The ruling Justice and Development Party MP Zelkif Kazdal stands for the abolition of certain powers of the Turkish Constitutional Court, the Turkish news agency Anadolu reported on April 12.

"The Constitutional Court must be deprived of certain powers on repealing the adopted laws.

Kazdal stressed that if the Constitutional Court makes a decision that the law passed by the parliament contradicts the country's public interests, the court must appeal to the parliament with a requirement to amend the law, rather than repeal it.

The Turkish Constitutional Court repealed the Justice Ministry's powers over the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors. This led to the discontent in the ruling party.

The Turkish Constitutional Court was established in 1961. The members of the Constitutional Court are appointed by the country's parliament.

The high council was established in 1981. Its powers included training, assignment and dismissal of judges and prosecutors, and appointment of prosecutors and judges for the trials.
