Two Polish Seim commissions recognize Volhynia atrocity genocide of Polish population by Ukrainian nationalists.

Two Polish Seim commissions recognize Volhynia atrocity genocide of Polish population by Ukrainian nationalists. (Tass).

Two commissions (for links with the Poles and for culture and media) of the Polish Seim on Tuesday adopted a resolution recognizing genocide the atrocity committed by Ukrainian nationalists against the Poles in Volhynia, a region in the northwest corner of Ukraine, in 1943-1944 during WWII.

"We establish July 11 as an official day of mourning dedicated to the victims of genocide carried out by Ukrainian nationalists against the citizens of the [interwar] Second Polish Republic," the draft resolution said.

"The genocide carried out in 1943-1945 claimed the lives of more than 100,000 people, predominantly peasants. Their exact number is unknown. Many of them have not been buried with dignity until today," the draft said.

"The memory of the victims of those crimes committed by Ukrainian nationalists 40 years ago has never been perpetuated and the mass killings have not been recognized genocide to match the historical truth," the resolution’s text stressed.

The Polish deputies also remembers the reprisals, which the Poles committed in retaliation in Ukrainian villages. "Remembering the crimes committed by Ukrainian nationalists, we cannot keep silent about Polish retaliatory actions in Ukrainian villages which also claimed civilian lives," the document said. The Polish deputies expressed their gratitude to those Ukrainians who risked their lives to help the Poles. They suggested that the Polish president decorate them with state awards.

The deputies added a clause urging to establish and mark the places of fratricidal crimes and bury the remains of all the victims, if such are found, with dignity as well as to draw up the victims’ full list.

The Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) is an ultra-right political organization (banned in Russia) which operated predominantly in the territory of Western Ukraine during WWII.

In collaboration with German reconnaissance bodies, OUN fought against the Soviet rule. In February 1943, Ukrainian nationalists started mass extermination of the Polish population of Volhynia. The campaign reached its peak in July-August 1943. On July 11, 1943, the units of OUN - UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army) attacked about 100 Polish populated localities and killed about 100,000 Poles, mainly women, children and old people.

The killings’ main purpose was to cleanse the territory of a future Ukrainian state from all non-Ukrainians.Read the full story here.

Montreal mayor pledges to rename street, park honoring Nazi sympathizer.

Montreal mayor pledges to rename street, park honoring Nazi sympathizer. (ToI).

Montreal’s mayor pledged to rename a street and a park that honor a Nazi sympathizer who won the Nobel Prize for medicine in 1912.

Alexis Carrel, a French biologist and surgeon who died in 1944, earned fame for pioneering a new technique in vascular surgery.

But he was also an avowed eugenicist who in 1936 praised Adolf Hitler’s racial policies, supported the Nazi-controlled Vichy regime in France and advocated for the state’s elimination of “undesirables.”
Eugenics is a social philosophy that aims to “improve” human genetic traits.
Mayor Denis Coderre’s promise to act came after Quebec legislator David Birnbaum called on the province’s municipalities to eliminate street signs or other spaces bearing Carrel’s name before Holocaust Memorial Day on May 4.

Bastogne commemorates Battle of the Bulge under fresh snowfall.

Bastogne commemorates Battle of the Bulge under fresh snowfall. (HLB)[GoogleTranslate].

The commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne today took place under a thin layer of fresh snow.

Despite the cold weather had found many people attend the commemoration in the Grande Rue and the McAuliffe Square. The official and military ceremonies were attended by King Philip and Queen Matilda. There was also a delegation from the United States.

After receipt by mayor Benoit Lutgen regarded the king's troops. The homage took forty American veterans

There were a lot of political notables present: Prime Minister Charles Michel, Federal Minister Willy Borsus, Walloon Minister René Collin and the new President of the Parliament of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels (the French Community), Philippe Courard.

Also the granddaughter of the famous American General Patton was noted.

The royal couple was received at City Hall of Bastogne and in the hall John XXIII were put at a ceremony the close ties between Belgium and the USA again in the paint. The king and queen were talking for a long time with the veterans who had participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Hmmm.....Nobody ever defended anything successfully, there is only attack and attack and attack some more. - George S. Patton

Himmler Documentary 'Decent One' Reflects Evil of Banality.

A recently discovered cache of hundreds of personal letters, diaries and photos belonging to the Nazi Gestapo chief seems to reveal a thoughtful, loving husband and devoted father to his daughter. The documents first found in the Himmler family house in 1945 were hidden in Tel Aviv for decades and sold to the father of the Israeli documentary filmmaker, Vanessa Lapa. Through readings of Himmler's and his family's most personal writings and rarely seen restored film footage from key German archives, Lapa has fashioned a fascinating case study: a portrait of the man responsible for some of the worst atrocities of the Second World War, who thought of himself in heroic terms.

