At Israel’s request, the European Union may formulate a clear definition of anti-Semitism in a bid to better fight the phenomenon, the EU’s new point person for combating Jew-hatred said.

“The definition of anti-Semitism is very disputed, even among Jews themselves. The main dissent revolves around the question of manifestations against the State of Israel. We’re currently looking into this issue,” Katharina von Schnurbein told The Times of Israel in a telephone interview last week from Brussels. “One thing is clear: Anti-Semitism can sometimes hide behind anti-Zionism. That is certainly our understanding here.”

During the meet, Israel asked the EU to adopt a formal definition of anti-Semitism, said Akiva Tor, who heads the Foreign Ministry’s bureau for world Jewish affairs and world religions. “This would enable better monitoring and better law enforcement,” he told The Times of Israel on Monday.

“We also expressed our view that any formal definition of anti-Semitism must include the issue of delegitimization of Israel and the denial of Israel’s right to exist as forms of anti-Semitism,” he said. “We found the EU quite attentive and we look forward to working with them further on it.”

Israel, however, did not ask the EU to define support for the anti-Israel BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement as anti-Semitic, aware that calls for a boycott arise from a variety of sentiments and generally fall under the right for free speech, and thus are unlikely to be outlawed.

“When the right of the existence of Israel is doubted — that is a clear case [of anti-Semitism],” Schnurbein said. “But as I said, this definition itself is not easy, also for Jews. We’re looking into this issue.”

In 2013, the EU’s agency for fighting racism suddenly dropped its definition of anti-Semitism — which included vilification of Israel — from its website, drawing criticism from Jewish groups.

“It was a working definition that was put on the website of the Fundamental Rights Agency, which is under the umbrella of the European Union institutions but is independent. For different reasons, they decided to take it off,” she said.

“That is worrying. The Commission fully understands the concern of the Jewish community and we take them seriously,” she said. “Anti-Semitism, no matter how marginal, is never acceptable. Turkish media is reporting that this year’s annual Muslim Fair in Brussels has attracted thousands of visitors. According to the report:

A fair organized by Muslims in Belgian capital Brussels has attracted thousands of visitors at its stands mainly theming clothes, accessories, halal food and natural cosmetics as well as Rabia movement (a civil movement protesting against the military coup in Egypt) and resistance against Syria’s brutal regime. Organizers think the fair will reach a total visitors number of 25 thousand by the end of tomorrow, the final day of the fair.

The Muslim Fair aiming the struggle against Islamaphobia and intercultural dialogue is being held at Brussels’s historic Tour & Taxi Cultural Centre.

The fair is also an opportunity for the visitors to meet and listen to speeches from intellectuals and scholars from Europe and the Arab world including Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Sudan on several topics like reform in Islam, refugee crisis in Europe, message of the Quran.

The 4-day fair was organised by the League of Muslims in Belgium in collaboration with Gedis Company which is based in Paris.

Islamic Relief, a humanitarian organization, has established a refugee tent to draw attention to the living conditions of Syrian refugees at camps. A Palestinian humanitarian organization has opened a stand to receive donations for Palestinians in need. They are running a campaign for Gazan children with the motto "Do you want to change the life of a Gazan child?" The organization also carries out campaigns for Palestinians living in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon.

The program for this year’s Fair indicates that numerous Muslim Brotherhood figures were scheduled to speak including:

• Abdallah Ben Mansour (President of the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe)

• Issam El Bashir (Sudanese, European Council for Fatwa and Research)

• Hassan Iquioussen (leader in the Union des Organisations Islamiques de France)

Also scheduled to speak were two Salafi figures-  Abdullah al Mosleh,  Chairman of the International Commission on Scientific Signs in Qur’an & Sunnah in Makkah and Omar Abdelkafy, an Egyptian cleric who recently made controversial remarks about the 911 attacks. Politico reports that Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid asked the White House to make commitment after Netanyahu won re-election in March and after Iran nuclear deal reached in July.

Politico said its report was confirmed by White House officials and Senate aides.

According to the US news outlet, Reid's requests came as he was trying to line up Democratic support for the Iran nuclear agreement reached on July 14 and "give nervous Democrats cover to back the deal."

But this was not the first time that Reid approached the White House requesting that it back Israel at the UN and failed to receive his sought after response.

In March, the Obama administration indicated that it was reconsidering its historically staunch support of Israel at the United Nations and had not automatically accepted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement to the American media affirming his support of two states for two peoples after pre-election comments that appeared to reject it.

At this time, Reid first approached McDonough and asked that the president reverse his position.

McDonough said the White House “would look into it,” but took no action, a source close to the issue told Politico.

