France has deployed its special forces on the ground in northern Syria to advise rebels and help them fight Islamic State, a French Defense Ministry official has revealed to AFP.

"The offensive at Manbij is clearly being backed by a certain number of states including France. It's the usual support - it's advisory," the official told the agency.

Until now, France admitted the presence of some 150 special forces in the region, all of them in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Manbij is a key strategic town under Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) control in northern Syria. It’s a waypoint between the Turkish border and the IS-held Raqqa.

The latest comment isn’t the first hint at France’s presence in Syria: last Friday, Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told the Public Senat TV channel that Paris was “providing support through weapons supplies, air presence and advice."

France isn't the only Western country in Syria: about two weeks ago, footage emerged of US special forces fighting alongside Kurdish militia near the city of Raqqa, a month after Obama said some 250 troops would be deployed in the region.

Days after Turkish and American presidents, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Barack Obama respectively, held talks in Washington D.C. to discuss future phases of the joint fight against jihadists in Syria and Iraq, a delegation composed of United States’ soldiers and a diplomat has arrived in Ankara to find a formula over the role of the military wing of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in plans to re-take the Manjib region.

With concerns that the PYD would take advantage of its battles against ISIL in northern Syria to increase its territory for future goals of declaring an autonomous region, Turkey has urged the U.S. not to regard this organization as a reliable partner in this fight. Last week’s intensive talks in Washington D.C. between high level officials sought to find an efficient way to let the PYD fight against ISIL but to disallow the group from taking direct control of the area.

The talks in Ankara are believed to have produced a formula satisfying both sides’ concerns. Washington is unwilling to stop using the PYD as an efficient military force in the anti-ISIL fight, while Turkey demands the U.S. to acknowledge the group as an affiliate of the PKK and understand that any support given to this group increases the capacity of the terrorist organization.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan negotiated hard terms with U.S. President Barack Obama and U.S. Vice President Joe Biden last week in Washington where he was attending the Nuclear Security Summit, Turkish sources said.

According to his report, the U.S. has asked for Turkey’s support to take back Manbij, which lies at the southeastern end of the 98-kilometer border Turkey shares with Syria that is controlled by ISIL. Turkey in return put forth two demands.

Erdoğan first demanded that the Syrian Arab tribes to be included in the Manbij operation leave the Syrian Democratic Forces, which is under the control of the PYD, and undergo “background checks.”

Turkey also demanded the U.S. increase its support for the groups Turkey supports at Marea, which is located on the southwestern end of the 98-kilometer border, with airstrikes. Hmmmm.....As i already said on Friday , Two hands on one belly BFF.

During the much anticipated meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his U.S. counterpart, Barack Obama, the leaders’ main focus was on upgrading the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the aftermath of deadly attacks in Turkey and Belgium.

Obama reaffirmed U.S. commitment to Turkey’s security during the meeting.

Speaking after the meeting, Turkish presidential spokesperson İbrahim Kalın said that the U.S. had pledged to increase cooperation with Turkey in Ankara’s efforts to fight the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Biden, who expressed American support for Turkey’s effort in fighting the terrorist group, also said the U.S. would work to develop a plan that would focus on U.S. and Turkish goals and Ankara’s “sensitive” approach to the region - specifically operations conducted around the Manbij pocket in Syria, Kalın said.    

The Manbij pocket is a “red line” of demarcation for Turkey that has pledged to prevent a breach of the western front by the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its military wing the People’s Protection Unit (YPG). 

Turkey considers both of the groups as terrorist organizations as it regards them as the offshoots of the PKK.

But the U.S. only designates the PKK as a terrorist group, and marks the PYD and YPG as reliable partners in the fight against ISIL. Hmmm........Two MB hands on one belly.

The Kurdistan Freedom Hawks (TAK), a Kurdish militant group, has claimed responsibility for the Ankara bombing that killed 28 people this week, according to its website. It said the attack was in retaliation for Ankara’s military operation in Turkey's southeast.

The TAK, which is a splinter group of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), vowed to continue its attacks.

The militant group claimed in the statement published on Friday that the Ankara blast was carried out to avenge the “defenseless and wounded civilians brutally massacred in basements in Cizre.”
“Everyone should know that those who ordered the massacre of civilians were responsible for the Ankara incident.” 

It identified the perpetrator of the Ankara bombing as a 26-year-old Turkish national born in the eastern city of Van.