Himmler Documentary 'Decent One' Reflects Evil of Banality.HT: Forward.
'Decent One' Shows How Ordinary Men Could Become Monsters.
Hannah Arendt’s embattled phrase, “banality of evil,” describing Nazi master murderer Adolf Eichmann, may go a long way to illuminate his colleague in Hitler-era genocide, Heinrich Himmler.

The documentary “The Decent One,” based on a cache of memorabilia including letters, diaries, and photos belonging to this proud Nazi, somehow private since the war, shows him foremost a Catholic family man with a job to do.

Read straightforward in voiceover over black and white archival footage, Himmler’s words, written to parents, wife Marga, and mistress Hedwig, take us into his mindset without judgment or irony.

Filmmaker Vanessa Lapa’s deft juxtaposition of pictures some familiar, as in heaped up bones, with his romantic musings on how these times will be deemed, (“As to what is said about us: These German soldiers — they were decent,”), with Jonathan Sheffer’s evocative score in background, effect a retelling of this history in riveting detail.

The idealistic Himmler rose through the Nazi ranks and further rose to the occasion of mass murder proclaiming it only right, and a duty: “A master race must be able to eliminate those who are inferior.” His early anti-Semitism, from pre-war letters, is, like the old joke, only slightly more than is appropriate, as when he depicts an attractive dancer he met in a café: “There was nothing Jewish in her behavior. She deserved respect.”

He is not keen on homosexuals either, but “the Jews are our misfortune.” Fast forward to the building of concentration camps, a creative solution. He may have experienced a pang of conscience about sending a stolen fur and gold bracelet back home to family, Jewish wealth that should have gone to the Reich. The term “decent” (entshtendlich) — his, sprinkled often in his words — becomes a refrain of self-proclaimed honor.

In Germany’s defeat, Himmler took cyanide two days after capture by the British. Interviewed in 1945, Marga, pained only by her husband’s infidelity, claims he never talked about the camps. Weren’t you interested? Shouldn’t you have asked? Asks an off-screen interrogator.

His daughter Gudrun carried on the important work, assisting Nazi war criminals through the “Silent Aid” organization. Villains rarely think they are bad. In Gudrun’s case, being politically incorrect may just be a way to stay a daddy’s girl, connected to the man and Fatherland she idolized. Himmler’s papers’ remarkable postwar journey could make another movie. This one is a bracing reminder of how monsters are made of ordinary men.

“The Decent One” opens October 1 at Film Forum in NYC.

Regina Weinreich is the author of Kerouac’s Spontaneous Poetics, editor of Kerouac’s Book of Haikus, and co-producer/director of the documentary, “Paul Bowles: The Complete Outsider.” She writes frequently on Holocaust subjects.

Polish Jews Split Over Exhuming Jewish Victims of Nazi era Polish Pogrom.

Source picture here.

Polish Jews Split Over Exhuming  Jewish Victims of Nazi era Polish Pogrom. HT: Forward.
In September 1941, a group of villagers wielding axes and other tools descended upon the homes of their Jewish neighbors and murdered every last one, according to testimonies gathered by Holocaust scholars.
Not much else is known about the massacre in Wasosz, a village 100 miles east of Warsaw, including basics like the number of victims. Current estimates range widely, from 180 to 1,200.

In an effort to provide conclusive forensic evidence about the massacre, in July a Polish prosecutor asked Jewish community leaders for permission to exhume the bodies. The plan has split the community, with some passionately supporting what they see as a last chance for justice and others claiming it would violate the dignity of the dead and Jewish religious law, or halachah.

“Once the bodies are in the ground, halachah teaches us they are not to be disturbed except when it is done to protect the dignity of the dead or to save lives,” Polish Chief Rabbi Michael Schudrich told JTA. “I and other rabbis and the leadership of the Jewish community in Warsaw, among others, feel neither stipulation applies to Wasosz. A desire to clarify history is not enough.”

Piotr Kadlcik, president of the Union of Jewish Religious Communities in Poland, the country’s main Jewish umbrella group, called Schudrich’s position “a serious mistake, with detrimental implications.”

“We have tools to determine details about both victims and perpetrators in a matter which is still a criminal matter,” said Kadlcik, who is seeking an exhumation followed by Jewish burial of the human remains. “If we let this chance go, the case of Wasosz will become history – an unclear one and subject to falsification.”

