Islamist Turkey - 107 women murdered in first 100 days of 2017.

Islamist Turkey - 2017 balance: 107 women slaughtered in 100 days. HT: washingtonhatti.

94 women had lost their lives to male violence in the previous year, Turkish press reported. This year, the number has gone up to 107 in the same period.

According to the media research conducted by Ajans Press, there were 4 thousand 90 news stories in the media about violence towards and the murder of women in the first hundred days of 2016.
In the first hundred days of 2017, the number of news stories was determined to be 2 thousand 44.

The low number of news stories compared to last year despite the rise in murders has raised some questions

Some interesting details surfaced in the stories that did make it to the news. Five of the murdered women lost their lives even though there was a protection order for them.

When province-based statistics were computed, it became apparent that Istanbul was the lead in the murders of women.

According to the “We Will Stop Women Murders Platform” (“Kadın Cinayetlerini Durduracağız Platformu”); there were 18 murders in Istanbul, followed by Izmir (11), Bursa (9), Antalya (8) and Balıkesir (6). Read the full story here.

As a certain Islamist party grew so did the number of women murders.

TWELVE! Twelve year old girl forced to withdraw from chess tournament because her dress was too 'seductive'.

TWELVE! Twelve year old girl forced to withdraw from chess tournament because her dress was too 'seductive'.(ET).

A 12-year-old girl in Malaysia was forced to withdraw from a chess tournament because officials thought her dress was too ‘seductive’.

In the middle of Round 2, without stopping the clocks, the chief arbiter informed my student that the dress she wore was improper,” Kaushal wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday night.

The event’s chief arbiter told the girl and her mother that the dress was a “temptation from a certain angle far, far away.”

The director informed them that they needed to go to the mall to buy a pair of trousers for the next round. The shops in the area were closed and would not be open in time for the next round which resumed at 9 am.

The 12-year-old’s mother tried calling the tournament director who told her that he would call her back after discussing the incident with the arbiter. This did not happen, however.

He wouldn’t answer or return any calls from my student’s mother. This situation led to the inevitable decision to withdraw her from the tournament altogether,” said Kaushal.

“This incident has resulted in loss of time and money which was invested before, during and after the tournament on coaching, registration fees, travelling, accommodation and other incurred costs,” he added.

Kaushal described the girl as a “bright young girl” who shows “tremendous potential in chess”.

“My daughter was shocked after her game was interrupted by the chief arbiter,” Chin Wai Lings, the girl’s mother. told The Star Online. “From that point onwards, all she [her daughter] could think of was whether anyone was peeping [at her] throughout the game,” she added.

Many people also took to Twitter to express outrage over how a 12-year-old’s dress could be considered ‘seductive’. Read the full story here.

The girl’s coach Kaushal Khandhar detailed on Facebook the “disturbing incident”, stating that his student felt “harassed and humiliated by the actions of the Tournament Director and Chief Arbiter”.

DEAR MALAYSIAN CHESS COMMUNITY,

I heard the most disturbing incident from one of my student’s mother.

At the National Scholastic Chess Championship 2017, in Putrajaya, one of my student, who is a 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL felt harassed and humiliated by the actions of Tournament Director and Chief Arbiter.

In the middle of Round 2, (without stopping the clocks) Chief Arbiter informs my student that the dress she wore was improper and have violated the dress code of the tournament.

It was later informed (by Chief Arbiter) to my student and her mother, that the Tournament Director deemed my student’s dress to be “seductive” and a “temptation from a certain angle far, far away”.
We found this statement completely out of line!

Please see attached photo of what she was wearing! (Picture above)Completely ridiculous!

After some discussion, Chief Arbiter had conceded and apologised to my student, personally assuring her that there was nothing wrong with her attire, but due to Tournament Director’s decision, he could not allow this dress to be worn by my student in the tournament. This discussion happened at around 10pm and Chief Arbiter gave them a choice to go to the mall nearby to buy a long slack for the next day 9.00am round.

Due to the timing of this incident, it was impossible to get another attire in time for the 9.00am round next day, as all shops were already closed and wouldn’t be open in time.