Reid’s office declined to comment on the report.

According to Politico, Obama administration officials said that the president's decision not to go public with the administration’s position "isn’t meant to exert leverage over Netanyahu, as something to trade to get him back to the negotiating table with the Palestinians."

The officials also said that the administration is "not holding out on a presidential declaration to preserve a future olive branch to improve a relationship between Washington and Jerusalem." For the first time since taking office in 2009, US President Barack Obama failed to mention the Israeli-Palestinian conflict during his annual address to the UN General Assembly in New York.

Last year, as he stood at the same podium, Obama assured the international community that as “bleak as the landscape” appeared to be in the Middle East, America would “never give up the pursuit of peace” between Israelis and Palestinians.

But on Monday, during his 43 minute speech to the UNGA, the president was suddenly silent on the matter, awakening Israeli fears that his attention will be elsewhere in the last year-and-a-half of his presidency.

The European Parliament passed a non-binding resolution Thursday calling on the European Union to differentiate "between Israel and its activities in the occupied Palestinian Territory" and to ensure “that all agreements between the EU and Israel must unequivocally and explicitly indicate their inapplicability to the territories occupied by Israel in 1967.”

The resolution, which passed by 525 votes to 70, with 31 abstentions, calls on EU foreign policy chief Federica Mussolini Mogherini “to take the lead within the Commission with a view to completing the work on EU-wide guidelines on the labeling of Israeli settlement produce.”

The Israeli Foreign Ministry lashed out against the move, saying, “The State of Israel views the parliament’s decision with severity, in particular the call for labeling products. The process of labeling is discriminatory, and reeks of a boycott."

Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon said that the EU motion was "discriminatory with a sharp smell of boycott," adding that "under the guise of a technical procedure, this is an attempt to force a diplomatic solution instead of encouraging the Palestinians to return to the negotiating table."

He added: "Europe treats Israel with sanctimonious hypocrisy, while it doesn’t raise the issue of similar solutions in Northern Cyprus and Western Sahara."

Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely responded to the decision by saying: “We need to call a spade a spade: marking products is a boycott.

"The state of Israel will not allow any body to discriminate between products that are produced by citizens of Israel and within Israel's territory,” she added. “The attempts to advance some kind of arrangement through unilateral moves, especially when this involves labeling products, will end up achieving nothing and leading nowhere.”

Hotovely said that immediately after Rosh Hashana, she intends to hold an urgent session on the matter with the Europe Section of the ministry, and launch a diplomatic campaign against the EU initiative to label products. Hmmm.....The 1930's are back.

The U.N. wants the world to believe that Israel is leading the globe in human rights violations, partly as a result of the shameless propaganda war perpetrated by Hamas during and since the war in the Gaza Strip last summer.

The war was precipitated by numerous Hamas and Palestinian terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians, the last straw being the bloody massacre of an entire Israeli family, including their newborn baby.

Only the uninformed could pass judgement on Israel for the unavoidable collateral damage on civilians which any warring state has been guilty of ranging from minimal to egregious. The United States is no stranger to civilian collateral damage. We routinely kill civilians as a result of our drone executions which take place near daily all over the Middle East. How does the U.S. handle the repercussions of killing civilians in order to execute high-value targets? We pay them cash money. In the Mideast, it's referred to as "blood money", and in Islam, paying that debt brings balance to the scales of justice.

In 2014 alone, Obama authorized 357 air strikes in Pakistan. These figures are noninclusive of the multitudes of drone strikes which are a fact of life for citizens in several Mideast countries; including, Yemen, Syria, and Iraq, among others. The 2014 official Pakistani deaths by drone reported was between 2,410 - 3,902; 416-959 civilians; 168-204 children; 1,133 - 1,706 injured.

During the 2014 Gaza Strip conflict, an estimated 2,200 casualties were reported, many of them civilians that were used as human shields by their own leaders.

The fact is, collateral damage is not a war crime, but a harsh reality that must be accepted in a world in which conflict and war is a part of human nature. Unfortunately for Israel, her enemies have demonstrated for years their willingness to sacrifice their own civilians in exchange for uninformed global pity and empathy that will one day lead to global indignation against Israel. 

Sadly, that strategy has had limited success until recent years; coinciding with the Obama presidency and global anti-Semitism, the likes of which haven't been seen since the holocaust." Read the full story here.

The EU is acting illegally by funding unauthorised Palestinian building in areas placed under Israeli control by international law, say an NGO, international lawyers and MEPs.

More than 400 EU-funded Palestinian homes have been erected in Area C of the West Bank, which was placed under Israeli jurisdiction during the Oslo Accords – a part of international law to which the EU is a signatory.