In a move to undermine opponents to exhumation, Kadlcik has requested an opinion from Rabbi Yakov Ruza, a prominent authority in Israel on forensic medicine. Polish prosecutors have also reviewed the Israeli law that permits exhumation in cases involving a murder investigation, Kadlcik said.

Meanwhile, the Polish Institute of National Remembrance – the government body whose prosecutor, Radoslaw Ignatiew, initiated the investigation of Wasosz – is holding off on any exhumation until at least 2015 while the issue is discussed within the Jewish community.

The debate has ramifications well beyond an internal Jewish dispute over halachah and forensics. In the background are echoes of Jedwabne, an earlier investigation of another wartime mass murder of Jews by Poles.

The opening of that probe in 2001 was a watershed moment for Poland, according to Joanna Michlic, a historian at Bristol University, who wrote a 43-page paper chronicling how the debate split the Catholic Church, generated ultranationalist protests featuring anti-Semitic hate speech, led to the replacement of a memorial plaque that blamed the Germans for the murders and, finally, yielded the first admission by a Polish president of Polish guilt.

Before Jedwabne, Holocaust-era crimes by Poles were taboo because they undermined the communist narrative that all Poles were equal victims of Nazism. The subject remains divisive today because it undermines the current government’s focus on Polish wartime heroism and resistance to totalitarianism.

From a forensic perspective, the dig in Jedwabne was inconclusive. Though an excavation of the site revealed some human remains, it never progressed to include exhumation – as per understandings reached between Polish authorities and rabbis, including Schudrich.

Without exhumation, it was impossible to answer such basic questions as how many people died, which in turn left the door open to revisionism in far-right circles. Several nationalist lawmakers, clergymen and journalists continue to dispute Polish complicity.

“Jedwabne was ultimately a missed opportunity,” Jan Gross, the Princeton historian whose research triggered the 2001 debate, told JTA. “Some important findings were recovered, but questions persisted because the probe was interrupted before basic facts could be recovered.”

For Kadlcik, Wasosz is a chance to correct the opportunity missed at Jedwabne.

“For the ultranationalists, the bottom line from Jedwabne is as follows: The Jews made accusations but hid behind their religious laws at the first attempt to corroborate,” Kadlcik said. “Well, this time we need to settle this and serve justice.”

But Schudrich also drew painful lessons from the Jedwabne probe.
“The entire place was littered with human remains – not just the area where we thought the bodies lay,” he said. “So as soon as the digging began, we saw bones fused together in fire, earrings of little girls. We found children’s bones. To any reasonable person, that settled any doubts there may have been about a massacre. There is no justification to violate the dignity of the dead.”

As for serving justice, Schudrich said, “The perpetrators will get justice from God. The small minority that refuses to face reality and historical evidence, no exhumation is going to change their minds.” Hmmm....The truth must be known, so we learn from our past , NEVER AGAIN.

Archeologists Find Gas Chamber at Sobibor Nazi Death Camp

Archeologists Find Gas Chamber at Sobibor Nazi Death Camp. Dig Uncovers Well-Preserved Nazi Horror. HT: Forward.
An archaeological dig at Sobibor has uncovered the Nazi death camp’s gas chambers.
The excavations in Poland have been going on since 2007, and thousands of inmates’ personal items have been found at the site. They include rings, pendants, earrings, jewelry, perfume bottles, medicine cases and food utensils, Yad Vashem said Wednesday.

The water well used at Sobibor’s Camp 1, in which an uprising by inmates took place, also was discovered. The well also contained the personal items of Jewish inmates.

David Silberklang, senior historian at the International Institute for Holocaust Research and editor in chief of Yad Vashem Studies, called the discovery of the gas chambers “a very important finding in Holocaust research.”

“There were no survivors from among the Jews who worked in the area of the gas chambers. Therefore, these findings are all that is left of those murdered there, and they open a window onto the day-to-day suffering of these people,” he said in a statement.

“We will now be able to know more precisely what the process of murder was in the camp, and what the Jews went through until they were murdered. Additionally, finding the gas chambers and their capacity will enable us to estimate more precisely the number of people murdered in Sobibor.”

Archaeologist Yoram Haimi said the staff was “amazed at the size of the building and the well-preserved condition of the chamber walls.”

The Sobibor camp operated between April 1942 and October 1943, during which time some 250,000 Jews were murdered there. In the wake of the camp uprising on Oct. 14, 1943, the Germans decided to dismantle the camp, bulldozing it and leaving no signs that it was a former death camp.
Until now, researchers used survivor testimony for details about the camp.

