Russia Nominates WWII Movie ‘Stalingrad’ for Oscars.(RN).

Russia has nominated film director Fyodor Bondarchuk’s World War II drama “Stalingrad” for the US Academy Awards, a member of Russia’s Oscars nomination commission said.

“We’ve decided to put forward ‘Stalingrad,’” producer Yevgeny Gidilis told RIA Novosti on Friday.
“Stalingrad” tells the story of group of Soviet soldiers fighting Nazi Germans and their allies in the Battle of Stalingrad, one of the bloodiest battles in human history.
It is the first Russian movie made completely with 3D technology, with a $30 million budget.
The Oscars will be awarded on March 2, 2014 in Los Angeles. American TV host and actress Ellen DeGeneres will host the ceremony.
Bondarchuk is a popular Russian filmmaker and actor whose oeuvre includes several action-packed blockbusters and dozens of music videos.
The Oscar could be the second one in his family – his father, director and actor Sergei Bondarchuk, won one in the best foreign-language film category for his adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s “War and Peace” novel in 1968.

U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama was given a quick makeover by Iranian media on Monday, during her appearance at the Oscars.
Her shoulders and chest area were covered up by a speedy photoshop snip of her Oscars dress while she appeared at the ceremony via a video link from the White House to announce that Iranian hostage thriller “Argo” had won best picture.
The Iranian audience watching the live broadcast was shown the “Iranian redesign” of Michelle’s dress, with the censor made to conform to the country’s restrictions on images of the female body in the media.
Fars, which is affiliated to the Islamic republic's elite Revolutionary Guards, changed the U.S. first lady's dress to stand by rules stipulating that Iranian women shown on Iran's state television should have a hijab that covers their hair, arms and legs.
“The length of the censor's ruler varies for foreigners. A foreign woman travelling inside the Islamic republic should comply with the same restriction on Iranian women, but those shown on TV, such as dignitaries or actors, are tolerated without the hijab, up to a point. Men enjoy relatively more freedom, but only sportsmen are allowed to be shown with bare legs on TV,” the Guardian reported on Monday.
“When Iranian media are obliged to use a picture that contravenes these rules, it is not unusual for Photoshop to come to their rescue,” the report added, noting that the EU's foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton has also fallen victim to similar Photoshop redesigning on Iranian television.State television also said Michelle’s involvement "increases speculation that awarding this movie was politically motivated."Hmmm......They also couldn't cover up the dress' $9,000 price tag, which was worn by the American taxpayer.Read the full story here.

A disgusting segment at Sunday night's Academy awards left two billion people watching with the impression that Jews control Hollywood. It's in the last minute and a half of this clip.

The ADL didn't like it very much and I'm with them on this.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Monday derided as “offensive and not remotely funny” the segment, saying it was “sad and disheartening that the awards show sought to use age-old, anti-Jewish stereotypes for laughs.”

“For the insiders at the Oscars this kind of joke is obviously not taken seriously,” the ADL said in a statement. “But when one considers the global audience of the Oscars of upwards of two billion people, including many who know little or nothing about Hollywood or the falsity of such Jewish stereotypes, there’s a much higher potential for the ‘Jews control Hollywood’ myth to be accepted as fact.”

Indeed. Imagine if they had made the same kind of jokes about blacks or gays or Muslims. No one - not even the Times of Israel - would try to excuse them.