The Palestinian buildings, which have no permits, come at a cost of tens of millions of Euros in public money, a proportion of which comes from the British taxpayer.

This has raised concerns that the EU is using valuable resources to take sides in a foreign territorial dispute.

Official EU documentation reveals that the building project is intended to ‘pave the way for development and more authority of the PA over Area C (the Israeli area)’, which some experts say is an attempt to unilaterally affect facts on the ground.

Locally, the villages are known as the ‘EU Settlements’, and can be found in 17 locations around the West Bank.

They proudly fly the EU flag, and display hundreds of EU stickers and signs. Some also bear the logos of Oxfam and other NGOs, which have assisted in the projects.

Questions have also been asked about the conduct of EU workers in the region, after a picture emerged of a man in EU uniform threatening soldiers and bystanders with a rock outside a settlement in 2012. An EU spokesperson declined to comment on the picture. Read the full story here.

An unnamed Palestinian man sought to recruit a US citizen to assassinate Barack Obama when the US president visited Israel and the West Bank in March 2013, Israel police said on Tuesday.

The American, Adam Livix, was indicted in Tel Aviv on Tuesday on a separate matter, for charges that include an attempt to buy plastic explosives from Israeli soldiers with the apparent intention of harming Muslim holy sites.

Israel Police said that Livix, who lived in Hebron and Bethlehem in 2013, was asked at that time by a Palestinian operative if he would assassinate Obama with a sniper’s rifle during the president’s visit, but he refused to do so. No reference to this allegation was made in the charge sheet released Tuesday.

“Adam Levix came to the region in 2013 and lived in Palestinian Authority territory in Hebron and Bethlehem,” Israel Police said in a statement.

“In the course of his stay in Bethlehem, a Palestinian activist suggested to him that he assassinate President Barack Obama, who was visiting Israel at the time, with a sniper’s rifle that would be procured for him. Adam refused this suggestion.”

Livix, a Christian from Texas who pretended to be a Navy Seal, is wanted in the US for questioning regarding drug violations and has been in Israel Police custody since November 19, the police said. Hmmm....Why would they kill their greatest ally?Read the full story here.

The International Criminal Court has officially granted Palestinians observer status at the Court’s summit of 122 member countries on Monday.

The move, which has repeatedly been promised by the Palestinians, is a step toward joining the world's permanent war crimes tribunal. The Hague-based ICC is an independent organization and is not part of the United Nations system.

U.N. ambassador to Palestine Riyad Mansour, said his government is moving in that direction "but that's another step in that process," and the timing will be decided by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Previously, Abbas has vowed to seek membership in the ICC in order to press charges against Israel for alleged war crimes.

The Palestinians officially accepted their observer status at opening session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute that established the ICC. The summit will last for two weeks.

"The Palestinians have been promising to join the court but have repeatedly delayed action," Balkees Jarrah, international justice counsel at Human Rights Watch, told The Associated Press. "We've been calling on them to join the court which could open up the prospect of justice for serious crimes by all sides."

Tina Intelmann, the assembly's outgoing president, read a list of states that have not signed or ratified the statute that requested to participate as observers including Russia, China, India and the state of Palestine. With a bang of the gavel, all those on the list were approved by consensus.

Speaking at Brookings Institution forum on the Middle East, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said on Saturday there was a "less than even shot" of a nuclear deal with Iran.

“We will not let Iran acquire a nuclear weapon -- period," he said. "End of discussion. Not on our watch."

Biden who opposes talk of more sanctions against the Iranian regime said the sanctions imposed by the United States and allies were working by slowing Iran's economy, as well as its nuclear program.

"It's frozen the program, it's given us a shot for a peaceful solution," he said. "I tell you, I think it's a less than even shot but it's a shot, nonetheless."

Meanwhile the Iranian regime denied reports that Tehran had made significant concessions in exchange for extending talks on its nuclear program.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran was quoted by the state-run Fars News Agency: “The conditions for extending the nuclear negotiations to July 1, 2015 were like the conditions reining the extension of the previous deadlines and no new undertaking has been added to it.”

Hamas politburo chief Khaled Mashaal has blamed the rise of terror in Jerusalem and in Israel as a whole on a "spontaneous reaction to Israeli stubbornness," in an interview with Sky News Friday morning.

Mashaal, who gave his first interview since Operation Protective Edge in Gaza and spoke from Hamas headquarters in Qatar, blamed Israel and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for the security situation, claiming - as other Palestinian Arab leaders have - that Israel's continuing to build on its own land "provoked" the attacks.

