Raqqa insiders seem to confirm killing of Jihadi John. (Reuters).

The United States targeted British Islamic State leader "Jihadi John" in an air strike in northern Syria and evidence was growing on Friday that he was killed.

A U.S. official said Thursday's attack in the town of Raqqa probably killed Mohammed Emwazi, a British citizen who was nicknamed "Jihadi John" after appearing in videos showing the killings of American and British hostages.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring group, said four foreign militants had been killed in U.S. air strikes.

"A car carrying four foreign Islamic State leaders, including one British Jihadi was hit by U.S. air strikes right after the governorate building in Raqqa city," Rami Abdulrahman, Director of the UK-based Observatory told Reuters.

"All the sources there are saying that the body of an important British Jihadi is lying in the hospital of Raqqa. All the sources are saying it is of Jihadi John but I cannot confirm it personally."Read the full story here.

The masked executioner lost his “bogey man” persona the moment he was identified as 26-year-old Londoner Mohammed Emwazi, U.S spies say.

The “fear factor” vanished when the world realised that rather than a Carlos the Jackal he was “a baseball hat-wearing West London street gang member”.

He has not appeared in an IS film since January following the beheading of Japanese hostage Kenji Goto.

Many thought he had been killed or severely wounded in an airstrike.

However a source with America’s Joint Terrorism Taskforce, which along with the CIA and U.S special forces DEVGRU is hunting Emwazi, believes he has slipped over the border.

Speaking on condition of anonymity the insider, who recently spent time in the UK working alongside MI5 and Special Branch, said: “We think it is a tactical move by ISIS to keep Emwazi out of the limelight.

“His unmasking by the Press took away the mystery surrounding his ‘bogey man’ persona and though we have targeted him with conventional missiles we have had no confirmation of a successful strike.

“We have picked up communication intercepts to suggest Emwazi has been in Libya and remained there over a number of days.”

The revelation was picked up by intelligence officers monitoring so called “electronic terrorist chatter” among jihadis in the UK.

Flick through the group’s new online “travel guidebook” and her contact details are listed, alongside 17 other agents and middlemen. Recruits are told to get in touch with these people when they make it to Turkey and want a contact in ISIS to help them cross the border.

This is the mysterious but influential woman until now known only as @_UmmWaqqas. Her real life is seemingly obscured from view, with her face completely covered in pictures posted online. As one of the most influential ISIS-linked women online, she describes to her 8,000 followers the religious duty for Muslims to join the Caliphate. She has been in personal contact with Brits and Americans on the eve of their departures, and she is close to fighters and jihadi brides in Syria.

@_UmmWaqqas is today revealed by Channel 4 News to have been set up and operated by Rawdah Abdisalaam, a twenty-something female believed to be from Seattle.

She advocates mass emigration to Islamic State while seemingly enjoying the creature comforts of the American lifestyle, watching the Denver Broncos on a super-widescreen HDTV and tweeting pictures of double cheeseburgers.

Her Twitter account was recently accessed from Seattle, though friends say she has moved away, and her exact location remains unclear.

“I'm actually lost for words”, one school friend who wished to stay anonymous told Channel 4 News. “The Rawdah you are referring to is a childhood friend.” She said that the @_UmmWaqqas tweets, “sound a little to extreme to be honest … this is so weird.” Friends confirmed it is her account. 'Jihadi John's' Mom knew all along it was her son Mohammed Emwazi. (Yahoo).

The mother of the man identified as "Jihadi John" recognized immediately from his voice that her son was the alleged killer when he appeared in his first beheading video in August, Kuwaiti government officials told ABC News.

The parents of Mohammed Emwazi, who were questioned recently in Kuwait, told authorities they last heard from their son in mid-2013 when he called them from Turkey. Emwazi said he was going to do humanitarian work in Syria, the parents said, according to the officials. Emwazi's father, a former policeman, said he's been waiting for news of his son's death ever since.

Instead of doing humanitarian work, Emwazi allegedly linked up with ISIS and has appeared in videos online apparently beheading Westerners, including several who were actual humanitarians.

The world knows him as “Jihadi John,” the masked man with a British accent who has beheaded several hostages held by the Islamic State and who taunts audiences in videos circulated widely online.

But his real name, according to friends and others familiar with his case, is Mohammed Emwazi, a Briton from a well-to-do family who grew up in West London and graduated from college with a degree in computer programming.

He is believed to have traveled to Syria around 2012 and to have later joined the Islamic State, the group whose barbarity he has come to symbolize.

Video - Video Surfaces Showing Man Thought To Be Heartless ISIS Executioner ‘Jihadi John.

Now, in a newly surfaced video, a man believed to be “Jihadi John” was filmed by an Australian news channel condemning British police during the 2011 riots in London.

The footage, from Australia’s Channel Nine, shows Abdel Majed Abdel Bary in Tottenham on the first night of the riots, becoming increasingly irate about the behavior of the Metropolitan Police.

The 23-year-old rapper can be seen interrupting live interviews with other bystanders.

“The police are protecting the police. They are not protecting the people. They are protecting the police,” he tells reporter Peter Stefanovic.
