UN REPORT DETAILS MASSIVE DESTRUCTION AND SERIOUS HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS SINCE JULY 2015 IN SOUTHEAST TURKEY.

UN REPORT DETAILS MASSIVE DESTRUCTION AND SERIOUS HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS SINCE JULY 2015 IN SOUTHEAST TURKEY. (UNog).

GENEVA (Issued as received) – The UN Human Rights Office on Friday published a report detailing allegations of massive destruction, killings and numerous other serious human rights violations committed between July 2015 and December 2016 in southeast Turkey, during Government security operations that have affected more than 30 towns and neighbourhoods and displaced between 335,000 and half a million people, mostly of Kurdish origin.

The report describes the extent of the destruction in the town of Nusaybin, in Mardin Province, where 1,786 buildings appear to have been destroyed or damaged, and the Sur district of Diyarbakir, where the local government estimates that 70 percent of the buildings in the eastern part of the district were systematically destroyed by shelling. The destruction apparently continued even after the security operations ended, reaching a peak during the month of August 2016. Before-and-after satellite images from Nusaybin and Sur show entire neighbourhoods razed to the ground.

The UN Human Rights Office is “particularly alarmed about the results of satellite imagery analysis, which indicate an enormous scale of destruction of the housing stock by heavy weaponry,” the report states.

Heavy damage is also reported from a number of other towns, including Cizre, in Şirnak Province, where witnesses and family members of victims “painted an apocalyptic picture of the wholesale destruction of neighbourhoods” where, in early 2016, up to 189 men, women and children were trapped for weeks in basements without water, food, medical attention and power before being killed by fire, induced by shelling.

“The subsequent demolition of the buildings destroyed evidence and has therefore largely prevented the basic identification and tracing of mortal remains,” the report continues. “Moreover, instead of opening an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the reported excessive use of force, recourse to heavy weapons and the resulting deaths, the local authorities accused the people killed of participating in terrorist organizations and took repressive measures affecting members of their families.”

The report describes how one woman’s family “was invited by the public prosecutor to collect her remains, which consisted of three small pieces of charred flesh, identified by means of a DNA match. The family did not receive an explanation as to how she was killed nor a forensic report. The victim’s sister, who called for accountability of those responsible for her death and attempted to pursue a legal process, was charged with terrorist offences.”

The report also cited information received from the Government of Turkey indicating that the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which the Government considers a terrorist organization, “had conducted a number of violent attacks that caused deaths and injuries among Turkish security forces and other individuals. The PKK has also been involved, according to the Government, in kidnappings, including of children; digging trenches and placing roadblocks in cities and towns; and preventing medical services from delivering emergency health services.”

The UN Human Rights Office says it has been seeking access to the affected parts of southeast Turkey for almost a year, to independently investigate allegations of serious human rights violations. In the absence of meaningful access, the report – the first in a series – was produced through remote monitoring, using both public and confidential sources, satellite imagery and interviews to gather information about the conduct and impact of the security operations in the southeast of the country.

The report also documents accounts of torture, enforced disappearances, incitement to hatred, prevention of access to emergency medical care, food, water and livelihoods, and violence against women, as well as expressing concern “about the post-security operation policies of expropriation,” citing a number of examples including the Council of Ministers’ March 2016 decision, which reportedly resulted in the expropriation of up to 100 per cent of all land plots in Sur.

Measures taken under the state of emergency following the attempted coup of July 2016, including the dismissal of more than 100,000 people from public or private sector jobs during the reporting period, have also deeply affected the human rights situation in the southeast. Some 10,000 teachers were reportedly dismissed on suspicion of having links with the PKK, without due process. The use of counter-terrorism legislation to remove democratically elected officials of Kurdish origin, the severe harassment of independent journalists, the closure of independent and Kurdish language media and citizen’s associations and the mass suspension of judges and prosecutors have also severely weakened checks and balances and human rights protections.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein acknowledged the complex challenges Turkey has faced in addressing the attempted coup of July 2016 and in responding to a series of terror attacks. However, he said the apparent significant deterioration of the human rights situation in the country is cause for alarm and would only serve to deepen tensions and foster instability.

