Republicans believe they have identified a potent weapon in their fight against President Obama’s regulatory agenda. GOP lawmakers plan to employ the seldom-used Congressional Review Act (CRA), which gives lawmakers the power to formally disapprove of major agency rules, as they seek to ratchet up their attacks on federal red tape. 

“It hasn’t been possible to use this in a divided Congress,” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) told The Hill, “but now that it is, we certainly are interested in reviewing regulations to make sure they meet with congressional intent.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) began threatening to use the CRA to stop regulations last year, after the Environmental Protection Agency proposed a rule aimed at cutting carbon emissions from new power plants.

“That’s why I, along with about 40 Republican co-sponsors ... intend to file a resolution of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act to ensure a vote to stop this devastating rule,” he said at the time.

While Obama can and likely will veto any efforts to undo regulations through the CRA, the threats carry more weight now that Republicans control both chambers of Congress.

“There is widespread agreement among Republicans and the business community that the EPA under the Obama administration is out of control and it’s taking things to the extreme,” a senior aide to Inhofe said.Read the full story here.

Lost in the hoopla of President Obama’s enormous administrative amnesty affecting mostly Mexican and Central American illegal immigrants is that he also implemented a special protective order allowing people from Ebola nations to stay in the United States.

It’s amnesty on steroids! The special Ebola reprieve was issued separately—and quietly—via a Temporary Protected Status (TPS), a humanitarian program that’s supposed to be short-term. 

Instead, we’ve seen the provisional benefit grow into a continual U.S. residency plan for illegal aliens under both Republican and Democratic presidents. Besides those who have entered the U.S. illegally, TPS has also helped foreigners who have overstayed their visa permanently evade deportation. That makes the phrase “temporary” deceiving and somewhat of a joke.

It also means that we might as well add the African Ebola folks to the official amnesty bandwagon. For now, the administration is designating Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone for TPS for 18 months. That’s how it always starts—for a short period of time then it grows into years. Before you know it, illegal aliens who benefitted from TPS for humanitarian reasons are legal residents enjoying all the generous perks—free education, food stamps, medical care etc.—that Uncle Sam has to offer.

This scenario has been repeated over the years. In fact, just a few weeks ago the administration extended TPS for tens of thousands of Hondurans and Nicaraguans. The order was originally issued more than a decade and a half ago after a hurricane (Mitch) hit the Central American countries and has been renewed over and over again, illustrating that there’s nothing temporary about these reprieves. “There continues to be a substantial, but temporary, disruption of living conditions in Honduras (replace the word with Nicaragua) resulting from Hurricane Mitch, and Honduras remains unable, temporarily, to handle adequately the return of its nationals,” according to the government announcement posted to the federal register in mid-October.

Another recent example is the TPS the Obama administration gave to nearly 50,000 Haitians after the 2010 earthquake. In mid-2011 the president’s first Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano, renewed it through 2013 and when that temporary order expired the Haitian TPS got extended yet again until the end of January 2016. “The Secretary has determined that an extension is warranted because the conditions in Haiti that prompted the TPS designation continue to be met,” according to the latest extension announcement. “There continues to be a substantial, but temporary, disruption of living conditions in Haiti based upon extraordinary and temporary conditions in that country that prevent Haitians who have TPS from safely returning.”

This week’s TPS du jour was issued “due to the outbreak of Ebola virus disease in West Africa” and officially takes effect today, according to the government’s announcement. Besides nationals of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, it also covers “people without nationality who last habitually resided in one of those three countries,” the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) document states. Not only will these folks not be removed from the United States, the agency assures, they are authorized to work in this country like all other illegal immigrants benefitting from TPS.

President Obama plans to announce his executive on immigration order as early as Thursday, though the announcement may wait until an appearance Obama plans to make in Las Vegas on Friday, according to CNBC.

According to the report:

President Barack Obama plans to announce an executive order in Las Vegas on Friday to address immigration reform, CNBC has confirmed. 

Another source familiar with the situation told CNBC that Obama could yet give a broader outline on an immigration order on Thursday and add detail on Friday.

The trip to Las Vegas was not previously on the White House schedule. It appears to be a surprise journey that will include the announcement.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has been urging Obama to “go big” on immigration. No doubt he will be on hand for the event.

One report said Obama will appear at Del Sol High School, where Mr. Obama gave a major immigration speech in 2013.


The immigration order is expected to grant temporary amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants through “prosecutorial discretion,” under which the administration will simply refuse to charge and deport them. They are also expected to obtain temporary legal status, though not citizenship.

Cartoonist Martin Rowson urges cartoonists to caricature Turkey’s president Erdoğan, to highlight the trial of a Turkish cartoonist who lampooned him

The cartoonist and author Martin Rowson has encouraged people around the world to draw caricatures of Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in an attempt to raise awareness of a perceived clampdown on Turkish cartoonists wishing to lampoon him. 

Over a series of messages on Twitter, Rowson, a regular Guardian contributor, wrote:

“President Erdoğan of Turkey is seeking 10 year stretch for a Turkish cartoonist. Recently another Turkish cartoonist was heavily fined for drawing Erdogan as a cat.  “Maybe, if it’s safe, a whole pile of cartoonists round the world should tweet their cartoons of Erdoğan to teach him some humility before God and us cartoonists. Otherwise he might give the very strong impression that he’s a chippy narcissistic despot. The very idea! I’ll file my#ErdoganCaricature tomorrow morning. Start scribbling, comrades!”

The Obama administration has shunned multiple requests to respond to a disturbing report exposing its secret plan to admit Ebola-infected foreigners into the United States for treatment and now Congress has joined Judicial Watch to demand answers.

