoğlu appointed PM by Prophet. (TZ).
A man dressed as an imam told crowds at an election rally held by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) on Saturday that he once had a dream in which Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu was appointed by the Prophet Muhammed.
Addressing crowds in İstanbul's Yenikapı Square, the man in religious garb said that when he was visiting the Prophet's Mosque located in the Saudi Arabian city of Medina, he had a dream in which Davutoğlu wore a shirt adorned with the words, “prime minister.” The man then declared,
“The Prime Ministry was given to him by the Messenger of God,” while asking the crowd to vote for Davutoğlu's AK Party to ensure a better future for the Muslim world.
In addition to his statements explicitly politicizing religion, the man also argued that the faith of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) was doubtful, implying the parties are blasphemous.
“May God give reason and sense to Felicity Party (SP) and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) [followers],” the man continued. He then asked the people to support President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and “his soldiers."
AK Party government officials have already been under fire for their controversial remarks on religion and their attribution of righteousness to former Prime Minister and current President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
In a similar vein, Deputy Health Minister Agah Kafkas once said, “When we lay the foundation of a [facility], we also provide the date of its opening. This is the sunnah -- Muslim practices based on the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad -- of Tayyip Erdoğan.” No government officials or supporters have publicly objected to the statements.
AK Party Bursa deputy Hüseyin Şahin is known to have said that touching Erdoğan is a form of prayer, while AK Party Düzce deputy Fevai Arslan said Erdoğan has all the attributes of God himself.
While public figures aim at increasing the popularity of the AK Party with such controversial statements, it often backfires as the conservative sections of society find such extreme partisanship offensive and impious. Hmmm......Last time a 'leader' was glorified in such way it was 1939 NAZI Germany.