“I am particularly concerned by reports that no credible investigation has been conducted into hundreds of alleged unlawful killings, including women and children over a period of 13 months between late July 2015 and the end of August of 2016. It appears that not a single suspect was apprehended and not a single individual was prosecuted,” High Commissioner Zeid said.

“The Government of Turkey has failed to grant us access, but has contested the veracity of the very serious allegations made in this report. But the gravity of the allegations, the scale of the destruction and the displacement of more than 355,000 people mean that an independent investigation is both urgent and essential.”

'Islamist Dictatorship' Turkey issues Arrest Warrants for 15 HDP MPs.

'Islamist Dictatorship' Turkey issues Arrest Warrants for Arrest of 15 HDP MPs. (Kurdish Question).

Turkey's Interior Ministry has confirmed that 11 Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) lawmakers have been detained by police in operations across the country tonight.

Those detained include HDP co-chairs Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag.
The other detained MPs are Sirri Sureyya Onder, Ziya Pir, Ferhat Encü, Leyla Birlik, Mehmet Ali Aslan, Nursel Aydoğan, Gulser Yildirim, Idris Baluken, Abdullah Zeydan.

A source within the HDP confirmed to kurdishquestion.com that arrest warrants have been issed for four other deputies: Tugba Hezer, Faysal Sariyildiz, Imam Tasci and Nihat Akdogan. Hezer and Sariyildiz are thought to be out of the country, while Tasci and Akdogan have not been detained yet.

Reports that arrest warrants have been issued for the detainment of all 59 HDP MPs are said to be false.

'Detainments a coup'

The pro-autonomy left-wing HDP's Mardin deputy Mithat Sancar has called the operations a coup. Speaking on Sterk TV Sancar said they would not "bow down to the government's fascism," and added, "the people must come out onto the streets to defend their political will and rights."
'More MPs could be arrested in coming days'

Also speaking on Sterk TV, Istanbul MP Pervin Buldan said the detainment of MPs could continue in the coming days.

Another HDP deputy, Ertugrul Kurkcu, has told the BBC that the detentions were "totally unlawful".

He said: "This crackdown tonight is nothing to do with procedural law, criminal law, any law whatsoever or the constitution. This is an unlawful hijacking of HDP parliamentarians.
"The Turkish government is heading towards a dictatorship of Nazi style [sic].
"Will the Turkish government abide by the internationally accepted standards of parliamentary democracy? This is the basic question."

The house raids and detainments have been reported as 'operations on terror' by Turkish media.
Turkey claims that the HDP has links to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), but the party strongly denies this.

'Islamist Dictatorship' Turkey launches site to report Islamophobia in games: 'PacMan collects Muslim women'.

'Islamist Dictatorship' Turkey launches website to report Islamophobia in games: 'PacMan collects Muslim women'.

Turkey has started an online website to report Islamophobic content in digital games, Youth and Sports Minister Akif Çağatay Kılıç told Anadolu Agency Thursday.

Kılıç said video games with Islamophobic content can now be reported at www.oyunlardaislamofobi.com.

The minister highlighted the dangers of Islamophobic content in digital games.

"Digital games are now being used by the West as a means to spread Islamophobia. Therefore, we have stepped in and taken action against this digital brainwashing to save our children and youngsters.

He added, "We have determined that the holy book [Quran] and relevant places were purposefully placed in these games to provoke fear. Violence, terrorism and Islamophobia is being imposed on youngsters through digital gaming and an ugly impression of our holy religion is being woven into our children's subconscious."

To most gamers, Pac-Man inhales dots and does his best to avoid ghosts in the classic arcade game. To the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports, those ‘ghosts’ are actually veiled Muslim women and the game is a latent method of spreading Islamophobia around the world.

The website cites games that are several years old or do not have wide commercial distribution. One example is the website’s page for Pac-Man, which declares that Pac-Man, rather than do his best to avoid ghosts, “is a game of collecting veiled Muslim women. The Muslim women are figured as the virgins to be attacked.”

