Sometimes NATO 'Ally' Turkey says agrees deal with U.S. on air support for 'Syrian rebels'.

Sometimes NATO 'Ally' Turkey says agrees deal with U.S. on air support for Syrian rebels. (AA).

The United States and Turkey have agreed "in principle" to give air support to some forces from Syria's mainstream opposition, Turkey's foreign minister said, in what if confirmed could mark an expansion of U.S. involvement in the conflict.

There was no immediate comment from U.S. officials on the assertion -- though Washington has so far refrained from committing to enforcing a "safe zone" for Syrian rebels, as it could be seen as a declaration of war on the Syrian state.

The air support would protect Syrian rebel forces who have been trained by a U.S.-led programme on Turkish territory, said minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. The long-delayed scheme is meant to send 15,000 troops back to Syria to fight Islamic State militants.

Cavusoglu did not go into details on what "in principle" meant or what kind of air power would be provided or by whom.

"They have to be supported via air. If you do not protect them or provide air support, what is the point?," Cavusoglu told the pro-government Daily Sabah newspaper during a visit to Seoul.

"There is a principle agreement on providing air support. How it is going to be provided is in the responsibility of the army."

The U.S-led training programme has been mired in delays amid media speculation of disagreements between the two NATO allies.

Turkey has said that any support programme must be part of a comprehensive strategy which includes battling forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Washington has maintained its opposition to Assad but said that the goal of training is only to defeat Islamic State militants.

Cavusoglu reiterated that while fighting Islamic State is prioritised, the "regime must also be stopped".

The minister also dismissed media speculation that Turkey and Saudi Arabia had agreed on a joint operation in Syria. Hmmm.........Supporting Al-Nusra , Al-qaeda against ISIS.....great plan.

Syrian military source alleges 'Islamist' Turkish role in Idlib offensive.

Syrian military source alleges 'Islamist' Turkish role in Idlib offensive. (Yahoo).

A Syrian military source accused Turkey on Monday of helping Islamist rebels to stage an assault on Idlib, a provincial capital which fighters seized at the weekend.

The source declined to comment on the situation in Idlib, citing security considerations, but a monitoring group has confirmed the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front and allies now control Idlib and said the Syrian air force bombed the city on Monday.

The fall of Idlib, 30 km (20 miles) from the Turkish border, marks only the second time in the Syrian civil war that Damascus has lost control of a provincial capital. The first was Raqqa, which the ultra-radical Islamic State group has turned into the de facto capital of its self-declared caliphate.

Echoing more general comments by President Bashar al-Assad, the military source accused both Turkey and Jordan of supporting the insurgents in their Idlib offensive, saying they were "leading operations and planning them". The insurgents were using advanced communication apparatus that had been supplied to them via Turkey, the source added.

The Turkish foreign ministry declined to comment.

Turkey is one of the regional states most hostile to Assad, along with Saudi Arabia and Qatar. In an interview with the U.S. network CBS, Assad described Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan as a "Muslim Brotherhood fanatic" who was directly supporting insurgents "logistically and militarily" daily.

Syria's government has not commented on the fall of Idlib, though the pro-government Watan newspaper published in Damascus reported on Monday that the Nusra Front and its allies had raised the al Qaeda flag over government buildings in the city.

Nusra Front was joined by groups including the hardline Ahrar al-Sham in seizing Idlib on Saturday, a reminder of the pressures facing Damascus after more than four years of crisis.

The Islamist alliance rejected a call by the Turkish-based mainstream political opposition to let an interim government set up its headquarters in Idlib, saying it would ruled by those "in the trenches and not in hotels".

The Nusra Front's influence in northwestern Syria has been expanding at the expense of mainstream rebel groups, some of which received U.S. military support. It is a rival of Islamic State, an al Qaeda offshoot that has seized territory in both Syria and Iraq.

Ahrar al-Sham issued a statement urging the people of Idlib to help fighters run the city and saying they were not seeking to set up an Islamic emirate. Hmmmmm........I can not more agree with the tweet below. Read the full story here.

Turkish officials have expressed their satisfaction at the seizure of the northern Syrian city of Idlib by opposition forces, stressing that the Ankara-supported Free Syrian Army (FSA) was part of the winning side.

The coalition that seized Idlib city on March 28 was composed of the al-Nusra Front, the official Syrian affiliate of al-Qaeda, as well as several Islamist factions.

