Isis paying smugglers up to $2,000 in recruitment drive among child refugees in camps.

Islamic State is paying the smugglers’ fees of child refugees in a desperate attempt to attract new recruits, according to a report highlighting the potential vulnerability of unaccompanied minors to radicalisation.

The report, from counter-extremism thinktank Quilliam, also says that an estimated 88,300 unaccompanied children – identified by the European Union’s police agency Europol as having gone missing – were at risk of being radicalised.

Citing failures in the approach of Europe, particularly the UK, towards protecting child refugees travelling alone, the report, published on Monday, warns that jihadi groups, including Isis and Boko Haram, have attempted to recruit within refugee camps using financial incentives, as well as working with the people smugglers.

Quilliam said that Isis had offered up to $2,000 (£1,600) to recruit within camps in Lebanon and Jordan. Last year, Jordanian special forces reportedly found what they described as an Isis sleeper cell inside a refugee camp near Irbid, north Jordan. Additional reports indicated that Isis had tried to recruit refugees by supplying food previously withheld from camp residents.

Researchers identified a number of risk “hotspots” where refugees and young people were particularly vulnerable to recruitment by extremist organisations. One of the most acute of these is the north African coast where Quilliam said Isis fighters have offered £800 to those who join them.

Another so-called hotspot is the south Libyan town of Qatrun, where reports have indicated that Isis, which is believed to have between 4,000 to 6,000 fighters in the region, has waived £450 smuggler fees to allow refugees to travel north if they joined its ranks. Read the full story here.

Islamist Dictatorship Turkey's school system has been seized by Salafists”: 'Darwin out, jihad in'.

Islamist Dictatorship Turkey's school system has been seized by Salafists”: 'Darwin out, jihad in'. (Arabweekly).

Some of the most alarming figures about crisis-stricken Turkey depict its dilapidated educational system.

An international Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) report released in December placed Turkey second from bottom among 35 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries in mathematics, science and reading scores for 2015. Turkey slipped an average of seven places in mathematics, science and reading compared to rankings in the 2012 PISA survey.

The report’s findings also highlight that, compared to other OECD countries, Turkish teachers have the longest working hours, the highest number of students per class and the lowest starting salaries.

“The Turkish education system is in a coma. This crisis is more serious than the European Union and dollar issues. The PISA 2015 results are clearly telling us, Turkey cannot understand even what it has read,” said Ceyhun Irgil, a deputy of the main-opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP).

Such cries have hardly been heard due to the political crisis over proposed changes to the constitution to give the president more power and the lack of a properly functioning media.

As if the drop in test scores were not enough, the government announced changes in the curriculum, which are seen as the clear Islamisation of content.

Religious studies textbooks describe terms such as “secularism”, “positivism”, “reincarnation”, “nihilism” and “atheism” under the heading “’problematic beliefs”, and as “maladies”.
In religious secondary schools — so-called Imam Hatip schools — the concept of jihad has been added to the content in a new chapter titled Battle on the Path of Allah: Jihad. In those schools, severe limitations are imposed on music classes.
Staunchly defying a series of rulings by the European Court of Human Rights, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government insists on keeping religion courses compulsory in state schools.

Dominated by the teaching of Sunni Muslim practices, the classes have caused outrage within the Alevi Muslim minority, as well as secular segments of society. The government insists that the religion books teach the “culture of religions” but these arguments are contradicted by the content of the pages.

There is more: Teaching the theory of evolution has been stopped in secondary schools. Tayfun Atay, an anthropologist whose work focuses on Anatolian Islam, fiercely criticised the changes in a series of articles in which he concluded that the “Turkish school system has been seized by Salafists”.

Names of the founding fathers of the republic have been revised radically in the new curriculum. Pupils will not be taught about Ismet Inonu, successor of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk as president and his crucial role in keeping Turkey a neutral power until the end of the second world war. As his name was stricken from the pages, the mention of Ataturk was decreased to a minimum.

Turkish Minister of Education Nabi Avci and his staff downplayed the changes, saying that “it is a draft to be revisited after reactions”. Yet the mistrust of the government by secular Turks has deepened so much that it is taken for granted objections would be ignored.

