As part of a broad mission to end extreme poverty worldwide the Obama administration is giving unproven startups millions of dollars to create solar power in Africa.

It’s a multi-million-dollar U.S. initiative to inspire entrepreneurs and investors to help bring enough connections so households in sub-Saharan Africa have access to clean, modern and affordable electricity.

Uncle Sam will pitch in around $36 million and the money will flow through Power Africa, a program created by President Obama to increase the number of people with access to power in the world’s second-largest continent.

This comes with a hefty price tag and, though the United Kingdom and private foundations will also contribute, American taxpayers will dole out the largest chunks of cash for the African endeavor.


It appears to be the international version of the president’s disastrous—and costly—plan to create innovative clean technologies domestically by filling the coffers of fly-by-night companies that never delivered. Instead, they went bankrupt after getting billions of dollars from American taxpayers under a Department of Energy (DOE) initiative that doled out $16.1 billion for more than two dozen projects. To the many gullible souls out there who truly think that Barack Obama is "legacy building" in his all-out assault on America, I implore you to bow out of the conversation because you are not seeing clearly.

The term legacy carries positive connotations of something bequeath that is to the receiver's benefit. Everything that Barack Obama does is calculated to destroy America, which he despises. This man no more cares about legacy than he fears being properly prosecuted by the white political leaders whose responsibility it is to remove him from office.

I focus on white leaders, because whites are still in the majority and they fill the majority of political offices. If the majority of political operatives were of some other ethnicity, I would lodge my complaint against that group. Ethnicity is an issue only because Obama is half-black and he uses that fact to intimidate guilt-conflicted white people. Otherwise, he would have been impeached and likely in prison for treason by now.

Barack Obama's sole aim has been, since he first entered politics and continues as he winds down this presidency, the complete destruction of America as it was founded.

It is an insult to the intelligence of all Americans who must listen to elitist pundits on Fox news and elsewhere, and political drones in either party endeavor to make Obama's behavior fit a pattern of normalcy. Attributing his destructive policies to "legacy building" is either self-delusion on the part of the people who make that claim or cowardliness.

This is my take.

Obama's nuclear deal with Iran has nothing to do with legacy but rather to enable a Muslim nation to wage nuclear war with America and Israel – the two nations that he most despises. Does anyone wonder why Russians praise Vladimir Putin despite what the rest of the world might think of him? Putin cares about his country, that's why.

Obama despises the American military because traditionally it has been a mainstay of America's strength, and our strength infuriates him. Read the full statement here.

flashback 2008: “They don’t pose a serious threat to us in the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us,” Obama told a cheering audience, explaining why he doesn’t think we need to worry about “tiny” countries like Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, and Iran.

Washington is open to the idea of talking to North Korea on the resumption of stalled denuclearization negotiations, and is ready for dialogue to take place, "whether in Pyongyang or in some other place," according to US Special Envoy for North Korea Policy Sung Kim.

The six-party talks on North Korea's denuclearization, involving North Korea, South Korea, the US, China, Russia and Japan have been halted since 2008. Pyongyang has signaled its readiness for the negotiations to resume, with Washington saying that North Korea must first demonstrate its commitment.

With Washington and Pyongyang not maintaining formal diplomatic relations, Kim said that his mission keeps in contact with North Korea through its New York-based UN mission. So far, Kim said that Pyongyang has shown no interest in holding talks with the US.

Kim noted that the US would work with all the members of the six-party talks to resume talks and "to achieve progress in implementing the Joint Statement," reached in 2005 after Pyongyang promised to give up its nuclear program in exchange for diplomatic recognition and economic concessions.

Earlier this year, North Korea proposed a new round of talks, "without preconditions," with Washington responding that they are not interested in "talks for the sake of talks," demanding that Pyongyang first begin taking steps toward denuclearization instead.