"The Palestinian people no longer have anything to lose in light of the continuation of the occupation and settlements, stealing the land, the attacks on the women and children and the holy sites," he said.

"The reaction is spontaneous...the Israeli stubbornness, combined with the international impotence in solving the Palestinian issue with a just solution, which gives the Palestinian people their self-determination, and gets rid of occupation...will lead to chaos in the region, not just in the Palestinian arena, but to an open conflict - a blood-bath." Hmmm ...Some 'peace partner. The United Nations’ food agency has announced that it is suspending its food programme serving more than 1.7 million Syrian refugees because it has run out of money.

The World Food Programme (WFP) said on Monday that it “immediately needs” at least $64m in December alone to support the displaced Syrians now living in neighbouring countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey.

“A suspension of WFP food assistance will endanger the health and safety of these refugees and will potentially cause further tensions, instability and insecurity in the neighbouring host countries,” said WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin, in an appeal to donors.

“The suspension of WFP food assistance will be disastrous for many already suffering families.”

Since the war in Syria began in 2011, over three million people have fled to neighbouring countries.

Under the UN programme, the refugees use vouchers to buy food in local shops. The UN provides basics like flour, cooking oil and sugar. But it also gives vital food vouchers to pregnant and nursing mothers.

“Without WFP vouchers, many families will go hungry. For refugees already struggling to survive the harsh winter, the consequences of halting this assistance will be devastating,” the UN said.

Every month, the UN feeds over four million people inside Syria, and over a million more now temporarily sheltered in other countries.

Muhannad Hadi, the UN coordinator of the food programme, told Al Jazeera the refugees would face a harsh winter without support from the world body.

“It’s definitely a catastrophe,” he said, speaking from the Jordanian capital Amman. “If we cannot deliver the food voucher, they simply would not be able to eat.”

“We are asking the world [to help]. This is an international crisis.”

There is only so much international aid to go around, and one reason why the World Food Program is running out of money is because the bloated, superfluous UNRWA keeps on manufacturing its own “crises” every couple of months to keep its own cash flow coming.

Last week, UNRWA declared an “emergency” because of flooding in Gaza that did not kill or injure a single person.

While the WFP needs some $64 million a month to stop people from starving, UNRWA is demanding $1.6 billion from the international community on top of $300 million it demanded earlier this year.

While Syrian refugees cannot eat, UNRWA goes fundraising in Japan and Azerbaijan.

Even crazier is that UNRWA also solicits money for the relatively small percentage of Syrian refugees who fall under its mandate. Rather than a single UN fundraising effort for all Syrian refugees to ensure fair distribution, UNRWA has a separate program because the UN makes a distinction between refugees who happen to have some ancestors who lived in British Mandate Palestine in 1947 and all others. The UNHRC and WFP are struggling to give Syrian refugees the basics of food and medical care while the Palestinians who fall under UNRWA’s mandate receive much higher levels of aid per capita, including schooling and medicine. “Palestinian” refugees from Syria go to different camps in Jordan than the rest of the refugees because of Arab bigotry against Palestinians that gets swept under the rug.

The inefficiencies from having UNRWA doing the same work as other UN agencies, and the Arab nations insisting on discrimination against Palestinians, is wasting huge amounts of money. Hmmm.....Perhaps 'band aid' can make a Christmas song ...."Do they know it's HAMAS that counts?"

Mahmoud Abbas warned that if the United Nations fails to adopt a resolution that would recognize Palestinian statehood and make Israel cease building settlements on the Palestinian land, the Palestinian Authority will go ahead with seeking membership in the International Criminal Court (ICC), with the intention of prosecuting. Against whom Palestine will be seeking the criminal prosecution in the state of Israel?

Fayed Mustafa: I don't know if we have prepared the list of names but it would cover all the Israeli leaders participated in the criminal activity against Palestinian people or against our land: I mean the leaders who were giving orders to kill our people in Gaza and West Bank, the leaders who decided to steal our land and to build the settlements against the international law. These are the categories of people who we can be brought to the ICC attention.

What is your position regarding the bill? Is mutual recognition possible in the nearest future?

Fayed Mustafa: In 1993 we already exchanged with mutual letters of recognition between Palestine and Israel. That were a series of official letters of recognition between the Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and the Palestine Liberation Organization's Chairman Yasser Arafat dated September, 1993. Palestine has recognized the Israel within the Israel's Pre-1967 borders.

Why we have to recognize it twice? If they want to call themselves a Jewish state or any other name, it is up to them but we are not obligated to recognize their new definition. We already recognized the state of Israel in 1993 and it is useless to go back to his subject. Read the full story here.