Insensitivity and imposition are the pattern of the AKP, which remains under fire for not consulting stakeholders, including unions and parent-teacher associations.

Adding salt to the wound, state of emergency decrees following July’s coup attempt led to sacking or suspension of more than 30,000 teachers, many identified as secular, left-leaning or Kurdish. Their replacements have been systematically chosen based on partisanship rather than skills, Turkey’s Education and Science Workers’ Union claimed.

‘Extremist’ children under 10 referred to UK de-radicalization programs daily

‘Extremist’ children under 10 referred to UK de-radicalization programs daily. (RT).

Efforts to stem Islamic and far-right extremism in the UK have led to children under the age of 10 being referred to government de-radicalization programs on an almost daily basis, new figures show.

A total of 4,611 people, around half of them children and teens, have been flagged up for possible intervention in the past year to stop them falling under the influence of extremist ideologies.

The figures have jumped 75 percent since last year, when local authorities - including schools and councils - were given a statutory duty to stop people being drawn into terrorism, known as the Prevent strategy.

Islamic extremism is involved in 70 percent of those referred, while 15 percent of cases are related to far-right ideas, figures released under the Freedom of Information Act show.

A spokesperson for the Home Office said: “We have a duty to challenge, at every turn, the twisted narrative that has exploited some of our vulnerable young people.' Read the full story here.

Islamic State's Child Soldiers 'the Caliphate Cubs' : First Come the Sweets, Then the Beheadings.

Islamic State's Child Soldiers 'the Caliphate Cubs' : First Come the Sweets, Then the Beheadings. (Spiegel).

The Islamic State is holding thousands of young boys captive in Syria and Iraq, where it is teaching them the Koran and how to become deadly child soldiers.

In a tent in a refugee camp in Dohuk, at the base of ochre-colored mountains, Amir and Ahmed, 15 and 16, unroll their mats on the floor to forget the terrible memories. It's a cool autumn evening, and they prop themselves up with cushions and turn on the TV. The two brothers fled from their captivity at the hands of the Islamic State (IS) six months ago. Now all they want to do is watch some cartoons.

The brothers flip through the channels. IS also has its own propaganda station, which viewers can easily receive here, in Kurdish northern Iraq. Ahmed, holding the remote control in his hand, suddenly calls out: "There we are Amir! That's us!" The brothers recognize themselves on the screen: dressed in black outfits, their faces masked, with other child soldiers during combat training in Mosul.

It is now spring, and that evening spent in front of the television is a few months in the past. Ahmed and Amir, sitting close together, talk about it in the same small tent in the camp. Ahmed, the older of the two, speaks in a hoarse voice about their time with IS, while Amir stares at the floor. "They gave us drugs, and we believed everything after that," they say

Ahmed and Amir were held hostage by IS for nine months, imprisoned in a military camp in Mosul, the IS stronghold in Iraq. There the terrorist organization used beatings and weapons to train them to become child soldiers, or "lion cubs of the caliphate," as IS puts it. The "lion cubs" blow themselves up to kill supposed infidels. They witness beheadings, to learn how they are done. They donate blood for injured adult fighters. And they turn in traitors.

It is difficult to determine how many child soldiers Islamic State is training. Experts estimate that about 1,500 boys are serving the terrorist group in Iraq and Syria. Some are born to the militants. In fact, more than 31,000 women are currently pregnant in IS-held territory. Other children arrive with their parents from abroad when the parents join the jihadist movement. In many cases, the "lion cubs" are also children of local fighters or orphans who join IS voluntarily. Others, like Ahmed and Amir, are kidnapped. Read the full story here.

Austrian Gov Study Finds Muslim Brotherhood Links To kindergartens In Austria.

Austrian Gov Study Finds Muslim Brotherhood Links To kindergartens In Austria. (TheLocal).

A state-funded study into Islamic kindergartens in Vienna suggests that Islamist groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood and its Turkish counterpart Milli Gorus have links to some of the capital's preschools.

Austria’s Integration Minister Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) wants to introduce tighter controls on Islamic kindergartens to prevent radicalization and said he believed the study was necessary because there is a danger of “parallel societies emerging”.
The author of the study, Ednan Aslan, is a professor at the Institute of Islamic Studies at Vienna University. He found that the religious education preached by several of the capital's 150 Muslim establishments led to "theologically-motivated isolation" and robbed children of their autonomy through "intimidation".

