Video footage shows five members of the Russian group, dressed in their signature bright colours and head masks, attempting to perform a song under a sign advertising the Sochi games.

At least 10 Cossacks are seen quickly approaching and firing pepper spray at the band members.

When they continue to sing and dance, the Cossacks use horsewhips to strike several of the women and one male supporter.Some were violently unmasked and led away.

Cossacks, who are neither members of the police or the military, have been employed by Russia to maintain order and help patrol the streets in the Krasnodar province, where Sochi is located.The Cossack patrolmen have made no comment on Wednesday's incident.Hmmmm......New definition of 'Pussy whipped'Read and see the full story here.

It’s February, 2013, and I’m in the lobby of Sochi’s Marins Park Hotel, talking with the man responsible for the cultural program at the 2014 Winter Olympics. “I can’t say who will be performing, but I can say one thing – it will be glorious,” he says. 

“In other words, no popsa ,” I specify. For many Russians, popsa (a pejorative word derived from “pop music” and akin to muzak in English) and dignity are incompatible.

Russian pop music is like an atomic bomb – everyone is afraid of it but no one really likes it. The critical difference between Russian pop and the bomb though, is that while an atomic bomb is something you want YOUR country to have, pop music this vile is something that Russians would gladly leave to the West. Unfortunately, this revolting musical kitsch has found its way even to Russia, which has always closely copied its Western neighbors.

Pop music is everywhere – in cars, restaurants and supermarkets. But nobody admits that they actually like it. Like pornography, pop music is something you might enjoy at home but would never let on to the neighbors about (and especially not Mom!). Secretly we love it – it’s a sweet, guilty pleasure. But to let the world know… absolutely not! Better to run naked through Red Square.
It amuses me to think of the people who put together the Olympic setlists: Who will follow whom and so on… Here’s the news that the opening act will be t.A.T.u. – the only band in Russia that has had significant international success, from the U.S. all the way to Japan.
They’re a logical choice, since the world knows t.A.T.u. and many people love them. Plus, singers Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova have always cultivated an image as lesbians, so their turn on the Sochi stage will naturally leave viewers in no doubt whatsoever that Russia is not a homophobic country.Hmmm....my guess they'll upt for the 'Babuska's above. Read and see the 'Other' candidates Here.

The headquarters of the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) is being transferred from Egypt to Turkey, as the new administration that toppled President Mohamed Morsi has limited the movements of the Syrian opposition, according to the coalition’s Turkey representative. 

Many Syrian dissidents are leaving the country, and the main headquarters of the SNC is being moved to Turkey, Khaled Khoja told the Hürriyet Daily News. “Many Syrian opposition figures are leaving Egypt, Mouaz al-Khatib, the former head of the Syrian National Coalition, has plans to settle in Turkey.”

Al-Khatib had resigned in recent months protest at the world’s “inaction” over violence in Syria.

The coup has had a negative effect on the Syrian opposition according to Khoja, who said some of the pro-opposition decisions which were taken during Morsi’s presidency were overturned under the new administration.

“Just a few days before the coup, a meeting on Syria took place in Cairo. Morsi had said they would freeze diplomatic relations with the Bashar al-Assad regime. Right after the coup, this decision was overturned and the new regime said they would upgrade relations with Syria,” Khoja said.

Egyptian Interim Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy said last month that the country continued to support the Syrian uprising but that Cairo had no intention of “waging jihad” in Syria.

Fahmy said Morsi’s decision to cut diplomatic ties with war-torn Syria would be “re-examined,” while stressing that did not mean they would “resume or not resume.”

He said Egypt’s new military rulers had re-imposed a visa regime on Syrians, who used to enjoy visa-free travel even during the times of Hosni Mubarak, who ruled the country for decades before being toppled by a popular uprising two years ago.

Khoja also said a lynch campaign was being conducted against Syrians in Egypt. Hmmm.....If i were Russia i would re instate the Visa duty for Turks before the Sochi Winter olympics start.

Legislation passed in the Russian Duma in June makes it a criminal offense to “spread propaganda of non-traditional relations to minors.” The vague definition of the new law has proved problematic.
Although the legislation does not outlaw homosexuality, gay campaigners in Russia and abroad have speculated that people could be arrested simply for holding hands in a public place where children are present or waving a rainbow flag during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. On Friday, Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) joined the ranks of the confused, saying his organization lacks a “good understanding” of the wording of the law.
“There are still uncertainties and we have asked for more clarification as of today,” Rogge said during a press conference ahead of the Athletics World Championships in Moscow.
“The Olympic charter is clear. A sport is a human right and it should be available to all, regardless of race, sex or sexual orientation,” he added.

Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko - who previously stated that the law will not be suspended for the duration of the Games – tried to simultaneously allay fears and justify the law.
“I want everyone to calm down,” he told the media at the same press conference.
“This legislation is not meant to curtail the rights of citizens from any country, whatever their proclivities. The law is specifically targeted at propaganda to minors. But, although everyone’s rights will be maintained, we will ask visitors to respect the laws of the country where they have arrived.”
Mutko went on to say that the international outrage is a result of “unacceptable political pressure.”
“Russia is getting stronger and some people don’t like that. We are unique country,” he said.

Earlier this week, US President Barack Obama strongly condemned Russia’s legislation in a TV interview.
“I have no patience for countries that try to treat gays or lesbians or transgender persons in ways that intimidate them or are harmful to them,” Obama said when asked about the subject on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
British actor Stephen Fry has sent an open letter to Rogge in which he compared Russia’s actions to those of the Nazis and asked for the games to be relocated. An online petition to move the Winter Olympics to Vancouver - which hosted the Games in 2010 - has garnered more than 130,000 signatures.
So far, the IOC has batted off such calls, and Rogge said on Friday that he did not believe the law to be a “significant issue.”
The US has also explicitly announced that it is not contemplating a boycott.
"It is in Russia's interest to guarantee the Olympics' success and we expect them to take all necessary measures for that,” White House spokesman Jay Carney told the media.
No country has refused to participate in an Olympic Games since North Korea led a boycott of the Seoul Olympics in 1988.
