U.S. Olympians Told To Ditch The Cowboy Hats In Favor Of . . . 'Hugo Shavez Look'.
U.S. Olympians Told To Ditch The Cowboy Hats In Favor Of . . . 'Hugo Shavez Look'.(NYP) — Our Olympic heroes will be headed off to London this month — looking as if they’re decked out for a Hamptons lawn party. Ralph Lauren yesterday unveiled the preppy parade uniforms that Team USA members will wear at the July 27 opening ceremony, stirring an uproar over pricey duds fit for a regatta. The outfits include blue blazers, cream-colored trousers, white skirts — and berets. “2012 US Olympic team is wearing berets. Really? America?” tweeted John Lee Rudnicki, a Los Angeles entertainment lawyer. “How many people in the US have you ever seen wear a beret? Five?” “What the France?” tweeted Greg “Hollea” Rachal, a political activist and former Jacksonville, Fla., City Council candidate. The company said the outfits embody “the spirit of American athleticism and sportsmanship.”Hmmmm.........."CHANGE"..........Can't wait to see the First Lady applaud these guys in London.Read the story here.

UAE female weightlifter Khadija Mohamed became the country’s third female to be chosen for the UAE Olympic team.(TN).DUBAI // Khadija Mohammed will become only the third woman to represent the UAE at the Olympic Games after being nominated for the country's lone qualifying spot in weightlifting.Khadija's participation at the London Olympics was confirmed yesterday by the National Olympic Committee, who announced the names of six of the 32 athletes who are expected to represent the country at the 2012 Games. The UAE won a qualifying spot in the women's weightlifting competition after their team of Khadija, Yasmin Abbas, Alanood Faraj, Latifa Al Marri, Alia Al Balooshi and Abeer Faraj finished fifth at the Asian Championships in South Korea last month. "We are extremely proud of this historic achievement," Sheikh Sultan bin Mejren, the president of the UAE Weightlifting Federation, told reporters at the time. "It's such a massive achievement considering how young they are and the fact that women were only introduced to this sport in our country three years ago. We were placed fifth among 15 countries … teams who have been in the sport for 20 or 30 years. We earned one individual spot, but we earned it as a result of the collective effort of a team." Khadija had the best result in South Korea, lifting 50kg in the snatch and 60kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 110kg, which helped her finish seventh in the 75-kilogram class. She will follow two Emirati women who competed in the Beijing Games four years ago: Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed in women's under-67kg taekwondo competition, and Sheikha Latifa bint Ahmed in individual showjumping. The other athletes confirmed yesterday for London included Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum (skeet), Sheikh Juma bin Dalmook (double trap) and Dhaher Al Eryani (trap), who will take part in the shooting events after qualifying through the Asian championships. Also, Mubarak Salem Al Beshir and Humaid Al Derei have received wild cards for the swimming and judo competitions, respectively.Read the full story here.

"The War On Terror Is Over" - Pakistan militants vow holy war for Bin Laden.
"The War On Terror Is Over" - Pakistan militants vow holy war for Bin Laden.(AA).Militants in Pakistan’s North Waziristan on Tuesday distributed pamphlets pledging holy war to mark the first anniversary of the killing of Osama bin Laden, albeit a week late. Masked militants armed with assault rifles handed out copies of the pamphlet from pick-up vehicles in Miranshah, the main town of the tribal district that has become known as Pakistan’s premier al-Qaeda and Taliban hub. “Let us pledge today that we will continue our jihad (holy war) and sacrifice our lives and property in the way of Allah like Sheikh Osama did,” it said, unsigned and dated May 2, the anniversary of the al-Qaeda leader’s killing by U.S. troops. “Today, a year since Sheikh Osama bin Laden embraced martyrdom, the enemy America is repenting. It is facing defeat and Pakistan’s future is also bleak,” it said. The pamphlet distribution followed two days of rare fighting between troops and Islamist militants in Miranshah that killed 19 soldiers and civilians, officials said. Gunbattles in North Waziristan are relatively rare because of an agreement between insurgents and the military not to attack each other. Pakistan has resisted U.S. pressure to conduct a major offensive in the district, saying it is too overstretched fighting homegrown insurgents elsewhere in the tribal belt. Bin Laden was killed on May 2 2011 in a secret U.S. Navy SEAL operation in a walled-off compound in the Pakistani garrison town of Abbottabad. Pakistan went on high alert last week over fears of revenge attacks, but the anniversary passed off peacefully.Hmmmm......Hamza Bin Laden....2012 Summer Olympics.....What's the odds?Any bets?Read the full story here.