Russian experts cited by Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper are split on the significance of Kim's remarks. The newspaper noted that while the US's apparent readiness to hold talks can be useful in dissuading Pyongyang from new weapons testing, "on the other hand, Washington has made it clear that the DPRK's tactic of 'raising the degree of tension' works: once Pyongyang demonstrated the seriousness of its intentions for new testing, Washington immediately began talking about their readiness to resume negotiations." Newly released documents show Department of Justice officials, Internal Revenue Service and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials were discussing prosecuting nonprofit organizations for allegedly engaging in illegal political activity.

An official “DOJ Recap” document obtained by the group Judicial Watch details an Oct. 8, 2010 meeting between DOJ, IRS and FBI officials, including Lois Lerner, where the administration employees discussed “several possible theories to bring criminal charges under FEC law” against groups “posing” as tax exempt nonprofits.

“The section’s attorneys expressed concern that certain section 501(c) organizations are actually political committees ‘posing’ as if they are not subject to FEC law, and therefore may be subject to criminal liability,” reads the memo from IRS Exempt Organizations Tax Law Specialist Siri Buller to top IRS officials.

Lerner, who was forced out of the IRS in 2013 amid a scandal that the IRS was targeting conservative groups, and her top aide Judy Kindell, explained to DOJ and FBI officials that “although we do not believe that organizations which are subject to a civil audit subsequently receive any type of immunity from a criminal investigation, she will refer them to individuals from [Criminal Investigations] who can better answer that question.” Read the full story here.

Following the influx of illegal immigrant minors from Central America, an official at the federal agency charged with protecting public health describes Barack Obama as “the worst pres we have ever had,” an “amateur” and “Marxist,” according to internal emails obtained by Judicial Watch.

JW got the records as part of an investigation into the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) activation of an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to deal with the barrage of illegal alien minors last summer. Tens of thousands of Central Americans came into the United States through the Mexican border and contagious diseases—many considered to be eradicated in the U.S.—became a tremendous concern. The CDC, which operates under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), responded by opening an emergency facility designed to monitor and coordinate response activities to eminent public health threats.

It’s a major and costly operation that can stick American taxpayers with a huge tab. That’s why JW launched a probe when the Obama administration took in the illegal immigrants, initially coined Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC), with open arms last summer. JW has sued the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for planning records involving the border crisis as well as information relating to the solicitation of “on-demand escort services” for the 65,000 UACs that remain in the U.S. Last year JW also reported that the illegal immigrant minors have brought in serious diseases, including swine flu, dengue fever, possibly Ebola virus and tuberculosis.

The CDC records obtained by JW this week include email exchanges between agency officials directly involved in the activation of the EOC to handle the health threats created by the influx of illegal alien minors last summer.

In an email dated June 9, 2014, CDC Logistics Management Specialist George Roark wrote to CDC Public Health Advisor William Adams that “no country in the world would allow” the influx. Adams replies that “in ten years or less, they’ll all be voting…Commander’s intent…” Roark fires back by describing Obama as “the worst pres we have ever had…he truly is ‘the amateur’ but a Marxist too.” Read the full story here.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney has been critical of President Obama since he took office six years ago, but on Tuesday evening’s Hugh Hewitt Radio Show he went further than ever before, saying that if there were a president who tried to take the country down, he would do exactly what Obama was doing.

Appearing on the program with his daughter, former State Department official Liz Cheney, the former V.P. criticized Obama for weakening “our position in the world,” reducing “our capacity to influence events,” “turning our backs on our allies” and encouraging “our adversaries.”