The militant group operates in Turkey and northern Iraq and is regarded as a terrorist organization by Ankara and the US. It has claimed responsibility for a number of attacks since 2004. The latest one was the December mortar attack at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen airport that killed one man and damaged five aircraft.

The TAK has said that it severed links with the PKK. The latter, in turn, has reportedly denied having any control over the TAK.

The group is seeking the creation of an independent Kurdish state that encompasses parts of southeast Turkey.

Kurdish forces belonging to the People's Protection Units (YPG) have setup training camps in three Assyrian villages on the Khabur river, in the Hasaka province in northeast Syria.

The largest camp is in the village of Tel Nasri, with more than 200 YPG fighters now living in the village. Two smaller camps have been setup in two other Assyrian villages.

The YPG fighters are being trained by Russian military personnel. The camps were setup beginning on January 26.

The YPG is the armed wing of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD).

Narsai Oshana, an Assyrian from Tel Nasri who now lives in Chicago, has spoken to Assyrians from Tel Nasri and Tel Tamar. Mr. Oshana says the YPG have stated they will only stay in the villages for the duration of the training, which is expected to last about two months. "I don't expect them to leave," said Mr. Oshana, "and neither do the Assyrians in Syria."

Mr. Oshana reports that on January 31 the Asayish, the intelligence arm of the YPG, opened an office in Tel Tamar.

Tel Nasri is about 900 meters from Tel Tamar and both are on the north bank of the river.

Before the Syrian civil war began Tel Nasri had 180 Assyrian households, with a population of 950. Today there are only 4 or 5 households in Tel Nasri, with about 25 Assyrians. About 60 households from Tel Nasri have fled to Beirut, 20 to Tel Tamar, and the rest to America, Australia, Canada and Europe.

el Nasri and Tel Tamar are two of 35 Assyrian villages on the Khabur river which were attacked by ISIS on February 23, 2015, causing nearly 3000 Assyrian to flee their homes. Most have not returned. ISIS captured 253 Assyrians in that initial attack and has been releasing them for ransom in batches; there are now 73 Assyrians from Khabur still being held by ISIS.

Turkey is training Islamic State terrorists in a camp disguised as a training ground for the Free Syrian Army, a 20-year-old jihadist captured by the Kurdish YPG told Sputnik. The prisoner said Ankara’s help to the “moderate” Syrian opposition is not as innocent as portrayed.

With special permission from the local Kurdish authorities, Russian journalists received first-hand testimony that Turkey is “a friend” of Islamic State.

“They only appear to be enemies, however, they are friends,” the 20-year-old Abdulhadi, whose brother, Til Berak, is still fighting for IS told Sputnik Turkey. While Turkish nationals constitute only about “10 percent” of jihadists he had come across, the prisoner said Turkey is actively training Islamic State fighters.

“In August 2014, I was training in the Turkish town of Adana with one of ISIL’s Emirs,” Abdulhadi said, adding his month-long training was completed with 60 other fighters in a camp “not far from the airport.”

The captured IS soldier said military training was conducted by two officers and one of them only “spoke Turkish, so another one had to translate for him.”

“Once a week we had shooting classes where we were taught to use Kalashnikovs, machine guns and other arms,” the 20 year-old said. “We were trained in Turkey because ISIL's command thought it was safer here than in Syria because of the bombardments there.”

While the camp was officially declared to be one of the training grounds for the Free Syrian Army, the YPG prisoner says, “all sixty of those who were there were ISIL members.”

“These were Syrian citizens, many of whom arrived in Turkey in search for a job initially, but later joined Daesh,” he explained.

After completing his training, Abdulhadi was tasked with escorting Syrians who wanted to join the jihadists. Hmmm........I've posted in the past three video's of captured ISIS Fighters telling the same kind of story.  Read the full story here.

Incidents like the Su-24 downing could bring the US into "direct conflict" with Russia, conservative political commentator Patrick J. Buchanan noted, calling what happened on Tuesday "a provocative and portentous act."

"Something US presidents conscientiously avoided through 45 years of Cold War – a military clash with Moscow – could become a real possibility. Does the White House see what is unfolding here?" he asked. "Was the US government aware Turkey might attack Russian planes? Did we give Erdogan a green light to shoot them down?"

Buchanan believes that the alleged airspace violation was used as a pretext. The real reason for downing the Russian warplane has more to do with geopolitics.

Erdogan was outraged "by Putin's success in securing the Syrian regime of Bashar Assad, whom Erdogan detests, and by relentless Russian air strikes on Turkmen rebels seeking to overthrow Assad," the analyst observed.

