Iran says it strongly opposes Saudi Arabia’s efforts to send “terrorists in a new mask” to talks between the Syrian government and the opposition.

The kingdom brought together a number of militant groups in Riyadh Wednesday to decide whether to attend UN peace talks due in Geneva on Friday. They failed to reach a final decision, postponing it until Thursday.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Thursday Saudi Arabia is trying to raise its influence at the Geneva talks by including “terrorists” in the opposition lists.

“Terrorists with a new mask should not sit down at a negotiating table with the representatives of the Syrian authorities,” he told a news conference during a visit to Moscow.

“This is the most important condition,” Amir-Abdollahian said, calling on Saudi Arabia to stop stoking tension in the Middle East.

“We believe that Saudi Arabia’s insistence on including recognizable terrorists … in one list or another, is certainly not a constructive action on its part,” he added.

Amir-Abdollahian and his Russian counterpart Mikhail Bogdanov said after a meeting on Wednesday that the two countries shared a common view on the settlement of the regional crises.


“Moscow and Tehran have common position on the regulation of the Middle East problems; we also have the same position on Syria,” Amir-Abdollahian told reporters after the meeting.

Bogdanov serves as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy for the Middle East and Africa. Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Moscow on Wednesday for consultations with Russian officials on regional issues.

Sources familiar with the recent meeting between the United Nations envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, and members of the High Committee for Negotiations say the envoy faced a solid delegation which appeared to have reached a clear consensus.

The sources told Al-Souria Net that the committee’s general coordinator, Riyad Hijab, insisted in his recent meeting with de Mistura on adhering to the principles demanded by the Syrian people, and said there was no room for compromise.

Al-Souria Net learned that Hijab specified four red lines which cannot be abandoned in any negotiation process with the Assad regime:

The establishment of a pluralistic regime – representing the full spectrum of the Syrian people – with no place for Bashar al-Assad, the military leadership or prominent figures of his regime in any current or future political arrangements; adhering to the integrity of Syrian territory; preserving the state institutions while restructuring and reforming its security and military institutions; and rejecting terrorism in all its forms.

Hijab stressed his full support for the efforts of the UN envoy in carrying out the provisions of the Geneva 2012 statement and UN Security Council decision 2118 to launch a political process conducive to the establishment of a transitional ruling body with full powers. He expressed his full readiness to cooperate with the UN envoy in taking the necessary steps to launch the political process and guarantee its success, stressing the need to commit to official direct communication channels with the general coordinator for the High Committee for Negotiations.

Hijab also noted the need for the international community to open channels to negotiate with those who have the real ability to create a ceasefire and guarantee it is adhered to, in accordance with binding international resolutions.

Hijab noted that some countries were bent on diplomatic attrition and were wasting time by requiring a unified terrorism list to be issued by countries holding different views on the definition of terrorism. He considered this to be a destructive attempt to hinder the political process.

Hijab added that the counter-terrorism track would require working to remove thousands of foreign fighters, whether members of the Islamic State group or sectarian factions or mercenary groups of various nationalities.

Addressing the role of the international community, Hijab stressed that, “the complexity of the crisis and the entry of various foreign parties places before us demands which we cannot ignore or get rid of under a UN resolution that aims to reach international consensus at the expense of the Syrian people. Security Council resolution 2254 has left serious gaps which the initiative must fill to guarantee the launch of a viable political process in Syria.”

He added: “It is not appropriate to issue a clause calling for an end to attacks against civilians and civilian targets, the targeting of medical facilities and those working in them, and the use of indiscriminate weapons including artillery and aerial bombardment, when the following day one of the international powers signing the resolution targets populated areas and uses cluster munitions and kills civilians and leaders of moderate factions who we are depended upon to guarantee the progress of the negotiating process and to fight ISIS [a reference to Russia]. This empties the resolution of its content and makes the concept of confidence-building unattainable, especially given that the resolution did not specify a timeframe to implement the ceasefire.”Read the full story here.

According to reports from inside the Iranian regime’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Qassem Suleimani, the notorious commander of the terrorist Qods Force, has suffered severe shrapnel wounds, including in the head, while at Aleppo’s southern front two weeks ago.