Before the morning round next day, my student’s mother called Tournament Director regarding this matter, initially he had replied that he was not aware of the situation but after a brief discussion, it was realized that he knew all the details on this incident prior to this phone call. He promised to return the call upon discussion with Chief Arbiter, but this did not happen. He would further not answer or return any calls of my student’s mother.

This situation had led to the inevitable decision of withdrawal from the tournament all together.
We are absolutely DIGUSTED by the treatment of Tournament Director to a 12-year-old girl and her mother. This incident has resulted in loss of time and money which was invested before, during and after the tournament on coaching, registration fees, travelling, accommodation and other incurred cost.

This bright young girl was recently the champion of her district in MSS Kuala Lumpur and has shown tremendous potential in Chess. This incident has left her extremely disturbed, and embarrassed.

I have been playing chess in Malaysia for almost 2 decades and I have never heard this type of issue ever in any tournaments in Malaysia. This should be the first and last time this kind of issue ever appears, I or anyone of us should never accept this in our Chess Community.

We demand a public apology from Tournament Director of National Scholastic Chess Championship 2017. In the event, we do not receive a public apology in the next 5 days, we shall have no choice but to resort to legal proceedings.

Regards,
Kaushal Khandhar
A Malaysian Chess Player & Coach.

Hmmmm....Bunch of peeping Toms, A disgrace to humanity.

Sweden - Islamic 'morality police' in Stockholm forcing girls to the back of school bus.

Sweden - Islamic 'morality police' in Stockholm forcing girls to the back of school bus.(Niewstpo).[Google translated].

Women attacked during Ramadan for too "short skirts" and drinking wine.

In the northern parts of Stockholm iis not to well with the freedom of girls and women. They are being harassed on the streets by boys and men physically attacked for wearing 'too short' skirts, walk their dog or simply because they are single. Further down the ladies must be seated separate in some cafes and girls should sit back school buses as the front space is reserved for boys.

The report on these conditions will be broadcast tonight on the program "Cold Facts" from TV4, writes Aftonbladet. According to TV4, which worked with hidden cameras, there is a self-appointed morality police. Which ensures that in the north of the Swedish capital "schoolgirls remain encapsulated in a culture consisting of honor, insults and gossip," the transmitter.

In the images shown include how students of the Islamic Al Azhar school in the morning and afternoon are separated on the bus. The rector of the educational institution will not respond to the secret recordings. Devin Rexvid, a researcher who works for the University of Umea, compares the situation to racial segregation in the US in the 50s.

One of the women interviewed recounts how she was once approached by neighbors because she drank wine on her balcony. "At one point, a group of young men met outside my house. They shouted threats and climbed up the drainpipe towards my balcony. "

Another woman, who is a former refugee, TV4 tells how she was harassed during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, when she wore a short skirt. "People threatened me and threw stones at me. One shattered the window of my kitchen. I fled to Sweden from a country where women were oppressed, "according to the the victim," but now I'm here in an area which is very similar to my homeland. "

German refugee shelters facing Sexual Assault and hate crime problem.

'I Can Hardly Breathe Here': German Refugee Shelters Face Sexual Assault Problem. (Spiegel).

Cases of sexual assault in German refugee shelters are on the rise, with women and children facing the greatest danger. Despite pleas for help from the government, Chancellor Angela Merkel's coalition has done little to offer additional protections.

Chancellor Angela Merkel's governing coalition is failing to provide protection to exactly those people who need it most: women, children and minorities who have fled their homes.

The government's commissioner responsible for the issue of sexual violence against children, Johannes-Wilhelm Rörig, is currently dealing with 40 cases of sexual assault on children inside refugee hostels in recent months, including cases of rape and even genital mutilation performed on a small girl.

The number of unreported cases, Rörig fears, is likely much higher: He says that many refugees are afraid of approaching the authorities due to worries that doing so may adversely affect their asylum applications. "How many cases are still needed before something changes?" he asks. "Fifty? One hundred? A thousand?"

Back in 2013, the EU issued a directive to member states requiring them to "take into consideration gender and age-specific concerns and the situation of vulnerable persons in relation to applicants within the premises and accommodation centers." The directive also specifically mentioned "appropriate measures to prevent assault and gender-based violence" in addition to access to "psychological treatment or care." Thus far, however, the German government has been ignoring the directive.