Incidentally, Syrian Turkmen militants were the ones who fired at the Su-24 pilots while they were descending to the ground. One of them was killed.

Turkey has overtly supported rebel groups, who are seeking to change the regime in Syria, to the point when it has become evident that Ankara, as Buchanan put it, "is on the rebel-jihadist side."

"As of today, Putin supports U.S.-French attacks on ISIS. But if we follow the Turks and begin aiding the rebels who are attacking the Syrian army, we could find ourselves eyeball to eyeball in a confrontation with Russia, where our NATO allies will be nowhere to be found. "The military intervention against the IS cannot be carried out without a UN mandate and thus also without Russia," Flahaut, former Minister of Defense, wrote in his official Twitter account.

On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow and Washington were interested in creating an international anti-terrorism coalition, but it was too early to discuss the question of Russia getting involved in direct military action against ISIL terrorists.

Extremists, including terrorists from the Islamic State (ISIL) jihadist group, are among the refugees arriving in droves to EU states from the war-torn countries of the Middle East, Greek Alternate Minister of Immigration Policy Yiannis Mouzalas said Monday.

"It would be foolish to say that there are no jihadists among them [refugees]. … The secret services of the European countries confirm that some of the militants managed to penetrate Europe," the minister said, as quoted by the local Proto Thema newspaper.

According to Mouzalas, some 60 percent of the refugees and migrants arriving in Europe are middle-class Syrians who fled the violence in the country. About 20 percent of those arriving are from Afghanistan. The remaining 15-20 percent have no documents whatsoever.

According to the EU external border protection agency, Frontex, the number of refugees detected at EU borders between January and July stands at 340,000, three times higher than during the same period in the previous year.

Five men posing as refugees trying to cross the border between Bulgaria and Macedonia were arrested. Their smartphones contained beheadings videos (which they may have particité), as well as propaganda material for the Islamic state.

The Bulgarian authorities have benefited of the stupidity of terrorists and integrity of customs.

According to the Bulgarian channel TV Nova cited by Breitbart, five men aged from 20 to 24 years, traveling aboard a car registered in Kosovo, came to the border post Gyueshevo.

They then tried to give a bribe to the border guard to avoid being searched and that he let them cross.

The border guard not only refused the money, but decided to search the five men. Border Police discovered the recruitment propaganda to the Islamic state, the texts of specific prayers for jihadists, beheadings and videos on their smartphones.

The European authorities have not responded. The jihadists have not waited ...

Last May, reports IB Times, Abdul Basit Haroun, an adviser to the Libyan government, told the BBC that the Islamic State fighters were "sent to Europe in boats of migrants".

Greece’s Coast Guard seized a cargo vessel loaded with weapons off the island of Crete in the east Mediterranean Sea.

According to local media, cargo vessel HADDAD 1 is carrying a Bolivian flag and was sailing from Turkey to Libya.

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, units of the Greek coast guard seized the vessel off the city of Ierapetra, after a tip off. The inspection revealed an illegal cargo, an unknown number of weapons hidden containers. Officially, the vessel was carrying plastic items.

After the inspection concluded, the Greek coast guard arrested the crew and forced the vessel to change route and sail to the port of Heraklion.

According to information leaked to local media, the vessel’s destination was a port in Libya and there is suspicion that the weapons were to be delivered to Islamic State units.

The crew reportedly consists of nationals from Syria, Egypt and India.

According to marinetraffic.com and the vessel’s official records, HADDAD 1 left the port of Iskenderun, Turkey, on August 29th, its destination was Misurata in Libya.

PS Misrata is not in the area controlled by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), but the mystery might be solved once the Greek authorities conclude the investigation.

HADDAD 1 is expected to dock at the port of Herakleion Tuesday afternoon or early Wednesday where customs authorities and inspectors will proceed with further investigation. Read the full story here.

Russian fighter pilots are expected to begin arriving in Syria in the coming days, and will fly their Russian air force fighter jets and attack helicopters against ISIS and rebel-aligned targets within the failing state.

According to Western diplomats, a Russian expeditionary force has already arrived in Syria and set up camp in an Assad-controlled airbase. The base is said to be in area surrounding Damascus, and will serve, for all intents and purposes, as a Russian forward operating base.

In the coming weeks thousands of Russian military personnel are set to touch down in Syria, including advisors, instructors, logistics personnel, technical personnel, members of the aerial protection division, and the pilots who will operate the aircraft.

