OTTAWA,— At least 400 Kurdish Yazidi women raped and tortured by Islamic militants (IS) could have safe passage to Canada if the government would heed a proposal to rescue them, a religious freedoms organization says.

One Free World International says in their drive to resettle more than 25,000 Syrian refugees, the Liberals are turning their backs on the most vulnerable — religious minorities who are often a direct target of warring factions in the ongoing conflicts in the region.

The group has identified 400 Yazidi women and their families, about 1,600 people in all, living in displaced persons camps in Iraqi Kurdistan. It has a plan to bring them to Canada, but says the proposal is being ignored.

Their situation is in part what prompted then-prime minister Stephen Harper to join international air strikes against IS.

But their fate is now forgotten, (By the Liberals) said Majed El Shafie, founder of the One Free World group.

Girls as young as nine are sold into sex slavery, tortured, forced to convert or be killed and yet the Canadian government is doing nothing to help, he told a House of Commons committee on Tuesday.
“The government has failed big time in helping them,” he said.

“Even if the government brought only nine cases, what will this do to the community that is facing genocide?”

The question of whether what’s happening to the Yazidis amounts to genocide will get renewed attention in the House of Commons on Thursday. A Conservative motion will be debated calling for the House to condemn the atrocities perpetrated by IS against religious and sexual minorities and to declare the crimes a genocide.

The Tories already tried and failed to move a motion to that effect in April.

Three months earlier, El Shafie said he’d met Immigration Minister John McCallum at a reception, chatted with him about the group’s plan and followed up a few days later with his chief of staff.
The group never heard back and held a press conference on the Hill last month to apply further pressure, but there’s been no action.

Initially Tuesday, neither McCallum nor his chief of staff could recall the meeting.

Later in the day after reviewing all their files, chief of staff Mathieu Belanger said he had discussed the issue with a consultant working with the group but the government’s policy remains that they directly resettle only refugees selected by the UN.

Belanger said, however, that they will take another look at the group’s proposal and discuss it with them in the next few days.


The government is already working with a group in Winnipeg sponsoring Yazidis through the private system but McCallum noted refugees in places like northern Iraq or Turkey are hard to reach and officials are doing what they can..

But NDP immigration critic Jenny Kwan said bureaucracy is no excuse for inaction when the reports of what’s happening to the Yazidis continue to circulate.

“Is it acceptable to just turn around and say, ‘I’m sorry, there’s nothing we can do?’,” she said.
El Shafie’s plan would involve sending teams to Iraqi Kurdistan in conjunction with settlement workers poised in Canada to accept the women and their families.

Since the women are in their home country, they would have to come to Canada under special provisions within immigration law, not the existing refugee resettlement program. Read the full story here.

Since assuming power in November 4, 2015, Trudeau government brought in to Canada as of May 15, 2016, 27,190 Syrian refugees of whom 15,355 are government-assisted refugees, 2,341 blended visa-office referred refugees and 9,494 privately sponsored refugees.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship confirmed on May 12, 2016 in their testimony to the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration that the number of Yazidi cases which are being processed are “small” totalling only 9 cases.

Immigration Canada is receiving refugee applications of Syrian nationals only in Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan. Hmmm.....And 'Islamist' Turkey determines which refugees are allowed to travel to host countries. For the other countries it's MUSLIM administrations who handle the applications. Alberta Islamic Welfare Association hosted on Family Day (February 5, 2016) Syrian refugees and their families for a social gathering with members of the local Muslim community in Edmonton and the Imam Shaban Sherif Mady.

Sheikh Shaban Sherif Mady (شعبان شريف ماضي), was a scholar at al-Azhar theological school in Egypt and served at the Ministry of Endowment and Ministry of Education of the Egyptian government. Today, he is the Imam of a Muslim congregation in Edmonton, Alberta which holds its Friday prayers at Glengarry Hall in Edmonton.

In his speech to the Syria refugees, Shaban Sherif Mady greeted them, emphasized the merits of the people of Greater Syria in the eyes of Allah for defeating the Crusaders and the Tatars and ended with a supplication to Allah.

Shaban Sherif Mady dedicated his Friday sermon on December 18, 2015 to Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whom he sees as the greatest ally of the Muslims. Hmmm.......'Real Change'. Read the full story here.

Canada's new Liberal government said on Monday it was delivering a "tough message" to Israel as a good friend after expressing concern about Israeli-Palestinian violence, Israeli settlements and unilateral Palestinian moves.

The statement came a day after Foreign Minister Stephane Dion was criticized for saying Palestinian initiatives toward statehood in international forums and continued Israeli settlements were unhelpful.

"We're steadfast allies and good friends, and good friends can occasionally deliver tough messages, but it's by no means to suggest that we're somehow retreating from any kind of support of Israel," said Joe Pickerill, Dion's spokesman.

Dion on Sunday had issued a statement expressing concern about the  conflict, sparking charges by the Conservative opposition that the Liberal government was being unfairly critical of Israel.

"As a steadfast ally and friend to Israel, Canada calls for all efforts to be made to reduce violence and incitement and to help build the conditions for a return to the negotiating table," Dion said in the statement on Sunday.

His spokesman, Joe Pickerill, elaborated on Monday by saying that Canada was not trying to create a "faux balance" by equating violence by either side, but felt the need to speak out Hmmmm..........Yeah sure. Read the full story here.

Meshwar newspaper (Issue 148, January 22, 2016, P. 40) reported on the event as follows (originally in Arabic):

“Activists of the Palestinian community in Erin Mills, Mississauga [Ontario] held an event honouring MP Iqra Khalid, who won the federal elections because of the voters from Muslim and Arab descent. The purpose of the event was to strengthen the relationship between the members of the [Palestinian] community and the Liberal members of Parliament.

“The event was attended by a large number of members of the Palestinian community who reside in this area and Arab journalists, in an effort to embolden and strengthen the standing of the [Palestinian] community in any future elections and to get involved in the political and social life of the Canadian multi-cultural society.

The Palestine House stands by the Palestinian al-Quds Intifada also dubbed The Knife Intifada.

The Palestine House was de-funded in 2012 by the federal government for what then Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Jason Kenney referred to as a “pattern of support for extremism.”
Minister Kenney’s spokesperson said that “Palestine House has in the last few years aligned itself with terrorist causes, including celebrating the release of terrorists and honouring the founder of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), one of the groups that formed the Palestine Liberation Organization and in the 1960s and ’70s, was responsible for numerous armed attacks and aircraft hijackings.”

In 2014, The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) submitted to Peel Region Police several complaints of possible hate crimes allegedly committed by Meshwar newspaper. The complaints documented cases of anti Jewish rhetoric including sympathizing with a terrorist attack (Jerusalem massacre), posting an article questioning the veracity of the Holocaust and a cartoon that depicted the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu drinking the blood of Palestinian children.