After welcoming them to the show and discussing their book on foreign policy to be published on September 1, Hewitt asked the pair about some of Obama’s comments made about the Iran nuclear deal:

Hewitt: Liz Cheney, former senior State Department official, you are also the head of the Iran/Syria policy and operations group when you were at State. Let me play for you President Obama from Sunday, a small pull, cut number three if we can have that, Adam, from Sunday.
Obama (Tape): Well, I think that it’s important to recognize that Iran’s a complicated country, just like we’re a complicated country.
Hewitt: Liz Cheney, is Iran a complicated country just like we’re a complicated country?
L.Cheney: Boy, Hugh, I cannot even imagine an American president saying any sentence that has Iran in it and says they’re just like us. I mean, it’s outrageous. Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terror. They’ve got the blood of hundreds if not thousands of Americans on their hands. And they are continuing their attempts to obtain a nuclear weapon. And I thought it was so telling the day that the administration sort of went out and proclaimed victory in the nuclear talks, that when the Iranian foreign minister came out, he said we aren’t going to stop enriching, we aren’t going to shut down any facilities, and all of the sanctions are going to be lifted. That’s his interpretation of the deal. And so you know, this president, to be in a situation where he’s aligning our policy with that of Iran is breathtaking, and it’s really shameful.
Hewitt: Let me play for both of you a cut from earlier today. The President sat down with an NPR reporter who asked him about Scott Walker’s statement on this show last week, that he’d repudiate the emerging Iran hologram, I don’t call it a deal, on day one. Here’s what the President said:
Obama (Tape): Any president who gets elected will be knowledgeable enough about foreign policy and knowledgeable enough about the traditions and precedents of presidential power that they won’t start calling into question the capacity of the executive branch of the United States to enter into agreements with other countries. If that starts being questioned, that’s going to be a problem for our friends, and that’s going to embolden our enemies. And it would be a foolish approach to take, and you know, perhaps Mr. Walker, after he’s taken some time to bone up on foreign policy, will feel the same way.
Hewitt: Vice President Cheney, you’ve been boning up on foreign policy since you entered the House 30 years ago. What do you make of that statement?
D. Cheney: Well, it starts from a flawed presumption on Obama’s part. For most of the last 70 years since World War II, we’ve had a bipartisan accord in this country between Democrat and Republican, Harry Truman, Jack Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Ronald Reagan, Dwight Eisenhower, the Bushes, believed that America had to play a leading role in the world, that we needed to maintain a first class military capability to do that, and occasionally use it, that the world works best with U.S. leadership. The first president, really, who doesn’t, no longer believes that fundamental truth, is Barack Obama. And what he’s saying in his criticism of Governor Walker I think probably Governor Walker welcomes. It’s almost like a paid commercial. I heard today that as soon as the statement came out from Obama criticizing the Governor, he immediately sent out letters to all of his supporters. I’m glad he did that. I think it’s a mark of the weakness of this president that he’d say such a thing.
Hewitt: Let me play a couple of other cuts from the Sunday interview, cut number eight, Adam, please:
Obama (Tape): What we’ve also seen is that there is a practical streak to the Iranian regime. I think they’re concerned about self-preservation.
Hewitt: And cut number nine:
Obama (Tape): I think they are responsive, to some degree, to their publics.
Hewitt: So Mr. Vice President, you dealt with Iran a lot both as Secretary of Defense, and eight years as Vice President. Do they strike you as a practically minded and responsive regime?
D. Cheney: Absolutely not, Hugh. This is the most, one of the most radical regimes in history, headed up by the mullahs who believe in a very, sort of, I think, twisted version of the Koran, who are sworn to destroy Israel, who always have these big meetings. They did just this week, because they were negotiating in Geneva, shouting Death To America. This is a totally radical regime that is the premier sponsor of state terrorism in the world, and Obama’s about to give them nuclear weapons. It’s, I can’t think of a more terrible burden to leave the next president than what Obama is creating here.
Hewitt: Is he naïve, Mr. Vice President? Or does he have a far-reaching vision that only he entertains of a realigned Middle East that somehow it all works out in the end?
D. Cheney: I don’t know, Hugh. I vacillate between the various theories I’ve heard, but you know, if you had somebody as president who wanted to take America down, who wanted to fundamentally weaken our position in the world and reduce our capacity to influence events, turn our back on our allies and encourage our adversaries, it would look exactly like what Barack Obama’s doing. I think his actions are constituted in my mind those of the worst president we’ve ever had.

