Experts: Uranium-238 confiscated in Georgia was intended for buyers abroad.

Experts: Uranium-238 confiscated in Georgia was intended for buyers abroad. HT: Caucasianknot.

Georgia has no structures, which could buy smuggled radioactive materials, said the experts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot". Terrorist groupings from Middle East can try to get uranium, said Shota Utiashvili, the former head of the information-analytical department of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

As noted by Irakli Aladashvili, a military expert, the confiscated uranium is not fit even for making a "dirty" atomic bomb, because of low level of radiation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 18 the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) reported about a detention of six persons, three Georgian citizens and three – Armenian ones. According to special services, they tried to sell radioactive uranium-238 for 200 million US dollars. A container with the radioactive material was found in the house of one of the detainees.

Shota Utiashvili has noted that citizens attempting to transport radioactive materials abroad are periodically detained in Georgia.

He did not rule out that "someone is trying to set up a supply chain to third countries."

According to Irakli Aladashvili, the editor of the military magazine "Arsenali", a part of the above radioactive material originated from Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and another part – from Armenia. He suggested that the container could be obtained from the Armenian NPP in Metsamor.

Uranium-238 cannot be used for making an explosive, due to its physical and chemical properties, said Alexander Koldobskiy, the Deputy Director for Quality of the Institute of International Relations of the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (known as MIFI).

How US training helped shape Islamic State’s top military commander Abu Omar al-Shishani.

How US training helped shape Islamic State’s top military commander Abu Omar al-Shishani.(StarandStripes).

Abu Omar al-Shishani, as he’s now known, had been born Tarkhan Batirashvili 27 years earlier in Georgia’s Pankisi Gorge, a tiny enclave of ethnic Chechens, known locally as Kists, whose roughly 10,000 residents represent virtually all of the Muslims in predominantly Orthodox Christian Georgia.

But analysts of extremist groups said Batirashvili’s impact has been far greater than the small numbers of Muslims in Georgia would suggest. Since he swore allegiance to the Islamic State in 2013, thousands of Muslims from the Caucasus have flocked to Syria to join the extremist cause.

More than anything else, Batirashvili has legitimized ISIS in the Caucasus by the power of his exploits, which is amplified by slick ISIS propaganda,” said Michael Cecire, an analyst of extremism for the Philadelphia-based Foreign Policy Research Institute.

Batirashvili’s battlefield successes, including orchestrating the capture of Syria’s Menagh Air Base after two years of failed attempts, “helped to legitimize ISIS in militant circles, including in the North Caucasus,” Cecire said.

In the North Caucasus, young people no longer wanted to fight in Syria with the increasingly marginalized Caucasus Emirate (groups), but wanted to fight with the winners — ISIS.”

We trained him well, and we had lots of help from America,” said a former Georgian defense official who asked to not be identified because of the sensitivity of Batirashvili’s role in the Islamic State. “In fact, the only reason he didn’t go to Iraq to fight alongside America was that we needed his skills here in Georgia.”

Batirashvili’s mother was Chechen, and his father has told local journalists that young Batirashvili had seen a handful of military operations as a rebel in Chechnya before joining Georgia’s military in 2006 at age 20.

According to Batirashvili’s ex-comrades in the Georgian military, Batirashvili was tapped immediately upon his enlistment to join Georgia’s U.S.-trained special forces.

“He was a perfect soldier from his first days, and everyone knew he was a star,” said one former comrade, who asked not to be identified because he remains on active duty and has been ordered not to give media interviews about his former colleague. “We were well-trained by American special forces units, and he was the star pupil.”

Traveling to Turkey, even before the Syrian civil war, wouldn’t have been an unusual choice. Istanbul had been a destination for Chechen jihadists and gangsters for years. With Turkish roots, Chechens were welcome in Istanbul, able to disappear easily among the ethnic Chechens living in Turkey’s largest city.Read the full story here. More on him here.

Videos - Tbilisi flood: 'Seven people dead' and zoo animals on loose & Dead in city after freak storm. (Source).

At least eight people died and several are missing as a result of flooding in Tbilisi overnight on Sunday, officials say.