Grave Robbers Target Ukraine Holocaust Victims in Hunt for Gold Teeth and Valuables.

Grave Robbers Target Ukraine Holocaust Victims in Hunt for Gold Teeth and Valuables. HT: Forward.
Grave robbers in Ukraine raided the final resting place of Jews executed en masse during the Holocaust, a Kiev-based watchdog on anti-Semitism reported.
The raid occurred on June 20 near Volodymyr-Volynsky, a western city located just north of Lviv, according to Jewish Kiev group which monitors anti-Semitic attacks in Ukraine.

Nazis and local collaborators were responsible for mass executions in Volodymyr-Volynsky, where 18,000 people were buried.

Grave robbers raided the area in 2010 and 2011, according to Vladimir Muzhichenko of the Jewish Kiev group, who complained authorities did little to go after perpetrators.

“There is every reason to believe the desecration will continue,” said Muzhichenko.

The robbers seek gold teeth and valuables that the victims may have carried on their person when German soldiers shot them into trenches that they and locals had dug in advance in 1941.

Muzhichenko called for the placement of memorial plaques near the mass graves, which are currently covered by shrubbery, as a first step toward protecting the graves.More here.

Matisse Painting in Munich Hoarder's Collection Looted by Nazis from French Jewish Owner.

Matisse Painting in Munich Hoarder's Collection Looted by Nazis from French Jewish Owner. HT: Forward.

A painting by Henri Matisse in the collection of Cornelius Gurlitt in Munich was stolen by the Nazis from its Jewish owner, a German task force confirmed.

The confirmation on the work “Seated Woman” was announced Wednesday by the task force set up by the German government to research more than 1,000 works confiscated from Gurlitt’s apartment in 2012 during an investigation for tax evasion.

It is unclear when the heirs of Parisian art collector Paul Rosenberg will see the painting returned.

Gurlitt had inherited the collection from his father, Hildebrand, who was hired by the Nazis to buy art for its museums or to sell for profit.

Ingeborg Berggreen-Merkel, who heads the task force, said in a statement that “though it is not clear how Hildebrand Gurlitt ended up with the painting,” it is clear that “Seated Woman” was ”looted by the Nazis from the collection of its rightful owner, Paul Rosenberg.”

According to German news reports, Matisse created the work in the 1920s. The task force said it was most likely stolen by the Nazis and then bought by a Paris-based art dealer, Gustav Rochlitz, who had a close connection to Hitler’s chief lieutenant, Hermann Goering.

Reportedly, Goring possessed the work for a while. Eventually it reached Hildebrand Gurlitt, who died in 1956.

In March, Cornelius Gurlitt declared his readiness to return the painting to Rosenberg’s heirs, but he died before the negotiations were complete. Meanwhile, another potential claimant surfaced.

Complicating matters further, Gurlitt in his will left the entire collection to the Art Museum Bern Foundation in Switzerland but pledged to return all works identified as having been “stolen or robbed” by the Nazis.

Gurlitt’s court-appointed attorney Christoph Edel said in March that relatively few works in the collection would fall into that category.
The museum has not decided if it will accept the gift.

Files Uncovered: Nazi Veterans Created Illegal Army in Post WWII Germany.

Files Uncovered: Nazi Veterans Created Illegal Army in Post WWII Germany. HT: Spiegel.

Newly discovered documents show that in the years after World War II, former members of the Nazi Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS formed a secret army to protect the country from the Soviets.

The illegal project could have sparked a major scandal at the time.

For nearly six decades, the 321-page file lay unnoticed in the archives of the BND, Germany's foreign intelligence agency -- but now its contents have revealed a new chapter of German postwar history that is as spectacular as it is mysterious.

The previously secret documents reveal the existence of a coalition of approximately 2,000 former officers -- veterans of the Nazi-era Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS -- who decided to put together an army in postwar Germany in 1949.

They made their preparations without a mandate from the German government, without the knowledge of the parliament and, the documents show, by circumventing Allied occupation forces. Read the full story here.

"DISGUSTING" - Nazi Veteran Buried with Full Honors in Estonia.

"DISGUSTING" - Nazi Veteran Buried with Full Honors in Estonia.(RN).
TALLINN, January 10  – Estonia granted a burial with full military honors Friday to a decorated Nazi SS veteran who distinguished himself in combat against Soviet troops during World War II.
Harald Nugiseks, the last surviving Estonian recipient of Nazi Germany's Knight's Cross, died on January 2 at the age of 93.

The history of Estonian collaboration with the Nazis is subject of widespread revulsion in neighboring Russia, but is viewed by many in the Baltic nation as having been a necessity for achieving national independence.