Former U.S. National Security Advisor Asks Why British Royals Refuse to Visit Israel. (Algemeiner).

A senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), in an article published Thursday, asked why Britain’s Royal Family refuses to visit Israel when they make frequent stops throughout the Arab world.

“In just the month of November 2014 we found Prince Andrew and Prince Harry at what the Foreign Office must have considered a diplomatic necessity: the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix,” wrote Elliott Abrams, who worked in both the administrations of George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan.

“Prince Andrew also visited Saudi Arabia (at the request of the Foreign Office, it was announced). And Prince Harry also visited Oman.” 

Abrams then pointed out that the Queen has never set foot in Israel and Prince Charles visited the Jewish state only once: for Yitzhak Rabin’s funeral.

According to Abrams, there are only three “logical explanations” for the gross omission. One, he said, is that the Royal Family only likes to visit other royals and tries to stay away from republics. However, Abrams said Prince Charles visited Egypt more than once, “so there goes that theory.'

A second possible explanation is that the Royal Family fears a visit to Israel may harm the United Kingdom and its business with Arab dictators. But such reasoning is absurd, Abrams explained. “Given the current tacit alliance of Israel and the Gulf monarchies against Iran and ISIS, the likelihood that such visits would have harmed the UK is impossibly small.”

Abrams’ final suggestion is that the Royal Family won’t visit Israel because either they or the Foreign Office “harbor deep and undying enmity toward the Jewish state.”

Mahmoud Abbas' Advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash has been invited to speak tomorrow, Dec. 1, 2014, at Ben Gurion University on “Religious Aspects of the Israeli - Palestine conflict and the need for religious tolerance.” This is striking since for years, Al-Habbash has been promoting conflict and war with Israel in the name of Islam, as reported by Palestinian Media Watch.

Al-Habbash recently taught that Islam prohibits accepting Israel's existencebecause the “entire land of Palestine” is Islamic waqf. As such, he forbidsmaking peace with Israel because he believes Islamic law prohibits “facilitat[ing] the occupation of even a millimeter of it”, i.e., “the entire land of Palestine”:

“Al-Habbash emphasized that according to Islamic Shari'ah law, the entire land of Palestine is waqf (i.e., an inalienable religious endowment in Islamic law) and is blessed land, and that it is prohibited to sell, bestow ownership or facilitate the occupation of even a millimeter of it."

When Palestinians refer to “the entire land of Palestine,” they always includeall of Israel.

Al-Habbash has recently said that the Western Wall is also Islamic waqf and that “it is ours and will remain ours. The occupation [Israel] is the one that will leave":   

Al-Habbash has also expressed emphatic support for those involved in the recent murderous terror attacks in Jerusalem. He said:

“We are behind them. The leadership is with them. A few days ago, President [Mahmoud Abbas] greeted them, reinforced them and requested more Ribat from them... We are with them in every movement, in every action and every deed, and we welcome what they are doing at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

Al-Habbash expressed his support for “every action and every deed” after two Israelis had already been murdered in Jerusalem.

Al-Habbash has actively fueled religious hatred more than once by voicing the libel that Israel is planning to build the "alleged Third Temple" in place of the Al-Aqsa Mosque:

“In a statement to the press yesterday [April 14, 2014], Al-Habbash said... that the Israeli establishment is seeking to fulfill its dream, with the aim of building what it refers to as the alleged Third Temple in place of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and of completely altering the heritage and culture of the city and its Islamic light.”

“In addition, he warned again of the danger of the racist Israeli violations being planned against [the] Al-Aqsa [Mosque]... which confirm that Israel’s aim is to tighten its control over [the] Al-Aqsa, in preparation for destroying it and building their alleged Temple.”

Finally, last year, Al-Habbash said that the entire peace process with Israel is a deceptive process modeled after Muhammad's Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. Although the Muslim Prophet signed a 10-year peace treaty with the tribes of Mecca, “in less than two years, the Prophet returned and, based on this treaty, he conquered Mecca. This is the example, this is the model,” explained Al-Habbash in a sermon. [Official PA TV, July 19, 2013]

This statement by Al-Habbash explaining that the peace process is modeled after a treaty that led to the defeat of the co-signer was made just days after the last round of peace talks with Israel were announced in July 2013. If “this is the example, this is the model,” then the goal of the peace process is to eventually defeat Israel.

All of Al-Habbash’s statements paint a gloomy picture of the PA as a peace partner. Peace with Israel is prohibited, the murder of Israelis is endorsed, and the purpose of the peace process is to defeat Israel after an agreement is signed.