Qassem Suleimani’s vehicle that was there for him to oversee an operation by the revolutionary guards and a number of hired forces was targeted by the Free Syrian Army severely injuring Suleimani.

Due to the severity of his wounds he was immediately transferred by an IRGC helicopter to Damascus and after receiving preliminary treatment was transferred to Tehran. He was hospitalized at IRGC Baqiyatollah Hospital which is in Tehran’s Mollasadra Street and so far has undergone at least two surgeries.

He is in the ICU (Section C7) of this hospital on the seventh floor and is not allowed any visitors. A group of doctors headed by Dr. Gholamreza Farzanegan, a neurologist and brain specialist, oversees his condition. Dr. Alireza Jalali, head of the Baqiyatollah Hospital directly follows up Soleimani’s condition. The head of Section C7 is Dr. Amir Davoudi and IRGC element Sheikhi is the coordinator of Section C7.

The IRGC counterintelligence section has imposed severe restrictions to prevent any leakage of information of Soleimani being wounded and has ordered all hospital personnel to refrain from answering any questions in this regard.

The Iranian regime is worried that the news on Soleimani’s injury would cause a complete collapse of moral of the IRGC forces and the militias in Syria. Even now, the revolutionary guards are quite frightened and anxious due to the large number of casualties they have suffered in the past couple of months in Syria.

As the revolution of the Syrian people is soon entering its sixth year, the supreme leader of Iranian regime Khamenei and the IRGC are facing consecutive defeats despite tapping all their military, economic and political resources in the war against the Syrian people and their revolution.

Corpses of the revolutionary guards are being transferred to various Iranian cities on a daily basis while other corpses are left behind in the liberated areas of Syria.

These consecutive defeats that have taken on an escalating trend since winter 2014, has compelled the Iranian regime to seek Russia’s help to prevent a swift overthrow of Assad.

It is futilely hoping that through employing the aerial firepower of Russia, using its Revolutionary Guards along with its hired militias such as the Hezbollah, Iraqi mercenary militias, Afghan and Pakistani mercenaries, and the remainder of Assad’s army, it would be able to crush Syria’s revolution.

However, after the most intense bombings and massacre of thousands of civilians in the past couple of months, the Iranian regime has nothing to show for it except an unprecedented increase in the number of Revolutionary Guards’ corpses, including many IRGC brigadier generals. Hmmm.......Considering he allegedly led the rescue of the second Russian pilot from 'his hospital bed' he's still alive and kicking.

According to the private Doğan news agency, 26-year-old Ahmet Dahmani, a Belgian citizen of Moroccan origin who is suspected of having explored Paris sites attacked by ISIL, was captured in the Manavgat district on Friday where he was staying at a hotel. 

Police raided the five-star hotel and detained Dahmani. Police also detained two other ISIL militants, Ahmet Tahir and Muhammad Verd, who were reportedly set to meet with Dahmani, along the Antalya-Alanya Highway.

The two reportedly entered Turkey with fake passports to meet with Dahmani and secure his return to Syria.

The three men were later arrested by an Antalya court.

Earlier this week, Turkey said it began deporting a group of Moroccans detained at Istanbul's main airport over suspected links to ISIL on Thursday. Hmmm......When will Turkish papers learn the difference between a 'militant' and a recognized 'terrorist' group?

Russian president’s special envoy for the Middle East and African countries and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov received on Monday a delegation of Syria’s opposition National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change led by its general coordinator.

"The sides discussed in detail the situation in and around Syria with a focus on issues of political and diplomatic settlement of the Syrian crisis," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Special attention was paid to the launch of inclusive intra-Syria negotiating process of the basis of the Geneva communique of June 30, 2012 and with efficient international backing, as provided by the Syria support group statement adopted in Vienna on October 30," the ministry said.

Participants in the multilateral talks on the Syrian settlement that were held in the Austrian capital city of Vienna on October 30 adopted a joint nine-point statement to outline the course of political process and anti-terror efforts in that country.