Will the administration blow off Congress the way it has Judicial Watch?

In the last couple of days JW has contacted a number of  government agencies that may be involved in the backdoor plan for comment but all except one have ignored the requests, both telephonic and by electronic mail. Only the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offered a response, albeit a curt one. “We have nothing for you on that,” CDC spokeswoman Amesheia Buckner told JW this week.


Other agencies, such as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), simply discounted JW’s requests—both verbal and in writing—for comment.

Specifically, the Obama administration’s goal is to bring Ebola patients into the United States for treatment within the first days of diagnosis, according to high-level sources that provided JW with details of the scheme.

It includes special waivers of laws and regulations that ban the admission of non-citizens with a communicable disease as dangerous as Ebola. Read the full story here.

President Barack Obama is looking to create the largest marine preserve in the world in the Pacific Ocean, AP reported.

The White House says Obama wants to protect a massive stretch of ocean from drilling, fishing and other actions that could threaten wildlife. He's considering expanding protected waters that surround a group of mostly uninhabited islands the U.S. controls near Hawaii and American Samoa.

Obama will announce the executive action Tuesday. But the White House says it will listen to public input and is still finalizing the sanctuary's boundaries.

Obama also plans to create a program to address prohibited fish and seafood trade. The actions were first reported by The Washington Post.

The expansion comes as Obama is seeking ways to protect climate and the environmental despite opposition in Congress.Hmmmm.....'The world is not enough'?

Referring to main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Erdoğan had said, “There are those who call me a dictator and who happen to be sitting right across from me,” during a speech delivered at the 70th Financial General Assembly of the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB), which was held on May 22.

This has fuelled the dictatorship debates between the two leaders. Some people claimed that with this move, Erdoğan aimed to show the 45 percent of people who voted for him in the elections that he is not a dictator.

Even if it were Erdoğan's real intention, it was the wrong move.

Referring to the book “The Psychology of Dictatorship” by Fathali Moghaddam, a Georgetown University academic, Kılıçdaroğlu said Erdoğan fits the academic description of a dictator.

Robert Van Tuinen, a student at Modesto Junior College in California, had a theory. He believed that the policies at his college limiting protests and expression were so restrictive that the college would try to shut him down even if he tried to hand out copies of the United States Constitution on September 17–Constitution Day.

Sadly, he was correct.


Not 10 minutes after Van Tuinen began handing out copies of the Constitution, a campus police officer arrived to stop him. Van Tuinen was informed that anytime someone wants to pass out anything on campus, it must first be registered and approved by the Student Development office.

Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio warned Tuesday that some on the Republican side of immigration reform could come up empty-handed if the Senate’s “Gang of Eight” plan fails.

In an appearance on WFLA’s “The Morning Show with Preston Scott” in Tallahassee, Fla., Rubio explained that President Barack Obama will be tempted to enact his own immigration reform measures by executive order if Congress does not pass an immigration bill. An Obama executive order would legalize 11 million undocumented immigrants, he said.

“I have been saying now for over a year I believe that this president tempted, will be tempted, if nothing happens in Congress he will be tempted, to issue an executive order like he did for the DREAM Act kids a year ago, where he basically legalizes 11 million people by the sign of a pen,” Rubio said. “We won’t get an E-Verify, we won’t get any border security - but he’ll legalize them. So what I have tried to do is come up with as best as possible, given who controls the Senate, a way to start this conversation to at least address some of these issues because it only gets worse as times goes on.”Read the full story here.

USDA Employees Told to Repeat Chant: “If we work for a federal agency, we’ve discriminated in the past.”

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released additional excerpts from United Stated Department of Agriculture (USDA) videos revealing a compulsory “Cultural Sensitivity Training” program where diversity awareness trainer and self-described “citizen of the world” Samuel Betances tells USDA employees to repeat the chant “If we work for a federal agency, we’ve discriminated in the past.” Betances also suggested to USDA employees that the United States “took over what used to be Mexico” and stated that schools are only interested in educating middle class children.

In previous excerpts uncovered by Judicial Watch, Betances instructs USDA employees to chant in unison “The pilgrims were illegal aliens” while being instructed to no longer use the word “minorities,” but to replace it with “emerging majorities.” FOIA documents released by Judicial Watch today reveal that the seminar was given to USDA employees at least 16 times last year and was designed to raise the “emotional intelligence” of the government attendees.

The sensitivity training sessions, described as “a huge expense,” by Betances during the presentation, were held on USDA premises. The diversity event is apparently part of what USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack described in a memo sent to all agency employees as “new era of Civil Rights” and “a broader effort towards cultural transformation at USDA.” In 2011 and 2012, the USDA paid Betances and his firm nearly $200,000 for their part in the “cultural transformation” program.

As reported by Fox News in October, 2012, Judicial Watch first broke the news of the USDA compulsory sensitivity training program based upon information it obtained in response to a FOIA request. That request was prompted by a tip from a USDA whistleblower.

Judicial Watch also previously uncovered information revealing that in April 2011, the USDA had treated 300 of its employees to a taxpayer-funded ‘tasty celebration’ of dishes from around the world, salsa dancing lessons from Vincent Loran, and a rap performance by a USDA employee who shared his feelings on human differences.Hmmmm.....Why does Chairman Mao's little red book come to my mind?Read the full story here.

European leaders are thought to be sympathetic to the lobbying fearing that, under pressure from his party lin Congress, Mitt Romney would be a more isolationist president than Mr Obama.
