A group of ultra nationalist Turkish protesters put bags over the heads of three men who are allegedly among the military staff of a US war ship currently docked in İstanbul, in a reference to a 2003 incident in which Turkish soldiers were captured by US forces in Iraq and had bags put over their heads.
According to the ultranationalist TV network Ulusal Kanal, a group of Turkish Youth Union (TGB) members staged a demonstration in İstanbul's Eminönü neighborhood on Tuesday to protest the docking of the US Navy's Arleigh Burke class destroyer USS ROSS (DDG 71) in İstanbul for four days after a NATO drill in the Black Sea.
The network claimed that the protesters shouted slogans like “Yankees Go Home” and “Damn America” and that they put bags over the heads of three men who the group claimed were US sailors.
“You have just said that you are members of the US Navy. We label you as murderers. We want you to leave our soil and we use our right to protest you,” the group was quoted as saying