The questioning turned to the Hillary Clinton email scandal and the trial and conviction of Dick Cheney’s former aide Scooter Libby, whom the former V.P. strongly believes was railroaded. Then Hewitt asked the Iran deal and Congress:

Hewitt: Last question, and we have a minute, Mr. Vice President, so I’ll end with you. Do you think President Obama’s Iran deal is headed to a Woodrow Wilson-like League of Nations defeat in the Congress?
D. Cheney: I think it is. My sense of it is that the members of Congress are much more realistic in their expectations of what Iran is prepared to do. They’re familiar with the history. They know the background. They’ve been around long enough, and I think are far more realistic in their assessments of Iran than Barack Obama is. I trust the Congress at this stage, not the President.

U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen's decision puts on hold Obama's orders that could spare as many as 5 million people who are in the U.S. illegally from deportation.

Today the National Archives and Records Administration, responsible for such maintaining such filings, said no such executive order was ever signed or filed, confirming WND’s report Wednesday.

A National Archives librarian, Jeffrey Hartley, made the confirmation in an email Thursday to WND.

“As I indicated, it would appear that there is not an Executive Order stemming from the President’s remarks on November 20 on immigration,” Hartley wrote.

Hartley said that neither of the executive orders Obama signed in Las Vegas the day after his announcement fulfill his plan to defer deportations and grant work permits to up to 5 million illegal aliens.

“The only two documents that I have located are two Presidential Memoranda, which are available from the White House site,” Hartley’s email continued. “They can also be found in the November 26, 2014 issue of the Federal Register.”

The two documents Hartley referenced were the two executive orders Obama signed in Las Vegas Nov. 21.

One was a presidential proclamation creating a White House Task Force on New Americans and the other a presidential memorandum instructing the secretaries of State and Homeland Security to consult with various governmental and non-governmental entities to reduce costs and improve service in issuing immigrant and non-immigrant visas. A quarter-million Virginians likely will lose their health insurance plans by the end of the year because their plans to do not meet the requirements of the Affordable Care Act.

That’s in addition to the thousands of Virginians who already had lost their plans over the last year because of non-compliance with the ACA, popularly known as Obamacare.

Those who lose their health care plans can purchase another that complies with the ACA — but they’ll likely pay higher premiums each month.

A Manhattan Institute study found that older men (around age 64) are the only general group benefiting from lower rates than before because of the ACA. Young men (around age 27) are suffering the most from higher premiums as a result of Obamacare — an average 67 percent monthly increase.

The announcement is certainly timely ammunition for Ed Gillespie, the Republican who is running to replace Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., and already has been campaigning on Warner’s vote for Obamacare.

The latest Christopher Newport University poll shows Warner with a 22-point lead over Gillespie.

The Obama administration is preparing the nation’s schools to accept thousands of new students who illegally crossed the southwest border and are now awaiting trials on their possible deportations.

A fact sheet from the Department of Education sent to states and schools on Monday highlights the children’s right to attend public school.

It says all children in the United States “are entitled to equal access to a public elementary and secondary education, regardless of their or their parents’ actual or perceived national origin, citizenship, or immigration status.”

The prospect of tens of thousands of children mostly from Central American countries attending school as they wait for their immigration status to be decided has the potential to be explosive after this summer’s emotional public debate about the border.

Several Republican governors have blasted the federal government for releasing many of the minors to sponsors in their home states, and protests in which demonstrators blocked buses from delivering immigrants to shelters erupted in June and July.

Now some state officials are worried about the additional costs they’ll endure from educating the children.
“There are many consequences of the federal government’s failure to secure the border and the fiscal impact of educating unaccompanied alien children is certainly one of them,” said Travis Considine, a spokesman for Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R).

Around 63,000 children, mostly from the Central American countries of Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, have been apprehended this year trying to cross the border.

Many are in the 150 or so shelters operated around the country by the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Education said those children would attend classes in those facilities.

