Canadian charged in BC Canada for plotting ‘IS-inspired attacks’. (VB).
A man was arrested and charged in British Columbia Friday after allegedly posting material supporting the Islamic State group and calling for killings in the name of “jihad,” officials said.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said 33-year-old Othman Ayed Hamdan of Fort St. John, about 1,200 kilometers (745 miles) north of Vancouver, was charged on three counts.
He is accused of counseling to commit murder, counseling to assault causing bodily harm and counseling to commit aggravated assault — all “for the benefit of a terrorist group,” according to an RCMP statement.
Court search shows Hamdan has been in court before for explosives in Fort St. John.
“Hamdan was involved in posting pro-Islamic State (IS) propaganda online which included inducement and instructions to commit murder in the name of jihad,” the statement said.
Hamdan, who has been under investigation since October 2014, is in custody and is expected to appear in court shortly.
The RCMP said “a number of items” were seized from his residence.
“We were able to arrest this individual and disrupt his efforts to harm citizens across the country,” said RCMP Superintendent Dan Bond, an assistant criminal operations officer for national security.
Documents obtained by CBC show that a 33-year-old man with the same name in Fort St. John owns a residential building contracting company called Noex Contracting.
Canadian lawmakers passed new anti-terror measures this year, in response to attacks on Canadian soil last October, when a gunman shot dead a ceremonial guard and then stormed parliament, and a soldier was run over and killed in rural Quebec.
The toughened stance has drawn criticism from those who say it violates civil rights and say the law is too broad and lacks oversight.
Officials defended the measure Friday after Hamdan’s arrest, and said that the government would remain vigilant.
“It is clear that the terrorism threat is real. The international jihadist movement has declared war on Canada,” said Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney.
“That is why our government passed the anti-terrorism act… which enhances the ability of our police officers to detain suspected terrorists before they can harm Canadians.”
“The RCMP encourages citizens to remain vigilant and to report any information on terrorism or related suspicious activities to the National Security Information Network at 1-800-420-5805 or by contacting the police in their community.” Hmmm......Is it me or does the name sound Turkish? "Made In Canada?" - Chinese Tourists Film Bigfoot In Canada, Hikers Catch Sasquatch On Video In British Columbia.HT: BIN.
While the first video shows a group of Chinese tourists who are watching and filming an alleged Bigfoot at close quarters, the second video is a Bigfoot from a distance and is said to have been filmed by hikers in the forests of British Columbia.
This tourist was visiting Mission, BC, Canada. Someone in the group witnessed something large moving in the woods. Those that didn’t run away stayed to get a better look, many photos and videos were taken before the large hairy biped ran towards the group then away.
This is one of the videos they captured that definitely looks like evidence that there is a real live Sasquatch, or Bigfoot, in the hills of Mission BC. It’s a must see!

Two held in British Columbia 'Canada Day bomb plot', BC terror suspect remembered as follower, chameleon.
Two held in British Columbia 'Canada Day bomb plot', BC terror suspect remembered as follower, chameleon.HT: SunNews.
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - To some who knew her, terrorism suspect Amanda Korody was a chameleon. She was bright and creative. A guitarist and singer. But she was also a troubled young woman whose external identity was often shaped by who she was closest to.RELATED: Duo arrested for BC terror plot on Canada Day
"How she dressed and acted depended on who she was hanging out with or who she was dating," said Whitney Harte, who said she attended St. Catharines Collegiate with Korody in the late 1990s. "So at one point she always dressed like a raver. Then it was goth. She was always changing."
The change was never as radical, Harte said, as it was three years ago. Although Korody had long since moved to British Columbia, the pair kept in touch often through Facebook. Given her past style changes, Harte said she was shocked to see a photo of Korody on Facebook, garbed in a niqab - the full veil worn by some Muslim women.
"We got into a big fight about it," said Harte. "But I also thought, ‘OK, maybe she has moved on to a better place for her.' I guess it turns out she didn't."
Korody, 30, along with John Stuart Nuttall, was arrested in Abbotsford, B.C., by the RCMP and charged with facilitating a terrorist activity, possession of an explosive device and conspiracy to commit an indictable offense.Police say they disrupted a plan to detonate homemade explosives at the provincial legislative buildings during a Canada Day event. The RCMP describe the bomb-plot as inspired by al-Qaida ideology, but was not connected to any international terrorist organizations.
Korody still has family in St. Catharines, but they declined comment Wednesday.
Harte said she and Korody were part of small group of friends and they also worked at a telemarketing centre together.
She said Korody was bright and musically inclined, but troubled.
Until 2005, Korody kept an online journal, Harte said, which often documented struggles with an anxiety disorder and physical pain.
Jeffery Rossetto, who met Korody in 2001 not long before she moved to B.C., said she obviously struggled but described her as kind hearted.
"But what really bothers me is that she is being portrayed as a Jihadist or some kind of Muslim extremist. She isn't.She is caught up in something, obviously. But I think she is a victim of circumstances," he said.
Harte said she would never have anticipated Korody being arrested on terrorism charges, even though the change in religion was less shocking, given Korody's past shifts in lifestyle.
"She often took things too far. She would always go to an extreme with whatever she was into," said Harte.