In April, the Islamic one man dictatorship government established an international “Islamophobia Research Center.”   Read the full 'story' here and here.

Hmmm.....It isn't Islamophobia to worry about an Islamist Country locking up all dissent like for example.........Turkey.

Islamist 'Dictatorship' Turkey purges NATO military envoys after failed coup.

Source Quote here.

Islamist 'Dictatorship' Turkey purges NATO military envoys after failed coup. (Reuters).

Turkey has fired hundreds of senior military staff serving at NATO in Europe and the United States following July's coup attempt, documents show, broadening a purge to include some of the armed forces' best-trained officials.

In a classified military dispatch seen by Reuters, 149 military envoys posted to the alliance's headquarters and command centers in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Britain were ordered on Sept. 27 to return to Turkey within three days.

Most were dismissed from service on their arrival, arrested and imprisoned, according to a Turkish military official at NATO and two farewell letters sent by departing Turkish officials emailed to colleagues at NATO and seen by Reuters.

Of the 50 military staff posted to the Turkish delegation at NATO's headquarters in Brussels, only nine remain, according to the Turkish official who spoke to Reuters. Turkish military representatives were not present in recent meetings. "Turkey is not at the table," the official said.

Turkey's ambassador to NATO, who runs a 30-strong diplomatic team at the alliance HQ, declined to comment.

One dismissed staff member, Colonel Aziz Erdogan, wrote: "The common denominator of these victims is that all of them have a ... Western educational background and secular mindset."Hmmm..........It takes a special kind of stupid not to have expected this = NATO.Read the full story here.

Turkey Finally becomes a fully-fledged 'Islamist' dictatorship.

Turkey Finally becomes a fully-fledged 'Islamist' dictatorship. (SP).

With the violent police seizure of Turkey’s biggest independent newspaper this weekend, the country has finally crossed the line to become a fully-fledged dictatorship. For many months now, the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been cracking down on media as part of a wider move towards an increasingly authoritarian regime under his ruling Justice and Development Party.

Brutal, chaotic scenes  at the offices of Zaman newspaper in Istanbul and its related publications this weekend prove beyond doubt that Erdogan's regime has now openly embraced dictatorship. This in a country which has a long history of military coups and genocidal authoritarianism.

The media group which owns Zaman, Feza Media, has been accused of "consorting with terrorists" connected to Kurdish separatists. A Turkish court then ordered at the end of last week that the newspaper be taken into administration under editors appointed by the government.

The charges are flagrantly trumped-up, of course. Zaman and its English-language daily, Today's Zaman, are "guilty" of nothing other than providing critical reports and analysis of Erdogan's government, especially over its reprehensible role in Syria's conflict since 2011.

"Consorting with terrorists" is the blanket charge that Erdogan is throwing at other independent Turkish media. Dozens of journalists have been arrested on similar charges. While other media outlets have been likewise closed down by Erdogan's ruling party.

Can Dundar, the editor of Cumhuriyet newspaper, is facing prosecution on "espionage" and "subversion" charges — and a possible life sentence in jail — simply because he published photographs last year that purported to show how Turkish state intelligence (MIT) was running weapons across the Syrian border — to supply illegally armed groups trying to overthrow the Damascus government.

Under Turkey's state constitution, freedom of media is supposed to be guaranteed from government interference. Clearly, Turkey can no longer pretend to be a democratic state. The constitution has been sacked in the most graphic way. It is now a dictatorship where those who criticize the "ruler" are liable to receive prison sentences because they are either "terrorist supporters" or "insulting" his ego.

The increasingly despotic nature of Turkey under Erdogan is intimately bound up with his regime's criminal aggression towards Syria. Over the past five years, Erdogan has moved from covert sponsorship of terror proxies in Syria to a blatant role in waging aggression.

Erdogan is getting away with this brutal conduct largely because he is being indulged by Washington, the European Union and the US-led NATO military alliance, of which Turkey is a member.

These Western institutions are all equally complicit in Turkey's state-sponsored terrorism against Syria. So, as the Erdogan regime gags the Turkish media, his Western allies are obliged to keep their mouths shut too. Hmmm......Erdogan Obama's BFF. Read the full story here.