President Obama will embark on a 15-day vacation next month, even as the nation and the world are engulfed in crises from the border with Mexico to the Middle East.

The Obamas will depart Washington on Saturday, August 9th and head for Martha’s Vineyard, staying in a $12 million vacation home until Sunday, August 24th, reports the Martha’s Vineyard Times.

The president will return to the town Chilmark, the site of last year’s Obama sojourn, where he will rest up “in a secluded house off North Road that overlooks the north shore and Vineyard Sound,” the Times reported.
According the the newspaper:

The seven-bedroom, nine-bath, 8,100-square-foot house, sits on a 10-acre lot and is assessed at more than $12 million. It features 17 rooms in total, expansive water views of Vineyard Sound, an infinity pool and hot tub, and a dual tennis-basketball court.

The president’s extended vacation on The Vineyard comes after a 16-day stop in Hawaii over Christmas, adding up to a total of more than 31 days of vacation in less than a year, not counting weekend getaways.

Pres. Obama is seeking an additional $1.4 billion to deal with the flood of Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) into the U.S., a Congressional Research Service report reveals.

Obama's FY2015 budget did not originally seek an increase in UAC funding for government agencies - but, on May 30, the administration nearly tripled its UAC budget request for the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) by asking for an additional $1.4 billion:

In the President's FY2015 budget for the various agencies responsible for the UAC population (i.e., specifically in HHS/ORR and DHS budgets), there wasn't a request for funding increases to help address what has been characterized as a strain on agency resources.

The FY2015 President's budget request for the HHS/ORR program was originally $868 million, which is the same amount that was appropriated in FY2014. However, on May 30, 2014, the Office of Management and Budget updated its cost projections related to the UAC crisis and requested a total of $2.28 billion for FY2015 for the UAC program in the Office of Refugee Resettlement.

In response, the Senate Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health, and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies, recommended $1.94 billion, which is $34 million less than the Administration's amended request - but, still more than $1 billion increase over FY2014 levels - in its FY2015 draft appropriations bill on June 10, 2014.Read the full story here.

The U.S. national debt has reached nearly $17.3 trillion. When the Treasury’s blank-check borrowing authority expired at midnight last night, the U.S. officially hit its debt limit.

What most people failed to realize is that the U.S. government has operated since October with no debt limit in place.

That’s right. Congress never raised the debt limit—it “suspended” it. Simply put, Congress made the debt limit go away until February 8, 2014.

This is not the first time that Congress has rendered the debt limit inoperative. It first suspended the debt limit in January 2013. Since then, the Treasury has borrowed nearly $900 billion.

Although the debt limit returned for a few months in May 2013, the Treasury continued issuing government debt almost as if nothing had happened—which is what will happen again this time.

The Treasury has a number of debt limit loopholes at its disposal that enable it to continue borrowing without legally breaching the debt ceiling. Also called “extraordinary measures,” these tools include borrowing from the federal employee retirement G Fund and the Civil Service Retirement and Disability Fund, among others.
When Congress fails to limit borrowing with the debt limit, the people’s representatives effectively abdicate their constitutional power to control borrowing—which encourages more spending and debt.

Approaching the debt limit is a very public and focused affair. It forces the American people and their representatives to confront the fact that the budget is unbalanced and that deficit spending adds to the already massive national debt.

It’s also an effective opportunity to shame Congress and the President for their reckless spending and borrowing, which is why congressional challengers often highlight an incumbent’s vote to increase the debt ceiling in election campaigns.

These features of the debt limit statute make it tough to vote for increasing the debt ceiling. America’s Founders recognized the benefit of being able to borrow when the need arose, especially in times of war. But they also recognized that out-of-control debt posed a great danger to the nation’s prosperity and sought to pay down the debt and limit it.

The debt limit serves as an important check on federal spending and borrowing. Congress is, yet again, confronted with the debt ceiling, and the Treasury’s leeway is projected to run out in late February.