The al-Nusra Front and its allies have captured all of Idlib,” the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, according to AFP. “There is still a group of soldiers fighting in the security quarter of the city, but they will not be able to reverse the situation,” Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman added.

Turkey is content that the opposition has captured Idlib. Our support for the FSA will continue,” a Turkish official told daily Hürriyet on condition of anonymity. The official also stressed it is wrong to credit only al-Nusra for the success, which “boosted” the FSA’s morale.

The 'jihadist' group al-Nusra also announced the capture of the northwestern city on its official Twitter account. Hmmmm......Flashback: Turkey removes Al Nusra from Al-Qaeda terrorist list. I guess that was the first step to 'white wash' their terrorist buddies. :) Now called 'Jihadis' !

Russia to Send Humanitarian Aid to Syrian Armenians Abused by Militants in Kessab.

Russia to Send Humanitarian Aid to Syrian Armenians Abused by Militants in Kessab. (RN).

Russia will send humanitarian aid to Syrian Armenians who suffered abuse from local militants in Kessab within several days, Sergei Stepashin, Chairman of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society (IOPS ), told RIA Novosti Wednesday.

"At a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad we were informed that humanitarian aid collected by IOPS will be sent to Syrian Armenians who became victims of violent attack on their village [Kessab]," Stepashin said.

IOPS delegation headed by Stepashin held a meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad, Prime Minister Wael al-Khalq, and members of the Syrian Cabinet on Tuesday."We have already sent $2.5 million in aid," Stepashin asserted.

He also added that all the funds were collected by Russian citizens.

Home to over 2,000 ethnic Armenians the town of Kessab is located in Syria's Latakia province. The town fell into rebels' hands on March 21 when al-Qaeda backed militants crossed into Syria from Turkey and seized the village after a brutal battle with Syrian troops.

The Armenian government later called on the UN to protect Kessab.

Russian Foreign Ministry also expressed concern over militants' attack on Kessab.
"The seizure by extremists of the town of Kessab elicited a broad response in Armenian communities throughout the world," Russian Foreign Ministry said in its March statement.

Moscow has previously directed humanitarian aid to crisis-hit Syria, accusing the US of encouraging extremists who are financing terrorism and supplying terrorist groups with weapons.

Spending on foreign aid by Russia reached $458 million in 2012, while the world's major aid donors spent $125.6 billion, according to the country's finance ministry

Claim - Armenians in Kessab under attack by Turkish supported Al-qaeda.

Claim - Armenians in Kessab under attack by Turkish supported Al-qaeda.(BlognewsAM).

"Today, on Mother's Day, March 21, 2014, our beautiful city was brutally attacked by" Al-Qaeda "and an extremist group" Frente al-Nusra "who receive full military and logistical support from the Government of Turkey.

We woke up before dawn to the sound of terror missiles that fell on the city. Thousand extremists have crossed the border of the city. The Turkish side has taken a policy of destruction beautiful Kesap precisely on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.

Kesap Heroes began to defend their city, hunting rifles before had been reinforced by the Syrian government. If Kesap residents would not be notified of these heroes that have to leave their homes, the world has become the world witnessed another genocide and mass media spread disinformation to another.

For many centuries Kesap always been the home of thousands of Armenians.

First time Kesap was in agony in 1909, during the tragic events, when the Turks attacked the city, causing Kesap was looted, homes were burned and 161 Armenians were massacred.

In 1915, when he was done the Armenian Genocide, the Turkish troops entered the Kesap and began to deport Armenians killed more than 5,000 kesabskih Armenians. Armenian genocide carried out by Turkey, claimed the lives of 1.5 million Armenians. But this number can increase several times, if the international community fails to take appropriate steps to protect the Armenians in Syria.

Arabs in Syria sheltering us, they helped us to get up and continue to exist, overcoming the terrible memories of death and destruction, we should be eternally grateful them.

Since that time, we lived in peace and harmony with other faiths, as a huge Armenian family as a single house called Syria. Today we also need the help, because the Turkish government, unfortunately, has dared to carry out an attack on the Armenians, ignoring Hay Dat.

Thus, Turkey has again refused to recognize the Armenian Genocide and is doing everything possible to today killed more Armenians. We have nothing against the Turkish people. We lived next to them as neighbors and do not want any changes. The Turkish government, supporting the killing of civilians Kesap supports terrorists against whom our appeal. We just want to get back to our city, or what's left of it, many videos on YouTube show how extremists destroyed and burned our beautiful city.

