11,491 Syrian Refugees Admitted Already by Obama 'Admin'; 0.46% Are Christians.

11,491 Syrian Refugees Admitted Already by Obama 'Admin'; 0.46% Are Christians. (CNS).

With three weeks of the fiscal year to go, the Obama administration has exceeded its Syrian refugee admission target by 15 percent, with 11,491 resettled in the United States as of the beginning of this week.

Since President Obama’s goal of 10,000 Syrian refugee admissions in FY 2016 was achieved on August 29, the number continues to pick up steadily.

August ended with a new monthly record of 3,189 Syrian refugee arrivals, and a further 751 have been ushered in so far in September: 749 Sunni Muslims; two Catholic Christians.

State Department Refugee Processing Center data show that of the now total 11,491 arrivals this fiscal year, the vast majority – 11,300, or 98.33 percent – are Sunnis.
Just 54 of the 11,491 – 0.46 percent – are Christians. They comprise 14 Catholics, six Orthodox, four Protestants, one Greek Orthodox, plus 29 refugees identifying themselves simply as “Christian” rather than by denomination or sect.
The remaining 137 are made of up of 20 Shi’a Muslims, 90 refugees described simply as Muslims, 17 Yazidis, four Jehovah’s Witnesses, five refugees identified as “other religion,” and one as having “no religion.”

Millions of Syrians of all religious persuasions have fled the civil war that has ravaged their country since mid-2011. At the start of the conflict an estimated 74 percent of Syrians were Sunni and an estimated 10 percent were Christians.*

Since the civil war began, the U.S. has admitted a total of 13,364 Syrian refugees, of whom 13,019 (97.4 percent) are Sunnis and 102 (0.7 percent) are Christians.

The remainder include Shi’a Muslims (33), other Muslims (150), Yazidis (18), Jehovah’s Witnesses (12), Zoroastrians (6), refugees self-reported as having “no religion” (8), refugees identifying themselves as “other religion” (11), atheists (3) and Baha’i (2).

Under the 1951 Refugee Convention, persecution on the grounds of religion is one of five criteria for determining whether an applicant should be granted refugee status (the others relate to race, nationality, political opinion or membership of a particular social group.)

Hmmm.......If the 10 %* rule would be applied it would mean 1,100 Christian refugees would be admitted.

Russian Orthodox Patriarch: "400 Syrian Churches Destroyed, Christianity Nearing ‘Extinction’ in Middle East"

Russian Orthodox Patriarch: "400 Syrian Churches Destroyed, Christianity Nearing ‘Extinction’ in Middle East" By (Raymond Ibrahim).

Around mid-April, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia –who once wrote a letter to Barack Obama beseeching the president to reconsider his foreign policies which enable the persecution of Christians in Syria — spoke again of the threat of Christian extinction in the Mideast during a meeting with Greek Defense Minister Panagiotis Kammenos. In the Russian Patriarch’s own words:
I regularly get reports of horrible crimes that are committed there against Christians, especially in northern Iraq. I have visited those places and I remember that there were many churches and monasteries there. The city of Mosul alone had 45 churches. Now there is not a single one. The buildings have been destroyed. Four hundred churches have been destroyed in Syria… The presence of the Christian minority was a factor that, in a good sense, brought tolerance and good relations between Christians and Muslims… Now Christianity is the most persecuted religion. The same is happening in Nigeria, Pakistan, and Northern Africa. In some countries of Europe, too, people are prohibited from wearing crosses at work, citing the need for tolerance, do not use the word ‘Christmas’, do not call Easter – Easter, saying just winter holiday or spring holiday instead. Hmmmm.....Actions speak louder then words....'By their fruits you will know them'

Though many high level delegations from UN member states addressed the Security Council meeting, some at the Foreign Minister level, the United States failed to send UN Ambassador Samantha Power (and Secretary Kerry was busy negotiating a nuclear deal with Iran) or a high ranking member of the State Department. Why not?

As Christians and other minorities continue to be purged in the Middle East in general under the Islamic State and other jihadi organizations in particular, France sponsored an open UN Security Council meeting on March 27, to discuss “The Victims of attacks and abuses on ethnic and religious grounds in the Middle East. ”

While several Western nations sent high ranking officials to attend, the United States did not.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius opened by saying “Make no mistake, In the Middle East we are facing a barbaric, systematic process of ethnic and religious eradication. Although the majority of the jihadi terrorists victims are Muslim, non-Muslim communities are priority targets. ”

Taking specifically about Christians, Yazidis and Kurds, the French minister said that they “all are threatened with the same triangle of horror: forced exile , enslavement, or death.”

Austria’s Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz said that the Islamic State’s actions must be seen as war crimes and genocide and must not go unpunished.

Poland’s ambassador, Boguslaw Winid, said that “The history of the twentieth century teaches about the need to act in the face of similar developments to prevent even bigger-scale atrocities.