It's not entirely for lack of trying. Last fall, the Family Ministry in Berlin proposed the inclusion of protections for women, children and minorities in a draft law addressing refugees and asylum-seekers in Germany. But the Interior Ministry, under the leadership of Thomas de Maizière, a member of Merkel's Christian Democrats, removed the passage prior to the law's approval early this year.

The passage was allegedly struck so as to save German states from extra work. But Interior Ministry sources say the real reason was to discourage further refugees from coming by way of more restrictive asylum policies.

In addition to women, minorities are also the victims of attacks. Boris Fadeyev relates how several men stormed into his room in a Berlin refugee hostel three months ago. One of them yelled: "Do you smell that? It stinks like shit here, you fag!" Read the full story here.

Turkish Pres wife says harem was 'school' for women.

SOURCE

Turkish Pres wife says harem was 'school' for women. (Yahoo).

The wife of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday hailed the harem of the Ottoman sultans as "a school for preparing women for life".

Emine Erdogan's comments come a day after the president triggered protests by saying he believed that "a woman is above all a mother" in a speech marking International Women's Day.

Critics have accused Erdogan's government of trying to impose strict Islamic values on Turkey and curtailing women's civil liberties.

"The harem was a school for members of the Ottoman dynasty and an educational establishment for preparing women for life," Emine Erdogan said at an official event on the Ottoman sultans in Ankara, according to Turkish TV stations.

President Erdogan has come under fire in the past for urging Turkish women to have at least three children and railing against efforts to promote birth control as "treason".

He and his wife regularly speak of their attachment to Islamic principles and the values of the old Ottoman empire, from the ruins of which the modern Turkish state was founded in 1923.

While the term "harem" has long titillated the Western imagination, in the Ottoman period it was an institution with very strict, detailed rules, which even the sultan had to follow, and precise guidelines on the recruitment and education of courtesans.

Each woman would receive an education in whichever discipline she showed the most promise -- for example calligraphy, decorative arts, music or foreign languages.

There was no age limit for the harem and women of 60 could live along side young girls, while the most capable could rise to wield enormous influence over the court.

But a day after her husband's comments drew thousands of women into the streets of Istanbul in protest, Emine Erdogan's remarks came under fire on social media.

Ozlem Kurumlar, a professor at an Istanbul university, tweeted: "In the time of Murad III (a 16th century sultan), books were the only thing that never entered the harem." Hmmm.....I'm sure she regrets not being able to send her daughters to that 'School'.

08 March 'International Women's day': Erdogan offers 'Islamist'‘Turkish-style’ women’s rights.

08 March 'International Women's day': Erdogan offers 'Islamist'‘Turkish-style’ women’s rights. (HU).

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has declared the country should develop its own unique values of gender equality, finding inspiration from his will to have a new constitution which will pave the way for an authentic “Turkish-style” presidential system.

Those who impose their understandings on this nation are the enemy of both our women and our people. This issue is not a matter of lifestyle,” Erdoğan said on March 7, while delivering a speech at an event held by the Confederation of Righteous Trade Unions (Hak-İş) on the occasion of March 8, International Women’s Day.

“On the contrary, this issue is an issue for our country’s and our nation’s future. We had that saying, ‘Turkish-style presidential system, Turkish-style constitution.’ On this issue [women’s rights] too, we are obliged to develop a Turkish-style model and implement it. We don’t necessarily have to express, defend and implement women’s rights in the format and style that exists in the West,” Erdoğan said.

“We can all together take steps to strengthen the presence of women as human beings and as individuals in the light of our history and cultural background, by correcting mistakes and by eliminating shortages. Believe me, this way it will be much more effective. If the defense of women’s rights had existed in the West in the literal sense, then they would not have remained silent about the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Syrian women along with their children,” he said. Hmmm.......Keep Turkey out of Europe.

Pakistan Religious Body Denounces new law that criminalizes violence against women as un-Islamic.

Pakistan Religious Body Denounces new law that criminalizes violence against women as un-Islamic. (ET).

Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) that advises the government on the compatibility of laws with Islam on Thursday declared a new law that criminalises violence against women to be “un-Islamic.”

The Women’s Protection Act, passed in Punjab Assembly last week, gives unprecedented legal protection to women from domestic, psychological and sexual violence. It also calls for the creation of a toll-free abuse reporting hot line and the establishment of women’s shelters.

But since its passage in the assembly, many conservative clerics and religious leaders have denounced the new law as being in conflict with the Quran, as well as the constitution.

“The whole law is wrong,” Muhammad Khan Sherani, the head of CII said at a news conference, citing verses from the Quran to point out that the law was “un-Islamic.”

The 54-year-old council is known for its controversial decisions. In the past it has ruled that DNA cannot be used as primary evidence in rape cases, and it supported a law that requires women alleging rape to get four male witnesses to testify in court before a case is heard.

The council’s decision this January to block a bill to impose harsher penalties for marrying off girls as young as eight or nine has angered human rights activists.

The new law establishes district-level panels to investigate reports of abuse, and mandates the use of GPS bracelets to keep track of offenders.

It also sets punishments of up to a year in jail for violators of court orders related to domestic violence, with that period rising to two years for repeat offenders.

Fazlur Rehman, the chief of one of Pakistan’s largest religious parties, the Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam, said the law was in conflict with both Islam and the constitution of Pakistan.

This law makes a man insecure,” he told journalists. “This law is an attempt to make Pakistan a Western colony again.” Hmmm.....Women human rights and Islam. Read the full story here.

EU Values? 38 pct of women in Turkey exposed to domestic violence - Report

EU Values? 38 pct of women in Turkey exposed to domestic violence - Report. (TZ).

109 women killed in southeast in 2015.

Thirty-eight percent of women in Turkey have been subjected to physical or sexual domestic violence at least once in their lives, a report drafted by the Ministry of Family and Social Policy in cooperation with Hacettepe University has shown.

The report, titled “Domestic Violence against Women in Turkey,” was prepared as a result of face-to-face interviews with more than 15,000 women and involves data on domestic violence incidents from 2014 and 2015.

A total of 36 percent of women have been subjected to physical violence, while another 12 percent of them have been exposed to sexual violence, the report states.

Among the women who are subjected to domestic violence in Turkey, 27 percent of them are exposed to both physical and sexual violence.

According to the report, 25 percent of female high school graduates and 20 percent of women who have college or higher degrees become victims of physical or sexual domestic violence.

Additionally, 25 percent of women are subjected to economic abuse, which means that their husbands do not allow them to work and provide economic support to the family.

The report states that getting divorced or living in separate houses does not solve the domestic violence problem of women in Turkey. Even the 75 percent of women who are divorced or not sharing a home with their husbands continue to be exposed to violence by them. Read the full story here.

Iran ranks among lowest in world for gender equality.

Iran ranks among lowest in world for gender equality.(NCRI).

NCRI - Iran under the rule of the clerical regime ranked 141th in gender equality among 145 countries according to a recently published international survey.

The classification presented in the latest report by the World Economic Forum was released last week.

Iceland is on to the top position for the seventh consecutive year. Other Nordic countries – Finland, Sweden and Norway – fill out the top four.

Iran under the rule of clerical regime is placed at the bottom of the list in 141th place.

In the report of last year, Iran was placed 137th among the 145 countries assessed.

This classification is carried out through assessments made on several criteria: opportunities for women to participate in economic activities, women's access to education, women's access to health and medical care and women's access to political office.  Hmmm......Doesn't bother EU parliamentarians or the Obama admin.

Obama 'Admin' State Dep’t: ‘We Would Welcome’ Saudi Leadership Role at UN Rights Council

Obama 'Admin' State Dep’t: ‘We Would Welcome’ Saudi Leadership Role at UN Rights Council. (CNS).

State Department spokesman Mark Toner said Tuesday that the administration would “welcome” Saudi Arabia’s appointment to a leadership position at the U.N. Human Rights Council, saying that the U.S. and the kingdom were “close allies.”

