French Charlie Hebdo launches 'series' about the life of the Prophet Mohammed.Part I - "The beginnings of a prophet."

French Charlie Hebdo launches 'series' about the life of the Prophet Mohammed.Part I - "The beginnings of a prophet."(CharlieHebdo).GoogleTranslate.
Overview.
Who owns Muhammad? He belongs to all. He is the prophet of Muslims, of course, but for others it is a historical figure or a legend. We can caricature draw Muhammad as a caricature of Jesus , Napoleon or Zorro.
When we depict a Muhammad cartoon in Charlie, we caricature mostly the idea that the extremists make of him.Or we use Muhammad to oppose Muslim radicals.
In all cases, it is the vision of God's madmen that determines the way we portray Muhammad.
We must tell the truth we do not know Muhammad.
In the West, everybody can quote episodes from the life of Jesus, but who can quote an episode from the life of Muhammad?
Is this normal in a country like France, where Islam is presented as a second religion?
We have portrayed the life of Muhammad as the Muslims chroniclers have told. No humor added.
If the form will appear blasphemous to some, the bottom is perfectly halal ... For you to see.
Charb.

Update: On Monday a senior political advisor to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan denounced the work as a deliberate provocation. "To transform the life of the prophet of Islam into a cartoon is in itself a mistake," Ibrahim Kalin wrote on his Twitter account. "Whatever the people at Charlie Hebdo say, this is a provocation." Charlie Hebdo has on several occasions published cartoon versions of Islam's prophet in a declared effort to defend free speech, to the fury of many Muslims who believe depicting Prophet Mohammed is sacrilegious. French paper Charlie Hebdo to publish comic book life of Prophet Mohammed.

Charlie Hebdo Cartoon "God Doesn't Excist"
French paper Charlie Hebdo to publish comic book life of Prophet Mohammed.(AA).A French weekly known for publishing cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed to the ire of conservative Muslims said Sunday it plans to release a comic book biography of Islam’s founder that will be researched and educational.
Satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo has on several occasions depicted Islam’s prophet in an effort to defend free speech and defy the anger of Muslims who believe depicting Mohammed is sacrilegious.
“It is a biography authorized by Islam since it was edited by Muslims,” said Charlie Hebdo’s publisher and the comic’s illustrator, who goes by the name Charb.
“I don’t think higher Muslim minds could find anything inappropriate,” Charb said.
The biography will be published Wednesday and was put together by a Franco-Tunisian researcher known only as Zineb, Charb said.
The publisher said the idea for the comic book came to him in 2006 when a newspaper in Denmark published cartoons of Mohammed, later republished by Charlie Hebdo, drawing angry protests across the Muslim world.
Before having a laugh about a character, it’s better to know him. As much as we know about the life of Jesus, we know nothing about Mohammed,” Charb said.
In September Charlie Hebdo published cartoons of a naked Mohammed as violent protests were taking place in several countries over a low-budget film made in the United States that insults the prophet.
In 2011 Charlie Hebdo’s offices were hit by a firebomb and its website pirated after publishing an edition titled “Charia Hebdo” featuring several Mohammed cartoons.
Charb, who has received death threats, lives under police protection.Hmmmm......French Version of 'Death Wish'?Read the full story here.

California judge rules anti-Islam film can stay on YouTube.

California judge rules anti-Islam film can stay on YouTube.(Yahoo).LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - An anti-Islam film trailer that has spawned violent protests across the Muslim world can remain on YouTube despite a request from a California actress to have it taken down, a judge ruled on Thursday. Actress Cindy Lee Garcia had sought to have the film removed in a suit filed on Wednesday against YouTube parent company Google Inc and a California man linked to the film. She argued that she was duped into taking part and had since received death threats.
"The request for a temporary restraining order is denied. The plaintiff has not shown a likelihood to prevail on the merits," Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Luis Lavin said.
A date for a future hearing in the case was not immediately set. Garcia's is the first known civil lawsuit connected to the making of the video that depicts the Prophet Mohammad as a womanizer and a fool. The film helped generate a torrent of violence across the Muslim world last week during the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States and in the following days There were no references made to religion nor was there any sexual content of which Ms. Garcia was aware," read the lawsuit, which accused Nakoula of fraud and slander. For many Muslims, any depiction of the prophet is blasphemous. Caricatures deemed insulting in the past have provoked protests and drawn condemnation from officials, preachers, ordinary Muslims and many Christians. Last week, Google rejected a request by the White House to reconsider its decision to keep the clips on YouTube, but the company has blocked the trailer in certain Muslim countries such as Egypt and Libya. The White House had asked Google to evaluate whether the video violated YouTube's terms of service. Garcia, asked if a longer version of the film exists, told reporters outside court before the hearing that she did not believe the movie was ever finished. "There is no entire movie, there's only that clip," she said.Hmmmm.....The right to freedom of speech is recognized as a human right under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Germany - Offensive Cartoon Has German Christians Fuming.

Germany - Offensive Cartoon Has German Christians Fuming.(Spiegel).Lampooning religion has proven an easy way to get into hot water in recent years. Caricatures poking fun, or outright hostility, at Islam have been especially prone to producing controversy -- or even violence.

Now, however, it is Germany's Christians who find themselves on the receiving end of an indelicate cartoon. Several religious leaders in Kassel, the western German city that is currently hosting the semi-decadal art exhibition Documenta, have protested against a drawing advertising a show in the city's caricature museum.
"I find it problematic when a caricature disparages the very heart of a faith," Barbara Heinrich, a Protestant official in the city, told German news agency DPA. Local Catholic priest Harald Fischer has likewise criticized the caricature, according to the local paper, the Hessische/Niedersächsische Allgemeine (HNA), as have Catholic and Orthodox Christian leaders from the area.
The cartoon in question is hanging outside the Kulturbahnhof, a cultural center which houses the caricature museum, known as Caricatura. It depicts Jesus in agony on the cross as a voice calls down from heaven, "Hey, you. I fucked your mother."Read the full story here.

Far-right group shows Prophet Mohammed cartoon at Berlin mosque.

Far-right group shows Prophet Mohammed cartoon at Berlin mosque.(AA).A far-right group displayed a caricature of the Prophet Mohammed outside a Berlin mosque Saturday amid a heavy police presence, while far-leftists and anti-Nazis staged a counter-demonstration. The protest by some 50 militants of the Pro Deutschland group aimed at Islamist extremists went ahead after a court allowed them to brandish copies of cartoons whose original appearance in Denmark sparked violent reactions across the globe. Islamic law prohibits depictions of the prophet. The administrative court in the German capital rejected Thursday a complaint filed by three mosque congregations “to prevent the citizens’ movement Pro Deutschland from showing so-called Mohammed caricatures in front of their premises.” It said the cartoons were protected as “artistic freedom” and could not legally be considered as abuse of a religious group.
Simply showing the Mohammed cartoons does not qualify as a call to hatred or violence against a specific segment of the population,” the court said. Pro Deutschland activists rallied outside a mosque reputed to be a hotbed of the radical Islamic Salafist community on Saturday carrying a placard reading “Stop Islamisation” as well as the cartoon. They planned to do the same outside two other mosques in the working-class district of Wedding and protest outside squats held by the extreme left on Sunday.Read the full story here.