Nugiseks was buried at the Estonian Soldiers Memorial Church in the city of Tori. The ceremony was attended by Brigadier General Meelis Kiili, commander of the Estonian Defense League, retired high-ranking military officers and local officials.

Estonian Defense Minister Urmas Reinsalu earlier expressed condolences to the relatives of the deceased Nazi veteran saying that Nugiseks “was a legendary Estonian soldier whose tragedy was that he could not fight for Estonian freedom in an Estonian uniform.”

Nugiseks joined the Germans as a volunteer in 1941 and later served a soldier in the 20th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Estonian).

He was one of four Estonian recipients of the Third Reich's highest award for battlefield bravery.
Nugiseks became a prisoner of war after his division surrendered in 1945. He was sent to a labor camp in Siberia, from which he returned in 1958.

After Estonia regained its independence in 1991, Nugiseks was given honorary captain rank by the Defense Forces.

An estimated 80,000 Estonians are believed to have fought alongside Nazi German forces during World War II.

Russia has repeatedly condemned glorification of Nazism in Estonia, where reunions of Nazi veterans and parades in honor of former Waffen-SS soldiers are held annually.Hmmm....May God give him his eternal punishment.

The Holocaust in Estonia

Soviet-era Estonian era sources estimate the total number of Soviet citizens and foreigners to be murdered in Nazi-occupied Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic to be 125,000.

The bulk of this number consists Jews from Central and Western Europe and Soviet prisoners-of-war killed or starved to death in prisoner-of-war camps on Estonian territory.

The Estonian History Commission estimates the total number of victims to be roughly 35,000, consisting of the following groups:
  • 1000 Estonian Jews,
  • about 10,000 foreign Jews,
  • 1000 Estonian Roma.
  • 7000 other Estonians.
  • 15,000 Soviet POWs.

88-year-old German charged over Oradour-sur-Glane WWII French massacre.

88-year-old German charged over Oradour-sur-Glane WWII French massacre.(RT).

Oradour-sur-Glane, a village in central France, was the site of the horrific SS attack. Women and children were rounded up and imprisoned in a church while the village was looted, the men divided into four groups, taken to barns and machine-gunned down. Many of the victims were set alight in the barns.

A full 190 men were killed. A further 247 women and 205 children died after an explosive was set off in the church, which subsequently went up in flames.
The unnamed German, 19 at the time of the massacre, was indicted over taking part in gunning down the men.
“The prosecutor's office in Dortmund has charged an 88-year-old pensioner from Cologne over the murder of 25 people committed by a group, and with aiding and abetting the murder of several hundred people,” said a statement released by the Cologne prosecutor’s office on Wednesday.
He was also deemed complicit in the deaths of the women and children as he “provided a guard near the church,” the court heard.Read the full story here.

75th anniversary of the infamous 'Kristallnacht' new accounts how it Shocked Foreign Diplomats.

Here, a member of the SA posts a sign on a Jewish shop urging Germans not to buy from Jews.

75th anniversary of the infamous 'Kristallnacht' new accounts how it Shocked Foreign Diplomats.HT: Spiegel.
In the days surrounding Nov. 9, 1938, the Nazis committed the worst pogrom Germany had seen since the Middle Ages. To mark the incident's 75th anniversary, an exhibition in Berlin gathers previously unknown reports by foreign diplomats, revealing how the shocking events prompted little more than condemnation.
Consul-General Robert Townsend Smallbones had already seen much of the world. He had been in Angola, Norway and Croatia, and he had spent eight years in Germany with the British diplomatic corps. Despite the Nazi dictatorship, the 54-year-old held Germans in high esteem. They were "habitually kind to animals, to children, to the aged and infirm. They seemed to me to have no cruelty in their makeup," Smallbones wrote in a report to the British Foreign Office.

Given his impression of the Germans, the representative of the British Empire was all the more astonished by what he experienced in early November 1938. In Paris, Herschel Grünspan, a 17-year-old Jewish refugee from the northern German city of Hanover, had shot the German diplomat Ernst vom Rath in an act of protest against Hitler's policies regarding the Jews. At first, the Nazis only hunted down Jews in the Hesse region of Germany, surrounding Frankfurt. But, after Rath's death on Nov. 9, the pogroms spread throughout the German Reich, where synagogues were burned, Jewish shop windows were smashed and thousands were taken to concentration camps and mistreated.

