I am looking for any information on the role/mission/whereabouts of the 1830th Ordnance Supply and Maintenance Co. Aviation during World War II. It was part of the 327th Service Group in the 367th Fighter Group. I am especially interested in anything pertaining to Sgt. Stanley Armour Dunham. 

This is what I have for the unit, was not in the UK on the 30 Sept 1943 list but shows up at Langar, Nottinghamshire on the 14 Nov 1943 list.

On the 31 Dec 1943 list it is at Ramsbury, Wiltshire. 

On the 21 Feb 1944 list it is at Welford, Berkshire. 

The lists, 31 Mar, 30 Apr, 31 May, abd 30 Jun 1944 show it at Stoney Cross, Hampshire. 

It was not on the UK Station List of 31 Aug 1944 so it must have gone to the Continent. Contiental List of 16 Dec 1944 show the unit at Juivincourt, France which is northwest of Reims. The list for 2 May 1945 has the unit at Eschborn, Germany just west of Frankfurt.

By weakening the German army and keeping it occupied on the Eastern Front, Soviet Russia prepared for the way for the Allied success of D-Day in the West.

The retired Royal Navy cruiser the HMS Belfast fired its six-round salute at midday on June 5 in London to mark the 70th anniversary of the assembly of the D-Day fleet, beginning the commemoration of one of the key battles of World War II, an amphibious assault that remains the largest the world has ever seen. The Belfast, which is now preserved as a museum, fired one of the opening salvos on June 6, 1944, attacking a German artillery position at La Marefontaine, supporting British forces landing on Gold and Juno beaches.
On June 6, U.S. President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, will join veterans from the U.S., the UK and Canada in Normandy to mark their contribution to the defeat of fascism in Europe. Alongside them will be Russian President Vladimir Putin, and while no Soviet forces took part in the amphibious operation itself, his presence there is apt, given the enormous part Russia played in the success of Operation Overlord.

The air supremacy enjoyed by the Allies on D-Day and crucial to its successful outcome owed much to events on the Eastern Front. The combined Allied air forces flew 14,000 sorties in support of the D-Day landings and met with fewer than 100 German ones in response, an overwhelming superiority.
Moreover, in the months preceding D-Day, the Allied air forces had been free to disrupt utterly the arrival of German reinforcements. Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, in charge of the German defenses of Northern France, desperately wanted Ju 87 Stuka dive bomber units to defend the Atlantic Wall, but was denied them by Hitler who insisted they remain on the Eastern Front.

The situation in the air was mirrored by events on the ground. Two-thirds of the Nazis’ available manpower was tied up fighting on the Eastern Front. Given the huge resistance encountered, particularly by U.S. troops on Omaha beach and the fierce fighting which followed, notably in Falaise, it’s clear that had the D-Day landing force encountered anything like the full strength of the Wehrmacht, the outcome of the battle could have been very different.

Perhaps inevitably, given the rapid post-War cooling of diplomatic relations between the Soviet Union and the West, the Red Army’s role both in the success of the D-Day landing and the outcome of the war itself was drastically underplayed. But, as one document being displayed on HMS Belfast at the June 5 celebration makes clear, not everyone in the West was unaware of the Russian sacrifices.Read the full story here.

Oradour-sur-Glane, a village in central France, was the site of the horrific SS attack. Women and children were rounded up and imprisoned in a church while the village was looted, the men divided into four groups, taken to barns and machine-gunned down. Many of the victims were set alight in the barns.

A full 190 men were killed. A further 247 women and 205 children died after an explosive was set off in the church, which subsequently went up in flames.
The unnamed German, 19 at the time of the massacre, was indicted over taking part in gunning down the men.
“The prosecutor's office in Dortmund has charged an 88-year-old pensioner from Cologne over the murder of 25 people committed by a group, and with aiding and abetting the murder of several hundred people,” said a statement released by the Cologne prosecutor’s office on Wednesday.
He was also deemed complicit in the deaths of the women and children as he “provided a guard near the church,” the court heard.Read the full story here.

