Just days before the June 7 elections, the Turkish president has promised further support for Turkish students and teachers across the country Anadolu Agency reported

Addressing a ceremony at the Ankara chamber of commerce ATO Friday, where around 3,000 students and teachers had gathered, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced: "We are now giving out 700,000 tablets in 81 provinces to the students and giving them [as part of the government’s support] for the education system."

The distribution of the tablets began across Turkey after the announcement.

Earlier, the government had handed over 737,800 tablets to teachers and students across the country. The current round of distribution will be for mostly class ninth schoolchildren, the Turkish Education Ministry said on its website.

The president highlighted that the tablets, which would be used as educational tools in the classrooms, had been produced locally and had superior qualities than most other brands in the market.

He added that there would be more such distribution of tablets in the near future.

"We will deliver 10.6 million more tablets after 2016 within four years," Erdogan said. He added that the tenders for the project had already been made.

He also said that the local tablet production would support the domestic information technology sector.

The locally-produced tablets have a multi-core processor with 2 gigabytes of RAM, 32 gigabytes of internal memory, a high resolution 10.1 inch screen, WIFI capability, and front and rear cameras, the ministry website said.
Also, a two year warranty will be provided for the tablets, while the battery life would have a four-year warranty.

The tablet PCs will be loaded with pre-installed educational applications. Teachers will be able to interact with students and design new course works using the tablets, while students will be able to take notes directly on their tablets, the website added. Turkey’s Education Ministry has issued the outline of a new moral education program to be given to public schools, encouraging students to take a more religious perspective and way of life.

The program includes advice such as “patience protects moral chastity” and “death is a blessing according to our faith,” daily Milliyet reported on Jan. 2, adding that the 39-page fascicles have been sent to the Governors’ Offices in all 81 provinces across the country.

The seminars are the fruit of an initiative included in a circular issued in 2010 recommending the “education of values” to teach students “how to be a role model,” “the principles of mutual trust, tolerance and honesty” and “the behavior expected in classes.” The program was later developed by commissions formed in each province, and as a result each province featured different content.

Last June, the Education Ministry sought to standardize the seminars by signing a protocol with the Service Foundation (Hizmet Vakfı), an Islamic association not to be confused with the “Hizmet” movement of the U.S.-based scholar Fethullah Gülen.

The head of Turkey’s top religious body has announced plans to open an Islamic university in Istanbul, as an alternative to other renowned Islamic universities across the world such as Egypt’s Al-Azhar University.

Professor Dr. Mehmet Görmez, the head of the Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), told a group of journalists in Mecca on Sept. 30 that they had applied to Turkey’s Higher Education Board (YÖK) to open an Islamic university.

Görmez said the current plan was to transform the 29 Mayıs University on Istanbul’s Anatolian side into the International Islamic University, claiming that Islamic universities in Egypt, Pakistan, Iran and Malaysia were “unable to find solutions to problems in the world.”
“The main problem today is that Muslims bring suffering, violence and sorrow to each other ... We have applied to YÖK for the transformation of 29 Mayıs University in Istanbul into the ‘International Islamic University’ in order to find peaceful solutions to these problems,” he said.

“I have been working on the issue for the three years and see that the curriculum of these universities does not help in providing solutions to the problems of Muslims. The scholars who graduate from these universities are becoming the problem themselves, rather than solving the problems. The International Islamic University in Istanbul aims to provide education in English, Arabic, Turkish and Farsi, and will have a mission of supporting these universities rather than becoming an alternative to them,” he added

 Hmmm.....Okay the rest of the World is incompetent, only 'neo Ottoman' university will save the World....another example of their 'Herren volk' attitude.

Two non-Muslim students have been automatically enrolled in imam-hatip high schools -- which provide Islamic religious education -- after they received low marks on the Transition from Primary to Secondary Education (TEOG) exam held in June, a media report has revealed.

According to a report by the Hürriyet daily, one of the students, Arda Christof A., an ethnic Armenian, received a score of 257.3422 on the exam -- too low to enter schools other than imam-hatip high schools -- and was automatically enrolled in the school, prompting a negative reaction by the student and his family.

All eighth grade students who will enroll in high schools in Turkey must take the TEOG exam, forcing them to make a choice between two options if they fail to get high enough scores on the exam: vocational schools or imam-hatip schools. And if they fail to choose one, most are automatically enrolled in imam-hatip high schools.