Smallbones reported from Frankfurt that Jews had been taken to a large building and forced to kneel and place their heads on the ground. After some of them had vomited, Smallbones writes, the "guards removed the vomit by taking the culprit by the scruff of the neck and wiping it away with his face and hair." According to Smallbones' account, after a few hours, the victims were taken to the Buchenwald concentration camp, where many were tortured and a few beaten to death. The prisoners were even forced to urinate into each other's mouths. This was one of the details Smallbones learned from a golfing partner, a German Jew, after the latter's release from Buchenwald.

"I flattered myself that I understood the German character," the consul-general wrote, but added that he had not expected this "outbreak of sadistic cruelty."

The pogroms in November 1938 lasted several days, although history books often refer to the event merely as one "Night of the Broken Glass" (Kristallnacht) because Nazi propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels announced on the radio on Nov. 10 that the excesses had ended. Experts estimate that up to 1,500 people died in the days surrounding Nov. 9. It was the worst pogrom in Germany since the Middle Ages.Read the full story here.

The 'Magnitude ' of The Holocaust Just Got More Shocking.

In some of these 'dots' relatives of mine died in inhuman conditions , two survived thank God to tell.

The 'Magnitude ' of The Holocaust Just Got More Shocking.HT: NewYorkTimes.
THIRTEEN years ago, researchers at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum began the grim task of documenting all the ghettos, slave labor sites, concentration camps and killing factories that the Nazis set up throughout Europe.

What they have found so far has shocked even scholars steeped in the history of the Holocaust.

The researchers have cataloged some 42,500 Nazi ghettos and camps throughout Europe, spanning German-controlled areas from France to Russia and Germany itself, during Hitler’s reign of brutality from 1933 to 1945.

The figure is so staggering that even fellow Holocaust scholars had to make sure they had heard it correctly when the lead researchers previewed their findings at an academic forum in late January at the German Historical Institute in Washington.

“The numbers are so much higher than what we originally thought,” Hartmut Berghoff, director of the institute, said in an interview after learning of the new data.

“We knew before how horrible life in the camps and ghettos was,” he said, “but the numbers are unbelievable.”

The documented camps include not only “killing centers” but also thousands of forced labor camps, where prisoners manufactured war supplies; prisoner-of-war camps; sites euphemistically named “care” centers, where pregnant women were forced to have abortions or their babies were killed after birth; and brothels, where women were coerced into having sex with German military personnel.

Auschwitz and a handful of other concentration camps have come to symbolize the Nazi killing machine in the public consciousness. Likewise, the Nazi system for imprisoning Jewish families in hometown ghettos has become associated with a single site — the Warsaw Ghetto, famous for the 1943 uprising. But these sites, infamous though they are, represent only a minuscule fraction of the entire German network, the new research makes painfully clear.

The maps the researchers have created to identify the camps and ghettos turn wide sections of wartime Europe into black clusters of death, torture and slavery — centered in Germany and Poland, but reaching in all directions. When the research began in 2000, Dr. Megargee said he expected to find perhaps 7,000 Nazi camps and ghettos, based on postwar estimates. But the numbers kept climbing — first to 11,500, then 20,000, then 30,000, and now 42,500.

The numbers astound: 30,000 slave labor camps; 1,150 Jewish ghettos; 980 concentration camps; 1,000 prisoner-of-war camps; 500 brothels filled with sex slaves; and thousands of other camps used for euthanizing the elderly and infirm, performing forced abortions, “Germanizing” prisoners or transporting victims to killing centers.

In Berlin alone, researchers have documented some 3,000 camps and so-called Jew houses, while Hamburg held 1,300 sites.

Dr. Dean, a co-researcher, said the findings left no doubt in his mind that many German citizens, despite the frequent claims of ignorance after the war, must have known about the widespread existence of the Nazi camps at the time.

“You literally could not go anywhere in Germany without running into forced labor camps, P.O.W. camps, concentration camps,” he said. “They were everywhere.”Hmmmm........'Wir haben es nicht gewußt'...'We did not know'....YES you did know.He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr. Read the full story here.

Video - U.S. Linguist Noam Chomsky Compares Colin Powell to Von Ribbentrop and the U.S. to Nazi Germany.

U.S. Linguist Noam Chomsky Compares Colin Powell to Von Ribbentrop and the U.S. to Nazi Germany.

Following are excerpts from a show featuring American linguist Noam Chomsky, which aired on Press TV and was posted on the Internet on January 29, 2013.

Interviewer: How important was the principle of "starting a war of aggression," as we talked about earlier, or a "crime against peace," in the proceedings at Nuremberg that led to the hanging on many Nazis? Can the International Criminal Court prosecute these crimes?