We hope that it’s an occasion for them to, you know, to look at human rights around the world but also within their own borders,” he said in response to a question about the appropriateness of the kingdom holding a leadership post.

Asked whether he thought it was “appropriate for them to have a leadership position,” Toner said, “We have a strong dialogue, obviously a partnership with Saudi Arabia that spans, obviously, many issues. We talk about human rights concerns with them. You know, as to this leadership role, we hope that it’s an occasion for them to, you know, to look at human rights around the world but also within their own borders.

“But you said that you welcome them in this position,” another reporter said. “Is it based on improved record? I mean, can you show or point to anything where there is you know, a sort of stark improvement in their human rights record?

Saudi Arabia's appointment to chair the HRC panel was brought to public attention this week by the Geneva-based non-governmental organization U.N. Watch. It brought strong criticism from observers who said that with its poor human rights record Saudi Arabia should not even be a member of the 47-member HRC, let alone hold a leadership post.

U.N. Watch executive director Hillel Neuer called on U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power and European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini to reverse the appointment.

Repressive regimes have long used their membership on the U.N.’s top human rights watchdog to defend each other, block scrutiny of their own records, and promote agenda items that focus on favored targets like Israel.

Their presence on the council frustrates democracies, but U.N. rules do not disqualify any country from standing for election. They generally have no competition, as regional groups put forward “closed slates” of candidates – the same number of candidates as there are vacancies.

With no mandatory qualification for members and with voting taking place at the U.N. General Assembly by secret ballot, countries with poor records (AND MONEY*) continue to win seats.

Meanwhile in other reaction to Saudi Arabia’s appointment to chair the HRC panel, the press freedom group Reporters Without Borders called the move “grotesque.”

Saudi Arabia is ranked 164th out of 180 countries in the 2015 Reporters Without Borders press freedom index,” said Alexandra El Khazen, head of the group’s Middle East desk. “How could anyone image Riyadh making a significant contribution to the fight against human rights violations throughout the world?

A grouping of liberal members of the European Parliament also slammed the decision.

U.N. Watch earlier launched a petition calling on the U.N. to remove Saudi Arabia from the council. Hmmm.......'The future does not belong to those who slander the prophet' Read the full story here.

Video - With red lipstick, a Female Indian acid attack victim makes a bold statement.

With red lipstick, a Female Indian acid attack victim makes a bold statement. (ET).

In her peppy and helpful online video tutorial, Reshma Bano Qureshi promises to teach her viewers “how to get perfect red lips.”

But unlike the more than 200,000 other online videos dedicated to the application of lipstick, this one goes beyond plumping and priming.

After sharing her cosmetic tips, Ms Qureshi, 18, talks about her far more striking facial features. She is missing her left eye, and her skin is badly scarred from an attack in Northern India last year by her estranged brother-in-law and a group of men who held her down and poured sulfuric acid on her face. Her brother-in-law was arrested after the attack, but her family has said that two of his accomplices were never caught.

In her video, Ms Qureshi explains that it is as easy for attackers to buy concentrated acid at a market as it is for her to buy a tube of lipstick — and sometimes, it is cheaper. The video, one of several produced by the group Make Love Not Scars, has garnered more than 900,000 views and led to the hashtag #EndAcidSale.

Bharat Nayak, a representative for Make Love Not Scars, said in an email that bending traditional norms of female beauty was a powerful tactic intended to bring attention to persistent attacks against women in India despite efforts to limit the sale of acid used in many attacks.
In addition to the videos produced by Make Love Not Scars, online activists are appropriating the tactics used by beauty industry marketers to draw attention to survivors. Supporters on social media have posted “faceless selfies” to help raise funds for survivors, and others have circulated a photo calendar online.

Rahul Saharan, a photographer in New Delhi who worked on the calendar, said the project was meant to empower survivors, who often feel isolated and stigmatised. In the calendar, one woman poses in a lab coat, holding a sign that says, “I wanted to be a doctor.” Other victims are photographed standing in a chef’s kitchen, sitting in front of a microphone and holding a book. “The calendar is basically shot on their dreams that they had before their attack,” he said. Hmmm......I salute their courage and determination. Read the full story here.