Thus, under the document participants in the talks invited the United Nations to convene representatives of the Syrian government and opposition for a political process leading credible, inclusive, non-sectarian governance, followed by a new constitution and elections that must be administered under UN supervision and involve all Syrians, including the diaspora.

The statement also envisages that humanitarian access be ensured throughout the Syrian territory and that the country’s state institutions remain intact. The document stresses the necessity to accelerate diplomatic efforts to settle the Syrian conflict. Hmmm.....All 'moderates' no doubt.

Russian warships have launched a total of 26 cruise missiles at Islamic State facilities, destroying all targets.

Russian warships have attacked Islamic State targets in Syria, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Wednesday during a meeting with President Putin.

“Besides using aviation to destroy militants, this morning ships from the Caspian Flotilla were brought in, four destroyers launched 26 Kalibr sea-based cruise missiles at 11 targets,” Shoigu told Putin in a meeting televised by Rossiya-1.

All targets were destroyed, Shoigu said. “The fact that we launched high-precision [cruise] missiles from the Caspian Sea at approximately 1,500 kilometers [932 miles] and hit all of the targets says much about the good training in the military-industrial complex and good skills of the staff,” he added. The world’s largest submarine, the Dmitri Donskoy (TK-208), Nato-coded Typhoon, has set sail for the Mediterranean and is destined for the Syrian coast, DEBKAfile reports exclusively from its military and intelligence sources.

Aboard the sub are 20 Bulava (NATO-code SS-N-30) intercontinental ballistic missiles with an estimated up to 200 nuclear warheads. Each missile, with a reported range of 10,000km, carries 6-10 MIRV nuclear warheads.

The Russian sub set sail from its North Sea base on Sept. 4, escorted by two anti-sub warfare ships. Their arrival at destination in 10 days time will top up the new Russian military deployment in Syria.

President Vladimir Putin’s introduction of a nuclear force opposite Syrian shores builds up what first looked like an operation to fortify Assad’s regime in Damascus into a military expedition capable of an air and sea confrontation with US forces in the Middle East.

The foreign terrorists who have come to Syria for a war of militancy are fleeing to neighboring Turkey after the Syrian army started massive operations to regain control over the city of Idlib in Northwestern parts of the country.

"A large number of non-Syrian terrorists have fled to Turkey through Atmeh border crossing," the Arabic-language Al-Watan newspaper reported.

Meantime, military sources announced that the Syrian air force has increased airstrikes on the positions of Takfiri terrorists to pave the way for the ground operations in Idlib.

On Friday, President Assad accused neighboring Turkey of torpedoing a UN plan for a ceasefire with rebels in the second city of Aleppo.

Assad told the Swedish newspaper Expressen that Ankara had used its influence with rebel factions to persuade them to reject the proposals put forward by UN envoy Staffan de Mistura for a ceasefire in the former commercial hub.

"The Turks told the factions -- the terrorists that they support and they supervise -- to refuse to cooperate with De Mistura," the Syrian president said.

The main western-backed rebel alliance is based in Turkey.

Assad also accused Ankara of supporting jihadists with Al-Qaeda and the ISIL group since a peaceful uprising in 2011 escalated into armed conflict. Hmmm......Anyone believing Turkey will stop these ISIS members need a thorough medical.

Turkey has become embroiled in its own history wars ahead of the 100th anniversary of Gallipoli as its hardline President seeks to recast the conflict as a holy war.

The Turkish government has been paying Gallipoli tour guides to give tourists a more faith-based interpretation of the conflict which celebrates a victory for Allah over the Western infidels.

The move has divided tour guides and historians, who fear it undermines the legacy of Turkey Gallipoli hero Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who later helped to found a secular Turkish republic.

The tensions reflect a broader push by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to make Turkey a more religious Islamist nation, a move that has seen him take a ­softer line than the West against ­Islamic State.

“There has been an emergence of a new view of Turkish history and of the Gallipoli campaign that was much more infused by a fundamentalist view of the world,” says one Australian official who asked not to be named.

“This interpretation saw the ­ultimate victory as being a reflection in faith of the one true god rather than a campaign driven by a gifted strategist and leader of men in Ataturk.”

