FINANCIAL TIMES - U.S. Rules Out Military Ties With Iran

One senior Iranian government adviser told the Financial Times: “The US has no choice but to clear up this mess in Iraq, otherwise its achievements and credibility in the region would be gone. The US should help remove this infection [Sunni extremists] from the region.”

The limits of any potential dialogue, however, were underlined by more critical statements by other Iranian leaders. Amir Abdollahian, a deputy foreign minister for Arab affairs who is believed to be close to the country’s Revolutionary Guards, said on Monday that “we do not see any need to co-operate with the US” over Iraq and that there would be no such talks on the sidelines of the nuclear negotiations in Vienna.

Ali Khoshroo, former deputy Iranian foreign minister, said that if any regional country had helped the insurgency it should be held accountable – a clear reference to Saudi Arabia.

The US cannot sit idly and watch now terrorists that it kicked out are back and want to rule Iraq with swords,” Mr Khoshroo said. “All neighbours of Iraq and members of the Security Council – rather than only Iran and US – should work together to find a solution to this phenomenon, which is endangering the world security.”

Damascus-ordered SyAAF airstrikes against ISIL /ISIS targets in Syria, in display of solidarity with Baghdad.According to AFP:
Syria's army has been pounding for 24 hours major bases of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham in coordination with the Baghdad government, a monitor said Sunday.
The strikes against ISIS -- which has spearheaded a week-long jihadist offensive in Iraq -- have been more intense than ever, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
"The regime air force has been pounding ISIS's bases, including those in the northern province of Raqa and Hasakeh in the northeast," which borders Iraq, said the Britain-based group.
The regime of President Bashar al-Assad was responding to the fact that ISIS "brought into Syria heavy weapons including tanks" captured from the Iraqi army.

To secure the release of diplomats, their families, dozens of special forces and truck drivers, Erdogan met three times with Yasin al-Qadi, who has close relationship with ISIS and financed many of its activities.

Turkey funneled huge sums of money to ISIS for the captives but the ISIS refused to set them free. Fearing that the government’s troubled and embarrassing ties with ISIS and other al-Qaeda inspired groups would be revealed, Erdogan asked Turkish media “not to write, draw and speak much” about the hostage crisis. He would like to see complete censorship on debates over the ISIS among Turks. His foreign minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, who complained about reports that showed there is chaos in Iraq, also issued a stark warning to the Turkish media.

Although the Turkish government is authorized by the Parliament to strike Iraq, Washington is now holding talks with its arch foe Iran, not NATO ally Turkey, to contain advancing radical militants. U.S. President Barack Obama, who earlier listed Erdogan as his good friend, refuses to discuss important matters with the prime minister. Erdogan may desperately try to cover obvious facts today, but his dirty laundry will be aired one day.Read the full story here.
