President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s private secretary Hasan Doğan announced over Twitter on Tuesday that the president will be attending the pro-government rally to be held Oct. 4 in Strasbourg at 12:30 p.m. local time.

Organized by the Civilian Solidarity Platform to condemn the recent escalation of terrorist attacks by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), the “Millions of Souls, One Voice United Against Terrorism” rallies have been accused by critics of being nothing more than campaign events for Erdoğan’s Justice and Development Party (AK Party).

Chairman of main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu also slammed Sunday’s rally as insincere, saying that the government itself was responsible for the escalation of violence in the country and had no place condemning it.

“Those who have nourished and grown terror, who have refused the investigation of terror,” said Kılıçdaroğlu, “they seem to think the fight against terrorism is conducted with songs and ballads.”

The rallies are also an opportunity for the president to once again indirectly campaign for the AK Party. Though the Turkish constitution demands objectivity from presidents and explicitly bars them from engaging in party politics, Erdoğan has frequently sidestepped such restrictions through the use of legal loopholes, asking for votes for “a certain party he has in his heart” to avoid directly promoting the AK Party he founded, or in this case, by condemning terrorism. UK Gov new 'plans': Will Have To Register With Gov. Under Proposed Regulations; Leaked Document Calls Muslim Brotherhood “Extremist Movement” HT: Telegraph.

Imams, priests, rabbis and other religious figures will have to enrol in a ‘national register of faith leaders’ and be subject to government-specified training and security checks in the Home Office’s latest action on extremism.

The highly controversial proposal appears in a leaked draft of the Government’s new counter-extremism strategy, seen by The Telegraph, which goes substantially further than previous versions of the document

The strategy, due to be published this autumn, says that Whitehall will ‘require all faiths to maintain a national register of faith leaders’ and the Government will ‘set out the minimum level of training and checks’ faith leaders must have to join the new register.

Registration will be compulsory for all faith leaders who wish to work with the public sector, including universities, the document says. In practice, most faith leaders have some dealings with the public sector and the requirement will cover the great majority.”

With respect to the Muslim Brotherhood in the UK, the report cites the following section from the document that describes the Muslim Brotherhood as an “extremist movement”:

The document defines extremism as “the vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and the mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs,” or as calling for the death of members of the British Armed Forces.

It also names a number of specific groups – including the Association of Muslim Schools, which has close links to a number of the Trojan Horse plotters.

A Government review into the Brotherhood, completed months ago, has still not been published. Hmmm......Maulana Shah Raza, founding member of the Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board (Minab), a self-regulatory body designed to promote best practice, warned the Government “not to meddle in religious affairs or to expand the state’s involvement in deciding on religious and theological issues”. Infant mortality numbers in Turkey top Europe.(HD). Infant mortality numbers in Turkey increased in 2012, marking the worst rates in Europe, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) yesterday.

The number of babies who died before reaching their first birthday increased in 2012 to 14,845 from 14,511 in 2011 in Turkey. Turkey’s infant mortality rate tops the rate of European countries with 11.6 per mille in 2012, according to TÜİK data.(According to CIA World Factbook 2012: 23.07)


The average infant mortality rate of the 27 European Union countries is 3.9 per mille in 2011, according to the EU’s statistical office EUROSTAT data. This rate was 0.9 per mille in Iceland, 2.1 per mille in Sweden, 2.4 per mille in Norway, according to EUROSTAT.(3,6 For Israel in 2010).

Akdeniz University Medicine Faculty Academic Sevtap Velipaşaoğlu Güney told Anatolia news agency yesterday that the increase in 2012 infant mortality rates must be examined. Güney said that this increase showed that something was wrong, adding that the reasons of these deaths should be revealed.

Güney also said that the 65 percent of infant deaths took place in the first month the baby born.

Meanwhile, the TÜİK data also showed that the number of babies born alive last year increased by 3.1 percent last year with a number of 1.2 million. The total fertility rate was 2.08 children.

The province of Şanlıurfa has the highest total fertility rate in 2012 with 4.39 children per family. It was followed by Şırnak with 4.1 children, Ağrı with 4 children and Siirt with 3.8 children, according to the TÜİK data.Hmmmm.....No info on the Gender?Read the full story here.More here.

European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, visiting Cairo, said on Sunday the European Union and other financial institutions had offered Egypt over 5 billion euros to support Egypt's democratic transition.
"The European Union and associated financial institutions have offered an amount of more than 5 billion euros, or more than $6.5 bln, in grants, concessional loans and loans for a period of 2012 and 2013 to support Egypt's democratic transition," Rompuy told reporters.