A prudent Congress would put the budget on a path to balance in order to avoid a much worse fiscal crisis in the future—before deciding how much more to borrow. Importantly, Congress should put an actual limit on the debt—not a suspension that allows for unlimited and unaccountable borrowing.

While Washington debates over what is the proper explanation of the CBO's report which explicitly states that millions of workers will drop out of the labor force over the next decade thanks to Obamacare, Obama himself may have finally thrown in the towel, realizing that the longer the full implementation of Obamacare is delayed, the longer the myth that it is a viable Ponzi scheme - as opposed to non-viable - can persist.

Perhaps this explains why AP reports that the White House is now considering an extension of the president's decision to let people keep their individual insurance policies even if they are not compliant with the health care overhaul, according to two top industry officials.

Avalere Health CEO Dan Mendelson said Thursday that the administration may let policyholders keep that coverage for an additional three years, stressing that no decision has been made. Policymakers are waiting to see what rate hikes health insurers plan for the insurance exchanges that are key to the overhaul's coverage expansions.
"The administration is entertaining a range of options to ensure that this individual market has stability to it and that would be one thing that they could do," he said.
Avalere Health is a market analysis firm, but Mendelson said his company was not advising the administration on exchange policy. He said he has had informal discussions with administration officials about the extension, but he didn't identify them.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Health and Human Services, Joanne Peters, said "We are continuing to examine all sorts of ways to provide consumers with more choices and to smooth the transition as we implement the law."

Earlier, Mark Bertolini, Chairman and CEO of Aetna and the nation's third largest insurer, told analysts during his earnings call that he had heard the plans may be extended. Perhaps a more important thing Bertolini said is that his company may pull out of markets if the Medicare cuts are too high, adding that 2015 may be challenging due to medicare cuts. This may have been the final straw that pushed the administration into action.

However, even a longer extension than was rumored previously will hardly help reinstate the policies of all those millions who lost coverage in the lead up to the Obamacare enactment as insurance companies know that terms will once again change eventually, so why go through the headache of temporary reinstatement just to cut all those "non-compliant" individuals once again?

Individual policyholders were hit with a wave of cancellation notices last year because their coverage was less robust than what is required under the law, and many states allowed insurance companies to simply cancel them.
The wave of cancellation notices — at least 4.7 million of them — hit just when the new HealthCare.gov website was experiencing some of its worst technical problems, and it undercut the president's well-publicized promise that if you liked your plan you could keep it.

You couldn't.

At first the White House went into damage-control mode, arguing that many of the cancelled plans were "junk" insurance and consumers would be better off with the broader coverage available through the health care law's new insurance markets.
But soon Obama was forced to reverse course, urging insurers and state regulators to allow policyholders to keep their existing plans for an additional year. Most states complied with the request.
Now the administration is considering adding more years to this extension to avoid another wave of problems if rates on the exchange climb too high and people are left without an affordable coverage option. Health insurers are supposed to submit by May the rates they want to charge on the exchanges next year.

Actually, the only reason why Obama is suddenly willing to compromise over every aspect of his "crowning achievement" is that finally its tactical, and strategic failure has become clear for all to see.
So it would be best to enact it piecemeal, and claim success for whatever legacy aspects of the system are working, while blasting everything that his unprecedentedly complicated, centrally-planned contraption has unleashed.
Finally, why three years? Because by then Obama will be gone (absent some very radical changes to presidential term rules), and Obamacare will be someone else's problem.

Hentoff sees the biggest problem as Obama’s penchant to rule by executive order when he can’t convince Congress to do things his way. 

The issue jumped back into the headlines last week when, just before his first Cabinet meeting of 2014, Obama said, “I’ve got a pen and I’ve got a phone … and I can use that pen to sign executive orders and take executive actions.” 

“Apparently he doesn’t give one damn about the separation of powers,” Hentoff told WND. 

“Never before in our history has a president done these things.” And just to make sure everyone knew how extremely serious he regarded the situation, the journalist added, “This is the worst state, I think, the country has ever been in.” 