"Intellectual Salafists and political Islamists are the dominant groups in the Islamic kindergarten scene in Vienna," the study concluded.

“In many of their publications the Muslim Brotherhood and Milli Gorus reject the Western way of life as an inferior worldview,” Aslan writes in the 178 page study.

He told the Standard newspaper that it was not acceptable that a representative of the Muslim Brotherhood, who runs a kindergarten in Vienna, should openly support the war in Syria or appear in a video in which he states that "we want to evangelize in Europe".

Many of the private Islamic preschools are subsidized by the City of Vienna - to the tune of €30 million - according to a report in the Krone newspaper.

Aslan said that the majority of the Islamic kindergartens were unwilling to participate in his study and that some took down their websites to make some data inaccessible. Only 71 out of 150 Islamic kindergartens agreed to be part of the study.

The Krone quotes one integration expert who contributed to Aslan’s report as saying that it is as easy to open an Islamic kindergarten in Vienna as it is “to open a kebab shop”.

The FPÖ deputy mayor of Vienna, Johann Gudenus, has said that he wants to hold a special parliamentary session on the subject of Islamic kindergartens and a motion of no confidence against the head of the education board, Sonja Wehsely (SPÖ).

Gudenus added all kindergartens in the capital should be run by the City of Vienna, and not by private individuals or groups. Hmmmm......ALL Islamist roads lead to Turkey and the EU wants to give them free entrance in to Europe. Read the full story here.

Vice News presents: 'Inside the Al Nusra Academy Training the Next Generation of Jihadis'

Vice News presents: 'Inside the Al Nusra Academy Training the Next Generation of Jihadis' HT: ViceNews.

In a classroom in northern Syria's Aleppo province a teacher begins a lesson by saying: "Today we will learn about faith and beliefs."

Abu Baser questions the assembled boys — all in khaki green — on the meaning of the word "faith," before having them repeat: "The war gains belong to God and the messenger."

This is the Lion Cubs Religious Academy, one of several schools run by al Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, the al Nusra Front. VICE News filmmaker Medyan Dairieh gained exclusive access to the group earlier this year, spending time with the militia's current leadership and the younger generation being groomed to replace them.

His footage shows children singing songs with lyrics like: "Oh mother, don't be sad, I've chosen the land of jihad. Wipe your tears, I only went to fight the Jews," and "Our leader [Osama] bin Laden who scares America with the power of his faith and his PK gun."

In unison, they later chorus together: "All the Christians and a message to America, your grave is in Syria, our Front is victorious." Read and see the full story here.

'Approach Muslim extremism as we approached WWII' – Former British Army chief.

'Approach Muslim extremism as we approached WWII' – ex-British Army chief. (RT).

Britain must stop ‘sleepwalking’ and accept Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) is an existential threat that must be defeated through ‘military intervention,’ according to the former head of the British Army.

General Sir David Richards, now known as Baron Richards of Herstmonceux, headed the British armed forces from 2010 to 2013.

Speaking at the Chalke Valley History Festival, Richards said: “I think the problem is that we have not seen that we need to approach this issue of Muslim extremism as we might approach World War Two back in the 30s.

He criticized the UK’s political leaders who, he felt, were not doing enough to combat the IS threat.
This is a real threat to us and we’re sleepwalking in the way we’re approaching it,” he said.

Richards claimed time is running out to deal with the so-called Islamic State, which he called “an existential threat to all of us.” “In [a] generation, even in 10 years, a hell of a lot of damage is going to happen and it will continue to draw all sorts of people into their ranks and get stronger and stronger.”

There has been considerable debate over whether or not IS presents an existential danger to the West.

Prime Minister David Cameron has called the rise of this militant group a “mortal threat.”

However, according to a study by the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), the government privately considers the risks faced by the UK less than existential, a position which is reflected by current defense policy, particularly military austerity.

The RUSI report, published in March, concludes: “The government is not yet convinced that strategic security risks are high enough to justify an exemption for defense from austerity.Hmmm.......what use to have financial wealth if you're dead and buried? Read the full story here.