Noam Chomsky: Yes, it was a major factor in the hanging of Nazi war criminals. In fact, if you look closely, it seems more pertinent to the present. So von Ribbentrop, the Foreign Minister – one of the charges against him was that he supported a preemptive war against Norway. The Nazis knew that the British were thinking of invading from Norway, so they preempted it and established a quisling government there. That was one of the crimes against von Ribbentrop.

How about Colin Powell? He justified a preemptive war against no threat. So if von Ribbentrop was hanged...You know...Okay, fill it out. [...]

There was one interesting response [to the targeted killing of Osama Bin Laden] from a well-known, left liberal, young political analyst, Matthew Yglesias, who said this was extremely naïve, because the whole purpose of international law is to legitimize the use of force by the Western Powers – meaning the United States. Well, he is not wrong. It's nice to have somebody say the words. But what he is saying is: "Look, forget all the rhetoric. This is pure farce. We are just like the Nazis. We do what we like." Youngest 'Schindler's List' survivor dies at 83 in Southern California.

Youngest 'Schindler's List' survivor dies at 83 in Southern California.(CNSnews).Leon Leyson, who was the youngest of 1,100 Jews saved from the Nazis by Oscar Schindler, has died in Southern California at 83.
His daughter, Stacy Wilfong, tells the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/WUllpf ) that Leyson died Saturday in Whittier from lymphoma.
Leyson was nearly 10 when Germany invaded Poland in 1939. He lost two brothers during the Holocaust but was protected by Schindler and at 13 worked in his factory. Dubbed "Little Leyson," he was so short that he stood on a box to operate machinery.
He later moved to the U.S. and taught at Huntington Park High School for 39 years.
Leyson rarely spoke of his experiences until the 1993 movie "Schindler's List" sparked renewed interest. He then embarked on a public speaking career to share his story.
Two of his brothers were killed. Older brother Hershel had fled to the family's village and died in a massacre of its 500 residents.
Another brother, Tsalig, was taken from the ghetto and placed on a train to a concentration camp. In "Schindler's List," the Steven Spielberg movie based on the book by Thomas Keneally, Schindler is shown getting on the train to save his accountant. He recognized Leyson's brother and tried to save him, but the 16-year-old refused to budge because he was with his girlfriend, who was not on Schindler's list of employees.
"Leon could never make it through this painful part of his talk without breaking down," but didn't stop there because of "his determination and tenacity to keep telling the story," said William Elperin, president of the 1939 Club, an organization of Holocaust survivors and descendants.
After seeing the movie at a screening, Leyson was awed, particularly by scenes showing boys running from the Nazi commandos. "It was like having an out-of-body experience," he told The Times, "because those little kids who were … trying to get away from the Sondercommando — that was me. That was my friends."Hmmm........."Never Again".Read the full story here, more here.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman: "World would have no problem sacrificing us."

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman: "World would have no problem sacrificing us."(JPost).
When push comes to shove, many world leaders would sacrifice Israel to appease Islamist radicals and buy quiet “without batting an eyelash,” Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman said Wednesday at The Jerusalem Post Diplomatic Conference.
The Foreign Minister said that all the promises and expressions of commitment to Israel’s security from various leaders around the world reminds him of 1938 Czechoslovakia when the country, with international guarantees, were pressured to sacrifice national interests. The Nazis then quickly overran the country. Israel, he said, “will not be a second Czechoslovakia.”
Liberman said that while the obsession of the international community with the Palestinian issue was “difficult to understand, he added it has to do with “annoyance” at seeing one successful democratic nation in the region thriving economically despite the global fiscal crisis.
Liberman says that time after time the international community denounces brutality in various countries in the region, from Afghanistan to Syria, and that because of “oil interests” they then try to balance that criticism by denouncing Israel.
Referring to the recent international outcry over announced settlement plans, Liberman told the diplomats at the conference that all settlement construction is taking place within existing communities, and that no new settlement has been authorized since 1991.
He also said that Israel has done “simulations” of what would happen if it returned to the 1967 lines, and concluded that the scenario would lead to rockets and missiles on Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.Hmmm....A breeze of fresh air in the stench of PC.Read and see (Video) the full story here.

Archbishop Tutu: Please, Apologize to the Jews.