The names of non-Muslim Turkish soldiers at Gallipoli have also reportedly been removed from the List of Martyrs of the Gallipoli campaign issued by Turkey’s Ministry of National Defence.

Secularism is now in retreat in Turkey as Mr Erdogan infuses fundamentalist Islamic mores across Turkish society.

This has led him to clash with the West, which has accused his government of being reluctant to fully support the fight against ­Islamic State. Latest U.N. efforts to resolve the Syria crisis could succeed this time and lead to a united front against Islamic State followed by a political transition, Russia's ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva said.

Earlier this week, the United Nations said its Syria envoy would launch fresh consultations with Syrian factions and interested countries on a new round of peace talks, a year after the last such initiative collapsed.

However, Russian envoy Alexey Borodavkin said there was reason to hope for better results now, arguing that both mainstream Syrian opposition and government negotiators increasingly recognized that there was no military solution to the four-year-old civil war, that has killed more than 220,000.

Borodavkin said the fact that some opposition negotiators were no longer supported by a meaningful military, also helped.

"The Free Syrian Army was partly defeated, partly joined the extremist forces of Daesh," he said, using an Arabic term for Islamic State. "This in itself is not a positive development, but this is reality, and the opposition should recognize that."

While the FSA is a much diminished force, insurgent groups have recently made significant gains against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, including mainstream rebels, who seized the Nasib border crossing with Jordan this month.

Russia has forcefully backed Assad in the war, rejecting calls from the opposition and West for him to stand aside.

While the main, Western-backed political opposition alliance sticks to this position, Borodavkin said some opponents were no longer insisting he must step down.

Borodavkin said the emergence of Islamic State as an enemy for both the government and political opposition had created common ground.

"They will share the same fate, and that naturally encourages their rapprochement," he said. "Opposition, government and the outside forces should join efforts in fighting this threat." Hmmmmm......Definitely not a good week for Sultan Erdogan :)

A video published on Al-Mayadeen’s website on Tuesday revealed that up to 100 civilians and militants cross the Syrian-Turkish border daily under the surveillance of the Turkish army, which never interferes.

The footage made public by the news channel shows an unsupervised stretch of the border, specifically that separating the Syrian governorate of Aleppo and the Turkish provinces of Gaziantep and Kilis.

One Syrian who appears in the video said that there were a number of individuals who coordinate with the Turkish army and were responsible for organizing the movement of civilians, militants and smuggled goods across the border.

The footage echoes a similar report in October, where a foreign Islamist fighter who joined the Syrian rebel ranks in 2012 told Reuters that the Turkish borders “were wide open” and armed rebels “used to get in and out of Turkey very easily. No questions were asked. Arms shipments were smuggled easily into Syria.”

The border has become a safe haven for militants to move freely and smuggle weapons and aid inside Syria into the regions they occupy. According to the Al-Mayadeen report, some Turkish officers are also involved in smuggling arms into Syria.

Residents of the Turkish towns on the border reported living in chaos. They recalled an incident when Turkish reporters were attacked with knives by a group of militants and were later threatened by the Turkish government if they didn’t keep quiet regarding the attack.

In October, Press TV’s correspondent in Turkey, Serena Shim, was killed in a “suspicious car accident” near the Turkey-Syria border, days after she told Press TV she had obtained images of militants infiltrating into Syria through the Turkish border in trucks belonging to the World Food Organization and other NGOs. According to sources from Turkey's Foreign Ministry talks with the U.S. use of military bases in Turkey are on-going and if the goals correlate there will be a planning effort.

It also announced that Turkey has trained 230 Peshmerga forces and will train up to 2000 Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters per year.

The FSA will nominate members to be trained while the U.S. and Turkey will have the final say of who will ultimately be trained. ]

The train-equip agreement would see that Turkey will train the selected FSA fighters while the U.S. will equip....Hmmm.....The US Will equip WHO, WHAT, WHERE?... Turkish ISIS II?

No deal has yet been reached over moderate Syrian rebels being trained and equipped in Turkey, Defense Minister İsmet Yılmaz has said, saying the talks over the issue are still continuing.