Erdogan regime silences dissent by taking over largest opposition paper, EU to reward Regime with visa free travel

Erdogan regime silences dissent by taking over largest opposition paper, EU to reward Regime with visa free travel. (TZ).

Turkish police fired tear gas and used water cannon on a crowd to forcibly enter the country's top-selling newspaper on Friday after a court ordered its confiscation.

An İstanbul court appointed trustees to take over the management of the Feza Media Group, which includes Turkey’s biggest-selling newspaper, the Zaman daily, as well as the Today’s Zaman daily and the Cihan news agency, dealing a fresh blow to the already battered media freedom in Turkey.

Police in riot gear pushed back Zaman supporters who stood in the rain outside its İstanbul office where they waved Turkish flags and carried placards reading "Hands off my newspaper" before they were overcome by clouds of tear gas.

Officers then forcibly broke down a gate and rushed into the building. The footage showed them scuffling with Zaman staff inside the offices.

Zaman employees waiting near the entrance said police immediately tear-gassed hundreds of readers who had gathered outside Zaman newspaper to protest the ruling without even delivering the court decision.

Employees shouted 'free press cannot be silenced," as hundreds of police officers entered the building. Zaman daily Editor-in-Chief Abdülhamit Bilici, who had hard time in speaking due to tear gas that covered inside the building, said the scene will be noted in the Turkish history as a black stain.

Police then went to the management floor in the building. Police initially prevented Bilici from entering his office but they later let him in. Bilici was heard saying he does not recognize the court decision. Read and see the full story here.

Toilet seats installed in Turkey's ‘Ak Saray’ palace cost $2,200 and $4,500, respectively.

Toilet seats installed in Turkey's ‘Ak Saray’ palace cost $2,200 and $4,500, respectively. (BN).

Tezcan Karakuş Candan, the chairwoman of the Turkish Chamber of Architects Ankara office, shared the pricing information with the public on Wednesday.

Tezcan said “the price depends on the rank of the intended users.”

“Two types of toilet seats were installed in the palace which cost TL 5,000 ($2,200) and TL 10,000 ($4,500), respectively. We are saying the minimum price of the toilet seats. If those are custom-made, the price will go three times higher,” Tezcan said.

The value of a single toilet seat could keep nine families in bread, she added.

Talking about the real number of rooms in “Ak Saray” she said that she's backing the Chamber’s statement that it has 2,000 rooms; not 1,000. Hmmm......'La Folie des grandeurs' While parts of the population can't afford education for their children......'Islamist Justice 101'

"L'Etat c'est Moi" - Erdoğan reorganizes presidency, ‘shadow cabinet’ to monitor PM cabinet.

"L'Etat c'est Moi" - Erdoğan reorganizes presidency, ‘shadow cabinet’ to monitor PM cabinet. (Bugun).

The decree, however, was drafted as a “secret decree,” meaning that it was not published in the Official Gazette as it goes into force, despite having been signed by President Erdoğan on Dec. 9, daily Hürriyet reported.

There were previously four directorate-generals in the presidential office in charge of administrative and financial affairs, institutional communication, informatics technologies and human resources.

With the new decree going into force, the number of these departments increased from four to 13.

The new departments will be in charge of a wide range of affairs such as homeland security, external relations, economy, defense, investment monitoring, energy and social affairs. An additional communication center will also be set up at the presidential office. (In the US they call them Czars)

Reports to be drafted by each directorate-general will be introduced to the deputy secretary-general of the office and then presented to Erdoğan.

In the run-up to the presidential election in August, which he won in the first round, Erdoğan repeatedly stated that the current Constitution grants “executive power” to a president who comes to office through popular vote, just as the 1982 Constitution granted “executive power” to the 1980 military coup leader Kenan Evren. Hmmmm....Another "I'm not a dictator in the Middle East" 'advanced Democracy' as he calls it.

In the new 'Islamist' Turkey rulers are only Accountable in the ‘presence of God’.