Syria knows that where there are no these extremists and nothing remains alive. We picked our own home, our heritage for centuries ruthlessly destroyed. This appeal is directed to all Armenians. This appeal is directed to all mankind. The world must hear the truth. Erdogan and his government - war criminals.
We need your help. We need you to take appropriate steps. Our life depends on you, on your decisions. We have nothing left except the clothes we wear now.
If we were to pack the essentials, then we have not had to have survived. Many of us do not have time to bring your passport and other documents.

We ask you to contact the governments of your countries and in the United Nations or any other structure to intervene in the case. All what we want - to live. If you ignore this request, we will be brutally murdered by extremists, just as it was in Aleppo, Yacoubiyeh, Ghenemiyeh and throughout Syria.

Those whom you call rebels are actually radicals in the composition of such groups include representatives of many nations - Afghans, Chechens, came from Saudi Arabia and others. Residents Kesap and all Syria has witnessed how they attacked civilians and killed them.

The media can not hide the truth forever. You can not always govern human lives. The so-called rebels are targeting and attacking civilians. We ask you to wake up.

Do not you think that shed innocent blood is enough? Do not you think that enough has already carried out the attacks and destruction? Just three years we all lived peacefully and happily. This is not a revolution, it is a war. A Syrian army is now fighting in Kesap to ensure the safe return of Armenians in their homes. PS This letter Kesap residents who have found refuge in the Armenian Church of Latakia. "

HDP: Armenians Deported To Syria Again Under Threat of deportation with the support of the AKP government.

HDP: Armenians Deported To Syria Again Under Threat of deportation with the support of the AKP government. (Firat).
“how sad it is that Armenians deported from Turkey in 1915 are today once again being subjected to deportation with the support of the AKP government. Not only Keseb, but the Armenian neighborhoods in Aleppo are also under attack.”

HDP Co Vice-President Saruhan Oluç has released a statement in which he draws attention to the recent attacks against the Armenian village of Keseb in Syria, reading “how sad it is that Armenians deported from Turkey in 1915 are today once again being subjected to deportation with the support of the AKP government. Not only Keseb, but the Armenian neighborhoods in Aleppo are also under attack.”

Oluç’s statement was released in response to a number of recent incidents on the Turkish-Syrian border. In particular it drew attention to the increasing attacks on Keseb and the central role that al-Nusra Front and the Brigade of Islam were playing in the attacks.

Oluç accused Kuwait and Gulf States of supporting the attacks, writing “the jihadi assailants consider the costal region to have been occupied by Alawites, Christians and Jews and they are attacking to put an end to this situation. A significant part of these organizations are attacking the battle from Turkey. In the same way as in Rojava Kurdistan they are entering from Turkey in order to attack the people.

The Kurds of Rojava have defended themselves and repelled these attacks. In and round Keseb the danger of a massacre against Armenians and Alawites is growing every day. Armenians, Melkites, Greek Orthodox, Alevis and Syriacs are living in Keseb. This town is one of the examples of co-existence in Syria.”They fear for their lives and are leaving the area to take refuge in nearby villages.

How sad it is that Armenians deported from Turkey in 1915 are today once again being subjected to deportation with the support of the AKP government. Not only Keseb, but the Armenian neighborhoods in Aleppo are also under attack. Neighborhoods such as Aziziye, Telefon Havi, Süleymani, Nor Küğ and Tilel with large Armenian populations are facing rocket attacks and shelling.”

Oruş emphasised that the situation in Syria requires a political solution and the construction of a new and democratic Syria, writing “In Rojava Kurdistan where Kurds, Arabs, and Syriacs live together they have formed autonomous canton governments in which the people are represented on a foundation of equality. The extension of the push for democracy which began in Rojava to the entirety of Syria would create the conditions for the end to the civil war.

As long as the AKP government continues its policy of being one of parties to the developments in Syria and the civil war, it will be a partner in the Keseb and similar attacks. The AKP must take its hands off Keseb and cease from providing the jihadist gangs with logistical and material support.

Turkish Veteran intelligence expert : "Iran-backed Tawhid-Salam most dangerous terror group, has access to top officials in Turkey."

'Two peas in A pod'

Turkish Veteran intelligence expert : "Iran-backed Tawhid-Salam most dangerous terror group, has access to top officials in Turkey." HT: TodaysZaman.