Why the United States should leave the United Nations

The United Nations is a worldwide organization which was founded during World War II in the year 1942. The term was coined by Franklin D. Roosevelt when representatives from 26 nations pledged on behalf of their government and country to fight against the Axis powers in WWII. In 1945, representatives from 50 nations across the world met at a conference in San Francisco and signed the United Nations Charter.  The United Nations officially came into existence on October 28th, 1945 which is now celebrated worldwide as United Nations Day. In the aftermath of WWII, the United Nations helped rebuild Europe and adopted resolutions to make sure such unconventional weapons like the atomic bomb will never be used again and took steps to end genocide around the world. In 1948, the United Nations voted and established the State of Israel on the land of the Palestinian Mandate to finally give the Jews a homeland after the horrors of the Holocaust. The United Nations did well at the time but its usefulness has expired since then. While the United Nations was supposed to take steps to prevent genocide, conflict and racism, the United Nations has not only failed to fulfill its duties, but has fueled such actions around the world.
Since 1945, estimates as high as almost 15 million have died of genocide worldwide. The Rwanda Genocide, the Bangladesh Atrocities of 1971, the Cambodian Genocide and the Nigerian Civil War account for 10 million deaths maximum. In all these conflicts, the United Nations have done next to nothing to help the poor people being murdered in these countries. The United Nations (UN) pretends to help by passing resolutions condemning the countries which cause the genocide. In reality, this does absolutely nothing. There is no actual punishment for not following a UN resolution. Since 1945, there have been over 200 wars across the globe and the UN has done little to end them. The UN will send peacekeepers and spectators to these countries as if that will actually help them one bit. A fine example of this is the Syrian Civil War. The UN has attempted to pass resolutions against Syria but have been stopped by China and Russia who care for nothing more than their arms sales. This proves how dysfunctional the organization is. While nations such as Syria who has been killing its own people for over a year get by due to corrupt governments exploiting the system of the UN, Israel gets stuck with more UN resolutions than any country in history, condemning it for ridiculous reasons such as claiming Jerusalem as its capital, despite the fact that Jerusalem is the location of its government. Another famous resolution passed against Israel is Resolution 242, the resolution forcing Israel to withdraw from territories conquered during the Six Day War. While it is true that you may not conquer in a war of aggression and that it is a violation of international law, a country may conquer in a war of defense. One may say that this is irrelevant because Israel made the first attack in the Six Day War and was the aggressor, but what they don\'t know is that the aggressor was actually Egypt who blockaded the Gulf of Aqaba, Israel\'s only port to the Red Sea. As for fueling racism, the UN attempts to disguise this with names such as 'World Conference against Racism 2001' otherwise known as Durban I. the UN sponsored this event with an attempt to combat racism, or so it says. Instead of combatting racism as it was supposed to do, it became a racist conference labeling Israel as apartheid and linking Zionism to racism. This was followed again by Durban II in Geneva which included a racist speech by President Ahmadinejad of Iran. The meeting was boycotted by numerous western nations.
Even after laying resolutions against allies, failing to do their job and proving to be controlled by corrupt nations such as Russia, China and others, the United States continues to fund the UN, accounting for about 23of its core budget and about 25of its system-wide spending which is estimated to be as high as $25 billion. The ultimate question is why the US continues to fund such an organization which stands against American values and doesn\'t even get anywhere with the money spent. The only place the money is going is in the pockets of international dictators who say that they will help their people and goes towards resolutions that stand against what the US stands for. The spending is completely pointless. The simple solution is to leave the United Nations, cut off all government funding to them and expel the UN headquarters from US territory in New York City. With this being done, the UN will ultimately collapse on itself and nothing will happen that significantly changes the world because the UN, its resolutions and its peacekeeping barely helps anyone in any place. By leaving the UN, the US does not need to worry about sanctions and condemnations on its allies and can continue without spending so much money on such a useless organization. The UN, although failing to do so, wishes to create a permanent alliance of all countries around the world. George Washington warned the American people of this, saying we should 'steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world' in his farewell address.
The United States wastes billions of tax dollars every year on funding an organization which doesn\'t do its job, and if it were to do its job it would just be going against the American way of life. For these reasons, the United States should abandon the United Nations and expel the United Nations Headquarters from New York City so the United States and its allies can be more prosperous.

Jewish museum obtains iconic doctored Soviet Reichstag flag photo Red Army soldier was wearing two presumably looted watches.(TOI).The recently discovered original copy of an iconic World War II photo that was doctored in the Soviet Union was unveiled at the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center in Moscow.

A reproduction of the original negative of a photo documenting the raising of the Soviet flag over the Reichstag, the German parliament in Berlin, was unveiled on May 8 at the museum during a news conference, according to a report on the Chabad-affiliated Israeli news site www.col.org.il.

Taken in May 1945 by the Jewish photographer Yevgeny Khaldei, the photo was altered by the Soviet propaganda machine under Josef Stalin — smoke was added in the background to illustrate the intensity of the fighting. Also, a wristwatch was removed from the arm of the soldier seen raising the flag; he was wearing two presumably looted watches.

The original negative was purchased several weeks ago for an undisclosed amount by a collector from Khaldei’s daughter and donated to Russia’s Union of Jewish Communities, which gave it to the museum, the website reported Thursday – the 68th anniversary of Berlin’s occupation by the Red Army.

On May 8, the anniversary of the end of World War II, Berlin’s Martin Gropius Bau Museum opened an exhibition featuring photos by Khaldei, who is considered one of the most important photojournalists of the Soviet era.Read the full story here.

In honor of the celebrations, the city is changing back to its old name of Stalingrad. In 1961, following the Soviet policy of deconstructing the cult of personality around Stalin, the city was renamed Volgograd.