Many have regarded Hentoff as the conscience of civil libertarianism and liberalism for decades. Recognized as one of the foremost authorities on the Bill of Rights and the Supreme Court, Hentoff was a columnist and staff writer with The Village Voice for 51 years, from 1957 until 2008, when his columns began appearing in WND. 

Hentoff left the Voice after he looked into the abortion industry, was shocked by what he found and had a falling-out with colleagues. 

The First Amendment expert still hews left on many issues, railing against former President George W. Bush, former Vice President Dick Cheney, the prison at Guantanamo Bay and the National Defense Authorization Act. But he hasn’t liked Obama from the start. 

“Within a few months after he was elected, I wrote a column saying he was going to be the most destructive, dangerous president we’ve ever had,” he said. 

Hentoff said people he’d known for years told him to stop being so negative and to give Obama a chance. 

“Well, we’ve given him a chance. I understated the case a little.” 

The journalist told WND that he firmly believed the president does not care about due process, the separation of powers, the concept of a self-governing republic or many other basic American ideals.

And that’s why, he said, “What Obama is doing now is about as un-American as you can get.”

Hentoff wanted to make sure no one thought he was engaging in hyperbole.

He said it was literally true that Obama is “the most un-American president we’ve ever had.”

The second new Borey class ballistic missile submarine will enter Russian Navy service on Saturday, a defense industry source has told RIA Novosti.

“The commissioning of the ship into the fleet, as well as a flag-raising ceremony on the ballistic missile submarine Alexander Nevsky, is planned for December 21,” the source told RIA. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu will attend the ceremony at the Sevmash shipyard in the northern city of Severodvinsk.

The Defense Ministry said last month that delivery of the boat would be delayed until 2014 following the failure of an onboard missile system during sea trials in September. The malfunction was the latest in a string of eight failures of the new Bulava missile – developed for the new Borey class submarines – out of a total of 19 or 20 launches.

The new Borey class boats are currently incapable of performing their primary role of nuclear deterrence while the Bulava has not yet been cleared for service, a navy command source said on November 1.
The Alexander Nevsky, with a length of nearly two football fields, can carry sixteen Bulava missiles, each fitted with up to ten independently-targetable nuclear warheads. The first ship of the Borey class, the Yury Dolgoruky, entered service in January.

Ballistic missile submarines comprise one leg of Russia’s strategic nuclear triad along with land-based ICBMs and the bomber force.

The Borey is Russia’s first post-Soviet ballistic missile submarine class and will form the mainstay of the strategic submarine fleet, replacing aging Typhoon, Delta-3 and Delta-4 class boats. Russia ultimately expects eight of the type to enter service by 2020. The third boat in the class, the Vladimir Monomakh, is expected to be launched for manufacturer’s acceptance trials this month.Hmmmm......'RESET'.

Russia confirmed Monday that it has deployed tactical ballistic missiles near its borders with NATO but said the move did not violate international agreements.

Bild newspaper in Germany reported over the weekend that Russia had “quietly” moved 10 Iskander-M (SS-26 Stone) missile systems into its Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad and along its border with the Baltic States and NATO members Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The deployment marks the realization of threats from Moscow to respond with a firm gesture to NATO plans to place elements of the so-called European missile shield close to Russian borders.

“The deployment of Iskander missile battalions on the territory of the Western Military District does not violate any respective international agreements,” ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said.

Konashenkov declined to provide details on the number of deployed missiles or their specific locations. The Iskander-M is a mobile theater missile system equipped with two solid-propellant single-stage 9M723K1 guided missiles with "quasi-ballistic" capability.

With its reported effective range of 400 kilometers (250 miles), the Iskander does not fall into the category of intermediate-range nuclear missiles banned by the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty between Russia and the United States. The missiles deployed in Kaliningrad could hit NATO targets located in Poland, Lithuania and even in Germany, however. Hmmmm......Leading from behind the golf course.