Former İstanbul Police Department intelligence bureau chief Ali Fuat Yılmazer has said Iran-linked notorious terrorist organization Tawhid-Salam is “the stealthiest and the most dangerous terrorist organization of recent times” Turkey has ever faced.

He lamented that a painstakingly difficult three-year-long investigation into Iran-backed terrorist organization Tawhid-Salam has been foiled and ridiculed by some government officials, leading most suspects to flee the country.

Yılmazer, who has specialized in fundamentalist and extremist religious terror groups, said it was very difficult to expose this clandestine terror network that has access to top officials in Turkey, yet the police have done a solid and careful investigation to expose the wider network of Iranian agents that has been set up in Turkey and discovered connections to senior government officials.

“The Salam terror investigation included very important details,” Yılmazer said in a live TV interview on Tuesday night. The veteran intelligence expert underlined that Tawhid-Salam is a very important terrorist organization that is backed by Iran.

He also lashed out at Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ, who ridiculed the investigation, saying: “A group of people say hello with ‘Salam alaikum' [Peace be upon you] and others reciprocate with ‘Alaikum salam' [Also upon you]. On some people's say-so, a terrorist organization was supposedly founded, which is called Tawhid Salam. It is ridiculous.”

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also adopted a cynical stance about the existence of the terrorist group, raising questions of a cover-up in the government just as Erdoğan tried to do for the corruption scandal that was exposed on Dec. 17.

Former intelligence chief said this is a terrorist organization that was responsible for the assassination of several journalists and academics in the 1990s, including Uğur Mumcu, Bahriye Üçok, Ahmet Taner Kışlalı and several other intellectuals.

The organization is also noted for killing US, Saudi Arabian and Israeli diplomats, as well as Iranian dissidents who took refuge in Turkey.

He said the organization stayed dormant for a while until it was reactivated several years ago and started committing bombing attacks and surveillance activities on sensitive targets in İstanbul. Yılmazer said the investigation cannot be hushed up despite government efforts to keep the investigation from going to court.

According to video footage posted on YouTube, Kamile Yazıcıoğlu, a 49-year-old woman who had fled from her abusive husband, Hüseyin Avni Yazıcıoğlu, reported anti-terror units to the Bursa police, saying that her husband had been working for Iranian intelligence and provided documents as evidence to back up her claims.

She later repeated her testimony to İstanbul anti-terror units in depositions given in March and April 2011. The allegations triggered a secret three-year investigation into Yazıcıoğlu and his accomplices and contacts, both among Turkish officials and Iranian intelligence agents.

One document obtained by the police contains notes Yazıcıoğlu took on a conversation he had with two ruling party deputies, S.K. and H.Ç., in October, 2010 in İstanbul.

These two deputies, from the provinces of Bursa and Muş, told the the Iranian informant the Turkish prime minister's thoughts on the NATO early warning radar system to be deployed in Malatya's Kürecik district as part of NATO's missile defense system.

S.K. says Erdoğan was no longer allowing the Iranian border to be used as a garrison for the US, Israel and Europe and was resisting efforts to that end by Turkey's allies. He said Erdoğan was really strengthening political, economic and military ties with Iran and that he was the radar system as a NATO trap to derail Turkey's ties with Iran.Read the full story here.

Turkish military Allegedly in Support of Al-Qaeda and Al-Nusra pounds Syrian army bases near border.

Turkish military Allegedly pounds Syrian army bases near border.(Alalam).
Turkish military tanks have targeted Syrian army bases in the Kasab border town, where the Syrian army has been battling numerous militant groups to secure the border.
According to Al-Alam reporter in Syria’s Latakia, a huge explosion was heard at a Syrian army base near Kasab after Turkish military targeted the area.

The explosion has been followed with Turkish military firing several other rockets at Syrian army bases, the reporter said citing military sources.

The report said, Al-Qaeda’s al-Nusra front have raised their flags over several Turkish military tanks near Kasab, as a sign of having the area under their control.

Syria has been criticizing Turkey for ‘covering for’ militant groups and helping them occupy the Syrian border.

On Sunday, Turkish military shot down a Syrian fighter jet at the Syrian side of the common borders with Turkey, as it was engaged in fighting with extremist foreign-backed militants.
Kasab and its surrounding villages are Armenian Christian-dominated areas, and their value is primarily because of their location near the Turkish border.
Having the town in their control, militant factions not only are able to smuggle in arms for themselves, but are able to demand a cut when other factions use those crossings.
