Turkmens deny MIT Aid truck destination, say no aid from 'Sometimes NATO Ally' Turkey. (Taz).
Following ensuing debates over a Turkish newspaper's publication of video footage showing a shipment of arms on a Syria-bound truck, Syrian Turkmens have challenged the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government's claims that the weapons were destined for the embattled Turkmen community, saying that they received no aid from Ankara, being left alone in the onslaught of the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) in northern Syria.
"Those trucks were not delivering aid to Turkmens. Everybody knows that. If you really cared about Turkmens, why did you let them down when they were brutally massacred by ISIL in Çobanbey, [a Turkmen village], located near the border, very close to a Turkish military base?” a representative from the Turkmen community stated to Today's Zaman, rejecting outright the AK Party's version of events.
"We fought ISIL outgunned and outmanned in dire conditions. Why didn't they help us? Unfortunatelly, Turkmens have no place on Turkey's agenda," the same representative said, in apparent dismay. In his opinion, Turkey has turned a blind eye to the ongoing agony and anguish of Turkmens, displaced after ISIL swept through towns and villages bordering Turkey last year.
What most baffled the Turkmen community, he said, is that Turkey allows ISIL militants to cross into Syria, a process that only worsens the dispossession and dislocation of the Turkmen community in the North, as the militants have killed Turkmens en masse.
"There is no need to hide that. The majority of the ISIL militants who have killed Turkmens were allowed to cross the Turkey-Syria border. We sometimes really wonder whether Turkey acts with us or against us," he said. Hmmm....As i already pointed out last week :) Read the full story here.