Archbishop Tutu: Please, Apologize to the Jews.(TheAmericanInterest).
The website of the Free Gaza Movement, a sponsor of the Gaza Flotilla, lists some impressive celebrity endorsements. One of the most impressive names on the list is that of Desmond Tutu, revered throughout the world for his courageous stand against South Africa’s apartheid government and for his leadership of initiatives like the Truth and Reconciliation Commission which did so much to heal the wounds apartheid left behind.
But there was something the Free Gaza Movement didn’t tell the archbishop: its co-founder and board chair is a Jew-hater named Greta Berlin who uses the organization as a platform form which to spread the ugliest anti-Semitic legends and, literally, Nazi propaganda and lies.
The Free Gaza Movement wants you to think that it is a group of humanitarians stirred to action by Israeli crimes against the Palestinians. But Berlin is something much nastier: a conscious propagandist of anti-Semitic hate — the kind of person with whom no Christian clergyman can associate himself in a common cause without causing grave scandal and harm.
On Sunday, the Free Gaza Movement posted this on its Twitter Feed: “Zionists operated the concentration camps and helped murder millions of innocent Jews” with a link to this awful video.
This is not anti-Zionism. It is not criticism of Israel or defense of Palestinian rights. It is not in the gray zone: it is ugly filth of the lowest kind, gutter anti-Semitism mixed with genocidal rage. The very word “Nazi,” tweeted the movement, is a combination of NAtionalist and ZIonist. Simple, really, once you see through the Jewish lies to understand the Jewish-Hitler alliance for what it really was.
As Avi Mayer tracked the story, it became clear that this was no low level employee or hot headed volunteer playing games with the Free Gaza Twitter feed. The film endorsed and linked in the tweet got another link — on the Facebook page Greta Berlin. She was so in love with this nastiness that she wanted to share it with her friends.
But this doesn’t exhaust the pro-Nazi activities of this “humanitarian” movement. The Free Gaza Movement is also touting an anti-Semitic film actually produced under the Propaganda Ministry of Joseph Goebbels during the Third Reich itself: a Nazi propaganda film on the Katyn massacre that tried to whip up hatred against Communists and Jews. And here, too, Greta Berlin, that exquisite connoisseur of cinema and tender-hearted lover of mankind, was so thrilled with this Goebbels’ hard-hitting investigative journalism and fearless proclamation of the truth that she posted a link to a download on her Facebook account.
As this information came out, the “Free Gaza Movement” frantically tried to bury the evidence, taking down the tweets, blocking access to Facebook posts, but it was too late. Screenshots, retweets and Google caches left its pale underbelly exposed.
Obviously Archbishop Tutu had no idea he was getting in bed with Nazi-class Jew haters and aspiring genocidaires when he allowed the Free Gaza Movement the use of his name. Greta Berlin presumably doesn’t wear her Nazi-loving heart on her sleeve when mingling with the Great and the Good and trying to pass herself off as a respectable humanitarian. But because of his enormous global stature and the contentious nature of this particular issue, the archbishop had a duty to himself, to the world and to the Anglican Communion to vet the organization before offering his support.
Now that the truth is known, the Archbishop must move quickly to avoid causing grave harm to Christian-Jewish relations and the cause of justice around the world. He must express his regret to those Christians and Jews who have been hurt and confused by his inadvertent dalliance with hate. The longer he waits, the greater the scandal. He has every right to criticize Israeli policies in Gaza and to do what he can to promote what he believes to be a just outcome in the Israeli-Palestinian dispute. But Archbishop Tutu’s entire public career has been built on the repudiation of hate. He cannot, at this stage in his life, allow his name — or that of his Church — to be slimed in this way.
Via Meadia hopes that we will soon hear from South Africa that Archbishop Tutu has scraped this particular piece of dirt from the soles of his shoes. In the meantime we hope that other Anglican and Christian leaders around the world will move quickly to reassure Jews that Christians everywhere want nothing to do with this poor woman’s horrid agenda and her nasty hate campaign.
If the Archbishop — or any Via Meadia readers — want more details about this sordid story, they should go to Avi Mayer’s Storify account and read the whole thing.

http://www.exopolitics.org.uk

For the first time, the legendary 2006 Russian documentary 'Third Reich - Operation UFO' in its entirety, fully translated into English and available for free viewing. Many thanks to Irina Du Toit for the translation and the saucer people for the subtitles. The film explores the historical mysteries and rumours of a Nazi secret base in Antarctica, the 1947 flying saucer attack on Admiral Byrd's ill-fated 'Operation Highjump' expedition and the occult origins of Third Reich anti-gravity engines, flying discs and ancient Atlantean technologies viewed through the lens of perhaps the three most mysterious twentieth century German organisations of all: the 'Thule Society, 'Vril Society' and the 'Ahnenerbe' One of the core themes of the film is the alleged existence of 'Base 211', the legendary underground Nazi base in the Antarctica. What sets this documentary apart from most others of its kind is the inclusion of high ranking Russian scientists and military personnel and their testimony should not be discounted.