Past reports have stated that the Russians were in talks to sell the Syrians a package of MiG-29 fighter jets, and Yak-130 trainer jets (which can also serve as attack aircraft.) The current makeup of the expeditionary force is still unknown, but there is no doubt that Russian pilots flying combat missions in Syrian skies will definitely change the existing dynamics in the Middle East.

The Russians do not harbor offensive intentions towards Israel or other sovereign states in the area, and their main stated goal is battling ISIS and preserving Assad's rule. However, their presence will represent a challenge to the Israeli Air Force's freedom of operation in the skies above the Middle East.

Western diplomatic sources have emphasized that the Obama administration is fully aware of the Russian intent to intervene directly in Syria, but has yet to issue any reaction. The absence of a vocal opposition from the Obama administration is compounded by its cessation of calls for the dissolution of Assad's murderous regime.

The Iranians and the Russians- with the US well aware- have begun the struggle to reequip the Syrian army, which has been left in tatters by the civil war. They intend not only to train Assad's army, but to also equip it. Read the full story here.

Security forces will take all necessary measures to ensure election safety on Nov. 1 in a bid to avoid the repetition of problems that allegedly occurred in the June 7 polls, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said.

“I believe our government, our Armed Forces and Interior Ministry will take all measures for election safety so that we’ll get through [the polls] with minor damage,” Erdoğan told reporters late Aug. 30 on the sidelines of a Victory Day reception. “I presume that what happened in the June 7 [elections] will not be repeated on Nov. 1 as part of election safety.”

Erdoğan has previously alleged that voters in southeastern and eastern Anatolian provinces were not free to cast votes due to threats and pressure imposed by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). There had been reports that the government would transport voters to certain polling stations in order to avoid alleged PKK pressure, but Erdoğan said Aug. 30 that a constitutional amendment was required to do so.

“People think it’s possible if the Supreme Election Board (YSK) decides on it. No, it’s not. That would require a constitutional amendment,” he said. The quantities being transported on a day to day basis are massive. Two trucks worth of fertilizer used in explosives, in addition to materials, such as electric cables and fuses, enough to fill a truck each, are passing through Turkey’s Akçakale border, heading for ISIL controlled parts of Syria on a day to day basis over two months. Women's group Congress of Free Women (KJA) to file charges for 'inhumane' treatment of Ekin Wan. (Jinha).

WAN - The women's group Congress of Free Women (KJA) is preparing to file charges related to the torture and exhibition of the naked body of woman guerrilla Ekin Wan.

On August 10, Kevser Eltürk (Ekin Wan) of the guerrilla group YJA STAR was killed in a clash in the Varto district of Northern Kurdistan (Turkey). After Ekin's death, police stripped her body and dragged it through the streets with a rope, then abandoned it in a village square. Police shared photographs of what they had done on social media.

Gülistan Eltürk, Ekin's sister, said that her sister was serving as a commander in Varto at the time. "She sacrificed herself so that the fighters she was responsible for would not die," said Gülistan.

Gülistan reported that when the family went to retrieve the body, it was given to them naked, with no belongings. She said that dozens of police and soldiers watched with "mocking" expressions as they identified the body. Gülistan, not wanting to expose her sister's naked body in front of the crowd, only looked at her sister's face and did not have a chance to see the wounds. Then, police followed the family as far as their house.

"For a lifeless body to be stripped naked like this and dragged on the ground is an inhumane practice. We will following up on this and holding responsible those behind this," said Gülistan. ""When the system strips my sister naked like this, they're trying to send the message: 'see the weakness of the person you see as sacred?' But they don't know a thing about the love inside us and the consciousness in our lives."

The Kurdistan-based women's group Congress of Free Women (KJA) has condemned the treatment of Ekin's body. They are preparing to file charges related to the incident.

ISIS Emir Yasin Ebdileziz Egumi was captured by YPG forces during the ISIS attack on Kobanê on June 25, and said that all critically injured gang members received treatment in Turkey, which gives logistic support to ISIS.

The Turkish state gives economic as well as military and political support to ISIS. ISIS gangs fighting against Kurds in Rojava (West Kurdistan) receive the biggest external support from Turkey, which continues to fail convincing the world that it is fighting against ISIS since its collaboration with the gangs became exposed. 

ISIS Emir Yasin Ebdileziz Egumi was captured by YPG forces during the ISIS attack on Kobanê on June 25, and confessed to Turkey’s military and logistic support to ISIS by saying that the group that carried out the June 25 massacre entered Kobanê from Turkey. Can you introduce yourself? What was your position within ISIS?