A Turkish Foreign Ministry official had the told Hürriyet Daily News on Nov. 24 that Turkish and U.S. forces have agreed to train 2,000 Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters at a base in the central Turkish city of Kırşehir as part of the campaign against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) insurgents.

When asked about the reports on Nov. 25, Yılmaz avoided confirming the claims.
“The talks are continuing,” the minister said in response to reporters’ questions before attending his party’s group meeting at Parliament.

“Whenever these negotiations are finalized, both parties will sign an agreement … As far as I know, no agreement has been signed yet. Therefore, the negotiations are continuing,” he added.

A Foreign Ministry official speaking to the Daily News had said Turkey and the U.S. have been trying to narrow “tactical differences” in the discussions for the training and equipping program for the FSA.

It has been reported that the Peshmerga force that will be crossing into Kobane will be delayed a further few days. It was previously announced that the force, formed of between 150-200 fighters, would be crossing into Kobane today (Sunday).

While no Peshmerga force has until now reached Kobane, it was announced today that certain technical details were awaiting to be ironed out between the Kurdistan Regional Government and Turkey.

For the past few weeks now both the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Turkish state have been discussing sending additional fighters into Kobane. While the KRG has proposed sending heavily armed Peshmerga fighters "to help the YPG defend the town of Kobane", Turkey's intentions have been vulnerable to questioning, to say the least.

Turkey's stance towards Kobane — not to mention its bit-part role in the coalition — has raised doubts of its capacity and willingness to fight against ISIS.

Documents and videos have been released of Turkey's cooperation with ISIS. Videos of ISIS fighters crossing in and out of the Turkish-Syrian border were broadcasted on regional and international TV stations.

Turkey's delay tactics in regards to the crossing of the Peshmerga, and its own proposal of sending 1300 FSA fighters from Aleppo to Kobane have been questioned by the YPG. After the Turkish President Erdogan's prophecy that "Kobane will fall within days" over three weeks ago, his personal efforts seem to have concentrated on realising his unfulfilled prediction.

The tactics and games surrounding the transfer of additional fighters into Kobane seem to be extensions of this desire. Hmmm....I would not want those FSA guys around me unarmed, let alone armed, certainly if their 'leader states ISIS are my brothers. This is a Stab in the back to the Kurdish resistence....not Aid.

YPG General Commander: "Turkey's plans failed."

YPG General Commander: "Turkey's plans failed." (KurdishQuestion).

In a live interview with Med Nuce that was tonight, YPG General Commander Sipan Hemo gave information about the latest developments in the battle of Kobane. Hemo, who said that ISIS was continuing its attack on Kobane by bringing in reinforcements, also touched on Turkey's plans regarding the besieged town.

Below is what Sipan Hemo told Med Nuce TV:

"For the past 41 days, our fighters have been fighting heroically. The kurdish people can be proud of the resistance in Kobane. The battle now is very intense, the ISIS gangs are using everything within their means to attack Kobane. However, they are constantly being defeated and the YPG and YPJ fighters are making significant advances. The success of the resistance in Kobane is the success of the Kurdish people as a whole.

The pending arrival of the Peshmerga is a positive step

"We believe that the Peshmerga of Kurdistan should be able to defend Kurdistan everywhere. Our forces and the Peshmerga are fighting side-by-side against the ISIS gangs in Sinjar. We see their pending arrival as a good thing, and we salute them. Their arrival will be a big morale boost. Together we will rage a strong war against ISIS."

"The Turkish state has since the beginning adopted an anti-Rojava stance. Turkey has been supporting these gangs in their attacks against the Kurds. We have said this on many occasions. Now the world has openly seen this. Turkey let them through their borders, they trained them. But their plans failed miserably.

Turkey never expected Kobane to resist for this long. According to them, Kobane was going to fall, and then they were going to rebuild it. Since their expectations have not materialised, their new efforts are concentrated on evaluating the current situation. This is why they are trying to send in their groups into Kobane. If Turkey is sincere about supporting Kobane, they should support the people resisting in it." Read the full story here.
