Jerusalem Mayor: ‘We Will Not Stop’ Until Hamas Is Defeated.

Jerusalem Mayor: ‘We Will Not Stop’ Until Hamas Is Defeated.(NM).
Israel will not stop its rocket attacks and ground offensive in Gaza until Hamas is unable to continue firing rockets at Israel, Yerushalayim Mayor Nir Barkat says. “With all due respect, it’s not a symmetrical war,” Barkat said Monday on Fox News Channel’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto.”
“Unfortunately, there’s terrorists who have no clue what honest means, what the Geneva Convention means. And we will hunt them and kill them before they kill us.”

Barkat told Cavuto that Israel is trying to pinpoint as much as possible and not hit innocent children, but that is difficult when Hamas bases its rockets under schools, then tells people to ignore Israel’s warnings of retaliation.

“Well, we’ll do even more to target the terrorists and the militants using their children as protective shields and hitting our children,” Barkat responded. “We will continue with force to hit the militants. We will not stop until we are sure that they cannot fire missiles,” he said.

“If they hide behind children, we will warn them once, warn them twice, and go after terrorists. And God forbid, take those innocent children of innocent people away, because we will not stop.”

Israel - Golani soldier Oron Shaul caught in Gaza ambush is MIA.

Israel - Golani soldier Oron Shaul caught in Gaza ambush is MIA. (TOI).
In carefully worded statement, IDF says the remains of only 6 of the 7 soldiers ambushed in Shejaiya Sunday have been identified.
The IDF has identified only six of the seven soldiers caught in a deadly ambush in Gaza City’s Shejaiya area earlier this week, the army announced Tuesday. The seventh soldier, named Tuesday afternoon as Oron Shaul, would appear to be missing in action. There is no definitive evidence of whether he is alive or dead

The identification process of six of the soldiers killed has been completed and confirmed,” the army said in a statement. “The efforts to identify the seventh soldier are ongoing and have yet to be determined.”

The announcement came several days after Hamas announced that it had abducted a soldier. “The Israeli soldier [name deleted] is in the hands of the Qassam Brigades,” a Hamas spokesman said more than 12 hours after the battle.

The army released the names of the six confirmed dead soldiers: Sgt. Max Steinberg, 24, originally from Los Angeles; First Sgt. Shahar Tase, 20, from Pardesiya; First Sgt. Daniel Pomerantz, 20, from Kfar Azar; Sgt. Shon Mondshein, 19, from Tel Aviv; Sgt. Ben Yitzhak Oanounou, 19, from Ashdod; and First Sgt. Oren Simcha Noach, 22, from Hoshaya.Read the full story here.

Washington Post: Shifa Hospital in Gaza City ‘Has Become a De Facto Headquarters for Hamas Leadership.

Washington Post: Shifa Hospital in Gaza City ‘Has Become a De Facto Headquarters for Hamas Leadership, Who Can Be Seen in Hallways and Offices’. (Algemeiner).

Contrary to international rules of warfare, Hamas has commandeered a large hospital in Gaza City as its “de facto headquarters,” the Washington Post reported.
Buried eight paragraphs in,The Post’s correspondent, William Booth, wrote on July 15:
“At the Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, crowds gathered to throw shoes and eggs at the Palestinian Authority’s health minister, who represents the crumbling ‘unity government’ in the West Bank city of Ramallah. The minister was turned away before he reached the hospital, which has become a de facto headquarters for Hamas leaders, who can be seen in the hallways and offices.”
Last week, The Post also reported, and also included near the end of an article, how Hamas was hiding rockets inside of a mosque, also against international rules of war. On Friday, buried toward’s the end of The Post’s dispatch from the front, one of its correspondents reported actually seeing rockets being moved into the mosque during Thursday’s five-hour humanitarian ceasefire:
“During the lull, a group of men at a mosque in northern Gaza said they had returned to clean up the green glass from windows shattered in the previous day’s bombardment. But they could be seen moving small rockets into the mosque.”
According to international rules of military engagement,  civilian public and religious buildings cannot to be used to shield weapons, but that has been a long-held Hamas tactic in Gaza.

On Thursday, UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, said it discovered 20 rockets hidden in a vacant school it operated in Gaza.

UNRWA said the rockets were discovered during a “regular inspection” and that it immediately “informed the relevant parties and successfully took all necessary measures for the removal of the objects in order to preserve the safety and security of the school.”

The UNRWA came under criticism on social media for handing the rockets back to the “relevant parties,” who readers interpreted as being the Hamas militants who hid the arms in the school.

Egyptian Court rules Gaza tunnels threaten national security .

Egyptian Court rules Gaza tunnels threaten national security.(IMRA).The Cairo Administrative Court ruled Tuesday that smuggling tunnels between Egypt and the Gaza Strip pose a threat to national security and should therefore be destroyed.

The court said the tunnels are not controlled by the state, which makes them illegal. The Armed Forces said earlier this month that a crackdown on smuggling tunnels will continue due to security concerns.

Armed Forces spokesperson Ahmed Mohamed Ali estimates that there are around 225 tunnels.
The tunnels are used to smuggle merchandise between the two territories due to an Israeli blockade implemented in 2007 when Hamas took power.

Israel has called on Egypt to destroy the tunnels, fearing that weapons were being smuggling to militant groups.

Hamas condemned the decision to flood smuggling tunnels linking Sinai and Gaza last week. "The movement reviewed the issue of the destruction of tunnels with Egyptian officials and hopes that officials in Egypt understand the situation in Gaza and the need for these tunnels," Hamas leader Salah al-Bardaweel said in a statement.Read the full story here.