Heavy rainfall, which started before midnight, turned normally small stream, Vere, which runs in the Tbilisi center across Vake and Saburtalo districts, into a raging river.

A large and fast-moving stream of Vere flooded significant portions of a 4-km highway, linking Vake-Saburtalo road to Hero’s Square; it swept cars, at least one small house and flooded many others.

The river also flooded Tbilisi zoo. Animals, among them tigers, lions, bears and wolves escaped from the flooded zoo. Some of them were either captured or killed, but search of remaining escaped animals was still ongoing early on Sunday morning.

Two employees of the zoo are among the fatalities.

Parts of the right embankment of Riva Mtkvari has also been flooded.

“The damage is substantial,” said PM Irakli Garibashvili. He also called on the people to stay home as search of animals, which escaped from the flooded zoo, was still ongoing. More pictures can be seen here. Read the full story here.

Russian Inspectors Begin Surveillance Flight Over the U.S. territory from the Travis Air Force Base, located in California.

Russian Inspectors Begin Surveillance Flight Over the U.S. territory from the Travis Air Force Base, located in California.(RN).A group of Russian military observers begin on Sunday a nine-day inspection mission in the skies of the United States under the Open Skies Treaty. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russia’s Tupolev Tu-154 LK-1 will take off on Sunday from the Travis Air Force Base, located in California, while the maximum range of the flight will total 4,250 kilometers (2,640 miles). “Russian and U.S. experts on board the plane will monitor the implementation of agreements on the use of technical equipment for the observation,” the ministry said in a statement earlier this week. The Open Skies Treaty, signed in 1992 at the initiative of U.S. President George H.W. Bush, established a regime of unarmed aerial observation flights over the territories of its 34 member states to promote openness and the transparency of military forces and activities. The treaty entered into force on January 1, 2002 and its regime covers the national territories (land, islands, and internal and territorial waters) of all the treaty signatory states. It is an important element of the European security structure. Meanwhile Tbilisi’s decision to pull out from the Open Skies Treaty vis-à-vis Moscow sets “a dangerous precedent”, which may even lead to “collapse” of the entire treaty, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a statement on April 16.Georgia announced in early April that it was ceasing its obligations under the treaty only vis-à-vis Russia.Georgia cited Russia’s decision to impose restriction on observation flight path as the reason behind its decision to pull out from the treaty vis-à-vis Russia.
The Treaty does not envisage possibility of an arbitrary, discriminatory restriction of right of any participating state. The Georgian side’s action, however leads to violation of the Russian Federation’s rights and creates a dangerous precedent, which, combined with uneasy situation existing recently in the Open Skies Consultative Commission [the implementing body of the treaty, consisting of representatives from each of the 34 states parties to the treaty], may lead to the collapse of the Open Skies Treaty,” the Russian MFA said in the statement.Hmmmm..............Anyone heard about these 'overflights' in the MSM?Read the full story here.

Obama's Georgia Ballot Hearing: Judge Wanted To Immediately Enter Default Judgment Against Obama.

Obama's Georgia Ballot Hearing: Judge Wanted To Immediately Enter Default Judgment Against Obama.(ORYR).As we are trying to get a quick lunch, and then do some interviews, this is just a very brief synopsis of what happened today. Before the hearing started, the judge called the attorneys into his chambers and explained that he was going to enter a default judgment in their favor. Attorneys Hatfield and Irion requested to be able to present abbreviated versions of their arguments so that they would be on the record. At that point, Irion estimated he would need 20 minutes, Hatfield estimated he would need 30 minutes, and Taitz estimated she would need 2 hours.

Van Irion and Mark Hatfield made their arguments, and left. Taitz then presented her argument, calling several witnesses, until the judge asked her to make her closing statement. As her closing statement began, the judge asked if she was testifying, and, in an unconventional move, Taitz took the witness stand to testify. The judge finally asked her just to make her closing statement, which she did.

We believe that the default judgment automatically translates into the judge's recommendation to the Sec. Of State being that Obama should not appear on the ballot in Georgia.Read the continious story here.
