Karşı reveals report on Syria-bound Turkish intel trucks....destination was ISIS. HT: TurkaFile.
Online opposition daily Karşı reports on new revelations on the ‘truck controversy’ from January of this year, in which trucks allegedly laden with weapons and belonging to the National Intelligence Agency (MİT) were stopped en route to Syria by gendarmerie officers.
According to news reports at the time, the gendarmerie were barred from searching the trucks on orders their contents were a "state secret".
Karşı reports that a video tape has been revealed regarding the MİT trucks which were stopped in Adana, and states that there is "striking information" in a report prepared by an inspector for the Supreme Board of Prosecutors and Judges (HSYK). According to the article, the HSYK inspector investigated both the case file for the gendarmerie personnel and another investigation conducted by state prosecutors into the same case.
According to Karşı, the inspector’s report notes that in a transcript of the video of the trucks being stopped "it was not understood" what the MİT officials said. However, reports Karşı, what the gendarmerie officers said was understood by those who transcribed the video.
According to the transcript of the footage, a gendarmerie lieutenant says they have information that the equipment in the trucks is being transported to ISIS, which is why they have stopped the truck, and that they have communicated with district chief.
Karşı continues that a civilian talking to the gendarmerie personnel says they were instructed that the equipment will not be taken to ISIS. The article also highlights that in the conversation, it is noticed that someone says, "Be careful, there is missile".
The daily also notes that there are details in the HSYK report of a related conversation between Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ and Adana Chief Prosecutor Süleyman Bağrıyanık, which also involves Justice Ministry Undersecretary Kenan İpek.
According to the article, Bağrıyanık states in his testimony for the investigation that Kenan İpek told him the trucks were under MİT control, and that they could not be searched without permission from the Prime Ministry. Bağrıyanık, the chief prosecutor for Adana, goes on to to say that İpek asked him to stop Prosecutor Özcan Şişman from searching the truck, otherwise everyone would "get upset".
Bağrıyanık also states in his testimony that in another conversation, İpek handed the phone to Bozdağ, upon which the justice minister told Bağrıyanık that the trucks belong to MİT. According to Karşı, Bozdağ also told Bağrıyanık that the trucks could not be searched by prosecutors, and that the minister instructed Bağrıyanık to "dismiss the prosecutor who wanted to carry out the search immediately".
Karşı also states that in another dialogue between MİT officials and local prosecutor Özcan Şişman, Şişman said there are claims that weapons are being dispatched in the trucks and that according to MİT law, the determination of evidence could not be blocked. According to the Karşı report, Şişman said:
We will carry out the search warrant. MİT officials cannot have a duty to carry weapons. Carrying weapons cannot be a state secret.
Karşı also points out that both Interior Minister Efkan Ala and President Erdoğan, who was prime minister at the time, said the trucks were carrying aid for Turkmens in Syria. Hmmm........[Erdoganistan] Prosecutors seek life in prison for 13 over search of MİT trucks