I am Yasin Ebdıleziz Egumi and I am Moroccan. Recently, I was the assistant of Ebu Bettar El Mısri; the ISIS Emir in Kobanê.

Where and how was your massacre in Kobanê planned out?

We were informed one night before the attack, we were summoned to Tabqa. We had been told that we were going to attack Hesekê, but Ebu Bettar El Mısri told us in Tabqa that we were actually attacking Kobanê. El Mısri used a projector to explain us the plan and tactics of the attack.

How was it planned and implemented?

We were 82 people in total, and we formed 6 groups of 12 people each. Ebu Bettar El Mısri was among the attackers, and the first group held the checkpoint to the south of Kobanê as we had planned. The second group, led by El Mısri, attacked Mürşitpınar Border Gate with an explosive vehicle, the goal here was to hold the gate after the explosion. The third group held the road to Tel Ebyad to the east, and the fourth group attacked Miştenur Hill in order to conquer it. The fifth and sixth groups entered the town and spread around to the locations we had identified earlier. Reinforcements came from Sirîn and Cerablus to help us, and a smaller group with ammunition entered Kaniya Kurda region from Turkey.

What was the goal of this plan?

Our goal was to conquer the city and block the roads in order to prevent civilians from escaping. The prevention of civilians’ escape would also prevent the planes from intervening, but our plans failed and we were confronted. At this point, we spread around across the town and killed everyone we saw without distinguishing civilians from soldiers.

What was the reason for your attack on civilians as opposed to military forces?

In the verses from our trainings, it said “behead infidels when you see them,” and the murder of civilians that support YPG is halal because they are infidels for us. We attacked civilians in order to take revenge from them for their collaboration with infidels in Kobanê.

Do you know which countries send aid to ISIS?

Aid usually came from Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Saudi Arabia sent materials such as clothes and blankets, all food and other livelihood needs were satisfied by Turkey.

To which countries does ISIS sell oil?

We sold oil to Turkey, I know this but I am not sure how exactly the oil was sold and transported to Turkey. I also know that Turkey sent logistic support in exchange for oil.

Where does ISIS treat injured people?

Those who are critically injured are taken to Turkey, some of my friends got treated in İstanbul. We were sending those who were lightly injured to Mosul for their treatment.

Kurdish Witness: Turkish Police put guerrilla clothes on executed Children after the murders. (Firat).

Fevzi Kahraman, a witness of the execution by police in Diyadin, told that special operations teams killed three civilians and put guerrilla clothes on them after the murders. Kahraman and three of his relatives have been detained.

Fevzi Kahraman stated that Orhan Aslan (16) and Emrah Aydemir (15) were killed in the bakery they worked at by special operations teams, who later put guerrilla clothes on the dead bodies and took photos of the crime scene.

Fevzi Kahraman objected to the murder of two children at the bakery they worked at, and the use of guerrilla clothing to manipulate the incident. Police then detained Fevzi Kahraman as well as Aytekin, Mehmet and Harun Kahraman who were trying to prevent their relative Kahraman’s detention. Lawyers have released a preliminary assessment of the events of Wednesday night in the town of Diyadin, located in the largely Kurdish Ağrı province. The Ağrı Bar Association reported that one HPG guerrilla was killed in a clash that broke out in the evening.

However, lawyers reported that there was a significant difference between the site of this clash and the place where two children were killed. Therefore, they said, the deaths of the boys could not be explained by saying they were "caught in the clashes."

The two teenage boys, Muhammet Aydemir (15) and Orhan Aslan (16), were working at a bakery at the time of the killing. Lawyers noted that based on Muhammet's father's testimony to the state prosecutor, it was clear that the boy had no interest in politics. He had no relationship with the popular Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), let alone with any guerrilla organization. (In contrast, the provincial governor has claimed that the boys were members of the guerrilla.)

The two boys' bodies were found in the wood yard of the bakery where they worked. Lawyers reported that there were no signs of a clash in the wood yard. The door had not been forced and there were no bullet holes at the scene. Muhammet Aydemir's father reported that he had called his son when clashes began, telling him not to go outside.

"When we consider this, along with the fact that the boy was a high school student and still going to school, it is indisputable that these two individuals were there as part of their shift at work, and that they were somehow killed," said the Bar Association. "As a result, we request that the investigation not be shut down and the deaths of both children not be covered up by connecting them to a so-called 'organization.'"