In the new 'Islamist' Turkey rulers are only Accountable in the ‘presence of God’. (HD). By BURAK BEKDİL.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has pledged that from now on, “with God’s permission,” no prime minister shall be held accountable at a court, he will only be accountable “to those who vote for him, and in the presence of God.”

That is a perfect expression of Islamist democracy featuring worship of the ballot box as long as it produces votes “for us.” It might be useful to recall some names and numbers. Hmmm.....Burak Bekdil is one of the best journalists Turkey has to offer. Read the full story here.

HRW: "Turkey: Strike Down Abusive Internet Measures"

HRW: "Turkey: Strike Down Abusive Internet Measures" (HRW).

The second measure mandates the Telecom Directorate to centrally store internet users’ metadata such as online browsing histories, websites visited, and which email addresses a user corresponds with. Such information can be highly revealing of intimate details of online activity, potentially contributing to political profiling of individuals.

Unchecked government access to users’ metadata and browsing history not only violates the right to privacy, but could harm a range of other rights like freedom of expression, association, or the right to health, Human Rights Watch said. Currently internet service providers store this data and make it available only when required to do so by a court order.

“The retention of metadata by the Telecom Directorate is deeply worrying because it gives the body the direct capacity to conduct surveillance on people’s internet use,” Sinclair-Webb said. “The Turkish government very publicly champions the privacy rights of politicians but doesn’t believe in ordinary people’s right to privacy.”

'Advanced Democracy' - Turkey’s Erdogan signs law to have users’ browsing history stored for 2 years.

The 'evil' Djinn is out of the bottle it seems.

'Advanced Democracy' - Turkey’s Erdogan signs law to have users’ browsing history stored for 2 years.(RT).

The Turkish President has further tightened government control of the internet as he approved a law that lets the country’s telecoms authority block sites as it deems necessary and forces hosting providers to store users’ browsing history for two years.

Following the steps taken by the country’s Parliament – which passed this same law on Monday – Turkish leader Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday also ratified the law for the sake of “national security”and “public order and the prevention of crimes".

The new law essentially expands the legislation passed in February that allowed the authorities to block access to web pages without a prior court order. Unlike this recently passed law, the previous legislation limited those powers to cases of privacy violations. That move was still protested by an angry public that slammed the government for cracking down on freedom of speech in the country.

This time, Erdogan let the telecoms authority Telecommunication Transmission Directorate (TIB), headed by a former intelligence official, to monitor internet users, block websites and their content without a court order.

The new law stipulates that service providers must either block the website or remove the content within four hours. The head of the directorate will have to seek a legal framework only after shutting down the website.

Moreover, the TİB is obliged to store the browsing history of all web users and the entire web traffic, so that in case of a criminal investigation and a court order, the necessary information could be quickly handed over to relevant bodies.

This means the TIB will be storing online communications – and information on which websites internet users visited – for two years.

“Everyone could be subject to this interception from administrative bodies without a judicial order. Without a law that defines the conditions of storage, the limits of storage and the purpose of storage, it is more than problematic,” a foreign diplomat told the Hürriyet Daily News on Thursday.Hmmm.....STASI...'Islamic style'

Turkey - Non-Muslim Armenian students, with failing grades placed in Islamic high schools.

Non-Muslim Armenian students, with failing grades placed in Islamic high schools. HT: TodaysZaman.

Two non-Muslim students have been automatically enrolled in imam-hatip high schools -- which provide Islamic religious education -- after they received low marks on the Transition from Primary to Secondary Education (TEOG) exam held in June, a media report has revealed.

According to a report by the Hürriyet daily, one of the students, Arda Christof A., an ethnic Armenian, received a score of 257.3422 on the exam -- too low to enter schools other than imam-hatip high schools -- and was automatically enrolled in the school, prompting a negative reaction by the student and his family.

All eighth grade students who will enroll in high schools in Turkey must take the TEOG exam, forcing them to make a choice between two options if they fail to get high enough scores on the exam: vocational schools or imam-hatip schools. And if they fail to choose one, most are automatically enrolled in imam-hatip high schools.

Hmmmm....Makes me wonder, you don't need grades to become a Turkish Imam?Read the full story here.
